Cannot add ODBC connection to Oracle 8i

Hi all,
I've installed the Oracle Client for Windows on a Win98 SE machine using the Application User option. However, there is an error when I try to add an ODBC connection as follows:
Error Cannot Load Resource File sqresus.dll
Clicked OK, then
The setup routines for the Oracle ODBC Driver ODBC drivers could not be loaded due to system error code 1114.
Clicked OK, then
Could not load the setup or translator library.
I had a previous failed client install; removed the oracle folder and reinstalled without problems. TIA

  • How to create ODBC connection between Oracle 10g and MS SQL Server

    Hi,
Can someone help us with the steps to create an ODBC connection between Oracle APPS using Oracle 10g database and MS SQL Server.
Requirement is to extract the transactional data from MS SQL Server on a daily basis and dump it into Oracle tables for an interface to be run. Currently it is being done through Dataloader tool which we feel is causing the data issue with Arabic characters. We want to create the ODBC directly between Oracle and MS SQL Server and check if the data is being pulled correctly.
The data is in sql server 2000 which has data in Arabic_CI_AS character set which is moved to Oracle 10.2.0.3 database with characterset AL32UTF8. The table data is moved to oracle using the dataloader 3.6 standard edition licensed version. We cannot change the character set of Sql Server 2000.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Shanil

    Hi,
If you're trying to PULL data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you wouldnt use Oracle ODBC driver for that, so you may want to post in the Heterogeneous Services forum instead:
    Heterogeneous Connectivity
If you're trying to PUSH data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you could use ODBC but most folks use OLEDB for that, and the following note on MOS should help:
How to Create a Sql Server Linked Server With The Oracle Provider for OLE DB     (Doc ID 191368.1)
As with any NLS related issue, the first thing to do is dump the codepoints of the data in the Oracle database to see if it is stored validly, rather than relying on what the data "looks like" from some tool or other. It's best to check a single row, with only a few characters in it if you can, and you can do that via
    SELECT DUMP(<columname>,1016) FROM <tablename> WHERE ...
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • ODBC connectivity between Oracle 11G and MSSQL Server on Solaris 10

When we were running in 10G, I was able to successfully configure hsodbc using unixODBC and freeTDS to allow for an ODBC connection between Oracle and MSSQL Server.
A few weeks ago we upgraded to 11G and I've been struggling to get the connectivity (dg4odbc) working.
In our 10g environment unixODBC and freeTDS were compiled as 32-bit. I have recompiled them as 64-bit and switched over to an 11G listener and I am getting the following error:

    u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/hs/lib")
and bounced the listener, but I'm still getting the same error.
I do not have a lib64 directory in my Freetds installation, but all the files in the lib directory are 64-bit.

  • Can't Create the ODBC connection for Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I am working with Oracle 10g Database Release 2 in windows XP professional. I am trying to create an ODBC connection for oracle but become failure because its generating the following errors:
    system error code 998
could not locate the setup or translator library
Please help me how can I solve this problem and create the ODBC connection for oracle 10g database.
    Best Regards,

    mwz wrote:

could not locate the setup or translator libraryThe symptom described is typical of an incorrect system env PATH setting (used by the data source admin tool), compared to that of the Oracle Home (specifically, path $OH/bin). The odbc driver config routine will search directories listed in PATH variable for necessary libraries (Client dll's). If some library fails to load (from e.g. oraoci*.dll or oraclient10.dll) it will probably error out, as in your case.
Are you creating the odbc dsn on the databse server host or on some other machine? I.e. are you using the db host as a client or not?

  • ODBC connection to oracle 10g express

Hi , please i need help in connecting a MS Access file under odbc (System Dsn) to oracle 10g express and how to be accessed in oracle forms 6i , but please if any one can help me by a step by step and more details about that problem i will be so grateful .

and click on OK button. This way I added new connection. After that I was trying to rename the DSN connection name to SOURCE(Oracle_10g). there is no rename button. So i thought I remove this connection and add again. But when I try to add it. It will not add it. I follow the same procedure as i mentioned above. But finally when I click on OK button. it is not showing any new connection name under User Data Sources list. It is not giving any error messages. The ODBC Manager software is used to define and maintain ODBC connection aliases (aka DSN ). It enumerates the list of available drivers, interact with the driver when you want to use it to create an alias, and then stores the alias when defined.
If this does not work, and the alias is not stored, it is not an Oracle XE problem, but something weird with the ODBC Manager.. or how you go about defining the alias/DSN.
You can create user or system DSN's. You need certain privs (in your Windows account) to enable ODBC Admin to write the required changes to disk for that DSN. Etc.
I suggest focusing on these aspects as I strongly doubt that Oracle itself is part of the problem in this case.

