Cannot Connect to AE After Coming out of Sleep Mode

This happens on both my iMac and Powerbook. I don't normally use wireless on the iMac but I discovered that both computers are having the same issue when troubleshooting. When coming out of Sleep mode, the Airport device cannot connect to the Airport Express. The only thing that can consistently connect is my Blackberry.
I know it's not a reception problem as when I am able to connect, the signal is strong and speeds are very good.
Some things I have tried to fix the problem have worked but not consistently as the problem keeps happening:
-Turn Airport off and back on (On the computer)
-Unplug and plug back in the AE
-Turn off MAC Address Filtering
-Factory reset the Airport Express
-Select the Join Other Network option and re-enter my wpa2 credentials
-Uncheck Closed Network option
What could be the problem? I'm really thinking there is a software bug somewhere. I have also noticed if I make any changes in the Airport Utility the AE never recovers as it stays a solid amber. I have to power cycle the device.
It's using software version 6.3 and all my OS X updates are the latest. This is very frustrating. Any help appreciated.

I have tried both remedies mentioned above. I double-checked and my network is listed in the wireless advanced settings. It's the only network in my list. Airport is at the top in my Network Preferences as well.
I was hoping the update to 10.5.8 would help but the problem keeps occurring. One thing I have tried is leaving the "Closed Network Option" unchecked for my AE. Now, I am discovering when exiting sleep mode, I see my network but when it tries to connect, I receive the error "Connection Timeout". This happens on both computers.
The only thing that works the most consistently is unplugging the AE and plugging back in. Once I'm connected, it works great.
I tried using iStumbler to see if there were any other networks using the same channel but that looks okay.
I guess I can try using a different security setting other than WPA2, but then that is not really a solution. I'm about ready to just try some other newer wireless solution. It used to work flawlessly. I think until 10.5.4, I had no issues.

  • Locked out of machine after coming out of sleep mode (passwd not accepted)

info macbook (intel) 10.5.1 (was upgraded from Tiger)
    single user setup
after waking up machine or coming out of sleep mode (i.e lifting lid) occasionally cannot login at all, password is refused. Multiple failed attempts. Its not a problem of caps lock on.
Only solution is to force power down of machine and then OS comes back up, HOWEVER, without demanding a password after power up (hardly very secure), afterwards it may work OK for a few days (with a number of sleep cycles) before same login problem happens again.
    Is this a known problem?

Please do both of the following:
    1) Turn the computer off. Press and hold shift. Turn the computer on. Continue to hold shift until you see the spinning gear below the Apple logo. Once it is started up, log in. Does it do the same thing here? If it works, please know this is not a fix, just an isolation step.
    2) Test this in another user account on the computer. If you don't have one, create one in: Apple menu> System Preferences> Accounts. Click the lock in the lower left corner if it is locked and enter your password. Click the + just above the lock and type in "test" for all the fields it asks for. If you are on 10.4 or earlier, check off "Allow user to administer this computer". If you are on Leopard, make the account type an Administrator. Click "Create account". Click the Apple menu and select the last item ("Log Out" Account name). Log in as the test account and test. Note: You will have to set it to ask you for a password when waking from sleep (Apple> System Prefernces> Security> Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver)
Let me know the result of those tests. Please make sure to try both, as they will allow me to see what may be causing the issue.

  • Airport doesn't locate my network after coming out of sleep mode

Hi, seems that my imac has a hard time connecting with my network when coming out of sleep mode. Even when I choose the proper network, it still asks for my password (even thought it's populated in teh password field) and when I choose OK, it still times out quite often. Eventually if I turn it off and on or restart comp, it comes up OK.
I'm a little afraid to repair permissions as I have a HP C7280 all in one that the general school of thought is don't repair permissions as Leopard thinks they need repair, but in fact are OK and when "repaired" stop the machine from working properly. It took me a while to get it going in the first place, I dont want to break it again! Any ideas?? Thanks, Dan

  • A665-s6065 crashes after coming out of sleep mode

I recently upgraded up to 8gb of RAM.  Ever since I did this, when my computer comes out of sleep mode, it crashes within a matter of seconds.  To get the 8gb of RAM to work in the first place, I had to update my BIOS.  So I know that is not the issue.

Most likely, one of these is the culprit.

