Cant open links on my PDF files!

It sucks because I am loosing a lot of time trying to figure this out. I been doing this for the last 3 months. The files I am trying to read are for school and I am losing a lot of good material that I have to self forage through this links. Please help. I dont understand why adobe will do something like this to not be able to open links in the pdf files

They are not in the http://...etc  The links are embeded to the words. For example:
Spiral Dynamics is one example amongst several (note the 'see also' section
on this linked page) of a bio-psychological development
All of the links that are in the book I am trying to read are like this. None of them are in the http:// format!
thanks for your reply, I hope we can figure out how to fix this. I am going crazy..

  • When I click a link to a pdf file, I'm only presented with a save box,not a choice to just view the file. I have been able to view linked files in the past, but not anymore. I have to save the file to downloads then go to downloads and open it.

when selecting a link to a pdf file , I'm only given the choice to save it ..not view it ? How do I change that ..?

That depends on how the server sends the file.
If this is a MIME (content) type that is supported by other software then you can open the file automatically.
If the file is send with a generic content type like application/octet-stream or as Content-Disposition:attachment then you can only save the file.

I have a document made up of separate PDF files which reside in a folder and are linked to each other via hyperlinks. Each pdf file is set to open with bookmarks displayed, however if I link from one PDF file to another and use the "Previous View" button to navigate back to my starting point the bookmarks are replaced by "page thumbnails". Is there anyway to stop this from happening?

    Hi Pusman,
While setting up the links, if you choose to open the file in a new window then you won't face this issue, then you can simply switch to the previous file and bookmark view will remain as it is.
Does that helps with your query?

  • How to remove a link from a pdf file

I am reading a pdf file using preview. I is a freely available research article. While marking words to look them up in the dictionary I noticed on two of the 40+ pages, the curser had changed from the "mark text"-symbol to the hand symbol as one would expect when hovering over a link. When I click on the pdf page safari opens up and lead me to the publishers website offering distantly related articles to the one I am reading at the moment. When I open the exact same pdf file in adobe acrobat 11, no such behaviour can be observed. Is there an explanation for that, more importantly can I switch the link of?
    many thanks

    Archana,
Can you wrap your code in <code> tags (use square brackets rather than angled ones), as the forum software is interpretting the HTML tags, in other words we can't see what you mean ;)
In any case, there are a few different options (guessing at what your problem is, without seeing the actual data), you could use htf.escape_sc or replace, regexp_replace etc to substitute the values before you output them to your PDF.
    Hope this helps,
    John.

  • Linking button to PDF file with published Windows Executable

    Hello all,
I've been using Captivate 1 for years. I have always linked
buttons to PDF files. The only thing I really ever had to remember
was to take away the local directory address so where as only the
filename was left. When I burned to CD I would just leave
    everything top-level.
Well, for some reason now Captivate won't launch my pdf file
(and yes I put the ".pdf"). It launches my web browser looking for
a web address. Here's what I do. I create a new text or image
button, next I select "open url or file". Finally I select the file
through the browse window. I immediately take off the local
directory before the filename because everything is located
    top-level on the CD's I produce.
Please help, anyone. BTW I am experiencing the same thing on
Captivate 2. I'm afraid I'm doing something silly wrong since it's
been awhile. Thanks in advance .

    Hi Charles,
Does by any chance you have upgraded your Flash Player
recently? Flash Player 8 and above have restriction on not
    accessing the local files directly?
    thanks

  • How do you make a link in a .pdf file? (Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional)

    Dear Adobe Acrobat Forum,
I would like to add a link to my .pdf file.
Once clicked on, I would like the link to send the user to another place in the same .pdf file
or open a separate .pdf file.
I've tried to resolve this on my own by going to both Acrobat help section and the InDesign help section as well as Googling "Acrobat 8 link" or something similar.......but to no avail.
So, can you please tell me how I can add a link to a .pdf file?
I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.
I have been creating .pdf files using the File > Export feature in Adobe InDesign CS3 (for the Mac).
    Thanks!

Have you tried in Acrobat 8 to:
    Choose Link tool.
Then choose as shown on as on this Graphic
Then when clicking next you should be greeted with this:
Choose open a file or open a weblink depending upon what you want to do.
You try some of the other choices. once you select what to do save as a copy and try. If This one doesn't work try some of the other choices in the first graphic. other panes will open up similar to second graphic except there will be other choices.

  • File Open Issues - document library pdf file to open in new browser window

    Hi
I have a requirement to open the document library containing pdf file to open in new browser window. So far I have tried following steps but could not get it to work.
    1. Changing Document library advance setting to open the document in browser (have tried others as well).
    2. SharePoint web application setting changed as Permissive instead of Strict. Here the pdf file opens in browser but redirect from document library instead of new window(Also tried adding Target=”_blank” and no change).
    3. Executed the powershell script to adding MIME type to see if it works but no change.
    $webApp = Get-SPWebApplication http://SharePointSite
    If ($webApp.AllowedInlineDownloadedMimeTypes -notcontains "application/pdf")
Write-Host -ForegroundColor White "Adding PDF MIME Type..."
    $webApp.AllowedInlineDownloadedMimeTypes.Add("application/pdf")
    $webApp.Update()
Write-Host -ForegroundColor White "Added and saved."
    Else
Write-Host -ForegroundColor White "PDF MIME type is already added."
    4. Open the Doc library and modified ALLItems.aspx to add Target= “_blank”
    5. I have already tried solutions suggested in the link:

Appreciate if there are any working solution from any of you. Many Thanks

I found a solution which works only in the development. No idea when I compared, Browser MIME type is enabled, STRICT browser type is configured for web application. on the document library advance setting, default to open in new browser. Both configurations
are identical but I am able to open pdf file in new window in my developing using jquery script
http://blog.ithinksharepoint.com/2011/02/21/open-pdf-files-from-a-document-library-in-a-new-window/ but the same does not work on production server :(

  • Problem creating several image maps (linking to different pdf files) RoboHelp 8

    Hi,
I have a problem creating several image map hotspots (that link to different .pdf files), from the same image using RoboHelp 8 HTML (WebHelp project).
After compiling, the first image map hotspot created, opens the .pdf file correctly.  Unfortunately, when clicking on the other image hotspots, I get an error " Cannot find file...<file path>... Make sure path or Internet address is correct".
All the pdf documents are located in the same folder within the project.
    Can anyone help?

Have you added the target files as baggage?

  • Safari (Snow Leopard) will not link to website (pdf) files from within other pdf files

Meeting agendas (in pdf format) have 'web links' to other pdf files, but Safari says not enough info in the webaddress.  But it works O.K. in Windows Explorer.

    Open browser preferences
ex Safari>Preferences>Extentions   and un-enable any ext that mabe interferring , ex divX
or open Help> installed Plug-ins and remove Adobe Acrobat.
    if still a problem
    Quit Safari.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
A Finder window will open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open.
Launch Safari and test. Its settings will have reverted to what they were they first time you launched it. If it works as expected, recreate the settings and delete the item you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put the file you moved back where it was, overwriting the newer one created in its place.

  • Opening links in a PDF

When I try to open links in a pdf, a internet browser window opens instead of the word document(its a docx file).  Is there anyway I can change this to make it realize its not a website?
I am using adobe reader 11.0.02
    Thank you in advance!

I don't know why it is doing that; see also http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1177431

  • Link to another pdf file

    Hi all.
I am using the Acer Iconia W500 tablet with Android 3.0.
I have a big problem with links in a pdf file, which should open another pdf file.
Is this with Adobe Reader impossible or is there a solution?
I have the following folder structure:
         -folder A
              -pdf file 1
              -subfolder B
                   -pdf file 2
              -subfolder C
                   -pdf file 3
In pdf file 1 there are two links, which open pdf file 2 or pdf file 3. In pdf file 2 and pdf file 3 is a link, which opens pdf file 1 again.
With my notebook and Adobe Reader X there are no problems opening pdf files from another pdf file.
Thanks for reading my problem and hopefully for solving it.
    Fabian

    Hi Fabian,
The pdf file you are talking about is a Portfolio (earlier called a Package File)? Portfolio files are basically pdf files in which we can have sub-folders or any other files (pdf, or, non-pdf)?
If yes, then we do have good support for Portfolios in Adobe Reader X.
Would it possible for you to share the pdf file you are concerned about?
    Thanks,
    prakhar

  • Linking to another PDF file

Obviously in Acrobat you can setup links to another PDF file. And I understand you can do that in Designer but as I can see, the only way is to do it via a URL/browser. Importing a PDF into Designer doesn't preserve the link. Looked in the documentation but I didn't find anything so far. Is this where one would use subforms? I just want a button to open another PDF file in Reader basically.
    Thanks
    Jzach

The "Open File" action is limited in its ability to actually
kick off external applications. As a rule of thumb it is best used
to redirect the user to HTML documents - and of course, opening any
file can be problematic if the end-user's computer has no valid
"association" to the linked file-type in his/her machine's system
    registry.
For instance, if an AVI file is targeted, it will be a
crap-shoot what application will be used to display it (if any). On
one machine, Windows Media Player might be opened to play the AVI,
and on another, perhaps a DiVX player or maybe even Flash (though
    not likely).

Hi... I would like to purchase a Tablet Sony Xperia Z 2 10.1 (the last one of the Z series) and I was told that Adobe does not support Sony anymore.... I need to be able to open and read Adobe PDF files and I would like to know if this tablet can still use Flash Player...
Is there anyo who can help me with this? I asked in the shop and I was told "yes of course" , but when I contacted Sony directly I was advised to check with Adobe as apparently in the recent months Adobe and Sony haven't been getting along anymore...

You may be mixing up two entirely different Adobe products.
    1. Adobe Flash Player. Needed to view web pages designed with Flash. Not needed to view PDF files. Not available for Android (not just Sony).
    2. Adobe Reader. Reads PDF files. However, the Android can also read most PDF files without needing Adobe Reader.

  • Can I create a custom table of contents and link to other .pdf files based on responses to a form?

Hey Everyone! First post ever, so bear with me:
I'm trying to create a streamlined method to use a form  to let myself and others add information and select certain options to put together a custom table of contents. Basically, I would like to have a form with a series of text fill and single/multiple choice options that will automatically populate a table of contents based on the selections and will link to other .pdf files that are associated with the selections. I was hoping this would be possible with a form, but I'm relatively new to the function of the software as a whole and my research came up short. Any suggestions on how to start are more than welcome, and if I wasn't quite clear enough I would be happy to elaborate.
    Thanks for your time!

You would need to search for other PDF creation software that can accomplish what you desire.
There are many cheaper  PDF creation alternatives other than Adobe's Acrobat Pro software.
Also, try doing a web search under these terms to see if you can find an app/software/solution that may work for you.
