Cannot create a constraint beacuse of ORA-00955

Hi !
I was trying to create a constraint on a table after dropping it just in case:
ALTER TABLE NEQResultByChunk
DROP CONSTRAINT pk_neqresultbychunk
OUTPUT: >> ERROR at line 2:
ORA-02443: Cannot drop constraint - nonexistent constraint
ALTER TABLE NEQResultByChunk
ADD (
CONSTRAINT pk_neqresultbychunk PRIMARY KEY
(woName, sdtName, neqrIndex, sotName, soName)
USING INDEX TABLESPACE &&idxtspace
OUTPUT: >> ALTER TABLE NEQResultByChunk

ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object
There has to be somethink hang somewhere since using a different name works for the constraint works ok. I could not find this constraint in user_constraints table.
Any idea on where to look for it ?
I already brought dow the DB.

Why should i delete the index manually?
In most cases, the index will be remove when i delete the corresponding constraint.

Hello everybody,
I have from time to time to create Intermedia or Oracle text indexes in Oracle databes, most 10g ones.
Today I did it in a Oracle 10g under Linux RHEL 5, with this few usual commands:
1) connect SYS/**** as SYSDBA;
2) CREATE TABLESPACE "DRSYS" LOGGING DATAFILE '/path_to_index_files/drsys.ora' SIZE 25M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 1280K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL AUTOALLOCATE SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO;
3) @$ORACLE_HOME/ctx/admin/catctx.sql ctxsys DRSYS TEMP NOLOCK
4) connect ctxsys/ctxsys;
5) @$ORACLE_HOME/ctx/admin/defaults/drdeff.sql;
6) connect sa/*****;
7) CREATE INDEX pj_index ON sa.tpiecejointe(pjcontenu) INDEXTYPE IS ctxsys.context parameters ('sync (every "SYSDATE+12/24")');
My issue occured at the 7th step:

Hi,
for using the sync parameter, the user needs to be granted to execute a job. Oracle makes a job to do the sync. So issue:
GRANT CREATE JOB TO SMADMIN;
from SYS/SYSTEM.

ORA-00955 reports when I try to "create global temporary table" in windows

Hi,
When I try to run the sql in my oracle 9i server which is installed in a windows2000 machine,
Create global temporary table test ...;
For the first time, I can create table successfully.
But I cannot access this table any more:
drop table test;
desc test;
select * from test;
In addition, if I try to create the table again, I got the error:
ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object
While the same table can be created and dropped in another oracle9i server which is installed in Solaris 9 machine.
So I suspect that this sould be a bug of window oracle server.
Is there anyone who can confirm this?
Or who can tell me how to report this bug to oracle?

If you search the text: "create global temporary table sess_event", you can see for the first time, the table is created successfully.
But the ORA-00955 reports when the author try to create table for the second time.
This problem is exactly the same as my problem.
I have also made a search both in Google and in Oracle website and I cannot find any solution of it.

How did you difine the temporary tables? on commit delete rows are reserv rows?

Cause: Neither ROWIDs and nor primary key constraints are supported for complex queries.
Action: Reissue the command with the REFRESH FORCE or REFRESH COMPLETE option or create a simple materialized view.
Then you have to change REFRESH FAST or create a primary key in MS_TASK@efms_link to avility fast refresh.

ORA-02348: cannot create VARRAY column with embedded LOB

Hi
This error message I get when I try to create a table from my schema file which has a (sub-) element of type CLOB.
In my XML document I have an element which needs to become declared a CLOB (because it's > 4000 bytes), in my Schema I define it's element node like:
<xs:element name="MocovuState" xdb:SQLType="CLOB">
I can register this Schema file but when I create the table, I get the error:
ORA-02348: cannot create VARRAY column with embedded LOB
Does anybody know how to handle this ?

You need to use the xdb:storeVarrayAsTable="true" schema annotation so that unbounded elements are created at schema registration time as nested tables. Varrays can not contain CLOBs/BLOBS. Use the schema annotation xdb:SQLType="CLOB" to tell Oracle XMLDB to use CLOB storage for the element. See your schema below:

I'm getting this error "duplicate keys found". I'm finished installing the central instance and during the database instance, i got this error. I'm installing BW 3.5 on x64 windows server 2003 platform. I'm using NU kernel 6.40.

Cannot resolve ORA-00955 error.

I have a script which I run to drop and create preferences, set attributes and drop and create a context index. When dropping and creating preferences and setting the attributes everything works fine and I get the standard messages.
My problem is I get the
ORA-00955 name is already used by an existing object
even after seeing the messages "index dropped" and index created.
I have checked the ctx_user_index_errors view and the timestamps are from when I approximately ran my script so it seems the index worked.
I have tried prefacing the index name with the schema name both when dropping and creating the index and I have even tried to use the keyword "force" when trying to drop the index, yet I still get the ORA-00955 error.
A snippet from my code is below:

I think my problem was I really had a semi colon and a a foward slash at the end of the file, hence there was attempt to create the index twice, once for when the command was ended with a semicolon and once with the foward slash. I just removed the slash and everything worked fine.

ORA-12913: Cannot create dictionary managed tablespace

I am using the following statement:
CREATE TABLESPACE data01
DATAFILE 'D:\ORACLE\ORADATA\SSR\data01.dbf' SIZE 2M
EXTENT MANAGEMENT DICTIONARY;
and I get the following error message:
ORA-12913: Cannot create dictionary managed tablespace
If I take off EXTENT MANAGEMENT DICTIONARY, the statement executes. What am I doing wrong?

Use the CREATE TABLESPACE statement to create a tablespace, which is an allocation of space in the database that can contain persistent schema objects.
When you create a tablespace, it is initially a read/write tablespace. You can subsequently use the ALTER TABLESPACE statement to take the tablespace offline or online, add datafiles to it, or make it a read-only tablespace.
You can also drop a tablespace from the database with the DROP TABLESPACE statement.
You can use the CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE statement to create tablespaces that contain schema objects only for the duration of a session.

It seems you have hit a limitation of the Oracle version, which you don't post.
Limitations are sometimes also called a 'feature'.
You would need to find out whether this restriction has been lifted in a subsequent release or redesign your application.

Also increase shared memory hence creating the same problem.
Can anyone sujjest me what would be the cause?

Increase parameter streams_pool.
Set it for example to 100MB
Then try again.

Ora-12914: cannot create dictionary tablespace during tablespace creation.

Hi All,
I am new to Database and trying to create the dictionary tablespace in Database but its showing error like ora-12914: cannot create dictionary tablespace during tablespace creation.
Do i need to set any parameter for this error?
Please let me know the cause for this error.

If system tablespace (I think from release 10g) is local management, all tablespaces must be local, dictionary is not possible