  • Monitor black after coming out of sleep mode

Every time my computer goes into sleep mode, after 5 minutes i think is what it set at, the screen is black.  I can see the desktop on each side of the black part of the screen, but only about a 1/16th of an inch.  I have to turn off, then back on the screen to get the picture.  It doesnt seem to make any difference what i have for settings for the sleep time.  Only if i turn off sleep mode of course.  Ive downloaded all the updates but no success.  This is a problem ive had for years just thought id take another crack at it.  The monitor is a 2159m.  Its about 6 or 7 years old now, but still this is very annoying.  Any thing you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Thank you for the response. This issue could potentially have numerous causes, so I will suggest multiple troubleshooting avenues.
First, your Windows 7 might perform "hybrid sleep" instead of the regular sleep mode. This would illustrate the exact situation you have explained. For instructions on verifying, enabling, and disabling hybrid sleep mode, please reference this website: http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-7/turn-off-hybrid-sleep-in-windows-7/
If this does not resolve the issue, the next troubleshooting step will be restoring the power defaults to normal settings. To perform this task, go to the start menu, type “CMD” in the search bar. Now, you should see a shortcut for CMD above. Right click on it, and click “run as administrator”. If it asks you for administrative permission, please allow permission.
You should see Command Prompt open. Type the following command in this window and hit Enter afterward (without the quotations): "powercfg -restoredefaultschemes"
Restart the computer afterward and observe what happens. If the issue persists, this is next command I require you to enter in Command Prompt as administrator (without the quotations): "sfc /scannow".
This will take a series of minutes to complete. Running this might find a corrupted file or service and repair it. After it completes it will basically say either no corrupted files were found, corrupted files were found and repaired, or corrupted files were found but were unable to be repaired. Restart after this completes and observe the results.
If the issue still persists, the next step will be performing a hard reset on the desktop. To do this, turn off the computer, and unplug all cables attached to the tower and monitor (including all power sources) for a few minutes. Plug all the cables back in and turn on the computer, and see if the issue persists.
if the issue is not eliminated, I would attempt all pertinent troubleshooting steps in these HP documents below (since they address causes for black screens in various situations):
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01881110 (this document is specific to notebooks, so please follow all relevant troubleshooting)
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=bph04760
If the issue is not resolved, you are likely experiencing a hardware failure. At that point you should contact HP technical support for additional information. You can utilize this website to locate the most suitable number, based on your region: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
Please let me know if you found this information useful by marking it with a Kudos and Accepted Solution, and others will be able to locate this information easier. Please inform me with your results, and any additional questions or concerns. I will look forward to your response.

  • Video problems after coming out of sleep mode

    Here's my setup:
Apple TV connected to HDMI switch (Rocketfish) then to Samsung DLP TV.
If I turn everything off and then later in the day try to watch the Apple TV, I get sound, but no picture. I shouldn't say "no picture" as the TV detects input (ie, not showing the "no input" screen)... just a black screen.
I can hear the Apple TV as I move through the menu by using the remote, but again... no picture.
I've tried power cycling the switch and the TV to no avail. I've also unplugged and plugged in the HDMI cable (as soon as I unplug the HDMI cable, I get the no signal screen). None of that does anything.
The only thing that works is unplugging the power cable and then plugging it back in. It then re-boots and works fine... until the next time when the exact same stuff happens.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

I was going to write that I have the same problem, but I think I've just found the solution! (If you can call it that…)
It seems that when you switch to the input to the one that the Apple TV is on, a signal is sent through the HDMI cable that automatically wakes the ATV. If you interrupt it with the remote while it's auto-waking, it gets upset and shuts the whole business down. Try this after you've had your ATV asleep for a few hours
1.) Turn on the television/display and make sure it's on the correct input
2.) Turn on the receiver and set it to the input coming from the ATV if it isn't set to that already
3.) Wait at least 30 seconds
This has been working for me. I just tried to replicate it before posting this, but I'd apparently used my ATV recently enough that I needed to wake it with the remote. I still haven't been able to find much consistency in the behavior, but I haven't needed to unplug and replug the device since I started doing this.
Let me know how it goes!

  • Macbook pro freezes after coming out of sleep mode

Lately my 13" early 2011 Macbook Pro has been locking up when in sleep mode. All I get is a blank screen and the cursor which responds, but no buttons pushed on the keyboard resolve issue. Resolution thus far has been to hard boot the macbook... Anyone have any ideas how to troubleshoot or determine cause of issue?

    Try Reset SMC.

