Cannot see "Oracle Database Server" in Data Source in VS2005
I've installed "ODTwithODAC10202.exe" on my machine. When I'm trying to add connection in server explorer in VS2005, I cannot see the "Oracle Database Server (Oracle ODP.NET)" in Data Source field. However, I try to connect to database with Oracle Explorer, it works.
Thanks

You need to download and install the latest version 11 beta release to take advantage of the latest features, including integration with Server Explorer.

Cannot see ODBC driver as a data source
Hi
I've installed both the Win32 and Win64 11.2g clients on our Win2008R2sp1 server.
I can get my connection to test fine from c:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe (the 32bit ODBC Admin panel), and from sqlplus and sqldeveloper (all on the "client_2" x32bit product).
I've set ORACLE_HOME to the 32bit product.
D:\>echo %ORACLE_HOME%
D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_2
I have Strawberry Perl x32 installed and a x32bit VB Application. Neither will connect.
Perl...
D:\>perl -MDBI -le "my $h = DBI->connect('dbi:ODBC:dbase02',rouser,rouser); $h->disconnect()"DBI connect('dbase02','rouser',...) failed: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified (SQL-IM002) at -e line 1
On my App I get
S1000: [oracle]p[ODBC][Ora]ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.
As I've said, the System DSN is on the 32bit ODBC Panel and is 'test's fine from there.
Oddly enough I have a few identical servers where I'd set up connections that work fine, using the same setup. Could be we've had a patch that messed things up? Any ideas on how to get roud the SQL-IM002 or ORA-12560 error would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: on servers where we have a working System DSN, if I simply clone it (open existing, change TNS Name and Identified and Save) the cloned 'new' System DSN works fine. However if I create it from scratch it does not! So something is prohibiting me from creating new System DSN entries that are accepted/read by the ODBC Driver???
Many Thanks
Kieran

The error below makes absolutely no sense! I'm using Enterprise Core...yet I'm being told I can't use remote data sources:
w3wp!library!8!03/05/2015-19:08:48:: i INFO: Catalog SQL Server Edition = EnterpriseCore

Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.;
Really? This totally contradicts the documentation found here:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157285(v=sql.110).aspx
That article says remote connections are completely supported.
ARGH! Why does this have to be so difficult to setup?!?Hi jeffoliver1000,
According to your description, you are using Enterprise Core edition and you are prompted that you can’t use remote data sources.
In your scenario, we neither ignore your point nor be doubt with what you say. But actually we have met the case before that even though the SQL Server engine is Enterprise but the reporting services is still standard. So I would recommend you to find the
actual edition of reporting services you are using. You can find Reporting Services starting SKU in the Reporting Service logs ( default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\<instance name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles). For more information,
please refer to the similar thread below:

By the way, have you installed the other SQL Server edition before?

OWB 10g -- Can't Create Database Links for Data Source and Target
We installed OWB 10g server components on a Unix box running Oracle 10g (R2) database. The Designer Repository is in one instance. The Runtime Repository and the Target are in another instance. The OWB client component was installed on Windows XP. We create a data source module and a target module in OWB. The data source is on another Unix box running Oracle 9i (R2) database. We try to create database links for data source module and target module, respective. But when we created and tested the DB links, the DB links were failed.
For the database link of data source, we got the following error message:
Testing...
Failed.
SQL Exception
Repository Error:SQL Exception..
Class Name: CacheMediator.
Method Name: getDDEntryFromDB.
Repository Error Message: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
For the database link of target , we got the following error message:
Testing...
Failed.
API2215: Cannot create database link. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and the details on how to reproduce it.
Repository Error:SQL Exception..
Class Name: oracle.wh.ui.integrator.common.RepositoryUtils.
Method Name: createDBLink(String, String, String, String).
Method Name: -1.
Repository Error Message: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
However, we could connect to the two databases (data source and target) using the OWBs utility SQL Plus.
Please help us to solve this problem. Thank you.As I said prior the database link creation should work from within the OWB client (also in 10).
Regarding your issue when deploying, have you registered your target locations in the deployment manager and did you first deployed your target location's connector which points out to your source?
I myself had some problems with database link creations in the past and I can't remember exactly what they were but it had something to do with
- the use of abnormal characters in the database link name
- long domain name used in as names.default_domain in my sqlnet.ora file
What you can do is check the actual script created when deploying the database link so see if there's something strange and check if executing the created script manually works or not. -
Local Cube Filtering / Add SSAS database as a data source for another SSAS project
I need to generate a local cube using a fully processed SSAS database deployed on SSAS server. However, I need to restrict the data downloaded in the local cube while doing this.
I have restricted access to the dimension data by mapping data to UserName/CustomData & using
dynamic role-based security. When I generate a
local cube by executing an AdoMdCommand using xmla structure of this online cube, the .cub file thus created also contains the data that shouldn't be accessible to the user creating the cube.
I am aware of
CREATE GLOBAL CUBE statement, but since it has some limitations such as we cannot have DISTINCT COUNT measures, I cannot use this statement because my online cube contains some important measures that use the DISTINCT COUNT aggregation. Plus, when I include
a dimension with huge amount of data in it, the execution of command times out.
So I am trying out an approach wherein I create a different SSAS project and use the existing SSAS database as a Data Source and then carry out the filtering to output the .cub file using xmla structure of this project database. The problem is, somehow SQL
Server Data Tools 2012 does not recognize another SSAS database as a valid data source.
Could someone please let me know why can't we do this or suggest me any alternative approach to implement this?
Regards, <br/> AkshayHi David,
According to your description, you are creating a SQL Server Analysis Services project, now what you want is using SAP HANA as the data source, right?
SSAS support many type of data source. However, as you can see on the link below, SAP HANA data source was not listed on that link. So this type of data source is not supported in current version of SSAS. Microsoft will update that document when it is supported.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-IN/library/ms175608.aspx
Thank you for your understanding.

