Cannot save etc

I have posted about this before but got round it by an undesired method. This time two SMC re sets with switch off of bkp drives. Of course that may not be what pulled the trick. Last time not only the Text editors but also browsers could not be saved
I couldn't save in either Text edit or Neo Office. Got the spinning multi coloured wheel each time. I could use Force Quit but the pointer of the mouse had changed from an arrow to a typing cursor. I could not get the mouse to do an orderly shut down per the Apple Menu as none of the buttons would work and the pointer continued as a spinning multi coloured wheel.
I did wait quite a while for the spinner to go and the files to save but no. X not responding was the verdict of Force Quit and Acivity monitor.
As said I had to try SMC more than once. Until the last time I did not get past the grey screen. Am I correct that that is the firmware screen?
Has anyone any idea what this is all about. Seems not to be just particular applications. What logs if any can I look at to hopefully report to 'you' for diagnosis.
Are the persistent grey (firmware only?) screens connected to the failure to save or merely to the unconventional shut downs in a particular conjunction? I don't like it when I cannot get the OS to boot without three tries.

  • All the functions under file are not working. I cannot save as image, I cannot save, etc

    All of a sudden, I cannot "save as other" or "save" I cannot open a new file. I can print. I can use feature "get document signed". When I click on any of those non-working features, nothing happens. In save as other, the drop down menu opens but if I click on something, nothing happens.

    I fixed it somehow.

  • Update iPad2 to IOS 4.3.5 cannot save backup to PC

    When trying to do update from iTunes, the backup abort stating that it cannot save to the pc. Normal sync works for apps etc. Only firmware upgrade doesn't work. Manually backup also doesn't work.

    Apple is still showing this from what I see on the downloads website. Try this.

    If that link doesn't open and it looks like it won't open right to the iOS 5.1.1 download - go here and type in iOS 5.1.1 in the search bar.

    Hi,
    To configure your ODBC DataSource, go to Control Panel ---> DataSources(ODBC) (If you are in a Windows environment).
    Select the tab System DSN. If you have not added your data source, then do so by clicking on the Add button. If you have added the datasource, click on the Configure button to configure it.
    Give the datasource name, then the database name.
    You have to give the hostname, service name and server name. I guess, in most cases, the datasource name and host name will be the same, service name and server name will be the same. If you are using TCP/IP, the protocol will be onsoctcp.
    There will be a file named Services under C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc where you have to give the port number for accessing this server.
    It will be like this <service name> <portnumber>/tcp
    Hope this helps...
    best wishes,
    Nish

  • Cannot save as PDF - "Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use..."

    I have a number of PSD files I've created and I'm trying to save them as PDFs.
    I can Save for Web and Devices, I can save as a .gif, .eps., and every other format I've tested, but I cannot save as a PDF. I get the error:
    "Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use or was left open by another application."
    I'm running Adobe Master Collection CS5 with Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.0.4 x64) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
    I have a 928 GB HD with 697 GB free.
    I have rebooted and tried saving the files immediately after I reboot. I have killed my virus scanner. I have killed a number of other possible culprits including Acrotray.exe and CS5ServiceManager.ext
    I have run Process Explorer as recommended by Microsoft and found no applications using the file. I've also tried saving the file to my external hard drive and/or renaming the file with only rare luck.
    Nothing seems to fix it.
    The boards seem to suggest Adobe isn't taking responsibility for this and pointing it back to the OS or other software. I'm willing to believe them if someone can show me how/where to kill whatever process it is - but at this point, all my indicators point back to Photoshop.

