Cant boot computer with 848P neo-v mobo
Hello
I've got a pentium 4 computer with 256ram and an MSI 848P Neo-V motherboard. Yesterday I tried to start up the computer without anny problem. I notice that my mouse and keyboard don't work. I press the reset button but it doesn't work. Suddenly I got a black screen. Since the i'm unable to boot the computer. If I press the start button the fan's are working the Hard disk is spinning the processor fan is spinning.
But that's it nothing on the screen. :(
So I went looking for the problem I cleared the cmos settings put in a new battery. tried new ram, New harddisk, new Graphics card, new power supply But its still not working.
The only strange thing that i'm noticing is that the red led at the front of the case stay's on. Normaly it flashes when the cpu is working but it stay's on.
It also seems like the computer Is looking for a dvd.
Is the motherboard dead or is there a problem that I did not think of.
Thx
Btw: sorry for my bad english

Problem with 848p NEO V and GeForce FX 5600 point of View
Hello there,
I have bought a mobo yesterday (848p NEO V) then when I tried to plug the graphic card (Ge Force FX 5600 point of view) the computer reboots just before entering Win XP PRO.
So I tried another graphic card (ATI 9200), all worked fine.
In the same way, I tried my GeForce in another mobo (ECS P4VXAS) and of course all worked fine.
Each time I tried the MSI mobo with the GeForce card (using diffrents drivers), it doesn't work.
Does someone know where could this problem come from?
Thank you very much

XSERVE G4 cant boot up with CD?
I got old "Xserve 1GHz DP/512 SDRAM/ 60GB HD/2XGIGE/VGA" - contacted tech support but its way out of support and tech told me to "hit the forums"
Here is the issue - Xserve loads up to login screen - however I don't have root non any other account on this box - but i need it for my work ASAP.
I followed 2 manuals from the site and many advices on how to start up Xserve with CD-rom - nothing worked so far.
This manual doesn't look like working http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Xserve1.0.1_UserGuide.PDF
Powering Xserve holding serviceID button in the front, doesn't eject CD-tray.
All those blue lights seems to be blinking by themselves regardless of what i hold or push - Nightmare!
tried using root with pass of my serial number(also with first 8 char of my serial)
nothing - just STUCK on login screen.
Please help either get root or boot from CD(reinstall etc)
I'm trying to boot up from Mac OS X version 10.1 CD.not so quick :((...
Tried to boot up with "T" hold - nothing, no reaction on my input - jumps straight to login screen. Keyboard works, here is combinations that i've tried
so far with no success :
pressing and holding C
pressing and holding N
pressing and holding D
pressing and holding Command-Shift-Option-Delete
pressing and holding T
pressing and holding Command-Option-P-R
pressing and holding Command-Option-O-F
pressing and holding Command-Option-D
I notice one thing, serviceID light goes off amber by itself, even when was previously off.
Never though resetting root will be that hard - done it dozens of time on macs - umount -u / passwd and done, but this nightmare already took my third working day. Should i just smash it and throw outside the window?
P.s
will clearing CMOS help in any way ? what are really my options if there looks like no keyboard input accepted on bootup process by mac?

