  • Clients using Word cannot save docs to their network home folders

Hi, We're experiencing an odd behavior that I think began when we upgraded from Tiger to Leopard server. When a document is opened or started, users go to save and get a message like:"You cannot save this because it is already open somewhere else". Changing the name sometimes helps, but after changing the name five or eight times it becomes hard to tell which is most recent, and this shouldn't be happening.
We upgraded the server and all clients to 10.5.7, and Word 2008 to 12.1.7, but the behavior persists. When it began, the server was on 10.5.6 and the clients were 10.4.11, mostly using Word 2004.
Apparently folks are aware of this and are working on it, but I have not seen any solutions.
    Can anyone shed light here?
    Many thanks, ...Tom

Also know that this problem with MS Office apps has been seen as far back as with 10.3 Server.
Similarly to Adobe apps, they don't actually (not officially) support saving directly to a network volume.
There has been much finger-pointing between these 3rd-parties towards Apple, none of which helps to resolve matters.
However, as far as Office apps go, look at the top-level of your sharepoint housing user homes, for
    an item named:
    .Temporary Items
    (note the dot)
and if it's not there, create it, via the Terminal:
    cd /path/toyourdrive/NetworkHomeSharepoint
    mkdir .Temporary Items
    sudo chmod 777 .Temporary Items
*Please note that* having a globally-modifiable item (world-writable) is less than ideal in the grand scheme of things,
    but should provide a workaround.

  • Cannot save the same bookmark in different folders

Having a page open in FF, when I save the relative bookmark using Bookmarks->Bookmark this page->Show all the bookmarks folder-> <selection of folder> ->Done, if a duplicate of the bookmark exists in another folder it is deleted.
In order to better organize my bookmarks I'd prefer to have duplicates permitted.
    Is it possible?

You can do a Copy & Paste in the Bookmarks Manager (Shift+Ctrl+B) to create a copy of a bookmark.
You can also drag the (fav)icon on the left end of the location bar to a folder in the Bookmarks menu drop down list or to a folder in the side bar (Ctrl+B) or to the Bookmarks Toolbar.
In the side bar you need to click to the left of the icon to prevent Firefox from opening the bookmark.

  • Cannot save email attachments to folders in Finder

Ughhh, I'm getting a sinking feeling.... It's happening again.
Ever since I installed Mavericks back in June of 2014, I've had nothing but problems. In fact, the actual install (perhaps coincidentally, I'm told) caused my hard drive to fail in mid-install, even though it was only 2 years old. Apple Care cheerfully paid for the new hard drive and installed Mavericks for me, but ever since my previously fast, responsive computer has been incredibly sluggish, lots of beach balls, tons of problems with things like the one I'm experiencing again today -- can't save email attachments to folders in Finder (the computer behaves as if the save was successful, but when you go look in the Finder later, you discover it was never saved anywhere). Also, I can't create any new folders because it says the location is Read Only (I've tried various file locations -- same result).
Since June, after countless visits to the Genius Bar and all sorts of attempts to fix the accumulating problems, the Genius erased my User Library last December in a final attempt to get the computer to work right before my Apple Care ran out. It was one of many attempted fixes that would actually work pretty well for a few days, but then the problems would accumulate again.
Last week, Word kept crashing. I took it to the Genius Bar and the June 2014 hard drive failed a diagnostic test. Even though Apple Care had expired, Apple replaced the hard drive for free because they could see the long list of notes from all of the visits I had made to the Genius Bar. I restored everything and, although it seemed to be working okay at first, I was still getting a lot of beach balls. Sometimes it can take 30 seconds to open a Word document, even if the application is already open. (FYI, I don't keep a lot of applications running.) But at least it was working. Today, however, I'm seeing some of the old familiar problems creep in. I cannot save email attachments to a folder. I cannot create new folders. I've tried restarting the computer multiple times. All of this was working fine as recently as yesterday.
    1. Am I doing something that is causing this? This is my sixth Mac and I've never a serious problem with ANY of the others (including one that I bought USED) and I use them at least 8 hours a day. As far as I know, I'm doing everything the same way I've always done it.
    2. Has anyone else encountered this "Read Only" problem and do you know how to fix it? I'm starting to think this is just a bad computer and that this is a symptoms that something is very wrong again.
    3. Do I simply need to start over with a brand new computer (although, frankly, I'm scared to restore everything onto a new computer and risk "infecting" the new one). This is my work computer and I am self-employed, so I really cannot afford to be running to the Genius Bar once or twice a week any longer. Any advice? It's a MacBook Pro that I bought in December 2011. According to the stats, I'm using 354.68 GB of my 499.25 GB storage capacity.
Sorry this is so long. Just trying to give the context.

