Cannot do a full text search on pdf or Microsoft office Documents.

I am using Oracle Content Server 10gR3
Apart from the standard components and other components, I have InBound refinery Support and Oracle text Search Components enabled.
I get the following error when I check in a pdf or a Microsoft office document.
Text Conversion of the file '<repo_home>/.pdf' failed.*
Content has been indexed with Info only. Resubmit should only be performed if the problem has been resolved.
I am able to perform a full text search on *.txt and *.htm files.

I have installed the Adobe iFilter 11 64 bit and set the path to the bin folder. I still cannot find any text from the pdf files. I suspect I am missing something trivial because I don't find much when I Bing for this so it must not be a common problem.

    Hello,
We believe we have figured this out.  It looks like it has to do with the length of the default folder location for the Adobe iFilter.
I was able to reproduce the issue and the following resolved it for me.  See if this resolves it for you all as well.
Here is how to get Adobe Version 11 PDF filter to work.
1 . If you haven’t already, run the following in SQL Server:
    Sp_fulltext_service ‘Load_os_resources’, 1
    Go
--you might also need to run:  sp_fulltext_service ‘Verify_signature’,0  --This is used to validate trusted iFilters. 0 disables it. So use with caution.
    --go
    2. Stop SQL Server.  (Make sure FDHost.exe stops)
    3.
Uninstall the Adobe ifilter (because it defaulted to having spaces or the folder name is too long).
    4.
Reinstall the Adobe iFilter and when it prompts for where to install it, change it to: C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter
    5.  Once the installation finishes, go the computer’s Environment variables. Add the following to the PATH.
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter\BIN
NOTE: it must include the BIN folder
NOTE: If you had the OLD location that included spaces, remove it from the path environment variable.
    6. Start SQL Server
    7.  IF you had an existing Full-text index on PDFs, drop the full-text index and recreate it.
    8. You should now get results when you run sys.dm_fts_index_keywords('db','tblname')  --Note: Change db to be the actual database name and tblname to be the actual table name.
Give this a try and see if this fixes yours.
    Sincerely,
    Rob Beene, MSFT

  • Full Text Search in PDF file Not Working in SQL Server 2012

OS: Windows Server 2012 @ Azure
DB: SQL Server 2012 SP 1 with Cum Update 6
Filter: OfficeFilter installed, PDFFilter64 11 installed (actually I tried 9 too)
I have done the following steps:-
    1. Configure SQL Server Instance to enable FILESTREAM for Transaction-SQL Access (IO Access and Allow Remote Client Access to FileStream data) and restart the instance service.
    2. Set Stream Access Level to Full Access and
    3. Create Database with file stream folder and set the created database Properties.Options: FileStreamDirectorName = fileContainer and FileStream Non-Transaction Access = Full.
    4. Create a FileTable with file director
    5. Execute the following scripts to ensure all installed components working. PDF is listed as one of the supported filter.
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service @action='load_os_resources', @value=1;
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0 -- don't verify signatures
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'update_languages'; -- update language list
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'restart_all_fdhosts';
    EXEC sp_help_fulltext_system_components 'filter'
    reconfigure with override
    6. Copy a few PPTX, DOCX, PDF file into the file director.
    7. Search the data by following command. I can PPTX and DOCX files can return right result but PDF is not returned although it contains the searching contents.
    SELECT *
    FROM dbo.Course
    WHERE CONTAINS(file_stream, 'Counsellor');

Are you seeing any errors in the SQL Server Error Log, the Windows Application or System logs?  How about in the Full-text crawl logging?
Troubleshooting Errors in a Full-Text Population (Crawl)
If your server has a mix of multi-threaded iFilters and single-threaded iFilters, this can cause serious problems with building the full text index.  (How do I know this?  Well, let's just say that I have suffered as well. And I was shocked!)
The efficiency was greatly increased by this article:
Troubleshooting: Slow Full-Text Indexing Performance Due to Filtering Process
This means changing the threading model for the multi-threaded (e.g. Microsoft Office) filters to be Apartment Threaded.  Or perhaps if you are full text indexing PDF files, abandoning the free single-threaded Adobe IFilter and purchasing the FoxIt
(or some other) multi-threaded PDF iFilter would benefit you.

  • How does full-text search for pdf files work?

    Hi there,
Basically I can see my pdf file in the content server.. inside the pdf there's a piece of test that says: "Test's Sample" but when I do a search with that string the file gets filtered from the results.
I think it has to do with the ' (single quote) being there because other text in the pdf works fine.. so I was wondering how does VDK store this full text? where? I'd like to see how it gets translated IF that's how it works with pdf files....
Following advice from Re: Parse error with search query I tried doing the search by:
    Test\'s Sample
    Test`s Sample
    "Test's Sample"
The database is db2 if that helps.. how can I fix this problem?

