Cannot compile SQL Developer generated pls file

I right click on a package and choose 'Save Package Spec and Body...', then I open the file to edit it.
When I try to compile the package I get the following error... in both version 2.1 and 3.0
Error(93,1): PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "/"
Very frustrating that the tool will not compile a file it created...

You're right.
This save as one option was a request, but support for such file wasn't added (at least yet). Save your specs and bodies in separate files (File - Save As).
Have fun,
K.

  • Import SQL Developer xml History files to a table

I'd like to import my SQL Developer xml history files into an Oracle table. What's the best way to do this?

I had some success in Pages 1, but I've only tried a couple of times so far in Pages 2 without success. The trick was to make sure the table is the exact number of columns wide. It's very "klunky" but I've ended up converting the tab-delimited text to a table in AppleWorks, saving the AppleWorks file with the table as a "floating" object (fixed objects don't translate) & opening the file in Pages. It's quicker & easier for most of what I do to just drag & drop in Pages.

  • SQL Developer generates strange trace files on server

    Hello out there,
I observed the generation of some strange trace files on the database server (Oracle 11.0.2.0.2 64bit on Win 2008R2).
Whenever I start SQL Developer (3.2.20.09.87 64bit with JDK 1.7.0_17 64bit on Win7 64bit) for each connection I defined one trace file like this is generated:
    Trace file C:\ORACLE\diag\rdbms\ora\ora\trace\ora_ora_8500.trc

On other servers, similar trace files are generated, one for each connection in my SQL Developer.
This also occurred with JDK 1.6 so I don't think it's a Java issue.
Besides the generation of the trace files there seem to be no other problems.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I think Srini is probably correct. The noted bug applies to 11.2.0.1 and up, is fixed in 12c, and included in an 11.2.0.3 patch. However the version of SQL Developer also affects the creation of trace files on product startup (prior to any user initiated db connect attempts).
    For example,
    A. SQL Developer 3.1.07.42 - no such trace files created.
    B. SQL Developer 3.2.20.09.87 - such trace files created for 11.2.0.1 connections, but not 10g XE or 12c connections.
So I presume an OCIServerAttach call got added in 3.2.2, not sure in support of which feature, but the bug will only impact users of 11.2.0.1, 11.2.0.2, and unpatched 11.2.0.3 DB releases.

  • Oracle SQL Developer  error - "The file-based source procedure Name is not present in the database."

I recently started working on the Oracle SQL developer. I have 'select' privileges on the QA schema and when tried to execute proc in QA. It is giving the error as 'The file-based source <procedure Name>  is not present in the database.  Was it compiled?'
instead 'you do not have sufficient privileges to execute this procedure'. Did research on internet but with no luck. What configuration changes needed to be done to make it work.Guide me.

Sounds like you do not have the correct privileges.  What should have been granted to you by the QA user, or some other user with appropriate privileges, is...
    grant EXECUTE on "QA"."<PROCEDURE_OF_INTEREST>" to "<YOUR_USERID>" ;
Note that a grant of execute on a procedure has nothing to do with grants of select on some or all of QA's tables and views.
So, as Vadim suggests, from your connection node in SQL Developer's Connections view, if you expand the Other Users node, then expand QA and look in the Procedures node, do you see the procedure of interest?  If not, you cannot expect to be able to execute it from your userid's connection. And even if you do see it, you may have some other privilege that permits viewing but not executing, like...
    The role SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE
The system privilege SELECT ANY DICTIONARY
And even if you do not see it there, then having certain other privileges granted to you could permit executing it in general, like...
    The role EXECUTE_CATALOG_ROLE
The system privilege EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE
Also, note that the 3.0 release is a bit dated nowadays. Upgrading to 4.0.3 production or even the 4.1 EA2 (early adopter) release will, in general, give you a better experience.
    Best wishes,
    Gary

I had a PL/SQL local file open (.pkb) with a database connection selected and compiled the file. There was a compilation error and when I went to correct it, SQL Developer froze (before my typing had updated the file).

I have just gotten basically the same exception on the console with EA2 using JDK 1.6.0_04. This time I had an SQL file open and had just looked at the history and switched back to the SQL tab to run a query.
Is the history tab trying to do something that is not yet being shipped with EA2?