Registry/boot problem with K8T Neo mobo (solved)
I got similar problem: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=40752&sid=
Though my error message is: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"
I did NOT have this problem before i enabled the Realtek gigabit ethernet controller in BIOS.. But now when it is enabled everything runs/installs/reboots fine... until i shut down and when i turn power on next day i get that error message.
So: when Realtek 8169/8110 gigabit ethernet NIC is enabled in BIOS, necessary drivers installed and system shut down, registry get corrupted while shutting down.
I had AMI BIOS 1.1 when got this first time (after enabling realtek), flashing to 1.2 didn't help.
I also tried newest realtek 8169/8110 drivers (5.611.1231.2003) instead of original (5.606.811.2003)(they're still in msi neo-fis2r page i see) but it didn't help either.
So, any suggestions? i believe the integrated realtek causes the problem because it didn't occur before i enabled it from bios->integrated stuff... or is there any other possible reason?
oh, msinfo32 says that radeon 9800XT, IEEE1394 controller (firewire in audigy2) and realtek controller share the same IRQ 16.. i removed firewire controller but it didn't help.. could radeon and realtek sharing the same IRQ be the problem?Didn't try the external yet, i'll still try something with this.
:: Do you have a home network setup, or connect straight to modem?
straight to modem.
i doubt it is the audigy, it worked before... and i've disabled everything i don't need like onboard audio, onboard 1394.. (never installed 'em)
i noticed one thing: all people with similar problems are running win2000 SP4, you run XP so it's ok.
MS knowledge base says "If one or two registry hives consistently become corrupted for no reason, the problem probably occurs at shutdown and is not discovered until you try to load the registry hive at the next restart. In this scenario, the registry hive is written to disk when you shut down the computer, and this process may stop the computer or a component in the computer before the writing is completed." http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822705
so something (realtek?) is writing to the registry while i shut down the pc.
i'm gonna disable realtek before shutdown & see if it boots without errors... if it does, i'll just have to disable it *always* before shutdown.... sounds like driver error for me? -
Three beeps when booting new computer with MSI Z77A-G43 Mobo
I just built this pc and pressed the power button. Nothing happens for a few seconds and then I hear 3 beeps from the PC speaker. It powers off by itself and opens again, with 3 beeps again, and repeats this until i press the power button to close it down forcefully.
Board: MSI Z77A-G43
Bios: I am not sure, but the box says Click BIOS II
VGA: MSI 7850 Twin Frozr III
PSU: Corsair Builder 600W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor LGA 1155
MEM: Corsair
HDD: 1 TB Western Digital Caviar Black
COOLER: CoolMaster Hyper 212 EVO
OC: none3 beeps is a memory failure!
try each stick in slot 2 individually as you may possibly have a bad stick?
if the first suggestion doesn't work remove the CPU and check the socket as you may have a bent pin in there causing the issue? -
Boot Problem with K8n Neo 2 Platinum
I cant get my Computer to load the bios
Sometimes when I restart my computer it will lock up in the Bios Sign on and the only way to get it to boot through is to keep resetting the computer and turning the power off and on. It does this on a random basis, Ive also had problems with it locking up if the dynamic oc is turned on.
Has anybody heard of this happening or know how to fix it?

Nevertheless, if everything is set correctly, it'll work. I've been running the LLPRO 3200 1GB kit at 220MHz without any noticable problems. Run a couple of rounds with Memtest86+ to verify memory functionality.
Can you please give your specifications on the power supply unit (PSU), especially the amperage on the +12 volt rail.

Can't boot computer with 10.5 install CD or Single User Mode, or Safe Mode.
Ive written a couple times about this and responded to people who have similiar queeries but i just havent gotten any answers.
I cannot log onto my computer, I boot up and get a blue screen, with a nice black arrow. Thats as far as i can get. Obviously happening to lots of people..So, ive tried rebooting holding the C key and with 10.5 install CD, ive tried Unix (command-S), Ive tried resetting PR Ram, ive tried mantra recitation and cooing to my laptop; ive tried all the shortcuts in Oreilly's book and the only thing that DOES work is holding the OPTION key while rebooting. This brings up a nice icon of a padlock and a place to type letters or words and then there is another arrow in a box. Is this Open Firmware? I dont have an open firmware password...Ive tried entering my user password but it doenst accept it. ( I did change my password last week, did that create these problems???) how do i by pass that password????? Is it open firmware? (the date reads 1904 when i do the command option-O F command, and i cant get beyond that either...HELP!!Hello,
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Utilities from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access the Menubar at top.

Booting "issues" with K8T Neo-FIS2R
Well hello everyone. First of all I want to say that my English isn't completely error-free and my problem might seem awkward because of my ways of expression.
I also want to say that i've read alot of threads and searched the forum for my problem.
For a couple of days ago I got all my parts for building my 64bit-system and I build her up. To my suprise it booted, with almost no errors. Although I could install Windows XP and use it completely, everytime I boot it (under the booting sequence) it says "Bios is not installed", although I can enter bios simply (like everyone else) just pushing the DEL-button.
But this isn't the only problem. When I enter PC Health Status it says that the cpu is running at whooping 62-65 degrees. When i have my hand around the cpu-cooler it doesn't even feel warm so I think it has something to do with my BIOS-version that i am running now (Yes, I've read that in much more threads)
Also I have problems using the Cool'n'Quiet technology. I have it supported in the BIOS and activated it although it will not work (maybe it has something to do with the bios?) With this i mean that i will not go underclocked (It's allways 2.2 GHz)
My final problem is that it sometimes takes the system 2 minutes to boot sometimes, it happend after i flashed the bios to 1.7 from 1.0
Under these circumstances I've used 1.0 AND 1.7 BIOS-versions.
I've never overclocked the computer either.
What could be wrong?
I'm using 3200+ 2.2GHz Athlon 64 cpu.

