Canvas scrub problem!!

Hi I seem to be having a problem with my canvas scrub.. When I move the jog wheel forward I can hear the audio scrubbing but the video is still.. This also happens when I move the timeline in the sequence... Was fine yesterday.. Wonder if I hit something to make this happen? There is also a big black x in a white circle when I use the jog wheel!!

Help if you told us what your clip and sequence settings are but that's most likely where your problem lies; they are not precisely matched. Or you have imported a format your machine simply cannot handle without transcoding it first.

Scrubbing problems with external video turned on

I recently upgraded to Tiger and using FCP vers 4.5. When my external video is on and viewing on my NTSC monitor, I have a very irritating problem. Whenever I use the keyboard to play in reverse or scrub by holding down the J and K keys at the same time for slow play, the image stutters and drops frames. Also, the Viewer or Canvas display will also periodically black out for a second or two. When I scrub with the mouse, I don't see this problem. It's only when using the keyboard.
When I turn off external video, everything is fine. I've never had this problem in the past with my system. The only thing that's changed is Tiger and Quicktime 7 Pro. I have done all the upgrades and threw away all FCP preference files.
I'm stumped. Anyone else having the same problem?
By the way, video plays fine when in external video mode. Laid off a project last night, no issues or dropped frames.

Oh my goodness I'm having the same problem! Recently I upgraded to Quicktime 7.0.3 but did some Security Updates as well and thought I was up the creek. I'm on FCP 4.5, OS X 10.3.9 and noticed the same backwards stuttering. Thank you so much for putting your solution on there, I will try it first thing when I get to work tomorrow!

Final cut canvas video problem

i haven't done a video in several months(i don't think this has anything to do with the problem) started on one,, recorded some video on the camera i always use, captured it and drug onto the timeline,, but when i started to edit from the timeline, there is NO video on the canvas screen. when i scrub on the timeline, i hear the audio, but NO video on the canvas.
any suggestions?

The video is in the timeline, right? You can see the track there, can you? If so,
start by trashing your preferences.

Smart Objects...changing canvas size problem

When changing the canvas size of a smart object, the layer on the original document will distort visually since it doesn't update the size of the smart object.
Is there a solution to this, or an easy way to quickly update every instance of the smart object on the original doc?
To clarify: I know that you can change the dimensions of the smart object on the original doc and it'll fix it, my question is if there's a way to automatically have that happen and have the original doc smart objects respect your canvas size changes on the smart object doc.
Reproduce:
1) Draw a circle
2) Turn it into a smart object
3) Go into the smart object, change the canvas size by increasing the height of the canvas. The smart object should now have a circle with blank space above/below it.
4) Save the smart object
5) The circle on the original document will now be squished.

I do not know what you mean when you write the original document chages. A smart object layer has an embedded copy of an object. The original document is not touched. You can open the smart object layer embedded object in Photoshop by double clicking on the smart object icon in the layers palette smart object layer and change it size. And distort it f you wish. When you use Photoshop save. Photoshop will change the enbedded object in the smart object layer. You can also leave the embedded smaro object as is and change the smart object layer size and distort it using transform on the smart object layer itsself.
I think what you did was to open the smart object in photoshop change its canvas saze then save it. The updated smart object is realy round but you dont see that it is becaue it is being transformec ti fit the original documents canvas. If you do a Canvas size on the codument you will see the original docyment canvas size is not change and thet your now squaching a now changed taller object into a shorter canvas. With each Smart Obkect layer there is as associated transform.
No I was wrong I just tried that and it looks like the transform was not the problem as yo can see I dir a Ctrl+T so you can see the size of the smart object layer is now biger then the original document and is positioned centered canvas is still 300x300 white area in image

Audio scrubbing problem in Soundtrack Pro

Hi, new to this forum but not new to pro audio! I've been all round the houses trying to fix this one; hope somebody knows the answer.
The problem is that although FCP's audio works as expected through the AJA, Soundtrack Pro only outputs playback audio through it. Scrubbed audio outputs through the Mac's audio out and there doesn't seem to be anywhere to change it. With the way the edit suite's set up this means switching the monitoring selector just to hear scrubbing - not the best workflow arrangement!
The AJA device only seems to be recognised by Soundtrack Pro for video, not audio.
I'm using a Mac Pro 2 x 3 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with an AJA Io audio/video interface; OS is 10.5.8. I'm also using Final Cut Pro 7.01 and Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1
Anybody got any ideas?