The connection export function it's available in 2.1.1.64, you need to right click on the main Connections node, and it will allow you to export all or part of the current connections, or import from a previously exported file.
As for the highlight statement feature it's available in SQLDeveloper; actually you do not even have to highlight the required statement, as long as you take the habit of ending every statement with a ";", in this case you only need to place the caret inside the statement and SQLDeveloper will automatically highlight it for you (if you want to manually highlight a statement you can still do so without problems).
Finally as a last try to solve your connection problem without having to call for network support you could try to check
Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> Use OCI/Thick DriverThis will force SQLDeveloper to use your oracle client for connections instead of it's native JDBC based connections (even if you use TNS based connections you will still use JDBC unless you have this checked).
As for other graphical tools for Oracle there are many both free or for a price.
    1) In the for price world Toad stands out, i heard of a free option too but I'm not sure of the limitations.
    2) For free you can use DBVisualizer which is fairly good (never used it too much thou).
    3) Finally there is SQuirreL which is both free and open source but it has fairly basic functionality compared to the two above.
Obviously there are many others, but IMHO few will provide you with the same functions of SQLDeveloper or Toad for Oracle databases

  • Cannot connect SQL developer to Oracle XE

Hi, I installed Oracle Databse 10g Express Edition (Western European) from oracle.com. I also installed SQL-developer (version 1.1.2) for Windows. My home system runs on Windows XP. I followed all instructions on how to login in Oracle XE and "open" a sample user HR etc.(all success). Both Oracle XE and SQL are successfully installed and running. However when I try to create a new connection in SQL providing user name HR (also tried hr), password hr , "localhost" (or 127.0.01), port 1521, sid:XE (whatever is written in your help) I get error message:Failure ORA-00604: error occured at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified. Do you know what is the problem? Elena

    Maybe this can help:
Open Regional and Language Options, and check Regional Options.
Set Standards and Formats to English(United States) and try to connect again.
I believe there is a problem with regional settings and JDK.

  • ProC Compiler & SQL Developer

    Hi,
I am new to proc and oracle. I have installed 10g Express edition, but it does not have proc compiler.
Currently I am downloading SQL Developer, does it come with a proc compiler?
Is there anywhere I can get a proc compiler?
    Really appreciate the help.
    OS : Ubuntu 9.10
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ahamed.

    thanks for the reply...
So you mean SQL developer indeed has a proc compiler is it?...
    Thanks for your time.
    Regards,
    Ahamed.

  • Custom Reports in SQL Developer and translations files

I try to do custom reports for our development team and I would have translated ones, like standards does.
Does anyone have any informations on how to do that ?
I tried with xliff file in the same directory of my custom xml but without any result.
Has anyone new about XML schemas or DTD for customization of SQL Developer. In 2.1EA2 I haven't found anything related to this topic. Is it still maintained for the final 2.1 release ?
    P.S.
Sorry for the ugly English. It's not my mother tongue.

    Hi Chris -
I can't duplicate this here. Using RC1 against my EA2 t test repository works fine. Looking at the code, that message should only appear if either the Oracle version is less than "10" or some error occurs while trying to figure that out. I assume you are running something greater than version 10 or EA2 should/would not have worked. Can you let me know which Oracle and Java versions you are running with?

  • SQL Developer generating an XML Schema for a table

I hope I've put this question in to correct area of the forum!
My question is how do you generate an XML schema of a table layout in SQL Developer?
You can generate an XML schema for the DATA, but I just want to generate one with all the column definitions etc.
The annoying thing is I managed to do this the other day, but after attempting again for several hours I've forgotten how to do it :-(
    Thanks and regards, Adrian

A more specific answer, using SqlDeveloper itself, can be found at

  • Cannot launch SQL Developer - won't recognize Java JDK

Upon attempting to launch SQL Developer for the first time, I get a dialog box asking for the "full path to Java executable". I use the Browse function to point to my local Java 7 JDK java.exe, and nothing happens. No error message, no prompt or hint (typical of Oracle applications, I'm discovering) - the dialog box clears itself and wil not accept any java.exe I point it to.

I tried downloading Oracle SQL Developer 1.2 Patch 1 (1.2.1.32.13) using the Oracle SQL Developer for Windows (JDK1.5.0_06 is bundled in this zip) download link. I also tried downloading the latest version.
I received the error: "Connection with the server could not be established."
    Thanks

weird, I'm still able to do this. This must be on your network side. I'll ask our OTN management folks to review tho.