  • How to find the number of ODBC connections to Oracle Database

    Hi All,
How to find the number of ODBC connections and all connections to the Database in last week. Are there any views to get this information?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mahi

What Ed said is true that Oracle doesn't note which type of protocol is connecting to the database, however, you can see which program is accessing the database.
For example: if you already know of a user using ODBC, you can verify as:
select username, osuser, terminal, program from v$session where username = 'SCOTT'
    USERNAME                 OSUSER          TERMINAL   PROGRAM
    SCOTT                    IUSR_SRV231     SRV231     w3wp.exe
    SCOTT                    IUSR_SRV231     SRV231     w3wp.exe
2 rows selected.Assuming that you can confirm the progam noted in the above (example) is the one using ODBC, then you can change the query such as:
    SQL> select username, osuser, terminal, program from v$session where program = 'w3wp.exe';
    USERNAME                 OSUSER          TERMINAL   PROGRAM
    SCOTT                    IUSR_SRV231     SRV231     w3wp.exe
    SCOTT                    IUSR_SRV231     SRV231     w3wp.exe
2 rows selected.Just for kicks, I checked our listener.log file, but there was no reference of odbc in it either.
    Hope this helps...

  • ODBC connection to Oracle 7 will not reset

We are using Oracle JDBC drivers for all but one of our
datasources which is an old Oracle 7 database. The ODBC connection
to this database will not reset when the database is bounced or the
database server is rebooted. We have to restart the ODBC service to
reset the connection. Is there another way to do this automatically
or perhaps another driver out there we can use? We are running
    ColdFusion MX 6.1 Enterprise.

Wow, I can't believe that you are still using Oracle 7. In
fact, unless you are on 7.3.4 you aren’t even Y2K compliant.
Of course, I'm not even sure if there is an upgrade path from 7.x
to 10g, but I would consider migrating off of 7 to anything else.
Otherwise, you are going to have more and more compatibility
problems. In fact, you can no longer even get ODBC drivers from
Oracle for versions older than 9i.
    Good luck.

  • ODBC: connect from oracle to filmaker pro 7 to extract data

sorry for the cross post, i posted this in th ODBC forum, but that's in the windows.net subhead, so idunno.
    here is is again:
we have a filemaker pro server and some of the data needs to be imported weekly into an oracle database.
my understanding is this can be done and it is roughed out in the "FileMaker 7 ODBC and JDBC Developer's Guide"...available here if anyone is interested:http://filemaker.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/filemaker.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5337
however, i know nothing about oracle, but i don't need to since there are people on staff to deal with that. i am presenting this connection option as the best way for the oracle guys here to get the data they need. the other option is for them (non-filemaker savvy people) doing exports and importing them into oracle. they don't want to do this because they don't like filemaker. i believe this whole process would be easier if i keep the oracle guys in what they know and love, oracle. once the extract was properly set up it could be done as cron job. all done.
so my question is, how would one accomplish this?
broad strokes that i could give to the oracle people to direct them.
i figure they could build a small custom app to do this, but i have no idea what is involved with that. or, perhaps the oracle application has the ability to run scripts?
    any pointers would be helpful.
    thanks!

You can use Filemaker's built-in ODBC capability to push data from the FMP database into Oracle. Then you as a FMP developer can take responsibility for getting the data into Oracle and the Oracle guys don't have to deal with FMP at all.
You will need an ODBC driver for Oracle, and an ODBC DSN configured for connecting to the Oracle database. Then you will need to write a simple FMP script that traverses the FMP records you want to push and generate a SQL string that you pass to the Execute SQL script step. Here is an example:
    Go to Record/Request/Page [First]
    Loop
    Execute SQL [No dialog; DSN: myDSN;
    Calculated SQL Text: "UPDATE products_description
    SET products_viewed=" & myFMPDatabase::Products_Viewed
    & " WHERE products_id=" & myFMPDatabase::Products_ID]
Go to Record/Request/Page [Next; Exit after last]
    End Loop
This assumes that you have an account with write access to the Oracle database, you understands its schema, and have enough knowledge of SQL to write simple INSERT / UPDATE statements.

  • CR 2008 and ODBC connection using Oracle Instant Client driver?