  • Windows 7 Sleep issues--freezes after coming out of sleep

Running Windows 7 rig with MSI MS-7511 Mobo. Back in October, I purchased a refurb Microsoft Wireless 6000 keyboard and installed it. I THINK this is what started my problems. Since then, computer will go into sleep mode as usual, but at some point after coming out of sleep (maybe a few seconds, maybe an hour) it will totally freeze. The only way to get the system back up is to unplug it and re-start.
I have since uninstalled the keyboard, and tried to restore, but still having the problem. Pretty sure it's a USB problem, but I have tried re-installing drivers (mcp732) and even the MB BIOS. If I run the system without my wireless mouse and with no USB devices, it works fine. I have also tried switching USB devices to different ports, to no avail.
It's not just the mouse that causes the issues, it seems to be any connected USB device.
Also--and I think this is weird-I installed a PCI USB card in one of the slots and transferred my mouse to that and the same thing still happens. Wouldn't that be a totally different set of drivers than the ones that drive the main MB USB devices?
Don't know what to try next . . . want to avoid having to do a Windows re-install if possible.
Below are the errors I get when I run powercfg -ENERGY.
Any ideas? Would like to avoid giving away another two days of my life re-installing my software.

I don't think I've had a setup yet where sleepmode wasn't causing issues, I shut it off.
Sleep has only become an issue with Windows 7, where MS got so aggressive about it, and caused so many problems for so many people, that many have done as you and turned it off! Shame on you Microsoft! Instead of saving energy your customers are leaving their PCs on!
I suspect the OP's problem is with (of all things) the MS wireless mouse/kb driver(s). At first my setup wouldn't work at all, then I dl'ed the newest Intellimouse drivers/software and it worked "better", but I have never been able to get Sleep to work reliably. I finally found that Hibernate works reliably, so that is all I do now. When the PC is done working, it saves to HDD and shuts off. Resuming from this state takes longer than resuming from Sleep, but at least it Works Every Time.

  • Apple app windows disappear after coming out of sleep

In Yosemite, after coming out of sleep, some Apple apps are still active but the windows have disappeared. I have noticed this with the Activity Monitor and with the Calculator. I played around with Hide/Show Windows, etc and was finally able to make the Activity Monitor window show up. I was unable to get the window to show up in the Calculator. Killing and restarting the app resolved the issue.
I have not had any problems with non-Apple apps, and Finder and Safari seem to be OK.

Further correction: Even when initially launched, after a restart Activity Monitor and Settings will both launch with no windows. There is a window name shown when right clicking on the icon in the Dock and in the application menu, but clicking on the window does not bring it up for display. With no Activity Monitor, you have to use command line, ps command and kill to clear the processes, following which they can be relaunched with all windows displayed.

  • Display is all snow coming out of Sleep mode

Just replaced a 17" LCD (using the mini-DVI-to-VGA) with a new Acer 24" widescreen LCD (using mini-DVI-to-DVI). After a little fiddling with the profile, I've got a pretty nice picture. Problem: coming out of sleep mode, the screen is all snow. If I pop the monitor off and on, everything comes back normal. I did NOT have this problem with the older 17". This is more of an annoyance than a major issue, since just a couple of hits of the on-off button correct it. But it ain't right, so I'm hoping I can fix it for good. It happens whether the Mini goes to sleep by itself or if I put it to sleep. I don't know if it's a DVI issue, monitor issue, or something goofy with the Mini's video.
I did a search and found similar issues, but not exactly the same, and saw no suggested resolutions that fixed them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks ...
    Ed

The 9400M device driver on our Macs appears to be really bad.
My buddy tried to put a Sharp LCD projector on the external port on his Mac laptop, which also had a Nvidia 9400M, and it was not usable. The picture kept coming and going. The projector screen would go blank, then a picture would come up, go blank, and then the picture would come back again, over and over. Being an experienced Mac, PC, and Linux user, I attempted to help him get it working using the display properties page in the System Preferences. Nothing helped.
I'm having similar troubles with the second port on my 9400M on my new Mac mini.
The primary display is fine. I have a 24" Acer LCD on the miniport to DVI converter for my second display, and it works most of the time, however the picture goes to snow fairly often, and blacks out sometimes, too. It usually comes back. Occasionally, I have to power cycle the LCD to get the picture back.
Seeing similar problems with two different DVI display devices, when these devices work fine on our PCs, seems to point the problem at the Mac Nvidia display driver.
