Cannot Create PDF after CS5 install (MAC)

I haven't tried every app, but so far ID, PS, and Illustrator only show my previous Acrobat 9 as an option to print a PDF file. When I use this option, nothing happens. If a file is created I have no idea where it is, since I never get to the point of being able to name it or give it a destination.  Can anyone help me get Acrobat X working?
On a Macbook Pro...

Sounds like Acrobat X might not have been installed, but I'm not sure that's relevant.  What version of Mac OS? Since Snow Leopard print to PDF no longer works the way it used to. See InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Acrobat’s Adobe PDF Printer Replaced in Snow Leopard
For Exporting PDF, the recommended methos to creat PDF from ID, or to save PDF directly from Photoshop or Illustrator, Acrobat is not involved at all. You should tell us exactly waht you are doiing, and waht error messages, if any, you see, as well as waht you expect to happen, and waht happens instead.

  • Cannot create pdfs after upgrades: Adobe 9.2 and Mac OS 10.6.2

After upgrading to Adobe Professional 9.2 and Mac 10.6.2, I have lost the ability to create pdfs.
The Adobe Printer (display says the printer is v. 9.0) lists the print job status as "Error" and has the following message; "You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose Software Update from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in Software Update, contact the manufacturer of your printer."
I get errors when I try to create a pdf from a webpage.
I get the following error when I try to create a pdf from a word file: "Acrobat could not open 'AAA.docx' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF."
(I am able create a pdf from jpg files... but I never really have a need to do this...)
I have uninstalled Adobe Professional using the uninstaller (then emptied trash and restarted), then reinstalled Adobe Professional from disk (and restarted).  After the reinstallation, I still get the same problems, although I don't get any error messages until Adobe Professional updates itself from 9.0 to 9.2.  Before the Adobe upgrade, v9.0 attempts to print to pdf just act like the pdf is created (no error messages), but I don't get a save prompt, nor is a new pdf document anywhere to be found.
    Please help!!!

Thanks!  I found the work around!!!

    Thank you for your response...
I am creating a file in Adobe PageMaker and wanting to make it a PDF for others to view who may not have that program.

The content of what I am sending shouldn't matter- just JPG's and text.
Should I uninstall my PDF reader and Cute PDF and re-load them back in?

It's not that you can't format it because you have no backup, it's because you'll lose everything when you do. Lesson learned. Always have a backup.

  • Cannot Create PDF Acrobat 9.4 Standard Windows 7, 64 bit

    Hi,
Currenlty my colleague and I have the same issue; we cannot create PDF documents using Acrobat 9.4 Standard or the office plug in, and there is no PDF printer available after the acrobat installation either.
We are both using Windows 7, 64 bit version. I have checked and confirmed Acrobat 9 on Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2007 should be compatible.
    * When using the 'Create PDF from file' feature from Acrobat we get the following error: "Unable to find "Adobe PDF" resource files. Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?"
I have run the installer in repair mode multiple times, same isssue occurs after this is done.
    * When using the Acrobat plug-in for office, for example in Word (we both use Office Professional 2007) and selecting 'Create PDF' it will prompt for a save location, after select save nothing happens, and there is no PDF file created in the save locaton.
So far I have tried the following without any success:
    - Un-installing and re-installing acrobat, multiple times
    - running the acrobat application in compatability mode for Windows XP
    - attempted to create PDF files from older word versions i.e. .doc and .docx have the same issue
    - attempted to manually install PDF printer using the acrobat installation files - did not work
    * I am aware that Office 2007 will allow me to save a document as PDF, however we still need acrobat for the publishing quality and editing features.
Any help or suggestions regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated :-)
    Kind Regards,
    Wade

I understand what you are suggesting. I have two laptops the same model. AA works on one but not the other.  I do have office 7 and a 64 bit OS.
    Thanks for the help

If you are running a 64-bit version of OFFICE 2007 (if one exists), that may be the issue. AA X did not work with that version until the most recent release as I understand it. Since you have AA 9.4, I am not sure of the compatibility of it with the 64-bit version. It is strange that the printer does not appear. It seems a few others have had similar problems and as I recall, someone made a suggestion to fix that recently -- though it may have been for AA X. You might search on 64-bit or such.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI: Error Adobe Acrobat is not activated. Cannot create PDF File.

After installing Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 7 Ent. w/Office 2010.
From MS Word, select Save as PDF, I recieve "Adobe Acrobat is not activated. Cannot create PDF file."
Any and all troubleshooting has failed.
Uninstall Acrobat, language packs, re-install, install updates, Install on fresh image.

kglad  your link refers to Windows XP. As to the rest it is questionable. First of all it would be nice to know the cause, before fixing the problem. For in some cases eliminating the cause will solve problems later on. So, in my case for ex. The problem did not exist until I protected my Word 2010 document and then saved it to PDF--which it would not allow to do so and giving the error message stated above.

After re installing Mac OS X 10.4.8, I lost my documents and pictures. Can I retrieve them some how?

If you did a Clean Install, the files are gone. If you did an update from Panther, the is a possibility there is an Archive Folder with all of your files in it.. the best way to find out, is looks at your hard drive space, if its small, you lost them.

  • Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT

Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT and other MS office apps. Reinslalled Adobe, updated Office, and Adobe no help! Also I can create a pdf from the MS Word and it is using the Adobe 9. So one would think that's good. No it isn't when you need to combine different files to one big PDF document. Any suggetions? Thank you

Yes, I’m saying that I can in WORD use “Save As ADOBE pdf” but cannot in ADOBE create a pdf file from a WORD (.doc or .docx) document. While I can from other MS Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint.
I understand I can use “work around” and save doc in WORD as pdf then compile all files needed (xml, ppt, pdf) in the ADOBE v9. to one big pdf document. But that is not the point of this post.