    Two questions.
I'm creating CR 2008 report using an ODBC connection. The ODBC driver is the Oracle Instant Client (version 10.2, I think.)
When I define the connection, I see only a few tables. I do not see the Tables, Views, Qualifiers tree that I see with a normal Oracle Server connection.
Does anybody know why this happens? Is there a CR ODBC driver that works better?
Second question:  I have a .NET application that is pointing the report to another Oracle DB. In my db, table names are not unique -- each user has the same set of tables. I find that when the .net applciation sets the datasource, I get connected to the first table with a given name; I do not get the table scoped by the logon user.
In the .net application, how do I scope the table name to a particular user.
    Any info helps. Thanks.
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
Below are the replies to your questions:
Answer 1: Please try the below steps:
    - Make sure that in File->Options->Database Tab in the Data Explorer section the corresponding checkboxes are checked for tables, views, system tables, synonyms and stored procedures and the Table name LIKE and Owner LIKE boxes are blank.
    - Please try with OLEDB connection and check the results.
    - You can also refer to this SAP note no# 1215994, the link to which is given below:
    [https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/sno/ui_entry/entry.htm?param=69765F6D6F64653D3030312669765F7361706E6F7465735F6E756D6265723D3132313539393426]
Answer 2: If you are using RAS SDK only then you would be able to change table name. Please let us know if you are using RAS.
If you are using RAS with Java please post your query in the Java forum else if you are using Visual Studio/.NET then please post your question in .NET Forum.
    Please update with the results.
    Thanks!

  • Portal 7.3 - Cannot add FPN connection

    Greetings, SDN members.
I am trying to implement FPN between 7.3 and 7.0 portals, while 7.3 is a consumer, and 7.0 is a producer, respectively.
I have followed the instructions from help.sap.com and established SSO between the systems.
While logged on to 7.3 environment with Administrator user, I go to System Administration -> Federated Portal -> Manage my FPN connections, and try to add a new connection. When I click "New" I cannot select "FPN Connection", it is disabled. In the bottom there is an option of selecting existing SLD system and add it to FPN connections - this option is also disabled.
Looks like there is no additional permission for such an action.
Did anyone encounter such a problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi again,
I have followed the thread you provided, but still experience the same problem.
It's strange that there is not special test for RRA connection, although it appears in help.sap.com that there should be a special test for that.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
Please can you specify how you create your DSN for Oracle connection in ODBC Data Source Administrator?
What did you specify for the TNS Service Name?
What is the content of your TNSNAMES.ORA file?
    Thx
    Mireille

  • ODBC connections to Oracle 9i Lite

i'm currently using oracle 9i Lite 5.0.2 database and Palm OS 5.1. can any body send me a sample code in JAVAwith which i can connect to Oracle Lite database in my palm from a PALM Application using ODBC.

I am running the OBIEE software on Windows XP Professional on a laptop. An Oracle 10.2.0.1 EE database also resides on this machine.
My TNSNAMES.ora file is located in one of my Oracle Homes but I have a system environment variable set for TNS_ADMIN. I am using the default listener installed with the preconfigured database, and I can connect to the database ok from the PC using SQL*Plus, TOAD etc. I have also tried connecting to the ODBC data source set up for this 10g db from within Excel with no problems.
The System DSN entry called ORCLSH uses the driver 'Oracle in OraDB 10g_home1'. I have tried the ODBC driver with both a username entered and not. The TNS entry alias ORCLSH is used, which matches my TNSNAMES.ora file entry in the location designated by TNS_ADMIN. My db service name is ORCL. The parameters in the data connections are left are their defaults, i.e., enable result sets, enable query timeout, enable thread safety - all checked.
The connection pool has been named ORCLSH too. I'm using Call interface ODBC 3.5, max connections 10, data source name ORCLSH. Shared login - checked, enable connection poolng - checked, use multithreaded connections - checked, execute queries asynchronously - checked, parameters supplied - checked (defaults).
The writeback tab has been left alone (prefix TT, bulk insert buffer size 32, trx boundary 10).
What other parameter details do you need to know, other that what details I have previously provided?
    Cheers,
    John

  • ODBC Connection to Oracle in ASP

    set conn = server.createobject ("adob.connection")
    conn.open "DSN", "user", "password"
I tried using this connection string and for some reason it won't make a connect to Oracle. Is there a different string to use for 8i database driver?

    Justin-
Our DSN both on the Microsoft Driver and the Oracle driver connect to the Oracle database. The connection string is as follows:
    set conn = server.createobject ("adodb.connection")
    conn.open "mag", "Jeff", "32348"
set RSClient = conn.execute ("SELECT * FROM emp")
Also, is there any Oracle documentation on using ASP for ODBC connections to Oracle8i?
    Jeff
