Can you stream video to a PB?

I just got a PB - is there a way to stream video to a PB the way that you can with an iPad using Air Video? Either on your LAN or over the net?

Yes you can stream media you have in your home network to the playbook.
The playbook will play an AVI or MP4 on your PC, if you setup sharing this folder using http.
But then, only those videos will play which the playbook supports - and this is a very limited amount.
Better install a media server. No coding required, just a little editing of an xml file + some free software.
its not perfect, but, works acceptable for me.
download tversity. This is an implementation of an upnp mediaplayer for Windows.
The playbook is able to playback streaming media of different kinds, but it has serveral limitations, like not AC3 supported in an AVI or no mkv playback.
With tversity, you can setup a profile so that everything gets transcoded to Windows Media9. You need a Windows PC however (dont know, if there is a media-player software for mac or linux which is able to transcode to Windows Media9). Also, the PC you use should be not something old. Use a modern I5 or I7, otherwise, it wont be able to transcode all your movies in realtime.
After installation of tversity, setup the path to your library. During that, open the advanced settings of the libary, and set transcode to always.
In the transcoder settings, set Video resolution to 640x384
in when to transcode, specify "always"
choose Windows Media 9 for the encoder settings
save all,
terminate the service
open the folder where the program is located
you find a "profiles.xml"
open that with notepad or wordpad
search for xbox
below that, you find a line that reads:
<HTTPHeader outServerUA="Microsoft-Windows-NT/5.1 UPnP/1.0 UPnP-Device-Host/1.0 Microsoft-HTTPAPI/1.0
" inUASubstr="Xbox|Xenon"/>
replace that with:
<HTTPHeader inUASubstr="PlayBook"/>
A little down in the xml file, still in the xbox profile, you find:
<maxVideoInfo width="1920" height="1080" bitrate="20000000" fps="60"></maxVideoInfo>
replace this with:
<maxVideoInfo width="640" height="384" bitrate="2000000" fps="20"></maxVideoInfo>
maybe choose a higher fps, that wont hurt.
Save the file,
start the media server services
go to you playbook,
in the browser open http://ip.of.your.pc: 41952
now, you can enyjoy most of your movie collection.
What will not work perfect for me:
The html menu for browsing the library looks old-fashioned
Some movies will stream, but will be interrupted every few seconds for a half second. Dont know, if this is the playbooks fault or a problem with the tversity. Since the stream plays fine when simulating the playbook with a pc, I guess this might fix itself during the next PB updates.
What is nice:
in addition, tversity will also transcode for your blackberry, if your PB battery is down, you can continue to watch on the tiny 2.5inch blackberry screen.
btw: contrary to the documentation the PB does not support RTSP streams.

  • Can you stream video from itunes using 1st generation appleTV

can I stream video using itunes on my PC and an appleTV(1st generation)?

    AppleTV 1 works differently.
It has a sync/share mode and sharing (streaming only) modes set up by pairing the unit with iTunes on computers using the Settings>Computers menu.
The first sync and share connection is for one itunes library and allows you to sync compatible media to the unit's hard drive as well as stream the rest seamlessly if itunes is runniung and the drive has filled up - this media is accessed under My Music, My Movies etc.
Sharing libraries stream only and are accessed via My Shared Movies, Music etc.
Yes, Handbrake is a video converter that has AppleTV presets - use AppleTV1 preset or a simple universal Apple preset.
    See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA38571
ATV1 does not understand Home Sharing or video Airplay.

  • Can you stream video and use the computer at the same time on a mac mini with hdmi

Shouldn't be a problem, unless you want to view it in Full Screen Mode at the same time with only one display.

  • How can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

how can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

Wirelessly: you need an AirPlay - enabled device such as an AppleTV.
Wired: if your TV has an HDMI port, you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter such as this one:
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
If your TV does not have an HDMI port you will need a converter that will convert HDMI input to whatever input your TV requires.

How can I stream video from my laptop to apple tv while doing a different task on my laptop? I want to be able to stream a video to my tv while browsing the internet or working on writing on my laptop. Thanks

You would have to use airplay within iTunes then, unless you want to use 3rd party software (ie Beamer)

  • How can I stream video from a P/DVR to my Mac

Hi, How can I stream video from a Motorola dcx3400m P/DVR to my Mac? I have tried a Slingbox but the audio is out of sync witht the TV and it drives those watching on iPads or on the iMac in another room NUTS.
Is it possible to use a TV tuner of some sort. I've looked at the eye TV thing but I live in Canada/USA region and the eye TV products all seem to be for Austrailia or the UK. The one product that might work is a DVR and I don't need to pay for that as I already have one.
    HELP!
    Jeff

If your Mac has an audio input jack you can connect the output of a cassette machine to it (3.5mm stereo jack required). However many don't, so you will need a USB audio interface - Roland make a range. Alternatively you can buy cassette decks with a built in audio interface.
You will need a program to record and edit the input: Audacity is free and is often bundled with USB-enabled players.

how can i stream video from mac os x 10 using roku to my tv?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X can't write in NTFS disks. If you want to write in NTFS drives, you have to use a third-party app like Paragon for NTFS, being this application the best one to write in those disks.
Another option is to format the external disk in FAT32 or exFAT on a PC, so you will be able to read and write in Macs and PCs without having to use third-party apps. Do it on a PC and copy the files of your external drive to the internal disk first

  • How can I stream videos that come into my imac directly to my AppleTV and then my TV

how can I stream videos that come into my imac directly to my AppleTV and then my TV?