Nevermind, I fixed it by changing the VDK filters (in case someone is looking for a solution too).
    Cheers,

  • Full-Text search is not working with PDF files - SQL Server 2012 64 bit

    Hi,
We are in the process of storing PDF files in SQL Server 2012 with Full-Text search capability.
I followed the steps as below and it works fine with word document but not for PDF files. I tried with PDF ifiler 11 & 9 and both are unsuccessful.
    Server/DB Level Settings:
    1)
    Enable FileStream
    2)
    Install Full-Text
    then restart
    3)
    Use [specific db]
    alter
    database [db name]
    add
    filegroup Files
    contains filestream;
    alter
    database [db name]
    add
    file (
    name = N'Files',
    filename =
    N'D:\SQL\DATA') to
    filegroup [Files];
    3)
    Database level
    Settings:
    FileStream:
    FileStream
    Directory name:
    [Set the name]
    FileStream
    non-transacted
    Access: [set Appropriate]
    3a)
    Add a
    datafile to DB
    with filestreamdata
    filetype.
    4)
    Share D:\SQL\DATA
    directory and
    add specific accounts
    with read/write
    access
    5)
    Give bulkadmin
    access to those
    specific accounts
    at server
    level
    6)
    From the

    download and
    install the *.pdf
    IFilter for
    FTS. Link:

    the plugin.
    Default for
    this version is:

    Hello,
Did you check the fulltext log files for more details about the errors. If the filter isn’t working, there should be errors in the error log file.

  • Document Management / Full Text Search in Projects & SolMan Directory

    Hello experts!
I want to implement Full Text Search in my SolMan and therefore need your help.
I have installed Trex 7.10 and am already able to search within my Solution Database (Problems/Solutions).
Now I want to be able to search within all documents in my SolMan Installation - e.g. Roadmaps, SAP Scenario Descriptions or my own uploaded documents.
In the IMG I already found the section Document Management but I cannot get the needed RFCs (IMSDEFAULT and IMSDEFAULT_REG) working.
There is already a RFC called IMSDEFAULT, which was created during the installation of Trex and runs the
    Registered Server-Program: Trex_SOT_20080327090311
I tried to configure my RFCs according to the IMG but, as I said, cannot manage to get them working.
I hope anybody has an idea or an guide on how to implement Full Text Search!
Please be so kind and provide help - thanks in advance!
    Best regards
    Gerold

    Gerold,
I am running into the same issues because we want to do full text search on project documentation within Solution Manager. The default RFC connections IMSDEFAULT_REG and IMSDEFAULT do not work with the standard settings.
We created one index for IWBSOLAR so maybe I also need to check IWBPROJ in SKPR06 for project documentation and create a new index for this one ?
The indexing for IWBSOLAR now fails although there seem to be over 6000 documents marked but none are put in the index. After indexing there is a list of the documents all with code 6401 but cannot find any where what this code means. It seems to be succesful as all entries are green.
Any help/suggestions on this topice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Full text search in local CD-ROM app

    Hi all,
I want to develop a local application deploying in CD-ROM,
and I want to use about 1.000 PDF documents.
I thing that it's a good idea to convert the PDFs to SWFs
    using the FlashPaper.
My answer is how can I make a full text search using the
contents of these files. Is it possible?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
We can create a custom tool for you that will enable you to
    search text in
ALL your pdf files. That's not a problem.

  • Full-text search not available after upgrade from SQL 2008 R2 Std to SQL 2012 Std

We upgraded our production SQL Server from 2008 R2 Std to 2012 Std last week, and the installation logs show everything was successful, but now we are unable to do any searches against our full-text indexes.  The resulting error is as follows:
"Full-Text Search is not installed, or a full-text component cannot be loaded."
When executing the query "SELECT FULLTEXTSERVICEPROPERTY('ISFULLTEXTINSTALLED')", the result is "0".  The "Full-Text Daemon Launcher service is also running.  When running installation again to add the feature, it shows
"Full-Text and Semantic Extractions for Search" as being installed and unavailable for selection in the list of features to add.  As a side note, we did the same upgrade in our identical QA environment before production and everything was successful
and full-text searches are working correctly.  We have run the "Repair" routine in the SQL Installation Center and it did not correct the problem.
The full-text catalogs still appear when browsing through the GUI in SSMS or querying sys.fulltext_indexes and sys.fulltext_index_columns.  It is not possible to view the properties of the catalog in SSMS, though, as the GUI throws an error and an empty
dialog box is shown.  Any other thoughts?
    Thanks,
    AJ

I have no idea what is going, but assuming that it is a little pressing to get this fix, I think the best path in this case is to open a case with Microsoft.