  • Hi, After I installed Mac Lion, I have problem with the tamil font while typing in Neo Office. Especially with the letters "e-Ex: தெ" and "ai-Ex:தை". Please help me I know its not bug from Apple It shd be some problem in neo.

Hi, After I installed Mac Lion, I have problem with the tamil font while typing in Neo Office. Especially with the letters "e-Ex: தெ" and "ai-Ex:தை". Please help me I know its not bug from Apple It shd be some problem in neo.

Is your problem due to the keyboard or to NeoOffice Characters? You have to change probably the font. Not all fonts are supporting all Unicode sets. Which font you have in your NeoOffice set to write Tamil? Try with Arial Unicode MS for example.
Are the letter e-Ex and ai-Ex right in your posting? If they are right, how you inserted these letters in your posting? By copy and paste or by typing? If by typing, your question is related to NeoOffice. Probably you should reinstall or update NeoOffice? Or switch to OpenOffice?

  • Cannot open PDF attachments on my Mac; I have to copy PDF address an open it on Safari instead.

I cannot open PDF attachment on my Mac. One might think it is just slow, but the attachment never comes up. I have to copy the PDF address and paste it into Safari or Explorer, which have no trouble opening the very PDF that Firefox would not handle. I am guessing that I have some setting that is barring PDFs; other attachments open fine. My adobe is up to date, I think; if that was the problem Safari, too, would not be able to open the PDF.

There is a plugin that you can use, for details see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Opening+PDF+files+within+Firefox

  • How can I re-install Snow leopard having installed Lion? The disk supplied states that I cannot use the version of 'Install Mac OS X'...HELP!

How can I re-install Snow leopard having installed Lion? The disk supplied states that I cannot use the version of 'Install Mac OS X'...HELP!

None of the instructions usually given for downgrading seems to mention the fact that you will lose some data in built-in applications, including at least Mail. When you installed Lion, your Mail database was converted from the format used by Snow Leopard's Mail to that used by Lion's Mail. There is no way to reverse that conversion. Therefore, you will lose your entire Mail database. If your messages are all stored on a remote server, that may not be an insurmountable problem, but otherwise you'll have to restore from the last backup you made before the upgrade, and then you'll still lose all changes to the database made since that time.
Another fact not often mentioned is that downgrading is usually the worst possible solution to a problem with Lion. But that's the answer to a question you didn't ask.

  • Cannot print PDFs after installing mountain lion

I recently upgraded to mountain lion and have been having a series of problems!
The latest is that after updating my drivers for my printer Brother 7840W, I am able to print word documents. But I just found out that I cannot print PDFs. It says, "looking for printer..."  However, I can cancel that and go and print a word document. So, i'm at a loss as to what the issue is. Any thoughts?

  • Cannot log in after clean install of Server 10.5.5

Excuse my lack of organization in this post, but i am a bit fried right now from trying to figure this out.
After installing OS X Server 10.5.5 via firewire (from mac mini) to the stock ATA HD in an upgraded G4, I cannot log into the system admin account that was created during the initial setup. I know im typing it exactly correct (what i entered in setup). The setup runs flawlessly and will log into the account after setup is complete, but after a reboot (to get the G4 out of Target disc mode), no dice.
I have even created another admin account (non system admin) during the time i had the option in setup and cannot log into that either. Setting it to auto log in isn't working either, yet other changes i make (such as showing restart and shutdown buttons) are effective after reboot
The only explaination that i can come up with is the way i am rebooting the system after setup is complete (rebooting via power button as shutting down from the apple applet will not shut down the machine in TDM) Obviously, this isn't a best practice, but will it screw up the login creds every time? I have reinstalled the OS 3 times and get the same result.
If it is the way im rebooting the box, does anyone have a better suggestion of getting it out of TDM after the install and setup?

Download and run Pacifist on the system install disks that came with the computer to look for iPhoto. If you find it Pacifist can extract and install iPhoto.
Also if iPhoto came with the computer originally then look for the file shown in this screenshot and use it to install iPhoto:

  • How do you create pdfs in CS5?

My ad department currently uses CS4 along with QuarkXpress. I create pdfs in Quark by using Distiller, converting postscript files to pdfs. However in CS4, If you upgrade Acrobat 9 you will lose the Distiller function. Does CS5 Acrobat X Pro for mac have Distiller? I've searched around this website and it looks like it's provided for PC. Will I be able to use it for a mac? If not how do I create a pdf in CS5? Will there be an Acrobat printer driver? I liked how in Distiller you can set up different printer settings such as how good the resolution would be for a pdf. I'd like to get an answer before purchasing this product and installing it.

There are beoming more and more reasons to stop using a distilled postscript workflow and Apple inadvertantly negated the abilty with Snow Leopard. (You know that the print industry is evolving. Your clients are going to expect pdf files with live links, bookmarks, interactive elements; all features lost in distilling.)  The "we've done it this way for years" attitude needs to be rethought. If you're print vendor dictates distilling postscript files, they haven't updated either their equipment or their webpage for a decade or both!
On a PC, you will not lose the ability to create and distill postscript files with any update, and to my knowledge, AA 9 (no  longer available) does not hinder the ability on Mac, but rather an update to OSX 10.6 does.
Your mention of CS4; is that in reference to the Adobe Creative Suite, or a stand alone product - Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop. All Adobe products create pdf native from the application. If your daily version of Quark does not offer the same ability, you need to keep current and update or stray in the past.