Yesterday my CnQ began to work fine. I've done the same as you:
1- Enable CnQ Bios option
2- Install the AMD athlon64 driver for XP
3- Set "minimal power savings" at windows xp energy options
I have installed the CoreCenter 1.6.8.0 (is the last version) utility, and I've set enable the CnQ in this application. You'll can see that the CPU velocity change "on demmand" and the CPU fan too.
Of course, I've the last VIA 4in1 drivers, 1.7 Bios ver. etc

Boot problems with K8N Neo FSR
Recently i bought a new MSI K8N Neo FSR mainboard and an Athlon64 3000+
I noticed that a lot of people on this board had problems when booting Windows XP
I had the same problem: Every time i tried to boot Win, it freezed at the Win XP logo.
It seems that the problem is my cordless logitech keyboard.
When i'm using a standard PS/2 keyboard i have no problems booting.
Are there any known problems with nForce3 based mainboards and cordless logitech keyboards?
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this problem? There just seems a problem with some mobos and keyboards.
Usually it's a PS2 thing, but looks like you have found another to add to the list.

Messed up bootloader, can no longer boot computer with CD in drive
I'm trying to dual boot Arch Linux and Windows 8.1, on a Lenovo Y580 that already has Windows on it. I went through the whole installation mostly following the Beginner's Guide, picked the Syslinux bootloader and tried to set it to chainload Windows, everything seemed to go smoothly. When I restarted the computer, it just skipped straight to Windows. I figured I must have messed up the bootloader so I put the live CD back in to try to fix it, but now nothing will boot while a CD is in the drive. It hangs at the Lenovo splash screen; I can't get to the boot menu, I can't get to the BIOS, I can't do anything. When I take the CD out and restart it boots into Windows.
Presumably I messed up setting the boot flag, or something? I have absolutely no idea how to diagnose this problem, I don't even know how to investigate it because I can't boot anything besides Windows. Please let me know if you need more information, I wasn't really sure what details would be relevant to this issue. What is odd is that the system reacts to a CD being in the device (i.e. it doesn't boot Windows while it does if there is no CD in the device). This is why I think that the boot order is probably fine. Nevertheless, I don't see why it wouldn't boot the Arch CD. I could imaging some potential reasons none of which is either likely or common or easy to resolve.
(So for now, the interesting questions about that would be:
1. How did you get the Computer to boot from the Arch CD when you tried to install Arch? Did you just reboot with the CD in the drive or did you do anything specific with your Windows and/or BIOS first; if so, what?
2. If you put another CD (say, your favorite audio CD) into the drive, does it still hang at the Lenovo splash screen? Normal behavior would be that it just boots Windows.
3. Following henk's advise and checking the boot sequence in the BIOS, what exactly do you see, what is the exact boot sequence?)
burkaman wrote:Is there any other way to get to my stranded Arch installation
Sure. Just none that would be easier than from the Arch CD. You could for instance write the Arch ISO to a USB flash memory and boot from USB, like so: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … In_Windows
If your problems booting from CD persist, this might be worth a try. (However, you will still have to make sure that your boot order lists USB before the hard drive.)
burkaman wrote:maybe change the boot flags some other way?
Sure. But it is
(1) overwhelmingly unlikely that your problem with Arch has anything to do with boot flags and
(2) without a deeper understanding of how partition tables are designed and how disk partitioning utilities work, you are much more likely to seriously damage your other (Windows) partition(s) than to fix your Arch Linux partition(s).
If you feel compelled to try nevertheless, have a look at wikipedia's list of disk partitioning software: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_d … g_software
One more thought on your Arch installation and its non-working bootloader: If you by any chance set the default boot option to Windows and the timeout to 0 the behavior you describe (booting Windows instead of showing the bootloader) would be the expected one. If not, the bootloader has not been installed to the harddisk since the bootsector is obviously still occupied by Windows' own bootloader. (Otherwise, there would be no way for Windows to boot.)

