Canu2019t Change ServerName or DatabaseName At Runtime In Crystal Report. Why?
HI thereu2026 This is just a simple Winform(not ASP) with a Crystal Report Viewer control on it that was called by another simple WinForm. Iu2019m trying to simply change the Server Name for a Crystal Report at runtime and it will not let me. Hereu2019s the code below. The database is identical to my development server database. This should be easy to do as I did below. I use SQL Server 2005(SPK 2) and Visual Basic 2008. I use the Crystal Reports 2008 standalone designer(seperate program), not the older one in the VS IDE. When I run the code it accepts changes to the user name and password but ignores any change to the ServerName or DatabaseName. Why?

Yes, you have to simply loop through all the tables in the report and assign each one the same logon info and then reassign the report and refresh the report viewer. No need to use a .Net Dataset here. Eventhough I got the answer myself from studying the Crystal API reference thanks to all that answered! Hopefully this will help others. Imports CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine

    Private Sub CrystalReportForm1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
        Dim MyReport As New Clients 'Instance of report!!!
        Dim myLogonInfo As New CrystalDecisions.Shared.TableLogOnInfo
        Dim myTable As Table
        For Each myTable In MyReport.Database.Tables
            myLogonInfo = myTable.LogOnInfo
            myLogonInfo.ConnectionInfo.ServerName = " DATASERVER2"
            myLogonInfo.ConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = "CMSDATASQL"
            myLogonInfo.ConnectionInfo.UserID = "SQL_USER"
            myLogonInfo.ConnectionInfo.Password = "34567WERTD"
            myTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(myLogonInfo)
        Next myTable
        CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = MyReport
        CrystalReportViewer1.SelectionFormula = "{openclientsquery.lastname} like  'c*'"
        CrystalReportViewer1.Refresh()
    End Sub
End Class
PS - Hopefully, in the future Microsoft will improve(and document) its own report control and designer. Right now it's still crude and needs a lot more development to approach the usefulness that the Access Report Designer has. It's rediculous to depend on a third party reporting control(all business programs require reporting) when Visual Studio should have had/built one included from day one.

  • Dynamically change an image at runtime in Crystal Report

    Hello,
    I am using crystal report included in VS 2005 and want to display an image at runtime. I have tried using Picture control and OLE Object of crystal report, but did not get any success. I have googled for this and most of them are saying Right Click on Picture
    control->Format Object->Select Picture Tab->Click on X2 next to Graphic Location. But I do not found any Graphic location field in picture tab. Pl see the attached screen shot.
    Can anyone guide me how to load an image at runtime in crystal reports?
    I am using CrystalReport11 and VS2005. It's a VC++/MFC project.

    If you are using Crystal Report for Visual Studio, ask at http://forums.sdn.sap.com/forum.jspa?forumID=313

  • Changed number format in vs 2008 versus crystal report format

    I am using Crystal report designer  11.0.0.1.282  and I am able to see the numbers in the format I want . example is the year 2012,2013, etc.
    I don't want any decimal  point to be applied to this like 2013.00 because it is just the year and it should be 2013. when I ran the report in preview inside the designer  , everything looks fine. but when I ran the report from our client application, the year format comes as 2013.00
    In the Crystal report designer, I have checked the File menu /Options , when the Options dialog that opens up , I have selected Fields tab and have chosen the Number field and have selected the Style for the numbers through all the report to be -1123
    the report used to show up with correct format up until a couple of weeks ago, so I am not sure what may have caused this. I was hoping there might be a solution to this.
    I have attached how the year shows in the chart legend both in designer and from our client application (VS2008)
    greatly appreciate any help and if you could point me to right direction

    Your System properties may have changed. If the field is set to system it will use what ever your defualt system is set to. Change the field to use format:

  • Error:When adding RDC runtime library (Crystal report XI R2) to Lotus notes

    Background : We have reporting feature implemented in one of lotus notes application using crystal reports 6 (OCX) and as Crystal report is going to be upgraded to CR XI version in my organisation, we need to implement the same using RDC component available in crystal XI . we have installed Crytal report XI R2 - SP 6 version for testing the integration.
    we are  referring a document available on SAP web site(attached below) that illustrates the steps required to integrate the Crystal Reports®  Report Designer Component into a Lotus® Dominou2122 application.  http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/509b02de-a81e-2b10-f598-822b6d6f2024?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
    Steps which have been outlined for adding runtime library in lotus domino application is shown below:-
    1. In Domino Designer, add a Form to the application.
    2. In the programmeru2019s pane, go to the (Declarations) handler of the Form and enter:
       Dim App As Variant,    Dim Rep As Variant
    3. Select Create | Object and select the u201CControlu201D radio button in the u201CCreate Objectu201D dialog box that comes up. From the list of controls, select u201CCrystal Report Viewer Control.u201D This adds the control to the Form.
    4. Click on the control and select Edit | Properties. In the u201CAppletu201D properties dialog, select the u201CSize object to fit windowu201D radio button and then close the properties dialog.
    We are getting an error message while trying to add 'Crystal Report Viewer Control' control (illustated in Step 3 above) in the lotus notes form . Error message which we get is 'An error has occured while processing a request on an object'.
    Alternatively , we created the object of Crystal Report Viewer on lotus notes form by adding viewer object file (Crviewer.dll) from the file system  after selecting the u201CObject from a fileu201D radio button in the u201CCreate Objectu201D dialog box and added following code in the postopen event of lotus notes form .
    Set m_Viewer = Source.GetObject("Crystal Report Viewer Control")
    Set App = CreateObject("CrystalRuntime.Application")
    Set Rep = App.OpenReport(u201Cc:lotus
    otes
    ep.rptu201D)
    Set m_Viewer.ReportSource = Rep
    Again, when lotus notes form is opened , it gives error 'Variant does not contain object' at 'Set m_Viewer.ReportSource = Rep' .
    Can any one suggest us any workaround or if iit is not possible in CR XI R2 into a Lotus® Dominou2122 application. Also, can any one provide us sample code if CR 2008 version can be integatred with lotus notes.

    I believe, Lotus was never a "supported" development platform, though it did work - at one time or another. Eventually it did not and you are at that point. I think it was CR 10 where it started to be impossible to add the viewer to Lotus. This was never fixed and we never did find out if this was a Lotus thing or a CR thing.
    Re. CR 2008 and Lotus. The RDC has been retired in CR 2008, so no luck there either for you. The only SDKs available in CR 2008 are for .NET and Java.

  • Could i change the built in search functionality of crystal report?

    Hello,
    I want to change the search functionality available in crystal report. Now if i find some text or number it will highlight the first occurance of that text or number, i want it to change so that it will highlight all the occurances of that text or number in the whole report.
    Could i do that? if yes, then how? please tell me how to achieve my required functionlity.
    Thanks

    Maybe I am confused but I think I have a formula that does what you are in need of. I am conditionally formatting a description field by right clicking on the field and selecting format field. The I have the following formula set under "border tab"
    if "pcb" in ({F4101.IMDSC1})then crred
    else if "dialplate" in ({F4101.IMDSC1})
    then cryellow
    else crnocolor
    This highlights every line which contains my formula or search criteria.
    I hope this is what you was looking for.

  • Change Data Source for a lot of Crystal Report

    I have a lot of reports which use Visual FoxPro as datasource. We will mirgrate to MS SQL Server and change the names of tables. Is there any way to set data source to new table in new ODBC other than do it manually ? Please advice.
    Thanks.

    Hi Leo,
    If you use Business Objects Enterprise, then you can use a tool called 'Schedule Manager' to update the datasource of all your reports to SQL Server - at one go!
    If you don't then, well, it gets laborious and you'll have to get into every single report and use 'Set datasource location' within CR.

  • How to set values of formula fields during runtime in crystal reports

    Hello All,
    Could any one help in letting me know how to set the values of a formula in the runtime.
    I tried using the below systax in the formula field
    Assume that I have 2 formula fields
    1. format_count
    2. format_display
    my formula is like below:
    in the formula field format_count i have
    format_display=pagenumber
    when checking for errors its throwing error stating "stamement is expected"
    Could any one help in resolving this
    Thanks

    Hi Ranjeet,
    Whenever you assign values to a variable, you need to use :=
    Like this:
    numbervar x := pagenumber
    And what exactly are you trying to do anyway?

  • Insert OLE Object at runtime in a report (Crystal report 2008)

    Hello
    I need insert a WORD document at runtime into Crystal report 2008.
    Is it possible do it this using RAS SDK for .NET?
    Thank you

    Possible, but remember that only the 1st page of the word doc will be added - same as in the CR designer.