    Here is a clip from a past post where user could not drag and drop files to hard drive.
    To my great relief I have now sorted this issue and offer the following as the Correct Answer. My sincere and grateful thanks go to Curt and Yammer, above, who have helped me so much in sorting this Windows 7 issue which is clearly very relevant to Bridge users also. Any slowness to grasp what they have been saying is down to me!
    The key to solving this issue lies is understanding that in terms of Windows 7 Security, every internal or external hard drive, plus folders, sub-folders and files thereon has an OWNER. Also each OWNER has a certain level of PERMISSION to do things such as moving files to a different folder, deleting or re-naming them etc. If you try to do things that you don't currently have Permission to do, that is when you get an ‘Access Denied’ error message. Also your system has an Admistrator or Administrators and at the outset you need to ensure through the Control Panel that you are listed as one of them. .
    If, like me, you didn't realise these things, (and why would you if Microsoft or your computer or hard drive suppliers couldn't be bothered to really make sure you knew about them), then trying to fathom the ‘Access Denied’ problem becomes a stressful and frustrating nightmare as I can testify having spent a week at it!
    The steps that I took to resolve the issue and which I believe now constitute the 'Correct Answer' are as follows:
    First make sure that you have Administrator rights on your system via the Control Panel
    Next ‘right click’ on the Drive whose files you want to gain full access to, for example the drive that your pictures are stored on, and click on 'Properties'.
    Under the Security tab you will see a list of Groups and Users on this drive and the Permissions that they have to do things.
    Before doing anything to edit these Permissions, first click on the Advanced button. This opens another window with a tab showing the Owner of this drive.
    Click on the Owner tab and if you are not already listed as the owner, make yourself the owner by selecting your name from the list. I believe it should appear there if you are an admistrator or user. (In my case at this stage the owner was initially shown as an obscure string of numbers and letters which I believe identified the drive when it was connected to the lap top I was using before I upgraded my machine)
    Now be sure to check the box that says "Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects" and the click Apply. On completion of this step, the drive in question and all the folders, subfolders and files thereon should now be 'owned' by you. You could check this out by right clicking on a particular folder then clicking Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner. Your name should appear. So far so simples!
    Now go back to the Security Tab for your drive (Step 2 / 3 above) and look at the Permissions you currently have. Your aim now is to allow yourself 'Full Control.' If you don’t currently have this level of permission click Edit, select your name on the list, check ‘Full Control’ and 'Apply' the change.
    I think I'm right in saying that at this point whilst still working in the Drive directory you are now given the option of ticking boxes which allow you to, in effect, cascade the permission you have just granted yourself to all the files and folders on that drive. Tick the box to allow this and Windows should then take care of the rest.If I'm not quite correct here then in my particular case, for example, all my images were stored on my external drive. The top level, or 'parent' folder in which all my pictures could be found was the 'My Pictures' folder and I had created a number of folders and subfolders ('child ' folders) within that folder. The permissions I gave to the Parent folder – My Pictures – were cascaded down through the Child folders.
    On completion of the above step I tested the result in Windows Explorer by dragging a few files back and forth between folders and it now worked perfectly - I was now able to move / delete / rename etc all files without now getting the dreaded access denied message. What a sense of relief! This meant that I could now open Bridge normally rather than having to right click it and 'Run As Admistrator' - albeit that is a very useful thing to do until you get the problem sorted as described.

  • Cannot save form although I've enabled the rights using Acro 8 Pro

    I created a form in Acrobat 8 Pro (using the 30 day trial, trying to see if I can do it first as suggested I can before I buy). I prepared the form in the design mode, I enabled it with save (and other) capabilities for Reader (under the advanced menu), but when I test it by opening it in Reader 6.0 (latest version I have), I am not able to save it.
    Do I need to have a later version of Reader? My customers likely won't.
    In reader, I type into it and get the pop up telling me I cannot save anything typed into the form, etc. etc. I try to click the SUBMIT and PRINT buttons I enabled while in Acro 8 Pro, nothing works.
    Have I missed a step ... or 5????
    Would like this capability, cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to work! I would buy the software if this was possible, and can make good use of the 500 and under document rule in the EULA.

    I created the form using Live Cycle Designer b/c that was how Adobe prompted me to create INTERACTIVE forms that would be able to be assigned privilges. From your comments (Steve Foxall), it seems I do have the option but didn't take it. I will look into that also.
    Aandi - I set up the submit and print through the Designer wizard-system and provided an email address (which works when I open the document using Acro 8 PROFESSIONAL, but not READER).
    I have tested it in Reader 7 and 8, it works in both. But not 6, it seems. Same form, no changes. Hmmm.

  • I cannot save data on a pdf on my tablet since most recent update

    I use Adobe reader on my Galaxy Note 8 to do audits. I fill in with forms with stylus. Since the update I cannot save any data to forms. The "Save" button, previously in upper right hand corner of screen, is gone. There is only a check mark on the screen. I thought that was to save, but it doesn't work.

    "Stylus mode" -- Are you referring to the "Freehand" annotation tool?  It is available regardless of whether you use a stylus or not.
    In the previous version, the Freehand annotation toolbar looked like this.
    The Save button above is used to commit a particular annotation change.  Please note that it does not save other changes (e.g. filling out form fields) that have been made to a PDF document.
    In the latest version 11.4, it now looks like this.
    Once you add a Freehand annotation to a PDF document, you can tap the checkmark icon to commit the change.  Do you see the change that you've just made on a page?
    Are any changes (not just addition of Freehand annotations) lost once you close the PDF document?
    If none of the changes you've made have been saved automatically, it is highly likely that you encountered a known problem in Adobe Reader for Android.
    Your PDF document is locally stored on an external SD card (not internal storage).
    Your Android OS version is 4.4 (KitKat).
    Adobe Reader cannot save any changes to the files on an external SD card due to the major Android OS changes to SD card permissions on KitKat.  We are still working on fixing the problems.  In the meantime, please copy the files from your external SD card to your device's internal storage (e.g. /storage/emulated/0/Documents/...) using a File Manager/Browser app or use a cloud storage service (Acrobat.com, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) to store files.
    Please let us know if you need further assistance.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Since latest Firefox automatic update, any downloaded jpg is saved as a firefox file and I cannot save as a jpg. Why?? Help please!!

