Cannot connect jdev2.0 with oracle 8i

I cannot connect my jdev2.0 with oracle 8i.
I am getting the following error.
"The network adapter couldn't make the connection"
I would be really thankful if someone can help me this problem.

I guess I should have also askced you which driver you are using to connect.. thin or OCI.
First thing you should do is select your project and choose Properties from the right-mouse menu. Make sure 'Oracle 8.1.5 JDBC' shows up in the Libraries list. If it doesn't, choose Add to add it.
If you are using the thin driver, try using the Named Host method of connecting (rather than existing TNS Names). This method does not depend on an external Oracle Home like the TNS method does.
If you do want to use the TNS method, choose Tools|IDE Options from the menu. On the Environment tab, you can explictly set which Oracle Home to have JDeveloper look for the TNS entry.
Also, for the thin driver, check the Oracle 8.1.5 JDBC User's Guide and reference. There is a section in Chapter 1 or 2 which provides sample code for testing a JDBC connection from the command line.
If you are using the OCI driver, and your database is on the same machine that you are running JDev from: make sure that the Oracle Home JDev is using is the one where your database is installed.
If you are using the OCI driver and the database is on a different machine, you need to install the Oracle Client software that matches the version of the JDBC drivers you are using (by default, 8.1.5 in JDev 2.0 and 3.0).

    Hi SSDL,
    According to the error message, the issue is that the user cannot connect to the Oracle server. To fix this issue, please refer to the following suggestions:
    Verify the Oracle server is installed on the server that the connection string indicates. It means that verify the connection string is incorrect.
    Does the user that runs the package the correct
    authorization?
    Check if the SQL Agent job step that runs this package is set to run it in 32 bit mode.

    Hi
    i already make a entry in TNSNAMES.ora Another option...
    1. Pls Verify that the net service name you entered was correct including no spaces.
    2.Verify that the ADDRESS portion of the connect descriptor which corresponds to the net service name is correct.
    3.Ensure that the destination process (for example the listener) is running at the remote node and the cabel of ur local net work connecting to ur server is well connected and working well.
    4. Test ur local network cabel and try to make the connection to another computer set.
    5.u can check from Start > control panel > administrative tools > services that the service name is started or not if it is Started Restarted or refresh it.

    To configure Oracle JDBC:
    1. Add Oracle JDBC JAR file classes12.zip or ojdbc14.zip to classpath.
    2. Load and register the JDBC driver.
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    3. Obtain a connection:
    String url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@<host>:1521:<database>
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,
    "myLogin", "myPassword");

    How do I fix this? Help Please!
    Also, is there a way to bring my BAM installation back to its vanilla state? Maybe run the Repository Creation Utility once more? Are there any files on the server that has to be cleaned?
    Thanks

    Hello SOA gurus,
    We're getting the same error as well. Our's a Linux environment and we've configured 2 managed servers (soa_server and bam_server)
    Log file for the bam_server throws up this error message periodically. Looks like the other server doesn't. Does this message pertain to only BAM server ? (I'm new to SOA suite).
    Also, is this a show stopper ? I've seen the managed server going down at times and wasn't sure if it was due to this error. Don't know if this error can be ignored or need to fix.
    Can someone help on how to fix this really soon please ?
    Thanks
    Muthu

  • Cannot connect properly to Oracle on Linux from Windows

    Good day all,
    I’ve got 2 virtual machines running on my Mac:
    -     Centos 5.4 with Oracle 11gR2
    -     Windows 2003 server with Oracle 10gR2
    From Linux box I have access to Oracle database on Windows box (both directly and via a database link), however from Windows I have problems accessing the oracle database on the Linux box.
    From Windows, if I try to set up a connection using Oracle’s SQL Developer using connection type “Basic”, I get “IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection”. When I use “TNS”, then it works.
    From the linux box it all works fine as the “oracle” user, but when I log on as another user (in this case “informatica”) it doesn’t work properly any more.
    To sketch what both environments look like.