    Hi:
Of course this is possible on SharePoint Server 2010 and is a very nice functionality, in this link (http://www.sharepointboost.com/blog/setting-up-sharepoint-2010-incoming-mail/)
you can find a detailed information of how to set up the incoming email o SharePoint 2010 document library step by step.

  • Cannot save downloads to a sub-folder

This seems totally insane it is such a basic function, but doesn't seem to work in Mac. If I try to save a document - e.g. from an e-mail someone has sent me - Google / Firefox only give me the option to save to a top-level folder, e.g. 'documents'. But obviously there are several sub-folders in documents, & I would always need to save to one of these (nobody surely has hundreds of files floating about loose in 'documents'...?!). This means I have to then go into 'documents', find the files; open a new Finder Window & move them across to where they are supposed to be. Please please tell me that Macs are not this pathetically undeveloped; it must be something I am doing, right...?

    AliWonder wrote:
Thanks. UNbelievable - the triangle is next to the 'save as' box - NOT the box for the location where the file is to be saved! Totally illogical. Why on earth does everything in a Mac have to be some sort of annoying brain-teaser puzzle instead of being obvious & straightforward...?!

  • All sub-folders in Mac Mail cannot synchronize with Exchange Server 2010

    Hi all,
All sub-folders under Inbox in Mac Mail cannot be synchronized with Exchange Server 2010. There are 2GB messages size in Inbox folder and 500MB messages size under Inbox's sub-folders. All messages can be sent out and received and it can work in Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 normally. However, all messages in sub-folders cannot be synchronized (empty sub-folders).
Does this problem relate to message synchronization order of Mac Mail with Exchange Server? Do all sub-folders messages be synchronized after synchronization complete of Inbox? The synchronization of sub-folders will not happen if the synchronization of Inbox does not complete, doesn't it?
All messages synchronization is over internet. Can anybody help?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
1.please check the mailbox send and receive quota for exchange 2013 migrated mailbox.
2.Please check the email attributes of the exchange 2013 migrated mailbox because it seems to be a problem with that particular mailbox.
3.Then do the message tracking and that would be the only way to find the where the send messages has gone.
4.Please check and confirm you have an enough space on the disk where exchange queue database is residing.
I think I need to create a receive connector in the 2013 to receive from 2010 ?
No need ,by design  exchange 2013 cas server default frontend receive connector will be having an
entire ipv4 and ipv6 segment and anonymous connection is checked by default.
I think I also need to create a send and receive connector for 2013 users to each other?
No need , an intra organisation send connector and the default receive connectors in exchange will be used
for internal mail flow between the exchange 2013 users.
Please reply me if you have any queries .

  • Addition of new fields and sub dields in ad hoc query

    hey all,
hey friends i would like to know how to add additional fields and the sub fields in ad- hoc query.
i had tried sq02 and went on creating new field but it is nt adng there and no options of sub fields are visible.
note: i am entirely new to sap hr.. so plz try and help me out in a laymans language.

At the Date Field, there is 1 node call the Additional fields.
Then Right click the Additional field and choose create >> additional field.
Then enter the field name, description, Data type and length.
After that right click the newly created field name and choose code
    Then enter some simple code.
    E.g.
For IT2006 the table does not provide the quota balance. If order to display the quota balance we can create an additional field call ZBalance. Then at code section enter the code ZBalance = p2006-anzhl - p2006-kverb.

  • Cannot save in newly created folders

When I connect to the SMB server thing, for some reason, I cannot save to newly created folders that my co-workers make. With I right click on the folder that my co-worker created, it says "You have custom access". And I cannot save my Indesign files in that folder. But when I create a folder, everyone is able to save in that folder. When others create a folder, they are able to save in it as well, except for me. This has never been an issue before until recently.
Do I have permission issues? I ran Disk Utility to fix my permissions but no success. Help please. I just want to save my Indesign files to the server for everyone to access.
The server we are using is the Mac Mini Snow Leopard server thing.
    Thanx!

have you tried shutting down your mac, restarting and trying again with a newly created folder. do you have the same issue then?

Outlook 2010 cannot save to archive folders listed. Message says that message was already moved or that user doesn't have permission.