  • Information on full text search in Oralce Database

    Hi,
We are looking to implement full text search using Oracle database. Where can I find info on this topic? Specifically, I'm looking for
    1) an overview of how to implement them in Oracle database - column type, size/limitations etc.
    2) does oracle database come with filters to extract and filter data from different file formats such as Ms office, PDF (images) etc.
    Appreciate your reply

Look into the Oracle Text documentation. It has the answers to your questions.

  • Full text search in Filenet via SAP DMS

    Hello experts,
Hopefully you can help me with the following. My customer has SAP DMS and uses FileNet (v4.0) as content repository. They use Verity as tool for full text search (SAP and non-SAP). Verity has it's own user interface / search screen. Question is if it is possible for SAP (easy)DMS users to do full text search (via CV04N or EasyDMS searchscreen) and search in the FileNet repository (directly with TREX or via Verity). The customer has the ACSAP connector up and running.
I've implemented TREX with SAP content server and index server before, but I'm not familiar with FileNet possibilities in that area, so hopefully someone has experience with this?
    thanks in advance, Erwin

    Dear  NAG
For text search you have activate TREX Server
    follow the steps
    Set TREX
    A:- Transaction: SRMO
Install TREX , and create RFC destination to connect to
    TREX.
    B:- Transaction: SKPR06
Check the flag to Document Area "DMS" to utilize this document area for
    document search.
    For Indexing
    A: Transaction: SE38
Run the report program "RSTIRIDX_REINDEX" to create Index.
Also, run the report program "RSTIRIDX" to create Index.
Set mime type for the text search
    A: SPRO --
Cross-Application Components > Document Management System > General
Data > Settings for Storage Systems > Create MIME types for full
    text search,
    Enter MIME type like
    "application/msword",
    "application/pdf".
    Retrive document via Test Search
A: Then, test retrieval document search using
    Transaction: SKPR07.
Enter Document Class "DMS_PCD1", Language "EN", Document Class "DMS",
    and try "TEST search".

  • Full text search across books in iBooks for Mavericks

Is there a way to do full text search of all documents under iBooks for Mavericks?
I have quite a few books in categories and collections that are not mutually exclusive. It is becoming quite tedious to find the book I need when I need it. I have tried search in iBooks but it only seems to hit titles, maybe some keywords, and perhaps other fields, but not the full text of the documents.
I cannot find any way in Spotlight preferences or in iBook preferences to specify that the body of documents under iBooks should be indexed/searched.
    Best regards,
    Tom

Just to register that I have fixed the problem.
I tried reinstalling RH, but that didn't work. I was about to
give up when I noticed that an error was coming up when I compiled
the project: the infamous "HHC6003: The file itircl.dll has not
been registered correctly". I found out that you only fix that
problem by registering another dll: itcc.dll
Once you fix this, the compilation is perfect and the
    full-text Search works properly again.
    Thanks anyway for the interest.
    Paulo.

  • Disable Full Text Search in Records Management

    Hi Everyone,
This is Shiva, we implemented SAP Records management & i am came in middle of this project. Right now client want to do some customizations in Records.
Actually i need to disable Full Text Search under Records. Under Cross Query i disabled the Full text by the following process
(Two sample element types are delivered with the service provider
    SRM_SP_QUERY:
    SRM_SPS_QUERY
Search for records, documents, cases, record models and file plans
    SRM_SPS_QUERY_REC_DOC)
Under(SPRO) Cross SP search based on Property Unification; you can able to disable the FullText search field(this will be effects only for Cross Query), but under Records, when you right click there will be one option called FIND in which i am unable to disable the FULL TEXT search.
I used DMWB T-code under LOIO, i  search for Standard/free/instance attributes, but i didn't find any Full Text Search Field in that one.
Can anyone please help me in this. I really appreciate your inputs & help.
    Thanks,
    Shiva.

    Dear Shiva,
Full text search needs to be deactivated at content model level for attributes. You will find a document class in the element type of the record. In transaction DMWB, you will find LOIO & PHIO classes for the document class. For each attribute, you will find a checkbox "index-relevant" which needs to be unticked if you dont want to use TREX. For deactivating full-text search for which a field is given in the FIND popup, TREX needs to be deactivated. There is no option to deactivate just for a record element type in RM. Unfortunately, the field itself cannot be hidden. This is programmed in the logic.

  • Full text search in CMSK 9.0.3  WebStarterApp

I deployed WebStarterApp on CMSDK 9.0.3 and I cannot perform full text search on the CMSDK document.
Is there anybody who encounters the same problem ?
    Thanks

I don't know how it was implemented in 9.0.2 or earlier. Sheduling the ctx_ddl.sync every minute will suffice for most projects. If you really want 'near real time' index synchronization, I guess you could implement the synchronization in S_TieContentObject (the java way) or perhaps create a trigger on odmz_contextrouter (the plsql-way). Keep in mind, however, that Oracle Text synchronization will allways be asynchronuous (and isn't part of the transaction), so you can't rely on Text to find content immediately after you've inserted it.
