Cannot launch SQL Developer - won't recognize Java JDK

Upon attempting to launch SQL Developer for the first time, I get a dialog box asking for the "full path to Java executable". I use the Browse function to point to my local Java 7 JDK java.exe, and nothing happens. No error message, no prompt or hint (typical of Oracle applications, I'm discovering) - the dialog box clears itself and wil not accept any java.exe I point it to.

  • SQL Developer 1.1 and Java problems.

I downloaded and tried to run the sqldeveloper.exe. I am getting a prompt with a browse option to java.exe. I currently have JRE 1.6 installed and somehow SQL Developer didn't like it. So I went and installed JRE 1.5 and it's still complaining that it can't find the SDK.
Do I really need to install the FULL SDK with compiler and stuff in order to run SQL Developer?
    Gena01

It requires the JDK for some of the debugging logic. In 1.0, you could get by with just the JRE if you didn't use the debugger, but that may have changed with 1.1. It isn't that big of a download, so you may just want to give it a whirl.

I have noticed that when my Anti Virus program is running (Sophos), SQL Developer takes a looooong time to launch. I suggest you post a more detailed message to the SQL Developer.

  • Sql developer won't connect to internet to check for updates

    Hi all,
When I try to check the latest updates, Sql Developer (2.1.0.63) says it can't access to Internet in order to search for updates.
The credentials that I gave are correct (proxy, port, username, password) : when I click on the "Test Proxy" button, it says everything is OK.
But when I click on the "OK" button, it won't connect.
Then I click on the "Cancel" button, and check the details and get the following stack trace:

  • Sql developer won't connect with SQL server database on cluster

    Hello,
I have a microsoft SQL server database on a windows cluster. Name for this cluster is like XXX/YYY
When I try to connect to this database with SQL developer, I get a failure, mentioning:
"Status : Failure -Cannot connect to Miscrosoft SQL Server on XXX/YYY"
As far as I know, I have installed the correct jtds driver (version 1.2.5), since I can connect to sql server databases on single server hosts.
Does anyone know how to connect to databases on windows clusters?

Try this is in the port box
    1433/dbname;instance=YYY
    dbname can be omitted

  • Oracle SQL Developer won't respond

    Hi There:
I am so stressed out these days as my SQL Developer wont' respond. When I double clicked the icon , the logo will appear and it seems the hard disk is flashing for a few seconds. After that, nothing happened. I tried several times and even downloaded another copy of SQL Developer but still no luck.
Is anyone here having the same issue and how did you solve that?
    Thanks a lot
    A stressed out programmer.

The only difference is that one shows the java console and any output there while the normal one hides the details. Running it is a diagnostic test, not a solution;-)
    Does the original work now?

  • SQl Developer won't start

I am using Windows XP Professional. I am also using Java 1.6.26. Whenever I try to start SQL Developer, nothing happens. Is there a log for SQL Developer that I could look at somewhere on my machine? I don't get any errors.... its just that nothing happens. I can see the sqldeveloper.exe process pop up momentarily and then disappear sometimes when I look at Task Manager while trying to start SQL Developer. Any advice?

what a nightmare install oracle 11g in windows 7, it's an awful experience, i take introduction to sql and workshop I from oracle university, and i need to practice with in my 32 bit laptop SQL developer simply doesn't works, my first install was corrupted, then i reinstall and get a second no functional installation and neither of both can be uninstaled. i think that i may be need to reinstala the operating system, what a waste of time :-(

  • SQL Developer EA 3.1 -Java Null pointer exception when loading model viewer

    a) I have a simple 3 node flow -- 1) DataSource selects CLOB and VARCHAR column; 2) BuildText node transforms CLOB into NESTED COLUMN; 3) ClustBuild node build K-Means cluster
    b) The "run" step succeeds for all three nodes, however when I try to launch the viewer for the cluster model, it fails with the stack trace below after 5 mins or so. I have a custom stoplist for the BuildText node that extends the "English" stoplist. If I replace the custom stoplist with the "default" (the English stoplist I believe), then the viewer loads without the exception.
NB) Database version is 11.2.0.1.0, Sql Dev build is 3.1.06 Build MAIN-06-44

