Cannot make rman backup - ORA-19501

Hello,
database and grid infrastuture 11.2.0.1 in Solaris X86
I am trying to make an rman backup of 2 databases located in ASM but when I try it I have the following error:
RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ORA_DISK_1 channel at 09/08/2011 15:38:04
ORA-19501: read error on file "+DG/prd.dbf", block number 28544 (block size=8192)
ORA-15081: failed to submit an I/O operation to a disk
ORA-15081: failed to submit an I/O operation to a disk
The alertlog of the database, when I run the rman has the following errors:
ORA-27063: number of bytes read/written is incorrect
WARNING: IO Failed. group:2 disk(number.incarnation):0.0xf0f2117f disk_path:/dev/rdsk/c5t60060480000290104585533031374538d0s6

ORA-15080: synchronous I/O operation to a disk failed
WARNING: failed to write mirror side 1 of virtual extent 139 logical extent 0 of file 273 in group 2 on disk 0 allocation unit 7063
My suspicious was problems with ASM but I have no errors in ASM. All disks are OK and the databases are working fine.
I runned dbverify against the database datafiles and no problems at all.
The problems seems like the Bug 9068033: RMAN BACKUP FAILED INTERMITTENT ORA-19501 ORA-2706, or bug 8510426 but I can't see any solution in metalink and this bug probably aplies to 10g and not 11g.
Can you please help me out?
Thank you.

The errors look like problems in the I/O system, I don't think there's block corruption from Oracle's point of view. Nevertheless you may check which object owns block 28544 in datafile +DG/prd.dbf.
select file_id from dba_data_files
where file_name = '+DG/prd.dbf';
SELECT SEGMENT_NAME, SEGMENT_TYPE
FROM DBA_EXTENTS
WHERE FILE_ID = <file_id from above>
AND 28544 BETWEEN block_id AND block_id + blocks;
It may be the block belongs to nothing, but there's still a physical defect. I remember a problem where RMAN complained about a bad block, but no issues in the database business. The reason no object owned this block, so the database did never access it.

  • ORA-19806: cannot make duplex backups in recovery area

    Hi all,
    I multiplex my archived log files in 2 places and I ran a backup job via the Enterprise Manager, below is the code generated:
    $rman_script="backup incremental level 0 cumulative device type disk tag 'Weekly_Full_Backup' database;
    backup device type disk tag 'Weekly_Full_Archives' archivelog all not backed up delete all input;
    allocate channel for maintenance type disk;
    delete noprompt obsolete device type disk;
    release channel;
    &br_save_agent_env();
    &br_prebackup($l_db_connect_string, $l_is_cold_backup, $l_use_rcvcat, $l_db_10_or_higher, $l_backup_strategy, "TRUE");
    my $result = &br_backup();
    exit($result);
    I actually have the backup but at the same time have this error:
    ORA-19806: cannot make duplex backups in recovery area
    And it was supposed to delete all the Archived logs but they were not deleted.
    Can someone help please?
    Thanks in good anticipation.

    It is not possible to duplex backup sets to the flash recovery area.

  • Time machine cannot make a backup

    I use Mountain Lion 10.8.4. Recently my Time Machine started to behave wierdly: when backup is going, expected backup size is always by few GB larger than completed part. So that at one point of time it's 70 of 74 GB's done, after that it's 71 of 75 and so on until backup volume runs out of space.
    Reported backup size for my system (inside time machine configuration, with some directories excluded), is about 75 GB's. When the backup is failing, it gets as high as 200+ GBs.
    For me it looks like some kind of hard link directory loop what "generates" data over and over.
    I've already tried emptying the TM volume. Also the Disk Utility doesn't find any problem with volume (which is backupped) data.
    What's the best course of action in this kind of problem solving?

