Cannot access my mac shared folders

I know they switched to SMB2 file sharing, but now I cant access the "shared" folders on my mac from any other device. I dont have any other macs in the house. Everything else is Windows or Linux. Before the update to Mavericks I did not have any problem accessing files, but now it simply will not work. Has anyone found a fix to this? Is there a way to switch back to sharing with SMB1?

have you tried menu go/connect to server and then write smb://nome or IP of you computer ?
In application/utilities there is the network utility you can use it to ping the computer you want to access. does it work?
Best Regards.

  • After installing windows 7 on my macbook pro, i cannot access my mac

After installing windows 7 on my macbook pro late 2011, when I try to access the mac side of the computer it just stays in "thinking" mode and will not open up the mac. Windows side opens and works ok.
I only know enough to try to uninstall windows 7 then hopefully open the mac and possibly reinstall the windows 7.
PROBLEM: I only know how to uninstall windows 7 from the mac side (in the bootcamp) BUT cannot access it??
    Any help. Thank you

    Hi craig1045,
It is possible that the file system for the volume containing the Mac operating system, or the OS itself has become damaged. I suggest that you follow the steps in this article to try to repair them -
A flashing question mark or globe appears when you start your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440
    Specifically -
If your installation of OS X needs repair
If you don't see your startup disk displayed in Startup Manager, or if you see a prohibitory symbol (⊘) appear, your startup drive may need directory repair, or OS X may need to be reinstalled.
If you only see a disk named "Recovery HD" in Startup Manager, select it instead. You can also start from OS X Recovery by holding down Command and R on the keyboard at startup.
From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility window that appears, select your startup disk (usually named "Macintosh HD") from the left side of the Disk Utility window.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click Repair Disk to verify and repair any issues with your OS X startup disk.
After repairing the disk, try to start up normally.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, start from OS X Recovery and reinstall OS X.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I can not access any more shared folders on windows 7 other pc on my homegroup

    Hello every one.
I had my home group network working fine over  wi-fi connection, (laptop with win 8.1 and laptop with win7) till few days ago I had to format and re install the win 8.1 using recovery disk from toshiba. Since then, although I have setup again the home
group as it was before, I can access the shared folders on win8.1  from win 7 but not the other way around. So when I try to access the shared folders on win 7, on my win 8.1 I receive the message:  WINDOWS CAN NOT ACCESS \\WIN 7\\SHARED FOLDER.
Notice that when I open the network folder on win 8.1, my win 7 pc is visible, I click on it, I can see all my shared folders and the above message appears when I click on them.
Apparently some settings have changed on laptop win 8.1
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Maintain access to network(shared folders) resources if the site loses access to a Domain Controller?

    Scenario
Windows 7 users log on to workstations at a site. Domain Controller is up and does the domain authentication for those users across the WAN. Users are then accessing a local(same building) Shared directory on a Windows 2008r2 server, in order to open, modify,
    save new files, etc.
Then, the site loses access to the Domain Controller due to a WAN outage.
    Question
Will those users that have already logged onto their Windows 7 workstations continue to have access to the shared resources on the local Windows 2008r2 server with their cached credentials(assuming they don't logoff or restart their machines)?? This has
been the case in the past, but wondering if anything has changed with Windows 2008??
    Thanks

    Hi,
The duration that you can access the server depends on when the server requires re-authentication.
In Windows implementation, SMB session expiration is enforced based upon the client’s support of dynamic re-authentication capability [MS-SMB].
If the client enables the CAP_DYNAMIC_REAUTH capability bit, the server will enforce session expiration. If a client does not set CAP_DYNAMIC_REAUTH, the Windows server does not return STATUS_NETWORK_SESSION_EXPIRED.
The SMB dynamic re-authentication feature was introduced in Windows XP. From there, Windows-based clients set the CAP_DYNAMIC_REAUTH capability bit to indicate to the server that the client supports re-authentication when the Kerberos service ticket for
    the session expires.
    Windows servers do check CAP_DYNAMIC_REAUTH:
If clientCapabilities sets CAP_DYNAMIC_REAUTH, the server will set Server. Session.AuthenticationExpirationTime to the expiry time returned by AcceptSecuirtyContext.
If clientCapabilities does not set CAP_DYNAMIC_REAUTH, the server will not set Server. Session.AuthenticationExpirationTime, basically a CAP_DYNAMIC_REAUTH capability bit not set by the client means the session will not expire on the server side.
To configure Maximum lifetime for service ticket, you can use grouppolicy. The default value of
    Maximum lifetime for service ticket
in Default Domain Policy is 600 minutes.
Note:This setting is applied to DC, not clients.

  • Accessing windows server shared folders via IOS devices.

FileExplorer did it! Thanks a bunch.

Looking for suggestions on what route I should go in order to establish connections from IOS devices w/ VPN to windows server 2008 shared folders. Mostly just for employees to upload  files to, downloading isn't a big deal. I'm sure there's apps out there that'll achieve this goal so if I'm correct I'm looking for recommendations! Or if there's a better way entirely.
    Thanks friends.

