Cannot reconnect after upgrading to Yosemite

I’m having trouble reconnecting to my Time Capsule.
Here’s the situation: The Time Capsule remains connected all the time. About 2 months ago, my old one died and I bought a new one, but it has worked fine.
In addition to the backup on the Time Capsule, every month or so, I plug a separate portable hard drive into my computer and let it do an update to my Time Machine, selecting it in “Open Time Machine Preferences.” After it does its update, I disconnect it and tell Preferences to go back to using the regular Time Machine, which it calls Data. Every time, a window pops up asking me for the password for the Data drive, but that is already filled in, so I just click OK and it connects.
Last week, however, I upgraded to OS Yosemite. No problem with regular backups. Then this week I did my secondary backup to the second HD. Then when I went back to Data, the password was not filled it. I put it in and clicked OK. Then, for the first time ever, it asked for a backup password for “Robert_iMac_3.06_GHz_XXXX”, (last for digits changed) which I assume is the name of my computer. I put in the normal administrator password, but it says “Password incorrect. Try again.” I’ve tried about every password I use, including "public," but nothing works. Again, I’ve never before been asked for a password at this stage of reconnecting the Time Machine.
Any suggestions?

I have not seen this one reported.. it is really odd that it worked and then stopped.
I would suggest you reset Time Machine..
A4 here has the info but it is getting out of date.
http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
I would also manually mount the sparsebundle in the computer just to ensure that is possible.
The info is there in A5 and under the FAQ, try Q15-17 which shows some of the manual access info.
No luck.. you are probably going to have to archive off the old backups and start again..
Since Mavericks I have been warning people to start using a different backup software.. in addition if you like to TM. It is becoming too flakey to trust.. especially to recover.. works great when it works.. when it fails it causes more pain than is warranted. Carbon Copy Cloner is what I picked.. works extremely well because you can do bootable clones.. instantly test the validity of the backup by booting off it. IMHO that makes life a lot easier than TM where you cannot know the backup is good until the day of crisis unless you go through a heap of pain to test it.

  • After upgrading to Yosemite, I had to upgrade my iPhoto, now the full res versions of my images cannot be found.

After upgrading to Yosemite, I had to upgrade my iPhoto, now the full res versions of my images cannot be found.  I had created a book to print (before upgrade) but, after the upgrade the book can't be created as I get the message that images can't be found. However, if I search for the filename I can find the image. I tried repairing library as per support instructions but it hasn't helped. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

    Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - apply Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • VMware - I cannot logon to Windows 7 after upgrade to Yosemite

After upgrading to Yosemite, I cannot logon to Windows under VMware Fusion 7.0.  It was working fine prior to the upgrade. The message I get when logging onto Window is,
"The User Profile Service service failed the logon.
The User profile cannot be loaded."
I'm running on a Mac Pro Mid 2010 and Yosemite itself is otherwise working fine.  VMware was not running during the upgrade and re-start of the Mac.  I'm stuck and need to get this resolved any help is appreciated.

I found the solution, I would have found it much earlier but just too tired and stressed from the week I guess
Anyway it is NOT a Yosemite or even VMware issue, it figures it's just a good old Windows issue that dates back to at least 2010, why am I not surprised.   Probably as Windows was booting up and giving me the logon it was running anti-virus in the background and the user profile was corrupted, which means that Windows as usual was also not displaying a precise error message, just one that was close enough for Microsoft work.
The solution is easy especially if you can handle booting to Safe Mode and using Regedit, easier still if you have two user profiles in Windows even if one is just a duplicate of emergency uses, say like this.  The details can be found here, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215
I was up and running within two minutes.  Whew.

BTW. I have seen posts suggesting age of Mac has an affect. Mine is MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
The mail I am having problems send is Exchange and google mail. The google client I re-installed and this had no affect.

I have contacted three more people that made the upgrade and they have the same problem. My advise is not to upgrade until Apple solves the serious issue, I would hate to have to re-install Outlook...

I can send e-mails just fine with apple mail on yosemite...
Might not be a generic problem but rather a personal problem..
You should try find a fix rather than waiting on apple.
Hopefully somebody can help you out.
More than happy to help with your settings/preference pain... And compare mine with yours...
If you send some screenshots... I can send you my equivalent... So maybe you can figure it out.
Is it a gmail or icloud email acount? Can be of more help if it is.

After upgrading to Yosemite, I lose my connect in SOAS, university of London. Overtime, it rejects me as Authentication fails in this network. Even the school technicianer cannot fix. I wonder how to downgrade or any solution?  I never encounter this issue with Mavericks or the one before.

I also have the internet diagnostic report, but it is nonsense to me to read it.

  • I cannot update apps after upgrading to Yosemite. Please Help!

    Hello,
After upgrading to Yosemite, i wanted to go on to iMovie, but i have to update. So i try to update but it refuses and tells me: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
So what i understand is because i bought this mac in the US and I'm using it in the UK its not letting me update it. But what i don't understand is that i was able to upgrade to Yosemite with my mac knowing i was in the UK.
How can i update my applications?
    Thank you for your time,
    TOAOMA

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
    1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept it and the other iLife/iWork applications into your Apple ID, do so.
    2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
    3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
    4. Buy them.

  • After upgrading to yosemite, cannot login as mobile user

After upgrading to Yosemite, I can no longer log on to the Mavericks server as a mobile user. The password prompt is first on the server instead, because only after I do I remove all network connections or disable, I can log in.
The connection to the server is running AFP. If I remove the binding in the user settings, then it goes without problems. Also, the Sync works to profile server. I create the new binding, I can do this only with no name / password, otherwise it returns an error message.
What can be the problem? Must necessarily be 4.0 installed Yosemite or server on the server?
    Thanks for a tip!

  • I am unable to update my album art since I commenced using match (and after upgrading to Yosemite).  How can I 'unembed' old cover art and replace?

I am unable to update my album art on my iMac since I started using Match (and after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3).  A message advises that it's not possible to removed old artwork if it's embedded.  How can I 'unembed' old cover art and replace?

Normally artwork recovered with iTunes is stored as a separate artwork file and iTunes refers to that file to display artwork when you click on a track.  However, if you then copy the file to another player the artwork file is left behind and the track will not display the artwork on the other player.  To get around this it is possible to embed the artwork in the music file itself so it always travels with the file.  Artwork can be embedded by you or files from third party sources may arrive with embedded artwork.  iTunes apparently now won't replace artwork for such files.  You can accomplish this by completely deleting artwork for a file or set of files in Get Info, then getting iTunes to fetch artwork which will then be set as a reference file rather than being embedded.
I use an old iTunes so unless you are using an ancient iTunes it won't help for me to give you great details.  To erase artwork I simply get info on a series of files and check the box next to the artwork box without adding any artwork and close.  To do it for  single file I Get Info, go to the artwork display tab and click delete.  Here's a Windows reference for a newer iTunes (but the "old Get Info" reference is for early iTunes 12 and no longer works with newer):I cannot delete embedded album artwork in iTunes 12