    Hi,
Does this issue occur when you manually archive items in Outlook, do you drag them into the archive folder?
The first thing I wonder is if the .pst file has been corrupted, please run Scanpst.exe to repair the archive .pst file:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227/en-us
Please logon your Webmail(owa), check if the emails are available. If the emails have been moved and Outlook Client hasn't synced yet, this issue may occur as well.
We can also create a new .pst file to archive the file, check if the issue persists.
For more information, we can refer to Archive items manually:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/archive-items-manually-HA010355564.aspx
When you browse to the archive file in step 5, type in a new .pst file name.
If my understanding is not accurate, please detail your scenario and provide the exact error message.

  • Cannot open sub folders...

    Hello,
Have an issue with SharePoint 2007. I have x2 document libraries and each has several sub folders.
Library 1 is fine, no issues but library 2, when I amended some permissions, all worked well for a time then suddenly stopped. Now, when clicking on one of the sub folders, it will not open, instead the url is: https://mysite.com/sitename/TopLevelFolderName/Forms/AllItems.aspx?redirect=true
Every time I or anyone clicks the folder name, it defaults to this url. Nothing has changed other than adding a single user access to this folder. Its an issue we have seen before but the work around was to recreate the folders from scratch, not really an
option this time. Searching online has not offered much luck either.
For info, this is accessed using IE 10/9/8, Chrome and FireFox with the same result. It's hosted on a W2K3 cluster.
    Any thoughts..?
    Thanks in advance. Mike

Can you try tunning fiddler and trace from where exactly it bounced back to top level folder ? Also what if you open https://mysite.com/sitename/TopLevelFolderName/Forms/AllItems.aspx?redirect=false
    url?

  • Cannot save query as local object

    Dear community,
One of our users is not able to save a query change as a local object (not to be transported).  While another user is able to do this.
Since we don't want the query changes to be transported, I must find a way to allow the save as local object in $TMP.
An authorizations trace shows everything is OK from job role perspective.
When the user changes a query in development and chooses "Save As", she is prompted for a transport.  At this time if she chooses "local object" then she is taken to the create a transport dialog.
For another user this is not the case, and the 2nd user is able to save query changes locally without a transport request.
Any thoughts on what might be the cause for this ?

    Hi Keith,
without knowing the details of you system settings and the system where it happens (prod, dev, ...). One general remark:
If you save a query lots of repository objects are generated an written to a transport request (i.e. structures, selections, ...), not only one for the query itself. Maybe in your case, the original query uses a globally defined structure in the columns or rows. If you now want to "save as" new query, many objects are checked for transportation. The global structure can not be saved as local object, because it was already transported before. Whilst the new query itself can be stored as local object. Means not all objects of the new query can be saved as local, because some are already transported.
One way to check if this could also be your problem, both of your mentioned example users should try to save exactly the same query as new local query.
    Regards
    Adios

  • Cannot save as PDF - "Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use..."

I have a number of PSD files I've created and I'm trying to save them as PDFs.
I can Save for Web and Devices, I can save as a .gif, .eps., and every other format I've tested, but I cannot save as a PDF. I get the error:
"Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use or was left open by another application."
    I'm running Adobe Master Collection CS5 with Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.0.4 x64) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
I have a 928 GB HD with 697 GB free.
I have rebooted and tried saving the files immediately after I reboot. I have killed my virus scanner. I have killed a number of other possible culprits including Acrotray.exe and CS5ServiceManager.ext
I have run Process Explorer as recommended by Microsoft and found no applications using the file. I've also tried saving the file to my external hard drive and/or renaming the file with only rare luck.
    Nothing seems to fix it.
The boards seem to suggest Adobe isn't taking responsibility for this and pointing it back to the OS or other software. I'm willing to believe them if someone can show me how/where to kill whatever process it is - but at this point, all my indicators point back to Photoshop.