  • Mac Pro can access other Macs but those same Macs cannot access the Mac Pro

    Hello.
I have a highly annoying problem that goes as follows:
    My (home) network consists of:
    - 1 Mac Pro (e2008 - 10.5.6)
    - 1 iMac (2008 - 10.5.6)
    - 1 MacMini (2004 - 10.4.??)
    - 1 MacBook Air (2008 - 10.5.6)
The internet connection is alive and well with no drops not that it truely matters here.
    The setup is as follows:
    - Linksys AM300 in half bridge mode connects to the
    - Apple Airport Extreme Base station from which 1 cat6 cable runs to the
    - Mac Pro
The other Macs connected to the Airport Extreme wirelessly.
The Mac Pro has its network settings setup correctly (in fact it used to work fine but then just stopped working) and I have also disabled all network settings, rebooted and reapplied the settings to no effect.
    To clarify:
I (Mac Pro) can connect to all Macs in the network but all those macs can see me but not connect to me. Connecting via the Finder simply says "Connection Failed" and if I open the "Connect to server.." and enter the IP address of the Mac Pro it results in an error/failed connection also.
Any ideas to fix this would be highly appreciated.
PS: As of now, 19/03/2009, I have all software updates installed on all macs in the network.

Place the files you want to transfer on the Desktop
Click on the Finder or desktop to swtich to Finder, then Go > Computer, then double click on the boot drive, then on the Users folder.
Open the target User folder and inside is a Public folder > Drop Box, just drag and drop in there and the permissions change so that user can use the file.

You can use the terminal find command enter below to display all files greater then 25meg.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
    sudo find -x / -size +51200 -exec ls -lh {} \;
I assume that you have logged on as an administrator. Enter your logon password.
The -x / combination says to search all files on the startup partition. The +51200 says to select all files greater than 51200 blocks of 512 length which is 25meg. The -exec indicates which comman to run on a selected file. The {} is the filename of the selected file.

  • Can't access dot mac sync options in system preferences

    Hi,
I noticed that my iMac (G5 - 10.5) was slowing down horribly. In the Activity Monitor it turned out that the dotmacsyncclient was using up 80-90% CPU. Syncing did work. When I wanted to check to .Mac setting I couldn't get into the Sync page. System Pref just crashed.
So I decided to delete all the sync settings from the Library (SyncServ). After a reboot the system seems to works just fine. The syncclient doesn't use up the cPU anymore so that's good.
But I still cannot access the .Mac sync options. System Prefs keep crashing. So not I cannot reset my sycing preferences!
Anyone has any idea how to solve this?
    Thanks!
    Marco

Well, it's nice to know that I'm not alone in this issue too. This started cropping up after the last major update to Leopard. I cannot reset .Mac sync services either in System Preferences or through the icon in the uppper right hand bar of the screen. Each time gets me a spinning beach ball which hangs the system and causes me to do a Force Quit.
Force Quit always shows it to be a non-responsive program. All other aspects are fine. I've even gone into iSync and reset the preferences there with no apparent change. I have no ideas on this one and have been searching for an answer myself - hopefully someone (or Apple) will have one...crash logs are not giving me anything to point to either...

  • HT1338 Can't access my mac os side after installing win7

I just installed windows 7 on my new mac using boot camp. I followed all the steps but after installing win7 there is no way I can access my mac os partition. I tried to reboot with the Alt/option key pressed but I am presented with a window asking me to provide a password. When I enter my password, it won't let me in. It just delete the password. I have re-tried several times but it won't work. My question are:
    1. Is there any way I can install windows support software (for the driver) from bootcamp since I cannot access my mac side.
    2. I tried to download and install bootcamp but it doesn't work since it says I do not need to install any bootcamp update.
    3. Is there any ways I can go past the mac password screen? I really don't understand why it doesn't accept my password. I am the only administrator and user of my computer

  • I CAN'T ACCESS MY MAC! STUCK ON WINDOWS 7

I installed windows 7 on my macbook pro 13inch retina 2013 edition, and up until yesterday everything was running smmoothly and it would only boot up into windows if I held down the otion key and selected the drive myself. Today though (11/6/14) i went to normally boot up into y mac and it booted up straight to windows, and ive tried everything now, not even holding down the option button is working and I cannot access my Mac partition no matter what i do, ive been trying for countless hours to do something but nothing. I've also tried to use bootcamp within windows but no matter where i look, in the control panel or the task bar, i can't find it and to me it looks as though I have lost my mac somebody please help me. I've only had this computer for 4 months and if its already not working i don't think id go back to macs,

I image you are as far away from an Apple Store as a user in Dubbo.
I know this won't solve your current issue, but when you get up and running, make sure you have both a Time Machine and a clone backup. This way your data is safe. Just like a seat belt and an air bag protect you in different ways when driving, you need both Time Machine and a clone for full protection.
Get a 2T or 3T drive for the backup.
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone.