I was checking my bios settings because it was eroneously reporting my processor as an xp1800, while doing this had adjusted the cpu fsb clock setting to 166mhz to see if it changed the reading in the bios instantly or not and upon exit I exited and saved on accident, now my computer wont boot and the D-bracket leds show it hanging on the memory detection test, I have tried several other sticks of ram that are good they are in the machine im using now. any one have any ideas I have tried reseting cmos with the jumper and by removing the battery and nothing any help would be great.
Thanksgot it working again messed with the j10 and j11 jumpers they control the FSB mode and freq, so set it to 100 on both instead of 133/166 and it fired right up so i could restore cmos defaults
Thanks for the help -
I accidentally used Disk Utility to fix a partition. It erased it. I desperately need to restore it.
I have an imac without a cdrom. How do I create a bootable usb with testdisk as for some bizarre reason it seems impossible to create a bootable usb drive for osx. I tried GParted and the ultimate boot disk that both have test disk.
I am stumped. Why can't I boot into my imac with a usb? I have a mac air that I just cant seem to create a usb drive with testdrive thats bootable. I even tried rEFit but no luck.
Anyone have an idea? How do I fix my system ?I have an imac OSX 10.8.
I tried creating a usb drive of testdisk on my mac air so that I could use it to boot into the iMAC and restore the partition table.
I created it using:
hdiutil convert -format UDRW -o target.img ~/Desktop/ubcd530.iso
dd if=./target.img.dmg of=/dev/rdisk1 bs=1m
It did not work. It would not boot. I also tried Gnome Partition tool and that did not boot either. I need my old system as it has important data
Any tips? Thanks! -
People with msi neo 2 mobo's and audigy 2 cards please read
I was wondering what pci slot you have your sound card in as mine is in the orange slot and have noticed pauses in games for no reason. The on board ethernet is sharing the same irq as the gfx card within windows and was wondering if i moved the sound card to another slot it may free up an irq for the ethernet. Or am i wrong, does it share with the agp anyway?
Even though mine is Neo Vanilla, the IRQ landscape shouldn't be that much different. With the nForce chipset, slot 3 has always been the sweetspot.
Just putting it in any slot is asking for trouble. What you need to be looking at is IRQ allocation in either the Device Manager, or System Info.
That will give you a good idea what is going on.
For instance, here's mine...
IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard OK
IRQ 4 Communications Port (COM1) OK
IRQ 5 WinFast TV2000 XP WDM Audio Capture OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 11 NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management OK
IRQ 12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 16 RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition OK
IRQ 17 WinFast TV2000 XP WDM Video Capture OK
IRQ 18 Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM) OK
IRQ 19 OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller OK
IRQ 20 Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller OK
IRQ 21 NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator OK
IRQ 22 Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller OK
IRQ 23 Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller OK
If you have anything sharing then you have a "Less than Optimal" configuration. If you haven't had problems, great! Creatives drivers have actually improved, as has the hardware these days in being more tolerant of the many configurations that can take place, but you are asking for problems or selling your system short as far as optimal performance goes if you have a sharing situation. -
Problem booting up with K8N Neo platinum
Turned my PC off last night fine, come home today and turn it on and it wont boot up, it gets stuck on the post, and i hear (www.freewebs.com/deanaldo/bios.wav, might need to turn ur sound up to hear it) noise from the bios and it repeats itself every 5seconds or so, my bios is Phoenix Award i think, can anyone diagnose this for me?
My system specs are
amd64 3400 cpu
1 gig ram
x800 XTPE graphics card
XP Pro(SP2)
I have tried swapping the memory about but that aint worked, I ahve took out alll unnescary stuff all my PCI cards etc. and still have this problem, I have reset the CMOS, it just gets stuck on the post and wont go into the bios and plays that anooying sound, i found somewhere that says those beeps may be " Timer not operational" a mo/bo problem
The only thing I havent been able to change is the memory as I have no other sticks to put in
I just want to know if its a mo/bo problem or memory,is someone able to diagnose this for me and possibly tell me how to fix it, if its possible?

Boot problems with K8N NEO Platinum(no video). SOLVED
I have this board for a few months now, but this week, when powering the system, it gave me no video.
It reads the HD and after a little while all the lights in the D-Bracket go green. But still no video.
There are other simptoms that can help the diagnosis: sometimes i do get video, the system powers up perfectly. This happens when I repeatedly press the reset button, or try powering on and off, on and off...
I don't think it is cold boot problem, since when I successfully turn on the system and then turn it off, the same boot problem occurs I I try turning it on again.
Another thing is that when I turn it off through Windows, it doesnt actually turn off: the screen ges black, but the HD leds still blink for a looong time. I have to turn it off manually, then. Sometimes it actually turns off, but turn itself on again after 1 second.
So if the D-Bracket sais its all good, then what is bad?
My System specs are
Athlon 64 Venice 3000
1 Gb Corsair DDR
Leadtek Geforce 6600GTQuote from: cyberoll on 19-April-06, 19:18:18
Its solved now. There was a short circuit. The rouded isolators were placed in the upside of the board, and they should have been under the board. I changed it and all the problems are gone.
Such a little thing... :D
What is a "rouded isolator" and where is it located. I would like to see if this will fix my problem. The same thing is happening to me.
Thanks
