Cannot mount burned DVD

I have a Memorex DVD+R disc with video burned to it from a consumer DVD player/recorder. The disc has been finalized but will not appear on any other DVD player (it plays fine of the machine it was recorded on but takes several minutes to actually load) and I cannot get it to mount under Mac OS. The disc info says that the disc is appendable so I was wondering if there is another session that needs closing. The machine that the disc was burned on says that it has been finalized and will not attempt the process again when prompted. Is there any software I can use (preferably freeware or developer tools) to mount the disc and pull of the VIDEO_TS file(s)?

Maybe your gentoo config was not compiled to use DEVFS file system. Check the config, you will compile it with the mount at boot option:
# Pseudo filesystems
CONFIG_DEVFS_FS=y
CONFIG_DEVFS_MOUNT=y
Furthermore, your dvd may be formated with udf, therefore you should compile this filesystem into the kernel. Also, when using devfs, your dvd should be recognized as /dev/cdroms/cdrom?, check it and change the fstab:
/dev/cdroms/cdrom2 /mnt/dvdrom iso9660,udf ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
Parts may differ on your system, because I use a pure scsi machine, but I suppose it to be the same.

  • I cannot successfully burn DVDs

Hi, I cannot successfully burn DVDs. Every time I try, I end up wasting a disk because though it will read on the computer, there is No Play on the actual DVD player hooked up to the television. If anyone can offer help, tell me what to do and where to go to make this a success...thanks in advance

First which MacBook do you have? The 1.83 ghz does not have a burner. What program are you trying to burn with?

  • I Cannot Mount DL-DVD on MacBook Pro Anymore!

I recently updated to the latest firmware update (macbook pro software update 1.1) a few days ago for my MacBook Pro. Since this, my computer will not mount nearly all of my DL-DVD discs that I previously burnt (on the same computer). I did the SMC reset many times. Still will not recognize the discs.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or at least a reason why this is suddenly happening?

    BUMP!
I can burn and verify on Verbatim-DL disks, but once they are burnt it will not mount them on my macbook pro.
The discs read fine on my Imac 20" (older)
    Im on Leopard 10.5.1

  • Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.

Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.
Self has a MacBook Pro, which al new software.
My problem is, when my burn a slideshow, prop process ever before burning.
Box show: Multiflexing and burning: write Lead-in, then the process stops and ejects the disc.
I have burn a Movie test – no problems.
    Self use Verbatim DVD-R
Who can help - what should I do?

How did you create the slideshow and get it in iDVD?
As a general comment try following this workflow to separate the encoding and burning processes:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Superdrive can read and burn dvds but CANNOT read or burn CDs??

My DVR-107D can read and burn DVD's, but all of a sudden it cannot even read or mount a cd. It also cannot burn CD's. I've run 2 cleaning discs, and even manually cleaned the lens. I feel it may be a software issue at this point... Any ideas?? Finder is set to open CDs and DVDs to the desktop.

    Hi
There are two lenses in the drive. It is possible for one to fail while the other still functions. I manually cleaning the lenses made no difference, it is quite possible that aspect of the drive is dead.
You may want to try from a different admin User account (and with a third party app such as Toast, in addition to Finder, iTunes, iPhoto, Disc Utility)

  • Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz running 10.5.8 cannot burn DVD+R

    Hello all-
I have a Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz running 10.5.8 and I cannot burn DVD+R. Does that make sense?
If I insert a DVD+R into the drive, it just spits it back out. I've tried several discs so it's not a faulty DVD.
    Help.
    Thank you.

I've tried several discs so it's not a faulty DVD
I trust that is several different brands, not several different discs from the same spindle/pack?
    Media varies.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
If you haven't tried a different brand, try a Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
You might also try burning in a new user account to rule out account software troubles.

  • Can't mount home burned dvd-rw

At one point things were fine. I could mount my dvd-rw with .avi files on them. I had burned them myself and could watch them with Quicktime & flip4mac. Now the dvd's won't mount. The Mac says they are blank dvd's. What is up with that? I am trying this on the PowerBook G4.

