ODBC connectivity between Oracle 11G and MSSQL Server on Solaris 10

When we were running in 10G, I was able to successfully configure hsodbc using unixODBC and freeTDS to allow for an ODBC connection between Oracle and MSSQL Server.
A few weeks ago we upgraded to 11G and I've been struggling to get the connectivity (dg4odbc) working.
In our 10g environment unixODBC and freeTDS were compiled as 32-bit. I have recompiled them as 64-bit and switched over to an 11G listener and I am getting the following error:
ERROR at line 1:

Thank you for your response.
I modified the envs LD_LIBRARY_PATH parameter in my SID_LIST_LISTENERODBC to be:
(ENV="LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/freetds/lib:/usr/local/unixODBC/lib:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/lib:/
u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/hs/lib")
and bounced the listener, but I'm still getting the same error.
I do not have a lib64 directory in my Freetds installation, but all the files in the lib directory are 64-bit.
Here is a listing of my DG4ODBC init file:

  • How to create ODBC connection between Oracle 10g and MS SQL Server

    Hi,
Can someone help us with the steps to create an ODBC connection between Oracle APPS using Oracle 10g database and MS SQL Server.
Requirement is to extract the transactional data from MS SQL Server on a daily basis and dump it into Oracle tables for an interface to be run. Currently it is being done through Dataloader tool which we feel is causing the data issue with Arabic characters. We want to create the ODBC directly between Oracle and MS SQL Server and check if the data is being pulled correctly.
The data is in sql server 2000 which has data in Arabic_CI_AS character set which is moved to Oracle 10.2.0.3 database with characterset AL32UTF8. The table data is moved to oracle using the dataloader 3.6 standard edition licensed version. We cannot change the character set of Sql Server 2000.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Shanil

    Hi,
If you're trying to PULL data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you wouldnt use Oracle ODBC driver for that, so you may want to post in the Heterogeneous Services forum instead:
    Heterogeneous Connectivity
If you're trying to PUSH data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you could use ODBC but most folks use OLEDB for that, and the following note on MOS should help:
How to Create a Sql Server Linked Server With The Oracle Provider for OLE DB     (Doc ID 191368.1)
As with any NLS related issue, the first thing to do is dump the codepoints of the data in the Oracle database to see if it is stored validly, rather than relying on what the data "looks like" from some tool or other. It's best to check a single row, with only a few characters in it if you can, and you can do that via
    SELECT DUMP(<columname>,1016) FROM <tablename> WHERE ...
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

I'm getting the above error for DB links between Oracle 10.2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. But the same, when configured for MS SQL server 2000 works fine without any issues.
Please advise me to rectify the error. We've been working for the last couple of weeks.
    Regards,
    Sunil

    Sunil,
You don't need an Oracle ODBC driver.
The way it works is that in the gateway init<sid>.ora file, in your case initTelemetryDB1.ora, the parameter HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO points to a system DSN. This DSN should then be configured to use an ODBC driver to connect to the non-Oracle database. So, in your setup when you want to access the SQL*Server 2008 database then the DSN should use an ODBC driver that can connect to a SQL*Server 2008 database. If you still use the initTelemetryDB1.ora file for the connection then the TelemetryDB1 DSN should be configured to access the SQL*Server 2008 database.
However, there are a couple of problems with your actual setup -
    - the configuration you have - 10.2 RDBMS on a Sun machine and HSODBC on Windows - is not supported. HSODBC should only be used from a RDBMS that is in the same ORACLE_HOME as HSODBC.
    - 10.2 HSODBC is now desupported and has been replaced by the 11g Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) and the configuration you want is supported. That is because unlike HSODBC the DG4ODBC gateway can be installed standalone with a RDBMS being installed.
I recommend that you download and install 11.20.2 DG4ODBC on your Windows machine in a new Oracle_home and access that from the 10.2 RDBMS on Sun - which is a supported configuration. But to do this, you will need to apply either the 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 patchset to your RDBMS.
There is more information in the following note available on My Oracle Support (MOS) -
Note.1083703.1 Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products
The 11.2.0.2 DG4ODBC can be downloaded from MOS as patch and for the gateways on Windows 32-bit you just need to download -
    p10098816_112020_platform_4of6.zip
However, to check the HSODBC ou need to confirm that the DSN used by HSODBC points to a System DSN configured to access SQL*Server 2008.
    Have a look at -
Note 109730.1 How to setup generic connectivity (HSODBC) for Windows NT
But remember this is not a supported version or configuration and you should be using Dg4ODBC.

    Mike

  • Connectivity between Oracle database and client...

    Hi guys,
I was asked to make a connection between oracle client and database via internet so that our clients can access the database from different parts of the country, and the data that is transmitted in the internet does not require security consideration. And I have successfully implemented this.
But later onwards they asked me to structure it in such a way so that clients must be able to select, insert, update and delete data offline, in case there is online connectivity problem.
So my question is, are there any possibilities in oracle to temporarily store data that are available in the oracle database to the client side and then later onwards transfer those datas once the clients are available online. Or are there any other alternative ways...
Additional Information - Client access the database through an application created by VB.
Please do help me on this project.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Asif. You probably should do a cost/risk analysis. Where you are headed might be able to be done (but it will require that the "clients" also have their own copy of the database) but it won't be easy and it certainly won't be cheap, either in initial implementation or in on-going maintenance. The alternative is to take a hard look at your network connections and see if it wouldn't be cheaper/easier to be able to ensure that it is reliable. Remember "the internet" won't break, it is highly redundant. If you have connectivity issues, they will almost certainly be in your own equipment and configurations, so your (your organization) will have the ability to address and fix any issues there.

