Cannot find directory inode 0

Friend,
In Solaris 10 we took dump of a vxfs file system at run level 3 using vxdump to LTO4 tape but while restoring it back using vxrestore command we are getting an error as "cannot find directory inode 0 abort[yn]"

Srikantada,
Found some instances of similar problems. Hope you"ll find these useful.

A file not listed in the directory appeared. This can occur when using a dump tape created on an active file system. Dumps should be performed with the file system unmounted or with the system in single-user mode (see the init(1M) manual page) to ensure a consistent dump. The dump can also be performed in the multi-user environment using a snapshot file system with the online backup facility (see the snapof= filesystem option of the VxFS mount command{quote}
Another conversation suggests that the /etc/vfstab file might be messed up.
(From http://www.sunmanagers.org/pipermail/summaries/2004-June/005246.html)
{quote}Check your /etc/vfstab file very carefully: I suspect you may find that
the line for / looks something like
/dev/dsk/c0t8d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 / ufs #[...]
instead of
/dev/dsk/c0t8d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c0t8d0s0 / ufs #[...]
When certain filesystem tools are given a block device (/dev/dsk/*),
they consult /etc/vfstab to find out the name of the corresponding raw
device (/dev/rdsk/*).
If this is in fact your problem, then note that ufsdump uses a similar
algorithm: any backups you've made could be of the wrong device.{quote}
Good luck :)

    As the user in question, when I browse \\san.f.q.d.n\share$\username, the BACKUP directory exists, but there are no sub directories.
    I manually created the sub directories, USERNAME\USMT - so the full path now exists: \\san.f.q.d.n\share$\username\BACKUP\USERNAME\USMT
    I re-ran USMT but the process returned the same error.
    If I specify other shares not on san.f.q.d.n but on san1.f.q.d.n or server.f.q.d.n or even workstation.f.q.d.n, it works fine.
    Can someone provide guidance on how to troubleshoot this further?

  • Cannot find class in same directory during compilation

    hi
    i have two file hello.java & hi.java in same directory having simple println statements.
    hello.java
    public class hello {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("hello");
        new hi();
    }hi.java
    class hi {
      hi() {
        System.out.println("hi");
    }hi.java has compiled
    but when i try to compile hello.java i get error saying "Cannot find symbol class hi"
    i've tried giving classpath pointing to current directory during compilation as
    javac -classpath . hello.java
    but this also does not work.
    Please let me know if i am missing anything?
    thanks in advance...

    The javac compiler uses the Classpath to find classes. If your directory structure is c:\myjava\buron\doeacc (for example) then you need to have c:\myjava in the Classpath when you compile. For example javac -classpath c:\myjava MainFrame.java

  • ITunes cannot find music files, confuses inodes, external drive

    I have all my music on an external drive, which is not always connected to the Mac. When I start iTunes w/o the hdd connected iTunes occasionally marks some of the songs as not found. Which is ok so far. BUT if it finds the same inode (of the original file on the external hdd) on the internal hdd it changes the location of the songs to the internal hdd. In my case to files like /Previous System/<some path>/Info.plist. So iTunes thinks the files are still there and cannot play them. After deleting all the Previous Systems files iTunes marks all those files as not found, that is, it does not search for the inode on the external hdd again. Very confusing.
    Yesterday I started from scratch with an empty iTunes Library (I moved the original one) and the problem reoccurred instantly after I imported all my music, quit iTunes, disconnected the external HDD and started iTunes again. So some of my songs are lost, iTunes will never find them again w/o me reimporting them. Also the problem might occur anytime in the future and I seem to not be able to cure it, because iTunes tried to be intelligent. But how it can confuse inodes w/o looking at the device ID and why the songs did not return after I removed the /Previous Systems folder I cannot image.
    I checked the inodes on the internal and external hdd for some of the songs and they were indeed identical. So iTunes seems reset the path/location in the Library DB if it can find the inode of a song which it cannot find by path. Why it does not look at the device id in combination with the inode# is a mystery.
    Some additional details:
    iTunes Music Folder Location: on external hdd
    The Library files are on the internal hdd at ~/Music/iTunes.
    I hope someone can answer that. I do not want to start from scratch every week. I hope my iPod which holds all the songs synchs meta info like play count and rating back as well.
    Kind regards, soryu2.