David Pogue wrote about this, he's had trouble with DVDs being that age (4 years & under) not reading anymore! try a different computer - newer mac or PC, if one is available to you.

  • Cannot create DVD image or burn DVD on G4 Mac mini (error #-34502)

    Hello!
I'ts pretty strange... I've created some DVD projects with iDVD on my Mac mini (G4, 1.25 GHz, all system updates installed, extra internal DVD burner installed), but I'm not able to burn a DVD neither to save an image file with iDVD. I do always get an error message which includes this error id: #-34502.
However, burning DVDs with Toast or the Finder does work.
There is already a techdoc for this error code, but the described "solution" does not help on my projects. All content is within the tv save area, that cannot be the problem that I'm facing right now.
I've also tried to remove the iDVD caches from ~/Libray/Caches and I've removed the preferences from ~/Library/Preferences. None of these "tricks"
    did solve my problem.
iDVD does always render the content and when it starts to multiplex, this mystic error message appears and the process is stopped.
Does anybody else have an idea or a tip that might help?

more than enough apple stuff   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The machine was working fine for more than a year. It was running EyeTV all of the time, cutting videos and archiving movies. No problem there ...
I know you're going to find this "unacceptable":
That doesn't mean anything when it comes to RAM and iDVD. iDVD will find any RAM quality weakness. Weakness that even RAM testing software won't find. I've seen it a lot here.
Apple (OEM), Micron (Crucial.com), and Samsung are highly regarded. I even saw a removed Micron solve an encoding problem. Hey, nothing is prefect.

  • Cannot burn DVD (Domain users)

Am experiencing a problem in my employer's network with regards to burning DVDs from Final Cut Pro X.
When we click Share > DVD and hit go, the program starts "Processing", and once this bar fills up, it disappears without burning. The disc drive does not even spin up. I can tell why this is, becuase the Sharing Center window does not open.
This only affects our domain users - logging on as a domain admin or a local admin on the same mac works fine and sharing centre will open. When logged on as a domain USER, the button to open sharing center isnt even present, its just entirely missing.
We have to use domain user accounts, and right now they cannot burn from FCPX!! Does anyone know a solution for this one? I can only think its some kind of permission issue, but I can't think where to look to try anything.

Why not simply "burning to HD" and then use an external tool (i.e. Toast) to burn the actual DVD? I always write to HD first for a final quality check.

  • Burned DVDs won't mount/read but seen by Disk Utility as containing data

    Hi,
I've got a problem. I have about 200 burned DVDs which were created using my LG VHS/DVD recorder/player. I have used these same DVDs to burn from my external LaCie DVD buner with my PPC G5 running Tiger and my LG Blu-Ray burning with my MacBook running Leopard and those burns plays fine on all 3 devices. However, neither the LaCie DVD burner nor the LG Blu-Ray burner seem able to read/mount the DVDs created with the LG VHS/DVD recorder/player although the G5 and the MacBook, both using Disk Utility, can see that there is data and the size of it on each disk. I am also unable to create a disk image for some reason as it begins but halts saying there's an I/O error. I need to get the content of these disks onto Hard Drives to rip and encode. How do I get the computers to mount these disks which they clearly see are not blank?
    Thank you

    Try opening them with mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you may also need the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
You should be able to convert them to mpeg2 which is the standard format of a video DVD.

    Any answers lol ?

Lot of people have problem installing WXP on new notebook because of missing SATA driver. Without this driver HDD will not be recognized properly and WXP installation cannot start because of missing HDD.
To avoid this SATA settings in BIOS can be changed from AHCI to compatibility. This is OK but HDD will not run on default speed and with full performance. So it is better to install WXP with SATA driver and AHCI settings.
Now when the WXP is installed you cannot change this BIOS settings. it will probably end with blue screen at start up. So if you want to have well working WXP on your notebook you must install WXP again (AHCI mode in BIOS).
In this forum you can find hundreds of threads with good explanation how to do this.
If this will help with DVD I don't know but I don't see any reason why you should not be able to use optical disc drive for burning DVDs.
I have Satellite A300 with WXP Sp3 and NERO. It burns all empty medias.