We have been working on some performance issues tied to viewing large cluster models.
Maybe... this is tied to that.
    1) Can you run the following query in sql worksheet to see how many distinct attributes are in the root cluster node. Just replace the 'CLUS_KM_1_16' value with your model name.
    SELECT count(distinct(h.attribute_name || h.attribute_subname))
    FROM TABLE(DBMS_DATA_MINING.GET_MODEL_DETAILS_KM('CLUS_KM_1_16',1,NULL, 0, 1, 0)) t,
    TABLE(t.histogram) h
    2) Can you launch the client with the console window to see if there is an earlier exception that is being eaten that is leading to the final exception.
You can do this by using the finding the following executable and using it to launch sql dev:
    C:\<SQL DEV INSTALL FOLDER>\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exe
    3) Of course, recreating the problem on our side is necessary. This might be difficult without opening a support ticket, but if you are able to post a script that creates a table using some demo data that ships with the db, we should be able to determine the problem pretty quickly.
    Thanks, Mark

  • Cannot launch SQL Server management studio

    Hi people,
I cannot launch the sql server management studio. In the event log, appear the next entry:
Faulting application ssmsee.exe, version 2005.90.2047.0, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.4053, fault address 0x0000e7a2.
What can i do for repair this? Uninstall the sql instance? This affect to sap system installed?
    Other options?
    More thanks

    Hi Ruben,
What is the MS SQL Server version and SP level ? Which windows server is it - 2000/2003/2008 - 32bit/64 bit ?
Is the database/SAP up and running ?
I got to see another old thread for similar problem from you. Is it a regular problem or just something happened recently ? Any configuration changes/any activity related to MS SQL Server or any OS changes done recently ? But as the link suggests in your old thread, may be you can give it a try or try upgrading the sql server to a higher SP level ?
Starting SQL Server Management Studio Express
If you are an SAP customer, I would suggest you to open a customer message if the problem is urgent and in productive/live landscape.
    Thanks

The connection export function it's available in 2.1.1.64, you need to right click on the main Connections node, and it will allow you to export all or part of the current connections, or import from a previously exported file.
As for the highlight statement feature it's available in SQLDeveloper; actually you do not even have to highlight the required statement, as long as you take the habit of ending every statement with a ";", in this case you only need to place the caret inside the statement and SQLDeveloper will automatically highlight it for you (if you want to manually highlight a statement you can still do so without problems).
Finally as a last try to solve your connection problem without having to call for network support you could try to check
Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> Use OCI/Thick DriverThis will force SQLDeveloper to use your oracle client for connections instead of it's native JDBC based connections (even if you use TNS based connections you will still use JDBC unless you have this checked).
As for other graphical tools for Oracle there are many both free or for a price.
    1) In the for price world Toad stands out, i heard of a free option too but I'm not sure of the limitations.
    2) For free you can use DBVisualizer which is fairly good (never used it too much thou).
    3) Finally there is SQuirreL which is both free and open source but it has fairly basic functionality compared to the two above.
Obviously there are many others, but IMHO few will provide you with the same functions of SQLDeveloper or Toad for Oracle databases

  • Cannot connect SQL developer to Oracle XE

Hi, I installed Oracle Databse 10g Express Edition (Western European) from oracle.com. I also installed SQL-developer (version 1.1.2) for Windows. My home system runs on Windows XP. I followed all instructions on how to login in Oracle XE and "open" a sample user HR etc.(all success). Both Oracle XE and SQL are successfully installed and running. However when I try to create a new connection in SQL providing user name HR (also tried hr), password hr , "localhost" (or 127.0.01), port 1521, sid:XE (whatever is written in your help) I get error message:Failure ORA-00604: error occured at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified. Do you know what is the problem? Elena

    Maybe this can help:
Open Regional and Language Options, and check Regional Options.
Set Standards and Formats to English(United States) and try to connect again.
I believe there is a problem with regional settings and JDK.

  • SQL Developer does not recognize my network drive

I have to cut and paste the full path including the document name in order to pull up a file from my network drive.  Same issue if I try to save a new document to my network drive.
This is all I see when trying to open a document:
However, you can see I have lots of drives mapped:

Found the issue.  Right Clicked on the shortcut I was using to run SQL Developer, chose Properties, clicked on the Compatibility tab, and unchecked 'Run this program as an administrator' under Privilege Level.