Or... you can just use a 3rd party solution.
Best solution for streaming audio and video to your Apple TV from an Mac or Windows PC... without using iTunes... is Airparrot. You can screen share your Mac to your Apple TV. It even lets you select your overscan/underscan and video quality.
Download it and install. It shows up in your system tray. As long as you are on the same network as your Apple TV, just right click the Airparrot icon and select Apple TV as your Airplay device.
    http://airparrot.com
Then hook up your wireless keyboard and mouse and plop on the couch for some supersized web browsing.
It's 20 minute sessions for the free version, $9.99 for full and can gift to someone for $4.99 if you buy for yourself.

  • Can i stream video from an hd camera to an ipad?

can i stream video from an hd camera to an ipad?

It would depend on the camera, and the software, there are items like airparrot, drone camera, or video surveilance cameras that have ipad apps for viewing. A great deal more research is in store I'm afraid.
Google the following for an example
can you connect a go pro to an ipad and capture the video

  • Why can't I can't stream videos or attach documents/pictures to emails

About 2 months ago, I started having problems w/ Firefox. It started that I couldn't attach a document on my email. Then I noticed that I could no longer stream videos on websites such as Hulu. I still can't stream videos and when I try to attach a document to email, I get a red warning saying the document did not attach. I had to go back to Internet Explorer to perform these actions.

I don't know. They play just fine on mine. Haw are you trying to view them?

Can I stream video from my Iphone 4 to a regular flat screen tv?

The mini-Displayport is for output only — you can't feed a signal into it. I suppose there's a chance that this ability may become available through the Thunderbolt port in the 2011 and later models, but we'll have to wait and see.

  • Speed tests say 6-7Mbps, but can't stream video

I have a brand new BT Home Hub 3, connected to the main socket, through an i-plate and I am on the Option 3 upto 20Mb broadband package.
When I run a speed test I typically get 6-7Mbps which whilst rubbish compared to the 'upto 20Mbps' I am paying for should be sufficient. However sometimes if I try to watch BBC i-player on maximum resolution through my PS3 it stops and loads every few seconds. I know streaming high resolution video is fairly demanding, but not that demanding, I am not doing anything else at the same time so I think 6-7Mbps should be plenty. This only happens sometimes, but if I am trying to watch a film around 08:00pm on a 'school night' it happens more often than not.
If I drop the resolution it normally settles down, so I guess I am right on the edge of what it can handle, and I have a sort of 'work around'. But I am paying for the top level of broadband BT offer (they haven't put fibre optic in my exchange yet) and have the top level of kit BT supply, and I am not asking for the moon on a stick, just BBC i-player on top resolution.
I am normally connecting the PS3 wirelessly but I always have 100% wireless signal when I check on the PS3, the Hub and PS3 are less than 3m apart, in the same room, with nothing between them and no kit that could be causing interference (except for the Plasma TV near the PS3, but it wouldn't be much use if it wasn't connected to a TV!) and a couple of times I have had the same problem when I have connected them through an ethernet cable to check. I have seen a few bits of guidance saying try a differnt channel, but I think the Hub 3 does this for you automatically.
I think sometimes when you stream video it takes a few seconds for BT to realise that you need more bandwidth and open your pipe up a bit - I am used to the video pausing and buffering a few times in the first minute then settling down - but this can go on for a whole hour.
Please could someone step me through the diagnostics I should do as a first step. I don't know much about routers but I am prepared to go in a play with settings if someone who knows what they are doing will hold my virtual hand.

  • Can you import video directly from a video camera ?

Can you import video directly from a video camera to the iPad 2 ? If so, what is needed?

I would say no. I have an Ipad2 with the connection kit. A recent Sony camera which works fine in imovie for my 27" imac, but nothing with the Ipad. Only thing that it finds are pictures that can be made with the same video camera. Apple wrote a note aboit probkmes with importing, but i'm very disappointed with what i have right now.

  • Windows 7 and Apple TV- can't stream video

    Hi:
I can't stream video from itunes on a Windows 7 pc, to Apple TV (3rd generation). The ATV is only a week old but has been replaced with no luck. When I try to stream video, an error message pops up: "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device Apple TV. The network connection timed out".
    - the ATV is not the issue as it was replaced
    - I can stream audio and photos from itunes, but can't stream video (which is in the proper format for ATV)
    - I installed itunes on an old xp machine and video streaming works!
    - both the xp machine and the Win 7 machine are on the same network, so the router must be ok
    - all firmware and software is up to date and everything has been rebooted (several times)
    - the error happens no matter if it is a wireless or wired connection
Since XP can successfully stream video and is on the same home network as Win 7 and we know that both the ATV and the router are working properly, it seems to me that there must be an issue in my Win 7 config. Does anyone have suggestions??? Thanks!

    This is what is happening:
With an iTunes playlists of about 13,000 songs, one song will start playing (with a huge lag before the cover art appears); when the first song is finished, a second will start with the cover art for the first song still on screen. Eventually the screen goes to black, the time bar for the seconf song will pop up and after a few beats the art for both and first AND second song appear on screen together. A moment later, the audio cuts out, the screen goes to black againand eventially the AppleTV homescreen pops up. I've tried the fixes I've read about on this board; restarting everything (AppleTV, MacBook, etc), closing and reopening Home Sharing on the all the devices, doing a restore on the Apple TV, etc. Everything worked fine until I installed the update.