    What’s noticeable is that port 1521 seems solely assigned to the localhost IP-address, 127.0.0.1.
    Another thing I noticed is that from a different user in Linux, so not “oracle”, using SQL Developer I cannot access the local Oracle database via TNS. When choosing TNS the dropdown box for “Network Alias” – which normally is populated with entries from TNSNAMES.ORA – is completely empty. On a “users and groups” level I basically assigned all the groups the oracle user is member of, to the other user (called informatica).
    And to make it even more interesting, at first it worked using “Basic” (in SQL Developer), but since implementing the TNS_ADMIN environment variable, it doesn’t work at all !!!
    Trying it via SQLPLUS as the “informatica” doesn’t work either:
    [informatica@ilmserver ~]$ sqlplus system
    bash: sqlplus: command not found
    I’ve assigned the “dba” group to “informatica”, or rather, I have assigned all groups to the “informatica” user as the “oracle” user has.
    Needless to say I am no Linux expert, rather a quite inexperienced Linux-user.
    So bottom line, the situation I’d like to be able to create is the following:
    •     Linux Oracle DB accessible from “informatica” (or any other) user on Linux, via both TNS and java-based
    •     Linux Oracle DB accessible from remote machine (running Windows 2003 server) via both TNS and java-based
    •     And for Informatica to work properly, it says it needs the TNS_ADMIN environment variable, so the “informatica” user must have full Oracle connectivity with TNS_ADMIN in place.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Patrick

    Hi Billy,
    Thanks for your elaborate answer.
    Not sure whether I can use it though, since the application using the oracle database (i.e. Informatica ILM 5.3.2) appears to have a specific need for TNS.
    I thought I had a solution (not the prettiest for sure) by just copying TNSNAMES.ORA to an accessible location, change ownership to "informatica" user, have TNS_ADMIN point to it, and Bob should be my uncle. Well... he isn't!
    In SQL Developer when I choose TNS as connection type, the drop down box is STILL empty.....aaaaahhhh!!!!!
    I was advised to play around with primary groups, so I tried oinstall and dba as primary groups for informatica user, all to no avail.
    And I can't even test it with SQLPLUS because I don't have access to it as "informatica".
    Who knows what the exact reason for that is... I know I'm a far cry from an experienced linux user, but I assumed that having the Oracle Home bin directory in PATH, and assigning the oinstall group to informatica user, would ensure access to to any executable in there. Well... NOT!!!
    +[informatica@ilmserver ~]$ sqlplus system@orcl+
    bash: sqlplus: command not found
    This is driving me nuts. Thought that finding a solution for this wouldn't be this hard, but essentially I've been digging for 3 days now.

  • Connect Problems with Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2

    Hello,
    I am a student trying to install Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2 and SQL Developer on my home system, Win7 64Bit, in order to practice some things I've learned from me DBA class and Developer classes.
    Anyway, I have everything installed, but I am having difficulty connecting as SYS or SYSDBA in the 'Run SQL Command Line', I keep getting the ORA-01017: invalid username/password: logon denied.
    However, If i select the 'Start Database' I get this:
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin>
    and I can type sqlplus / as sysdba and it starts up just fine and show user lists me as "SYS".
    but if I go back to 'Run SQL Command Line' I still cannot connect as SYS or SYSDBA...I find this both confusing and frustrating. I don't know if I am in different instances or something like that, but I seem to be limited to connecting only as "SYSTEM". I need SYS because I want to practice creating datafiles, instances and things like that, but I seem to be lost.
    Also, I am trying to create a new DB connection with SQL Developer and I can only us SYSTEM for my login which, if I understand correctly, will limit my privileges. Again When I try to sign in with SYS or SYSDBA I get error'd out. When I installed Ora11gDBExpress I was prompted in input a single password that was supposed to grant me access as SYS or SYSTEM, but I am limited to only SYSTEM for some reason.
    So, I am looking for help/guidance as to what to do.
    Thanks in advance for any and all help,
    Warren