    And further....
    I went into iTunes to try to download all my purchased music.  Some, but not all, is showing up under iTunes>iTunes Media>Music.  It looks like the library thinks some if the music is there, but it actually is not.
    Seems like my library is corrupted (or something).
    Since I have to upload all music from CD anyway, should I delete my iTunes library and start over, first by downloading all purchased music.

  • Grub-install: "cannot find EFI directory" (CSM mode)

    Hi,
    I'm trying to install grub on the mbr with 'grub-install /dev/sdb', but I get "cannot find EFI directory'. I have an Asus laptop with secure boot disabled and CSM enabled (I *need* CSM because otherwise - I don't know the reason - I can't boot from USB/disk). I have Windows 7 installed (/dev/sdb2) and I know there's a small partition (/dev/sdb1) which was created during Windows 7 installation which contains a 'Boot' directory, a 'bootmgr' file and other stuff. Now, my purpose is to dual boot Windows 7 and Arch while the BIOS is in CSM mode. The problem is that a simple grub-install /dev/sdX does not work as expected (under Gentoo, it simply worked out-of-the-box). By now, I can chroot into my fresh Arch installation (/dev/sdb3). Another thing: possible targets for grub-install are 'i686-pc' and 'x86_64-efi'; when running grub-install the program automatically selects 'x86_64.efi' as target. I don't know if it's correct (I do have an AMD64 laptop, just to clarify). Thanks in advance.

    You are telling the system to act like it is a BIOS system as far as the boot process goes but I don't think you are using a disk with a MBR, master boot record partition table. Is your disk actually GPT? This is a common gotcha when trying to use CSM mode on a UEFI based system since UEFI systems come with GPT disks. I believe this describes Grub installation in your configuration.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GR … structions
    To be clear though, I don't think this is a good direction to go. This isn't keeping things simple though that may have been why you chose to do it. I don't have enough information to know but it sounds like your disk expected to be in a UEFI system and was created with a GPT partition scheme. I would use it that way for Arch and for Windows if you choose to have that installed. I think it creates unneeded complexity to create a hybrid UEFI/BIOS configuration. I would always have all disks using the same partition scheme (the reason you can't boot "USB/disk" may be that you need GPT) and all OS's booting UEFI on a UEFI system.

    The service file is in $srcdir, not $_svnmod/builders/cmake.
    You're using an outdated PKGBUILD template too. The svn source should be included in the source array and not checked out manually during the build process.
    EDIT: since this repository requires authentication, perhaps the correct format won't work.

  • When I download a page a message says cannot find zip file directory

    When I try to download a page a message appears after the download time saying in part that "cannot find zip file directory". This message appears on all downloads I attemp.

    Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
    If you have upgraded from version 8 (or earlier) to iTunes 9 (or later) at some point, then your media folder (everything inside the red outline) may still be called iTunes Music instead of iTunes Media. The extra Music folder inside the media folder is used if you have allowed iTunes to Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization (iTunes 9) or used File > Library > Organize Library > Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" (iTunes 10). Depending on your choices for Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library plus a little bug in which one build changed the name of the file storing the choice of layout it is quite easy for some of your files to be organized according to one layout and some the other.
    It is possible that in the upgrade to Lion iTunes has been installed with the current default options while your library is based on an older structure. Use Get Info. on a missing track, click cancel when asked to locate it and look at the path given on the summary tab. Now look for the actual file with Finder. Post both paths back here and we can try to make sense of the problem.

    I cannot find my photos that I sync'ed from my iPhone4S to my PC.  More recent photos no longer appear in the Sync directory. What can I do to properly sync them?

    Not sure what you mean by "sync" -- Apple uses the term "sync" for transferring photos from the computer to the phone and uses the term "import" for transferring them the direction you asked about.
    For importing to the computer the following has directions (which for Windows 7 links to the Microsoft support site since the transfer is handled by Windows 7 the same as it would import from any camera:) Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC

    Hello gordon175
    You would need to locate the song on your computer to link them back up so it will play. If you cannot find it and it was purchased from the iTunes Store, you can delete the track and download it again for free.
