Cannot download Java SE6 plug in

I have an iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Apple have removed Java (thank you; very useful and no warning) and I have tried downloading  the original version from the Apple support site.  Get message "Installation successful" but, since I cannot see it and still get "Blocked Plug in" message this is not correct.
Can anyone advise, please?

Apple barred Java from running on Macs in order to safeguard users by blocking Java 7 Update 11 and adding it to the banned list in XProtect.
This was the second time in two weeks that Apple had blocked Oracle's code from running on Macs. The threat was so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had recommended that all Java 7 users disable or uninstall the software until a patch was issued. This time Java is blocked through Apple's XProtect anti-malware feature.
Java has come under fire as the means by which hackers have been able to gain control of computers. In April 2012 more than 600,000 Macs were reported to have been infected with a Flashback Trojan horse that was being installed on people's computers with the help of Java exploits. Then in August Macs were again at risk due to a flaw in Java, this time around, there was good news for Mac users: Thanks to changes Apple has made, most of us were safe from the threat.
Unwilling to leave its customers open to potential threats Apple decided it's safer to block Java entirely.
In order to block older versions of Flash, Apple has updated its "Xprotect.plist" file so that any versions that come before the current one (version 11.6.602.171) cannot be used on a Mac. Users who have older versions of Flash installed will be greeted with an alert that says "Blocked plug-in," and Safari will prompt the user to update to a newer version.
Macs running OS X Snow Leopard and beyond are affected.
UPDATE for those running Lion or Mountain Lion:
Oracle on Friday February 1 released a new version reportedly addressing vulnerabilities seen with the last build.
Apple disabled Java 7 through the OS X XProtect anti-malware system, requiring users to have at least version "1.7.0_10-b19" installed on their Macs. The release dated February 1 carries the designation "1.7.0_13-b20," meeting Apple's requirements.
Oracle "strongly recommends" applying the CPU fixes as soon as possible, saying that the latest Critical Patch Update contains 50 new security fixes across all Jave SE products.
Update for Snow Leopard users:
Apple issued update 12 for Java for OS 10.6:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
Note:  On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
If, after installing Java for OS X 2013-002 and the latest version of Java 7 from Oracle, you want to disable Java 7 and re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start functionality, follow these steps:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=en_US
Further update:
Apple issued this Java related security update No. 13 on February 19:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5666
and Update No. 14 on March 4:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5677
And the latest update from April 16, 2013:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
and for Snow Leopard from June 18, 2013:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573

The standard recommendation is for users to turn off Java except when they have to use it on known and trusted websites (like their bank). Javascript, which is unrelated despite the name, can be left on.

  • Cannot download Java 7 update 9 32-bit

I am trying to download the most up to date version of Java (Java 7 update 9 32-bit) on a desktop computer running Windows 7 Pro (SP1). I have attempted to use both the online and offline methods of running the update procedure with no success.
I have attempted to delete all previous installations, and there are no listings for previous versions of Java in the “Programs and Features” control panel, and there is no separate control panel to install new versions of Java with.
Despite all of these attempts I continue to get the following message after the installer has been loaded:
“The wizard was interrupted before Java 7 update 9 could be completely installed. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.”
    Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

Its Windows 7, not Windows 95So what does this have to do with anything? Although what you are implying is valid, there are still some cases where reboot is necessary. This is especially true for example if the Win MSI installer is not used properly and/or if a file is unreleasably locked during the installation.
The fact that files may be locked during an installation is still possible (although should be rare). The problem is less about rebooting and more about people understanding what they are doing. Some users (people running the installers) don't close all processes which might have file locks on the software they are trying to uninstall (or update). If they would just ensure that all processes which might use the JRE (e.g. browsers) were closed (double check in the task manager) before running the installer, the installer won't complain and reboot would not be necessary.

  • Cannot download flash; additional plug-ins needed

    Operating system: Windows 7 (64-bit)
Web browser: latest version of Firefox as of 8/17/2010
Do no have any flash version; my computer is quite new and I haven't gotten around to installing it until now.
When I attempt to install flash, I get a message that says "Additional plug-ins are required to view all media on this page" instead of the usual Firefox alert that says it prevented a download, with button to allow it. When I click "Install missing plug-ins" nothing happens. At all.
What do I need to do to install flash?

Do you mean Flash, or Flash Player - please clarify.

    1. You probably do not have enough space on iPad.
    2. Download movies to iTunes (computer) if you do not have enough space.

I can't download java plug in 1.6.0_10. If this is not supported is there another java plug in similar?

You cannot download or install any plug ins in Safari on the iPad. You can only turn on JavaScript in the Safari settings - which is different than you want to do.

  • Since I downloaded Apple's latest operating system, whenever I try to open Illustrator I get a message that I need to install legacy Java SE6 runtime and to click "more info" to do this. When I click "more info" I get a blank window. What should I do

Since I downloaded Apple's latest operating system, whenever I try to open Illustrator I get a message that I need to install legacy Java SE6 runtime and to click "more info" to do this. When I click "more info" I get a blank window. What should I do

    Hi,
I had the same problem after upgrading to Yosemite. Illustrator CS6 wouldn't open. I got a message saying I should 'install legacy Java SE6 runtime'.
The link didn't work - it lead to a blank page.
So I downloaded Java8 (latest version) from Oracle but didn't install it. Something told me this was not the right way to go (the problem was with Java SE6, not 8). I then called Apple (in the Netherlands, were I live) for help. I got none. The best they could do was blaming Adobe for the problem or me, for not having the latest Adobe CC app. Rubbish.
And then, magic. I tried to open Illustrator again, got the pop up message but this time the link worked. It took me to an official Apple page, with a link to download Java for OS X 2014-001. The problem is now solved.
If curious, this is the explanation Apple gives for the problem:
'Java for OS X 2014-001 includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X. This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005. On systems that have not already installed Java for OS X 2012-006 or later, this update disables the Java SE 6 applet plug-in. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled 'missing plug-in' to download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.'