    General rule of thumb, don't use sysdba unless you want to shut down the database, or grant a database user privileges on a sys object.
    A SYSTEM connection is not "limiting", it has the DBA role which means a user with a system connection can do most anything needed, including select/update/delete/drop any user's objects as well as change parameters in the instance.
    The system user can indeed add datafiles, tablespaces, etc. The instance and database should already be created as long as the installer completed all its chores correctly. For XE, per the license agreement only one instance can run on one host. If you want to try creating a database, it will require shutting down the XE instance and creating a new database service, creating the database, and installing the system catalog and any other optional components desired. Good practice indeed, but a bit advanced for the new user.
    Do create users for schemas ... connect system; create user <username> identified by <password> and connect <username> for the schemas (a collection of objects) within the database. Grant the resource and create session privilege to <username> to allow the database user the ability to create tables, indexes, stored procedures, etc.
    There is no "or" in a sys as sysdba connection, from 10g onwards a sys connection requires using the sysdba privilege. To enable a sysdba connection, add your host user to the ORA_DBA group on the host. To verify the OS users in the ORA_DBA group, this might work for win7, in a cmd box ...
    $ net localgroup ora_dba
    ...If your OS user is in the ora_dba group the sys as sysdba password is not relevant, you can in fact type anything for a password. If you wish to connect with the sysdba privilege from a remote client, that is a bit different and requires knowing the password set in the instance password file. Which should be set the same as the system password defined in the installer, but you can change that by creating a new password file. Another slightly advanced topic.
    In Windows IMHO its better to leave the listener and database set to Manual start (in the services applet, Start/Run/services.msc) and start the listener, then the database, when its needed. At least for an XE instance, as its intended for practice and learning RDBMS management.

  • Client side connection problems with Oracle

    Hello,
    I'm using JUnit to test my code and am having client connection problems.
    Weblogic server 6.1sp2, oracle 8.1.7, win 2000
    I create an oracle user on the fly (with a dynamic name) and then need to connect
    so I'm getting a direct connection, rather than using a connection pool.
    it works fine when run through the container, but when run through JUnit I get the
    following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: The pool driver only works within the WebLogic server, it
    cannot be called directly in a client. Use the t3 driver.
    So i changed the code to:
    driver = (Driver)Class.
         forName("weblogic.jdbc.t3.Driver").newInstance();
    from:
    driver = (Driver)Class.
         forName("weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver").newInstance();
    and now i get this error:
    java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!
    Sara

    Hi Sara,
    You may want to look at Cactus framework. This is a JUnit extension
    for serverside tests. You won't need to care about server/client
    configuration:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/cactus/index.html

    Hi Sree,
    Actually, I also have a connection pool, so I am getting connections tothe database
    both using the pool (for the static user) and directly for the dynamicusers.
    >
    Here's the code in the config.xml:
    <JDBCConnectionPool CapacityIncrement="2"
    DriverName="weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver" InitialCapacity="6"LoginDelaySeconds="1" MaxCapacity="60"
    Name="pics"
    Properties="weblogic.oci.cacheRows=500;user=**;password=**;defaultRowPrefetc
    h=500;server=nmctest"
    RefreshMinutes="10" ShrinkPeriodMinutes="15"
    ShrinkingEnabled="true" Targets="nmc2Server"
    TestTableName="dual" URL="jdbc:weblogic:oracle"/>
    <JDBCTxDataSource EnableTwoPhaseCommit="false"
    JNDIName="weblogic.jdbc.jts.pics" Name="pics" PoolName="pics"Targets="nmc2Server"/>
    >
    And if I change the above DriverName to weblogic.jdbc.pool.Driver the poolno longer
    works, and the direct connection (attempted with weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver)does not
    work either.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Problem in connecting netbeans with oracle 10g express edition

    hi friends... i need help in connecting the database with netbeans..... in netbeans, under services option... i have a option for database... but am not getting any drop-down while right clicking to add a new database... i tried in both netbeans6.9 and netbeans7... what should i do to connect netbeans7 to oracle 1og express edition.... pls help me friends.... pls do reply

    First of all, I think your dot... button is broken, it keeps repeating which makes it SO much harder to read your post.
    Secondly, I suggest you take your question to the Netbeans mailing lists. This is a Java programming forum, not a technical support forum for the hundreds of tools available to support Java programming.

  • Problem In connecting Client with oracle

    hello all,
    I am trying to connect a system, with my oracle server, but the client machine is also having oracle installed on it. Is it possible to connect same machin with my oracle server. I am working on Oracle 8i.

    Except version incompatibility, any Oracle system can connect to any Oracle DB, any Oracle server can work as Client to another Oracle server.
    On the machine that works as Client you have only to configure a TNS alias to connect to the DB on the other machine.

    maybe if you asked nicely instead of ordering people around we might tell you.
    As it is all you're going to hear is that you don't need both those jars, as they contain different versions of the same driver.
    I'm not going to tell you which you need, as you should have the documentation to tell you that. But then you also should have the documentation to tell you how to set your classpath properly and you failed to read that too.