I'm using a Kona 3 in a quad core and it works in all aspects of I/o.
16 tracks in and out and mixing and monitoring in stereo and surround. And yes, I have a proper surround monitoring setup.
I suspect it's the I/o box itself. Maybe, because its outboard it isn't setup to handle that kind of monitoring. Did you ask AJA?

Stacked canvas dispalying problem

hi am displaying multiple stacked canvas on a content canvas. i have a problem in displaying them even hiding the first canvas(B) am not able to display the second canvas(A) its still showing the first canvas(B).
am using show_view(A) to display the stacked view while i use hide_view(B) to hide the canvas B
almost both the stacked canvas have same fields in particular i kept the mirror fields on the stack B from stack A.
my requirement is to display stacked canvas A or B dynamically!!
can any one direct me with some gud solution.

Hi Madan,
You are using correct function to do so. But you may need to manipulate.
When you want to show canvas A or B, follow the mentioned steps:
If you want to hide B and show A
IF canvas b is visible then
hide_view(B);
show_view (A);
go_Item (item_on_cavans A)
END IF;
And vice versa.

Graph canvas size problem - missing rows

Hi all,
we have a simple horizontal bar graph based on a view, with just one total value pr. company showing.
Problem is, if we set the canvas size too a small value, e.g. 400x400, then instead of resizing bars down so that all rows are shown, the graph starts to omit rows at the end!
Even when enabling "Zoom and Scroll", we're still missing those rows.
Only way to make sure all rows are displayed is to increase canvas size to a large enough value. Problem is, the number of rows is dynamic - so "big enough" might change over time....
Is this a bug in the OBIEE graph component, or are we missing something here?

Photoshop redrawing canvas background problem

Hi,
I have a new MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6 and Photoshop CS4. I've experienced some strange graphics problems when rescaling the Photoshop window, specifically the grey canvas background becomes full of weird patterns. It makes me think its a video card problem, but it seems specific to Photoshop, and isnt solved by a restart, but then sometimes just sorts itself out.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Photoshop and the OS are uptodate, not sure about the card drivers, I presume they'd show up in software update if they were out of date?
I've turned of OpenGL in photoshop, its behaving itself at the moment, will post back if it starts again.

Canvas Component Problem

Hi
I am using canvas component and in order to refresh my page every time I am using show attribute in the root instead of creation Complete.
Thats working fine with all screens but in one Screen I am using canvas as the root and inside it I am using 4 canvas containers each of which has many combos.In this case its restoring the previous values.Its not refreshing.
Now I need to refresh the page And all the combo must display the prompt as Select a value.Though I have given the prompt attribute its not working.
Can Anyone Help Pls

Do you have the canvas component placed inside a ViewStack or else did you place the component within the main Application without including in the ViewStack container.
What about your other screens ...? You said for other screens show is working then where did you put those components...?
Try to post some sample code reproducing your problem.

Space bar vs scrubbing problem

not sure what the problem is. imported an after effects file directly into premiere CS4 pro. but the comp on the timeline. when i hit the space bar to play, it plays, though stuttering quite a bit. when i hit space bar again to stop or try to scrub timeline with mouse, you cannot see anything in monitor - it's like the comp disappears. then i stop doing this, hit space bar to play again, and you can see the comp playing in monitor again.
please advise.