Hi to all.
Currently, i am trying to install patches for portal server.
The server OS is Sun Solaris 8.
We are using Oracle9iAS.
Now, we are installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.
We managed to install the patch, but have problem with the Post Install Action.
We managed to run
-ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
-@rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql
-ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
-CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
-update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
-commit;
But, when we come to the next command, which is to shutdown, it gives us like
this..
SQL> update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
1402 rows updated.
SQL> commit;
Commit complete.
SQL> shutdown immediate
Database closed.
Database dismounted.
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01219: database not open: queries allowed on fixed tables/views only
We tried to startup the database..it gives us this error..
SQL> startup
ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
So, we tried to shutdown again..
SQL> shutdown immediate
ORA-01089: immediate shutdown in progress - no operations are permitted
I been informed that this is maybe a Database problem related. Any ideas?

How to access a PDF file from Oracle DATABASE SERVER
Hi
I have some pdf files in "\home2\docs" directory in Oracle database server 10g. (OS is Linux) I want to access those pdf files from my client system through Oracle Forms. How is it possible?
Please Help!!!! It is very urgent !!!
Expecting fast response!!!!!
Byehi
Thank u for ur response.
Initially i tried to access pdf file from database server. I didn't get any solution for that. So I copied all my pdf files to Application server which is in Linux environment at "/home2/docs" directory.
I gave the following command for accessing the pdf files kept in Lnux Application Server from Oracle 10g forms in a button press trigger.
web.show_document('http://192.168.1.53:7779/home2/docs/test.pdf');
It says "page cannot be found"
So I copied one of the pdf file named "test.pdf" to "/oracle/oas10g/IasHome/forms90/java" in Linux Application Server . Then the following command
web.show_document('http://192.168.1.53:7779/forms90/java/test.pdf');
has opened the the pdf file in browser.
192.168.1.53 is my Linux Application Server IP. and 7779 is the port.
Actually we have lacs of pdf files. So i cannot keep all the pdf files in "/oracle/oas10g/IasHome/forms90/java" directory in Linux Application Server. And also all the pdf files not in the same directory , "/home2/docs" some of the pdf files r in the subdirectories of "/home2/docs/" like /home2/docs/sub1, /home2/docs/sub2, /home2/docs/sub3 etc.
Then how to configure my "/oracle/oas10g/IasHome/forms90/server/forms90.conf" file for retrieving pdf files from "/home2/docs/" and its subdirectories. Is Anything other than this, required for solving my problems.
Now My PDF files r in LINUX APPLICATION SERVER not in database server.
Please help!! It is VERY URGENT!!! -