    Since the latest FF automatic update - any jpg I send to myself I cannot save as a jpg. This is so frustrating. I use my camera phone to take shots of our library activities and then to make newsletters, website updates etc. Just started this week. Today is the first day I noticed this problem.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Today 7/28/10

    You can rename the files and give them a .jpg file extension.
    You can force that while saving the file if you add quotes around the name: "image.jpg"

  • Savemail: cannot save rejected email anywhere

    Hi folks...
    When I run dmesg I see lots of sendmail errors that state "savemail: cannot save rejected email anywhere". I found a document at "http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-9-83988-1" that indicates the if I run "/usr/lib/sendmail root@localhost </etc/motd
    " it will produce the cannot save messages.
    The forum document indicates that this errors may have something to do with the hosts.deny hosts.allow files. But under the /etc there is only the symbolic link to the hosts file.
    So can anyone advise me on if I have to create the hosts.allow and/or hosts.deny files what entries in either file will stop the cannot save error messages?
    On our Solaris 10 O/S I couldn't find those other hosts.* files.
    Thanks in adavnce

  • I cannot save an image that I have resized in Preview version 7.0

    When I resize any image in Preview version 7.0 I get an error that says I cannot save it.  This happens with jpg, tiff, png, etc. and I have attempted to save to my desktop and other locations to no avail.  Is anyone else having this problem and how do I get around it?

    Back up all data.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    When attempting to add an event to my calendar and I press "Done," I receive a message that reads "Cannot Save Event," "That event does not belong to that event store." How do I remedy this problem so I can add events and appointments to my calendar?

    i am having the exact same problem, same messages (no end date set; cannot save; no calendar set; event does not belong to that event store."
    it is unbelievable to me that this issue existed so long ago and hasn't been fixed. I just bought my first apple product (iphone4s) and am ready to toss it. Despite hours of searching on these forums I have been unable to find out how to fix my calendar. I have rebooted, adjusted settings to no avail. without a calendar, i can't use this product. Also, i am not technologically brilliant and can't handle the advanced fixes that some people recommend.
    question, is apple a product for the ignorant like me? or should i go back to nuts and bolts pc?
    all i really want is to be able to use the calendar without "uploading, reprogramming, contacting support offices for 3 hours, contacting network administrators, upgrading, switching fonts, changing operating systems.... etc. " I am just a regular person who needs a portable calendar.
    sorry to vent, but can anybody tell me (in simple terms) how to get my calendar to accept a simple apointment?
    thank you.

  • Cannot save an edit

    When I pick a photo in Photoshop elements 5.0 to edit it will not let me save the edits.  The error message is "Could not complete your request because of a program error"
    I have already did a repair installation to the program but that did not work.

    I hope that I'm not jumping over someone's head, but I was having the same problem until I realize I had loaded a file/picture from the SD card and, when attempting to save, was trying to save BACK to that card.  The computer cannot save a pic file BACKto the SD card.  You have to designate another file folder on the hard drive, or some where else to save the modified file.  I've been beating my head for 2 days over this, reloaded the program, repaired, etc, etc,.  THEN  I happened to look down and noticed the SD card sticking out of the front of the computer.  DUH!  Changed folder and it's working fine!

  • Cannot save the selected regions

    I'm just trying to set up a site for a client. I don't use Dreamweaver so I'm trying to create editable regions in the browser, following the instructions (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/InContextEditing/Administrator/index.html#editable).
    When I put a tick in the checkbox and click on Save, I get an error message: "You cannot save the selected regions, etc". The region is not dynamically generated - in fact this is a very simple static page with no scripts at all, nothing complicated. Here's the URL: http://www.artonhart.com.au/guestbook.html
    The region I'm trying to select is a td, id=guestbook.

    Well... as for the table structure thats not exactly correct. The proper way to code a table is as follows
    Please read this thread: Re:  Editing a Table using ICE
    define div
         define table
              define table body (create a repeating group if you have repeating cells)
              define table rows
                   define table headings (can be editable if enabled)
                   define table rows (enable repeating if you like)
                        define table data (create editable cells)
    <div
    id="repeating-table">
      <table width="100%" id="Name_Table">
    <tbody ice:repeatinggroup="*">
          <tr>

    <th width="58"> <h2>Column Heading 3 </h2></th>
    <th width="50"> <h2>Column Heading 4 </h2></th>