Here is a clip from a past post where user could not drag and drop files to hard drive.
To my great relief I have now sorted this issue and offer the following as the Correct Answer. My sincere and grateful thanks go to Curt and Yammer, above, who have helped me so much in sorting this Windows 7 issue which is clearly very relevant to Bridge users also. Any slowness to grasp what they have been saying is down to me!
The key to solving this issue lies is understanding that in terms of Windows 7 Security, every internal or external hard drive, plus folders, sub-folders and files thereon has an OWNER. Also each OWNER has a certain level of PERMISSION to do things such as moving files to a different folder, deleting or re-naming them etc. If you try to do things that you don't currently have Permission to do, that is when you get an ‘Access Denied’ error message. Also your system has an Admistrator or Administrators and at the outset you need to ensure through the Control Panel that you are listed as one of them. .
If, like me, you didn't realise these things, (and why would you if Microsoft or your computer or hard drive suppliers couldn't be bothered to really make sure you knew about them), then trying to fathom the ‘Access Denied’ problem becomes a stressful and frustrating nightmare as I can testify having spent a week at it!
The steps that I took to resolve the issue and which I believe now constitute the 'Correct Answer' are as follows:
First make sure that you have Administrator rights on your system via the Control Panel
Next ‘right click’ on the Drive whose files you want to gain full access to, for example the drive that your pictures are stored on, and click on 'Properties'.
Under the Security tab you will see a list of Groups and Users on this drive and the Permissions that they have to do things.
Before doing anything to edit these Permissions, first click on the Advanced button. This opens another window with a tab showing the Owner of this drive.
Click on the Owner tab and if you are not already listed as the owner, make yourself the owner by selecting your name from the list. I believe it should appear there if you are an admistrator or user. (In my case at this stage the owner was initially shown as an obscure string of numbers and letters which I believe identified the drive when it was connected to the lap top I was using before I upgraded my machine)
Now be sure to check the box that says "Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects" and the click Apply. On completion of this step, the drive in question and all the folders, subfolders and files thereon should now be 'owned' by you. You could check this out by right clicking on a particular folder then clicking Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner. Your name should appear. So far so simples!
Now go back to the Security Tab for your drive (Step 2 / 3 above) and look at the Permissions you currently have. Your aim now is to allow yourself 'Full Control.' If you don’t currently have this level of permission click Edit, select your name on the list, check ‘Full Control’ and 'Apply' the change.
I think I'm right in saying that at this point whilst still working in the Drive directory you are now given the option of ticking boxes which allow you to, in effect, cascade the permission you have just granted yourself to all the files and folders on that drive. Tick the box to allow this and Windows should then take care of the rest.If I'm not quite correct here then in my particular case, for example, all my images were stored on my external drive. The top level, or 'parent' folder in which all my pictures could be found was the 'My Pictures' folder and I had created a number of folders and subfolders ('child ' folders) within that folder. The permissions I gave to the Parent folder – My Pictures – were cascaded down through the Child folders.
On completion of the above step I tested the result in Windows Explorer by dragging a few files back and forth between folders and it now worked perfectly - I was now able to move / delete / rename etc all files without now getting the dreaded access denied message. What a sense of relief! This meant that I could now open Bridge normally rather than having to right click it and 'Run As Admistrator' - albeit that is a very useful thing to do until you get the problem sorted as described.

  • My bookmarks are disappearing/reappearing randomly and I cannot save new ones

Since this morning 8/17 I have had an odd problem with my bookmarks. Initially both my Blogs and News and Views sub-folders came up empty while nothing else was affected and the bookmarks in them were not to be found elsewhere. Later, after a reboot, I was able to get back some but by no means all of the ones in those folders. I also cannot save any new bookmarks (which would have solved the problem since I can look up the websites I'm currently missing). Also the history/show all button brings up the bookmark menu but it is not saving anything as 'show all today' comes up empty.
The only thing I can think of was that last night, while trying to solve an unrelated problem, I went to tools>options>privacy and cleared my history from there. Unfortunately, I was not having this problem right after that although I rebooted my computer afterwards.
I just updated firefox a few minutes ago so it isn't an upgrade issue, I think.
What the heck is going on?

It sounds like the file that stores bookmarks and History may be damaged. See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite Locked or damaged places.sqlite - MozillaZine Knowledge Base]

  • Server finder not showing all sub-folders

When I access my Mountain Lion Server from my iMac, I instantly have access to folders and sub-folders. But on some (but not all) of these I cannot then access documents within them. In other words, in the multi-pane Finder window, the final pane is simply blank. i.e - Serverdata>Folder>Subfolder>Blank
Read/write permissions on all relevants docs and folders are identical and open for me as an admin. On the server itself, all folders, sub-folders and docs are clearly visible. I'm obviously doing something stupid....any ideas?!

I forgot to mention i've also made this "make shift" refresh button
    tell application "Finder"
    tell front window
    update every item with necessity
    end tell
    end tell
Copy it, open Script Editor and save it as an executable application in your Utilities folder. Now put shortcuts to it in your Dock or your Sidebar or whereever. When you run it, the frontmost window in the Finder will be refreshed to its most current state from disk.
When I can see all items(when freshly mapped) and I click the app i've made above it removes the same files and folders from view.