How about some details?
Your computer hardware... the file/codec you are using... your project settings... is there a red line above the timeline... all those things that are needed for someone to do something other than make a guess

Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

Having Canvas Playback Problems

Hello,
I'm a professional user of Final Cut Express 4. I'm currently working on a video that is relatively simple. I have a LiveType title that crossfades into a series of interview clips with color correction filters on them. There is an mp3 file playing underneath all of this. This is no different than any video I've done before, however I cannot get more than 30 seconds of canvas playback without it getting choppy and then cutting out completely, even when rendered.. The footage is from the same camera and same SD card as before. The only thing that I can think has changed is that I have installed Adobe After Effects since completing my last video. However, I uninstalled it thinking it would help with the choppy playback. It did not. I tried lowering my rendering settings, but it still didn't work. Is there something I should be looking for?

I figured it out. I accidentally had a bunch of hue filters on one of the clips that was slowing it down. But I took your tip on AIFF. Thanks.

Stacked canvas dimentions problem

Why if i had used an inherited stacked canvas and tried 2 change the height and width of it ...
it doesn't change it remains with the same size,can any body answer me why it behaves like this...!?

am getting a compilation error says: identifier 'viewport_width' Must Be Declared I must apologize, I misread the Forms Help which lists "VIEWPORT HEIGHT" and "VIEWPORT WIDTH". What I failed to recognize was that there was no underscore "_" between the words. Therefore, these are Properties of the stacked canvas that can only be set through the property palette - not the SET_VIEW_PROPERTY built-in. Sorry! :8}

The difference is where the source of the referenced propertes (property class) exist. For example, if you subclass the property class from a source Form (such as a template.fmb or an Object Library.olb) then the set of properties are dependent on the source object (.fmb or .olb) and you have to ensure the source object is in the FORMS_PATH. For the record, it is "Best Practice" to subclass Property Classes from a common source so you can standardize and reuse common sets of properties (as well as other shared objects).
Vertically half of The content of the canvas wasn't seen the other half was blank gray ...!!! e.g. can't scroll horizontally to see the rest of it...!!! So it is cutting off some of the items on the stacked canvas? For example:

Canvas Update Problem

Apologies in advance if this is a really obvious error on my part.
I have a tree applet with a scrollpane, I populate the scrollpane with my canvas.
I am trying to dynamically show changes to the tree based on user interaction (i.e. add/remove folders).
What I am doing is creating new instance of the canvas and re-adding it to the scrollpane, every time there is a change however the changes aren't being drawn out?
Any help on this matter would gratefully received.

I do not think it is good idea to remove/add the Canvas. Since Canvas look provided with paint(Graphics) implementation it is much better to keep using the same instance of Canvas but make the changes paint(Graphics) implementation. However if you want to go with remove/add please call doLayout() and valdiate() against container you added your Canvas.

Canvas/playback problems

The canvas is playing back my newly captured footage really badly and not stopping when I press spacebar or press stop in the canvas. When I view the footage in QT it's fine but in the canvas it looks wierd, its kind of slow and jerky. Do I need to change the FPS or something?
Also, the audio is behind the video. so I need to move the audio tracks every time to match the video. Is there a simpler solution to this?

also make sure you have unlimited rt turned off if you don't have a fast computer sometimes that can cause the canvas to chug along cause it can't keep up with all the video thats going on on the screen. also if you are just doing rough cuts turn the quality of the canvas down for editing so it isn't as processor intensive.

JSplitPane JTabbedPane Canvas resize problem

I am using a JSplitPane to separate a tree and a JTabbedPane containing java.awt.Canvas based objects.
I have not been able to find a way to resize the split plane over the tabbed pane. I pretty sure this
is because the Canvas is heavyweight and the split pane lightweight, but I cannot swap out the canvas
for a JPanel (or other swing equivalent) due to performance requirements. Is there a way to allow the
split pane to resize over the heavyweight object?

I am using gl4java's GLAnimCanvas as the canvas based object in my application. Since
the Swing based gl4java object is not hardware accellerated, it is way to too slow for my application
(a 3D gui ).