Where can I get Oracle database server 9i for windows 2003
Hi,
I need Oracle Database Server 9i for Windows 2003. From Oracle online download, there is one a patch set available. Where can I get the full version?
Thanks
LauraHi, I found the solution. There is no software to direcly install Oracle 9i on Windows 2003. I need to install the software for NT/2000 first, the patch it.
That's why there is only patchset for 2003 for downloading. See the doc below:
three installation components required to install
Oracle9i Database release 2 (9.2.0.3.0) on Windows Server 2003. These three
installation components must be installed in the order listed. If you are
migrating a pre-existing Oracle9i database to Windows Server 2003, first
upgrade the database to the Oracle9i Database release 2 (9.2.0.3.0) patch set
before upgrading the operating system.
Obtain the following installation components:
Oracle9i Database Release 2 (9.2.0.1.0) for Windows
Oracle Universal Installer release 2.2.0.18.0 for Windows
Oracle9i Database Release 2 (9.2.0.3.0) Patch Set for Windows -
Oracle OLAP as OBIEE Data Source
I've got a couple of questions regarding the use of Oracle OLAP (Analytic Workspace/Cube) as an OBIEE data source.
First: As a general rule when creating a dimension, we create a total roll-up for the dimension i.e. "Total Product", "Total Geog", "Total Customer" etc... Generally, I don't create a total roll-up for time dimensions. When importing metadata from OLAP to OBIEE, OBIEE creates a "Total" level for all dimensions. Now, I understand why OBIEE does that; to support queries that might exclude one or more dimensions. My question is: what is the best method/procedure to deal with the extra "Total" level?
Second: I would appreciate it if someone could explain this error for me: [nQSError: 59137] Filter level YEAR is below the projected level Total on dimension CMP_TIME while an externally aggregated measure is present. (HY000). I understand the words, but have no clue what OBIEE is trying to tell me. This error pops up constantly and I see no rhyme or reason that would cause it. the specific case above occurred when I clicked on the sort icon for a measure included in a report.
Thanks,Mark,
Thanks for the reply. However, I'm not sure I made myself clear. I have created a "Product" dimension in AWM (Analytic Workspace Manager) in the following structure: Product -> Product Line -> Total Product. Withing the context this hierarchy, "Total Product" is the "Grand Total" Level. When this data is imported into OBIEE using "Oracle OLAP" as a data source, the Product hierarchy is created in the Physical Layer as an "Oracle OLAP Dimension". In the BMM Layer, the hierarchy is structured as: Product -> Product Line -> Total Product -> Total. There are now two "Total" Levels. Naturally only one, the OBIEE generated Total, is defined as "Grand Total". The only child of the Total level is Total Product. I have two hierarchy levels that are the same. So, do we need both? should we keep both? Should a dimension defined within AWM for use in OBIEE NOT include a total level? It's not really a problem, it just doesn't seem to make any sense to have TWO total levels within a hierarchy.
On the second issue, I wish I could provide some detail, but I'm really not sure how I'd do that. That's why I asked for the meaning of the error. What is OBIEE telling me that I'm doing wrong. All I really did was import the metadata, drag it to the BMM Layer, deleted some of the hierarchy level keys, renamed some columns and dragged the stuff over to the Presentation Layer. So, it's pretty much drag-and-drop.
Another example of the error: We have a Category Dimension (Sub Category -> Category -> Category Group -> Model -> All Categories -> Total) and I want to see the top 10 values of a measure by Category by Model. In an Analysis, adding the Model column works fine, just not the best visualization. Move the Model column to "Sections" and all works; move the Model column to Pivot Table Prompts and it errors. Obviously, I'm asking OBIEE to do something it doesn't want to do, so I'm looking for the root cause of the error.
Thanks, -

Can you connect with the Oracle driver? I'm not sure whether the Microsoft driver is supported against a 9i database (I have no information either way).

Webcast : Sun Oracle Database Machine for Data Warehousing -Sep 30 noon ET
Sun Oracle Database Machine for Data Warehousing
Jean Pierre Dijcks - Data Warehousing Product Mgmt, Oracle
https://conference.oracle.com/imtapp/app/cmn_jm_hub.uix?mID=158101510
On September 15 Oracle announced the second generation of its Database Machine, making an already strong data warehousing product significantly stronger. The new version runs on Sun hardware and offers important new features. Available in full rack, half rack, quarter rack, and basic unit configurations, the Sun Oracle Database Machine can add value at many data warehouse size levels.
The Sun Oracle Database Machine runs on Oracle Database 11g Release 2 and has new features such as:
