Cannot Write or Read to disk Error during iPhone 3g 3.1 sync

Searched the forum with no luck. Just upgraded to 3.1 on my 3G and I cannot sync without it stopping with the error - Cannot write or read disk. It seems like its almost random on what file it picks to stop on - the file plays fine in iTunes 9. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Restore the Touch. There is no easy way to remove files from an iPod as it classes media on the iPod as "read-only" - There are software products that can be used to remove media from an iPod, but it is not an official method and you risk causing more damage.
If you really need the files on the Touch then use Google to find a program to remove files, there are a few, but do so at your own risk!
Kind regards,
Peter.

  • Cannot write or read to Disk

I tried to sync my iPod Touch to my computer and it went through the whole process then at the end gave me the following error message:
"Attempting to copy to disk 'iPod Touch' failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
It worked this morning, im not sure what happened. I thought about restoring but im afraid that might not solve the problem and ill be stuck with an empty Touch.
    What should i do.

  • My first gen ipod mini does no longer sync with itunes 11.0. It says "cannot write or read". Ist this the end?

My first gen ipod mini (that I use in my car) does no longer sync with itunes 11.0. It basically says "cannot write or read". Is this the "end of life" of that ipod?

You mean you can't get to the Summary pane?
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

I cannot get any of my information from my Iphone or Ipad to sync with my Icloud account. Any suggestions?

Well, what exactly have you done so far?
    Is iCloud activated?
What data is marked to be synced?
    What happens on icloud.com?
Have you installed the iCloud utility on your computer?

  • ERROR: "The iPhone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start.?"

I have iTunes 10.5 (whatever the most updated is) with the new iPhone 4S. Its new, i never dropped it, and i'm 99.99999% confident there's nothing wrong with it.
With that in mind, these last few days this strange error, "the iphone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start"... It used to sync properly but now it just doesn't sync at all.
I have Windows Vista also. This is not normal and i've never seen this before.
What can I do to fix this error?

The way I fixed this (though I'm using a iTouch 4G): disconnect your iPhone from the computer, shut down iTunes, then reset your iPhone by holding the Power/Sleep & Home buttons together for 10 seconds. Restart iTunes, then when your iPhone restarts, reconnect it to the computer, and everything should work fine

  • Cannot Save File because of disk error

I selected 4 RAW images in Lightroom and chose the Merge to Panorama In Photoshop. After the file was created and I cropped it to my desired dimensions I tried to perform a simple save. I was asked what name to give the file and I went with the default settings and clicked OK on the Maximize Compatibility dialogue but I get an error that said "Cannot Save XXXXXX.PSD because of a Disk Error.
There are no details and not other options to find details. The drive these images came from have permissions set to Read and Write so I don't know what the issue is.

Your OS has reported a disk error - which usually means that there is a serious problem with the disk.
Photoshop is just passing along the error it got from the OS.

  • Disk errors during backup

    Hi, I'm baaaaaaack!
I have a new (replacement) Netware 6.5 SP8 server running Groupwise,
with 4 RAID'ed 450GB 10K SAS drives giving me about 1.2TB of space. In
keeping things arranged close to the way they were before I arrived, for
now at least, I have a "DATA_POOL" which holds "SYS2" volume. During
nightly backups, since the new server went in about 12 days ago, I'm
getting backups failing, and eventually the SYS2 volume dismounted last
    weekend during the full backup.
I tried doing a poolrebuild even though poolverify showed no errors, per
Symantec & Novell documentation, and that didn't suffice. Had to do the
"purge" rebuild, and then was able to re-mount the volume. I wasn't
sure if the error was somehow related to the server migration, so I
tried the same full backup again and got the same nasty results.
Rebuilt again, and made some changes to the OFMCDM.CFG file as
recommended in some Symantec documentation, and the backups have been
    succeeding.
However, the logs show lots of entries like the following, still, always
    during the backups:
    3-08-2011 9:43:15 pm: COMN-3.26-178
    Severity = 5 Locus = 3 Class = 0
NSS-2.70-5009: Pool AIRP_COMM/DATA_POOL_SP had an error
    (20012(beastTree.c[510])) at block 129200397(file block
    -129200397)(ZID 1).
    3-08-2011 9:43:15 pm: COMN-3.26-180
    Severity = 5 Locus = 3 Class = 0
NSS-2.70-5008: Volume AIRP_COMM/SYS2_SV had an error
    (20012(beastTree.c[510])) at block 129200397(file block
    -129200397)(ZID 1).
It's not clear to me if this means it *has* to be a disk drive error.
New disks would seem to increase the likelihood of physical disk
failure, but it only happens during the Backup Exec 9.2 backups of this
volume, and never on the SYS volume during those same backups.
The Groupwise total database is about 100GB, and the total volume space
is about 800GB, if that matters. (This server is built to GROW.)
Suggestions? Does this clearly point to a hardware (disk) error even
though it only happens during backups, and the symptoms changed when I
    made the OFM configuration changes?
The changes I made to OFMCDM.CFG were:
    InitialCacheSize = 0x0000000000400000 (was 200000)
    CacheSizeExpandThreshold = 0x30 (was 0x1e)
The old server didn't have any problems backing up, and everything was
brought over intact/identical in configuration, even though the above
changes did seem to help somewhat. I'm posting here because this seems
more of a "storage" (disk) issue than really a backup issue, despite the
    failures occurring during backups.
Any suggestions, or clarification about the above cause & possible fixes?
    Thanks.
    -- DE

Thanks, but I don't know of any way to back up Groupwise without using
OFM; you just can't get the data if you do that because so many
important files are open. And I do agree that it's OFM if it is not a
    hardware issue.
Your entries under "device" look like the defaults, which I started
with, and yet there are a bunch of references on the Symantec (Backup
Exec) site which suggest changing those. But I will want to compare
your entries with mine, higher in the file, to see if there is any
particular setting that is non-default and might address the issue.
I do have slots for a spare drive on this new server. Currently, the
cache is directed to the very same volume that is having issues,
although it worked fine that way in the past on the old server. But I
can easily get another drive if that will resolve this.
    Thanks.

  • NI-845x I2C Run Script.vi got error -30742. I cannot write or read

    Hi All,
    I am using Labview 8.5 and Ni-8451.
I got the error coded -30742 during writing data into MCU.
It works in Cypress IIC, but using Ni-8451 it won't work.
Please help me with... Why I got this error? Any idea?
    Best Thanks.
    Jessie

    Hi Jessie,
When asking for assistance, remember to provide all data relevant to help you find a solution. Since the error code is undefined it would be a good idea to post your code and a screenshot of the error message. Also, it is important to post the question on the appropriate board. I2C related questions go to the Automotive and Embedded Networks board.
Double check the manual from the device you would like to read/write from because you may be having problems related to syntax.

  • Repair Disk Error during Mountain Lion Install 2010 Macbook Pro

    Hello All,
Last night like many of you I downloaded Mountain Lion to update to the newest Apple OS. During the install procress I was told my Harddrive was corrupted and needed to be repaired. After running the Verify Disk utility the following errors came up
    Checking Catalog file,
    Incorrect number of thread records
    Incorrect number of thread records
    Checking catalog hierarcchy.
    Invalid volume file count
    Checking volume information.
The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
Then I used the repair utlity on the same screen.
The message was that it had attempted to repair it three times and it could not do so.
During the repair the error message incorrect number of thread records appeared twice.
Afterwards it no longer showed that harddrive as mounted and I cannot boot back into it. When booting it gives me the option of the Install Boot, the Recovery Boot, or my Windows Partition boot.
    Two Questions
Is there a way to boot back into the OS to recover my files, I have most backed up but would like to get a few more on my external HD?
My other question is how can I sucessfully repair the disk so that I can do the above question and also install mountain lion.
    Thank you,
    Andrew

If you have no current backups, DO NOT TRY TO BOOT.
If you want to preserve the data on the internal drive(s), you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup) or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
How to back up and restore your files
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • "Windows - No Disk" error during sync

About 1/2 the time when I go to sync my 80gig iPod Classic, I get this error. "Windows - No Disk There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive I:. [Cancel] [Try Again] [Continue]"
I: is the letter assigned to the ipod. It seems to happen just as the sync process is completing. It looks as though the ipod is disconnecting itself just before itunes wants it to.
I've been having this problem ever since I got the ipod in March or April. I've reinstalled Windows a couple times since then and it still persists. I've even done a factory reset on the ipod. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

The only other 2 things I can think of are
    1) Deleting your itunes preferences files from these 2 folders after closing itunes
    (they'll get rebuilt)
    C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Applications Data\Apple Computers\iTunes
    C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Applications Data\Apple Computers\iTunes.
    2) Plugging something into every USB/drive letter port you've got.

  • I cannot write (only read) on an external hard drive when I'm running Windows on BootCamp.

I'm running Windows thanks to BootCamp perfectly, but I have a problem. I can open and read files that I have on an external hard drive (HFS+) but I can't create or modify files in it. It's like I don't have permissions. Please, how can I solve this?

  • Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.
    I have two problems.
First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, at
logoff, the system event log contains these errors:
The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.
The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:
It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected"
before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?
    Second:
Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved
    the problem described below.
My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk
file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD and
always logs on with a temporary profile.

We experience less to zero problems after an outage with our User Profile Disks when we use the option: "Store all user settings and data on the user profile disk". Other then when we use the other checkbox (even though all checkboxes
    underneath are checked).
Our test setup was, an RDSH 2012 r2 server(s), with an 2012r2 server holding the share.
We first tried the "store all user settings" for the User Profile Disk, we logged several accounts onto our RDSH Server we then disconnected our server which holds the share to simulate an outage. After about 5 minutes we connected the
server again holding the share. When the share comes back online, we logged off the users and logged them back in. The result was a valid profile for all the accounts including their last changes from before the share got disconnected.
The exact same test was done with the option: "Store only the following folders on the user profile disk" with all checkboxes underneath checked, which gave us corrupt profiles.. We also did these tests by giving the server holding the share a reboot instead
of an disconnect from network. This gave us the same result. Each test was done at least 2 to 3 times..
I hope others can confirm this as well in their situation, as it seems to be a bug within that specific checkbox.
Looking at the above tests, the best way in my test cases were to exclude the default folders (f.e.: \Documents) if you would like to redirect them instead of using them inside your User Profile Disk. Redirects can be done through GPO Folder redirection
options or GPO registry combined with Environment Variables.
Even after several attemps to simulate an outage, i get left with consistent profiles. I've now also included an hard reset of my virtual machine (that gave the same results as a disconnect of the network card). This was all done through using the: "Store
all user settings in the user profile disk". The other option left us with inconsistent profiles. I hope others can confirm this as well..
Looks to me that the type of connection towards the User profile happens different. You can see this when looking at the C:\users\<username> and subfolders if you use user profile disks. The 2 options show different symbols as well.

  • Disk Error during Disk Utility Repair Permissions

I was wondering if anybody else has experience a Disk Utility Internal Error while repairing the permissions on their system disk. What did they do to correct this issue?
A snapshot of the error can be viewed at:

I sympathise if you are on dialup! Here is the post you need (originally posted by Mac Fool):
Just to catalogue the solutions listed above
Here's what I did, and it worked fine.
    1) Move iTunes onto the Desktop.
    2) Run Disk Utility
    3) Go to HD>Library>Receipts and trash all iTunes .pkg files EXCEPT for iTunesX.pkg and iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg
    4) empty Trash.
    5) move iTune from Desktop back to 'Applications'.
Hey presto. you should now be able to repair permissions again.

    Just as Beavis posted above