  • Change GUI Language in Crystal Reports XI

    How can I change the GUI language of a installed Crystal Reports XI? At the installation, I have choosen "English" but now the GUI is in German.
    As I found out, the GUI language depends on the regional settings in Windows. I have "Switzerland" as the default settings, so it seems the Crystal Reports sets the language to German. Is there a registry key or something else to change the language manually?
    KR
    Stephan

    Hi Stephan,
    When you install CR XI it should have the option to select all languages, I don't recall exact steps now, I don't have it installed any more.
    Try doing a Repair install in add/remove programs and select Custom to choose all the languages. It should then select your default local.
    CR 2008 now gives you the option in the Designer itself to set this option.
    You can also upgrade to CR XI R2 for free, use your XI Keycode to install it and be sure to select the languages you want to support.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 - ERROR when changing datasource

    Hi, I have a report that is connected to a test database that needs to have the datasource changed to the production database.
    The Crystal Report has 2 "on-demand" subreports that the datasource has been changed for as well.
    SQL 2000 Databases on 2 different servers (W2003) used the "Set Datasource Location" and followed steps listed previously in the forum.
    Databases have different names but all tables are same in both.
    Database Expert is showing all tables coming from new datasource BUT when report is run parameter prompt comes up, click ok
    Error message - "Failed to retrieve data from the database" - click OK
    Error message - "Invalid Argument provided"
    Does anyone have an ideas on how to track down the issues.
    Please let me know if you need any other information

    Ok answers below:-
    1. Crystal Reports 2008 Cersion 12.1.0.892
    2. Connecting via OLEDB
    3. Yes able to refresh newly created report without sub reports enclosed
    4. Didn't know that this could be done - this report was done for us by a consultant who doesn't know how to fix this issue and reckons there is a bug in Crystal
    5. Sub reports are accessed after main report is run (I think that means that they are linked)
    6. Not sure how to do this as am newbie to Crystal Reports and we are relying on the person that we contracted to write the reports to know what he is doing.
    Any help appreciated I will try to go into the sub report and unlink - think I have found out how to do this.
    Thanks for the help so far!!

  • Changing Connection String dynamically at runtime

    I am using the Crystal Report Viewer control in in a Visuall Studio 2008 C# project.  The reports are created inside of Visual Studio 2008, and will be running against an InterSystems Cache database.  I have to use an ODBC (RDO) connection and use a connection string.
    I have seen many examples of how to update the connection string at runtime if it is SQL server (or some flavor thereof), but nothing for an ODBC (RDO) connection to a NON-MSSQL database.
    The problem when I update the connection string for each of the tables in the report, the report will either not run and display a window -- tiled 'Datbase Login' -- that has the Server, Database, Username, and Password fields on the window, OR, it will run but not against the database that was specified at runtime (it uses the connection stored in the report).
    Code Sample #1 (This is using the connection string, and will cause a the "Database Login" window to be displayed - the first scenario from above)

  • How can I change the state of a runtime menu item programatically?

    Using LabView 6.1, I would like to change the state of the runtime menu item "Operate/Print at completion".
    The goal here is to print the VI front panel according to the operator choice (OK ->print, Cancel ->don't print)
    In a first release, I put a Stop function at the dialog output (activated by the cancel button) but this function stop the complete application and my idea where to stop only the VI in which the dialog is running.
    In a second release, I've tried to use the "Application
    control/Menu" but I receive every time an error:
    Error 88 occured at Cannot modify application menu item in the printtest.vi.
    Possible reasons: LabView, Runtime menu error...
    Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Re
    gards,
    phidu

    Instead of using the print at completion option, print the VI programatically if the user selects to print...open a reference to the VI you want to print and use an invoke node to print vi to printer.
    Alternatively create another VI with a layout optimized for printout, set it to print at completion and run and load the data into that VI if and only if the user OKs the print...

  • Crystal Report runtime error while changing Data Source Location

    Dear All
    We are using "Crystal reports for SAP Business one".The Crystal reports version is 12.1.
    We built a report in another database with another server.
    As we are importing the report in another database of another server,
    I am not able to change the Data Source location.
    When I am trying to change it,it gives Runtime error and closed automatically.
    How can i resolve and change the data source location?

    hi kambadasan,
    is your CR version the same from which you design the report and to the another server? also did you import your report directly to SBO without changing the data source first? in the case you should update first your Data Source in Crystal Report IDE before importing it to SBO.
    regards,

My .sql should contain the name of that parameter only as i want to get that parameter replaced by the schema name at runtime. Some other users are using the same .sql file and they have access to that specific schema only. i want to make the .sql file more general so that it can be used by everyone without altering it every time.Sorry, your requirement no longer makes sense.
    If people have to access a specific schema because they need the script for general use, then you will have to hard code the schema name into it.
    If the script is to prompt for the schema name and connect to that schema and then use that schema name inside the called sql script, then people would not be able to use it generically, as it would be reliant upon the schema name being passed in.
    It sounds as if you're trying to write one generic thing that needs to do two different tasks.
    Just have two scripts and make life simple.