    Dear Pierre F.;
    Actually, I just added in my backup plan to have daily backup through RMAN, instead of COLD backup.
    I have planned to take cold backup once a week. here is the side of data:
    *** datafile 410
    *** size of database : 86 GM
    *** relog files size : 250MB
    *** daily archive logs are : 250MB * 4(number of files) = 1GM aprox.
    yes, time constraint is there; just because of the size of database. and we r going for 24/7
    Is this script going to run only one per week ?
    Ans: no I this was level 0 backup; i will take level 1 incremental backup with same script daily too.
    Do you have any other RMAN script ?
    ANS: no, I will modify same script for incremental.
    after local copy of backup all backup files (RMAN) will be copy over network to backup server or we can install LTO tape device to copy directly from database server.
    kindly advise me I am new in RMAN.
    regards;

  • Oracle EBS R12 - 11.2.0.2 - Logical Standby Database & RMAN backups

    Hi all,
    I have Oracle EBusiness Suite R12 running on 11.2.0.2. Our organization used to have most of the business in North America, South America and Europe; but now we are also in Australia, China and Indonesia. Previously running large reporting batch jobs and RMAN backups at night time in USA was feasible but now that is beginning to show up as performance issue for some countries.
    I was thinking would it make sense to have a Active Data Guard logical standby database on a separate server in the same US based data center where we have our main servers and use that logical standy database for reporting and RMAN backups. I am especially concerned about RMAN backups. Would I be able to make RMAN backups from the logical standy database and somehow use those to recover our primary database if some issue happens?
    Any thoughts/suggestions?
    Thanks all,

    Active Data Guard only deals with physical standbys. If you are using a logical standby you can always open the database without using Active Data Guard option.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25608/rman.htm#sthref846 says that:
    >
    Backups of logical standby databases are not usable at the primary database.

  • Cannot make Recovery DVDs for the G580 with Windows 8

    I notice that Windows 8 Notebooks are no longer being sold with Licenses affixed to the underside.  So if anything goes wrong (e.g. we have to replace the HDD at a later date)  we cannot just use a Windows 8 disk to restore the operating system.
    This means it is important to make sure we have recovery DVDs.
    With previous versions One Key Recovery had an option to make restore DVDs - it misses that option with Windows 8.
    Phoned Lenovo support who said that we should make the DVDs through the Windows Backup system, which again is fine but on both Lenovo's I have tried it on Windows 8 cannot make a backup to DVD.  Also even if we could make the windows backup or system repair disks they would not allow a complete factory restore to a brand new HDD.
    How do we make Recovery DVDs that would be bootable and would restore the Operating System to a brand new HDD if the worst should happen and the existing HDD suffered unrecoverable failure?  So far the only option that has come up from my various phonecalls is "buy a set of recovery discs for £25-£35 .... which would be a bit unfair having only had this 2 days.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    thanks for the feedback.
    Could you please check out the following link and see if it contains a possible solution, I am aware it states only Think products in the compatability list but there are "cross-over" points where something could be of relevance to other Lenovo products.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT076024
    thanks in advance

    Use third party tools like data-protector or use Oracle secure backup to make backups other than local server.

    Hi,
    Since the error ORA-19809 indicates the lack of space in flash recovery area during the media recovery, I suggested increasing the value of the parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE.
    Yes, during the media recovery the RMAN will restore the archived log to the default destination (only if the required archived logs are not already on the disks).You can confirm the restore location of the archived log in RMAN restore log/destination specified by parameters log_archive_dest_1/db_recovery_file_dest.

    I checked the df -k and I still have about 6% space in my /dbrecovery disk, a separated space, and I did not find the file indicated either. So was still possible the space is full? or others reason?
    I used the "delete obsolete"command in rman but nothing can be deleted.

    It seems your filesystem cannot handle large files (> 2G). Use 'maxpiecesize' option of 'allocate channel' command to limit the filesize.

  • RMAN backup in RAC failing with error ORA-19566

    Hi all, i have 2 node RAC and i am trying to take rman backup of the database which is in ASM filesystem.
    There is a corruption in SYSAUX file and rman is failing to take backup of the sysaux datafile and error thrown at the end like
    piece handle=/home/oracle/orabackup/BLOOM_LVL0_20120627_1qnejueh_s58_p1 tag=TAG20120627T185538 comment=NONE

    *ORA-19566: exceeded limit of 0 corrupt blocks for file +DATA/bloom/datafile/sysaux.257.775475317*
    Then i tried to validate the backup in rman of the datafile sysaux nad fired the following query
    SQL> SELECT * FROM v$database_block_corruption;
    FILE# BLOCK# BLOCKS CORRUPTION_CHANGE# CORRUPTIO
    3 32011 1 0 ALL ZERO
    3 32049 40 0 ALL ZERO

    3 28964 1 1399837 LOGICAL
    3 32015 2 0 ALL ZERO
    and found all the blocks in the table WRH$_SQL_PLAN.
    Then dropped the table, and tried to take backup of the database and it is failing again with the same error..
    ANY SOLUTION TO TAKE BACKUP OF THE DATABASE.
    anyhow we can SET MAXCORRUPT FOR DATAFILE 3 to value, but does this works all time...
    Thanks in advance,
    TEJAS

    Both are good suggestions, but

  • Rman archivelog backup fails with rman-03002,ora-19563

    Hi,
    D:\ Oracle- -\BIN\RMAN TARGET / NOCATALOG
    RMAN> backup archivelog all;
    RMAN-03002: Error with backup command on 06-25-2013
    ORA-19563: Header-Validation is not successful.
        fails with the given errors.
    11.2.0.2 PROD DB on Windows Server 2008  R2 Enterpriise.
    When I issue BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 DATABASE; it works fine. but with archivelog it is creating problems. Unfortunatly, I have not found exactly the same problem on google and on Oracle support.
    The DB is using INIT.ORA and last time when I switched the mode to archive log mode I set the parameter like SCOPE=MEMORY as SPFILE was not in use and ALTER SYSTEM with SCOPE=BOTH  FRA destination and size, but after the DB restarting of course that setting is gone and I am having these problems.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks a lot.
    Best Regards,

    Hi,
    Thanks a lot.
    I don't think that archivelogs were relocated, except I changed the location yesterday.
    As I wrote at the start that because of INIT.ORA file being in use instead of SPFILE. I set DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST, DB_RECOVERY_DEST_SIZE after changing the DB mode to ARCHIVELOG, but DB was restarted by somebody else, and as the parameter changing was NOT PERMANENT, it rollback.
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST was set to d:\oradata\db with archivelog mode but db_recovery_file_dest and size was set to 0. Now here, I have no idea that whether archivelogs were not being backed up or deleted physically, but I guess that as log_archive_dest parameter is deprecated and mode is set to archivelog with no real ARCHIVELOG DESTINATION. Please correct me if I am wrong or totally wrong :-)
    I performed DELETED EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL, and it deleted 49 EXPIRED objects.
    Now CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL and LIST ARCHIVELOG ALL shows nothing.
    LIST BACKUP OF ARCHIVELOG ALL has of course those 49 archivelog gap.
    Could you please tell the impacts of those 49 missing archivelogs. Retention policy is set to 14 days. I mean the risk is for 14 days right? As anyhow, the older backups are being DELETED according to retention policy of RMAN.

    Thanks,Take backup with "plus archivelog" command. This will require archived redo log files and automatically apply them

  • Resize online redolog files, make RMAN obsolute backups as usable

    Dear Guru's,
    I have following doubts, please clarify me on the same. thanks in advance
    1. why can not we resize online redolog files instead of re-creating the same with large size and remove the older onces.
    2. How can we make RMAN obsolute backups as usable ?
    Thanks.

    Hi Aman,
    Thanks for replay...
    Regarding RMAN, plz look into below issue.
    I configured RMAN backup recovery window of 15 days. after 15 days the backupsets which were older then 15 days are obsolute. now i have to restore the backup of 15 days older(obsolute backupsets) backupsets to the database. but when i do restore it defaulty takes latest backupsets other then obsolute onces.
    how do i restore older(obsolute backupsets) backupsets to the database?
    If i used the CHANGE cmd, how to do that.
    RMAN> change backupset tag weekly_backup_20052013_02:45 _______________
    do i make latest backupsets unavaliable to restore the older once....
    RMAN> change backupset tag weekly_backup_20062013_02:00;
    Thanks in advance...........
    Obsolete backups are always usable, until you delete them with DELETE OBSOLETE.
    If you want to restore from a backup other than the latest, use an until clause:
    run {set until time = 'sysdate - 15';
    restore database;}