  • How to provide joins between oracle tables and sql server tables

how to provide joins between oracle tables and sql server tables ? Any help on this

    user10675696 wrote:
I have a requirement that i need to generate a report form two different data base. i.e Oracle and Sql Server. Bad idea most times. Heterogeneous joins do not exactly scale and performance can be severely degraded by network speed and b/w availability. And there is nothing you can do in the application and database layers to address performance issue at the network level in this case - your code's performance is simply at the mercy of network performance. With a single glaring fact - network performance is continually degrading. All the time. Always. Until it is upgraded. When the performance degradation starts all over again.
If the tables are not small (few 1000 rows each) and row volumes static, I would not consider doing a heterogeneous join. Instead I would rather go for a materialised view on the Oracle side, use a proper table and index structure, and do a local database join.

  • Connection between SMD Agent and SMD server via SAProuter

In our scenario, we have to setup the connection between SMD agent and SMD server(solution manager server) via saprouter. But during the installation of SMD agent, we can only specify the hostname of the managing system, we have no place to add saprouter string(/H/..../H/). I I am not sure if we could connect the agent and server via saprouter, if so how to do it?
Hope someone can give us your precious advices on this issue.
    Karl

Perfect; and thanks for your response. I found this help page for developers to implement P4 support over SAP router: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/48/2992d7ad8758d7e10000000a421937/content.htm
But in the SM Diagnostics Setup options I can set up only a direct HTTP adresses and have no options to set up connections over a sap router to P4 ports directly. I can at the moment only solve my problems with NAT or firewall rules.
And also the diagnostic agent setup has no options to config a proxy or sap router. I found yesterday a blog on sdn side with screenshots of the setup with all available connection opetions to SLD... sry I can not post this link today.
This is an official statment of SAP from the current version of SMD guide; it is also possible but why not from the beginning???:
In some network conficurations, the Diagnostics agent has to connect to the Managing system though a SAP router.
This feature will be fully supported in Solution Manager 7 Ehp2 (7.02).
In order to enable this feature in Ehp1, please contact the Diagnostics Agent support team to get information on how to
setup the agent and on which patch level you can perform the installation.
This thread were a long time not answared; proxy and routing connections are mostly stepmotherly handled by SAP; this is also a problem by set up of automatic RFC generations in SMSY; why there are in the setup assitents no options to set up the router string.
I have absolutly no comprehension for this in year 2011. All this technics are good known and long time tested.
In this case the f**k has provoked an answare to this thread and this is what I expected; but sorry for my style You are right I could also writh why the heck

    Hi,
The are many steps to verify:

  • Configuring oracle 11g and Appl.server

    hello
we are beginners and need some step by step guide
    to step our database envirnonment.
Since we have been working in an obsolete database(8i & dev6)
we are switching to the new version and hence unable to proceed .
    1. Installed oracle 11g on a server with OS windows2003.we are able to
open the admin pages in a browser and created users and control files.
we have also imported one users data using dmp files.
    2. Next we have sample application developed using Developer suite 10g .
In another PC we have installed OS windows xp and also installed only
application server 10g services for forms and reports. We have placed our sample fmx files
    in this pc.
    3. we are able able to open the file fmx from the browser on this pc and locally
(Lan) on other pcs by giving the url completely.
    4. Next we want our remote office to open this file through the internet.
when we tried this we failed in our attempt.Hence please let us know
how to open the file from the internet.
    5. Next we require one active server page to authenticate the user (from the Table
created in the database) and if ok open the sample fmx file .
Here we are struck and do not know how to proceed .
Please guide as how we have to go about with a sample script and
    other details.
    Thanks in advance

I do not intend to be insulting but your question reads something like: "my car doesn't start please tell me why?"
Did you see any error message displayed?
Did you look in the log files for error messages?
    Can you ping the server?
    Is there a firewall?
In other words you need to provide a lot more information before we can help you. Right now it could be anything from the battery is dead to it is out of petrol to some thief took the engine. <g>

  • Connection between Oracle 9i and MS Sql Server 2005

    Hey Guys,
I am hoping to create materialized view of data on a small sql server box using our oralce 9i cluster. Anyway, i have done this with mysql using the standard odbc dirvers and a dblink, but i am having trouble finding an odbc driver for the connection from oracle to sql server. So, i was wondering if you guys know of a free, or cheap odbc driver, or have a suggestion of an alternative connection method.
PS: i have see: Heterogeneous Services Agents and Transparent gateways floating around, so are these options that don't need the odbc drivers and are free?
    Thanks in advance

    http://www.wisdomforce.com/dweb/resources/docs/MSSQL2005_ORACLE10g_compare.pdf
But you have to remember one big thing - I've not seen yet one compare that was completely indifferent to any of the included DB's. So you can be sure that every doc that you get on MS website will say that SQL server is better, every doc on Oracle website will say that Oracle is better. Every doc on other websites will say that better DB either is:
    1) DB that has payed for the reserach paper
    2) DB that was mostly used by the researchers
So of course you should be very cautious about each paper you get.

  • How to set connection between oracle forms and DB?

    I have installed win xp,
    oracle database 10g in c drive ,
oracle forms and reports 10g in d drive ,
how do i set the connection between forms and DB ?
i know its an old question but i am very new to this !
    thanks in advance.

You didn't mention the versions or whether you are using Developer Suite or Application Server. I guess it really doesn't matter in this case, but please provide complete information in the future.
In order to connect the F/R home to a db you will need to make the appropriate configuration entries in tnsnames.ora found in the F/R home (\NETWORK\ADMIN). The entry you add will be similar to the one found in the tnsnames.ora for the db which is found in a similar directory in the db home. The entry will look something like this:
    ORCL =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myMachine)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = myMachine)
      )
