Capture database search string

Thanks to all who help,
I maintain a database search utility on our company Intranet that was developed using FrontPage (our only company standard development tool). The user enters a product code and initiates the search. When the results are found in the database, the original page reloads and the information about the product displays below the original. I have a "Print the results" button on the page that, at present, prints the entire page.
What I would like to be able to do is have the print button actually open another window that displays only the information that the user requested, so that they don't get my original page design (and all the unnecessary information) on their printout.
Would someone please help me to implement this change.
Thanks,
Bob

I don't know what you're talking about with back and front end of scripts, but if you think this is a Java-related question, then please post some Java code that you've tried to write to solve this problem, or some thoughts on what classes and methods might be used.
Also keep in mind that JavaScript is not Java and this forum is not relevant to JavaScript in any way.

  • Database search not working

    Hi all,
    I am new to Orcale SES. I have to search database using SES. I have created database source with the following details:
    Database Connection String,User ID,Password,View,Document Count,URL Prefix, Parse Attributes,
    Remove deleted documents,Attachment Link Authentication Type
    When I schedule crawler on database, log file shows following:

    Hi,
    I have given table name (TESTSES) in view parameter. Yes TESTSES table contains all the mandatory parameters.

  • Database search using Oracle SES

    Hi all..specially Luca,
    I am a new to oracle SES.I have to search my database through oracle SES from my ASP.NET
    pages.
    But before doing it from ASP.NET page , I just want to try serching from the SES tool itself.
    I tried to create Database source type as :
    Home > source > source type = database > create
    then i got a page where i wrote the database connection string , userid , password , and a query (select * from images)
    i clicked next n got another page which says step2 authorization ..
    here again i need to put databse connection string ..for which i m confuse what to put ..
    the entire connection string like "Data Source=atlas/orcl;User ID=yuntaa;Password=yuntaa" or "atlas/orcl" ..
    i put user ID and Password,there wer few more fields like
    Authorization Query,Single Record Query, Authorization User ID Format .i m not sure what to put in this fields,
    and clicked next...i got an error saying ...
    Oracle Secure Enterprise Search Error
    An error occurred while validating the plug-in parameters.
    now i m really confuse how to create database source and how it will search to my search string...how it will know which
    table to search...i mean search string may be audio,video,image or a doc ..according to the string it has execute different
    query to search in different table...
    Plz help me out a little to solve this issue...
    Warm regards and thanks
    Suraj

    Thanks a lot for the reply Raford...n sorry as my question are too long...
    In my project i need to search my database but i do not
    have any URL as i am displaying data straight from the database. The data's
    are audio,video or images which i have stored in database tables itself.
    so in my case the URL column will be empty which is a mandatory field.The URL column contains the Display URL for the document but I do not have any document outside my database.
    The way I am storing the data, is oracle SES posible ?. Most importantly do this will enhance
    the performance..or provide some extra information to the user regarding search...
    Actually what we are thinking is that when user will search and if the data is present in database we will display the data from the database using oracle SES
    or else if the data is not there in the database we will provide some links
    of other web site, something like google..
    Please give some thought on it and tell me whether this is possible using oracle SES...if yes then what should i put in URL column...if posible plz give me some suggestion how should i proceed
    You said If the data is in an Oracle database, it is easier to use the Table crawler. I tried
    to configure that with my table but showing an error in error log :
    EQG-30100: Internal error: java.sql.SQLException: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index:: 2,
    from: CrawlingThread.processPseudoURL() executing SQL BEGIN ?
    := 'http:/tds?id=24'||eq_util.tds_encode(1,?) ||eq_util.tds_encode(2,?)
    ||eq_util.tds_encode(3,?) ||eq_util.tds_encode(4,?) ||eq_util.tds_encode(5,?)
    ||eq_util.tds_encode(6,?) ||eq_util.tds_encode(7,?) ||eq_util.tds_encode(8,?);
    EXCEPTION when others then eq_err.raise; END;; for URL http:/tds?id=-1&k1=24&display_url=0
    EQG-30100: Internal error:
    no new documents collected
    also the crawl statistics is 0..
    also search result is empty..i m searching with the string which is in contenttitle
    column in table which i ve set through "table column mappings"...
    the steps i ve taken to set the table crawler is :
    selected source type as Table > provided source name , port number etc details > local table
    selected primary key column > select content column > create and customise > table column mappings
    Add another row(selected the contenttitle field) > apply > schedule > execute immediatlyWarm regards and Thanks

  • Search string-1 in string-2 gives wrong results.

    Hi,
    I am searching for the string 'COM' in the sentence
    below.
    I am getting the string positons of string "COM"
    as 1 and 16.
    It Should be 1 and 19.
    thanks
    sharath
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON
    DECLARE
    str VARCHAR2(200):='COM-1 Hello world COM-1 speaking';
    pos NUMBER ;
    ps NUMBER :=0 ;
    srch VARCHAR2(20) :='COM' ;
    BEGIN
    While( ps <= length(str))
    Loop
    pos := instr(str,srch);
    If pos > 0 then -- found string COM
    str := substr(str,pos + length(srch));
    dbms_output.put_line('COM found in pos ==> ' || pos );
    End If;
    ps := ps + 1;
    END LOOP;
    END;

    I believe the problem is that you are redefining the variable str within your loop. Once you find the first occurrence of "COM" in the string, you modify the string to remove that occurrence and then search again. The logic of your stored procedure is
    Loop 1:
    str = "COM-1 Hello world COM-1 speaking"
    - first occurrence of COM is at position 1
    Loop 2:
    str = "-1 Hello world COM-1 speaking"
    - first occurrence of COM is at position 16 in this new string
    Since you are removing the first three characters of the string when you call substr at the beginning of the second loop, you're looking for the position of "COM" in a slightly different string the second time around, hence the confusion.
    If you want to find the position in the original string, you'd want something like
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE findOccurrence( string IN varchar2, search IN varchar2, offset IN number)
    AS
      currentPosition NUMBER;
    BEGIN
      currentPosition := INSTR( string, search );
      IF( currentPosition > 0 )
      THEN
        dbms_output.put_line( 'Search string found at position ==> ' || to_char(currentPosition+offset));
        findOccurrence( substr( string, currentPosition+length(search) ),
                        search,
                        currentPosition+length(search)+offset-1 );
      END IF;
    END;
    scott@jcave > exec findOccurrence( 'COM COM COM', 'COM', 0 );
    Search string found at position ==> 1
    Search string found at position ==> 5
    Search string found at position ==> 9
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.Justin

  • Parse multilingual search string

    I'm using Oracle Text to search a multilingual database. The languages include English & Spanish (= white-space delimited) and Chinese (= NON-white-space delimited).
    Suppose a user enters the following search string (quotes are mine): "word1 word2 word3"
    Then I want to search something like this (thanks to Barbara Boehmer!):
    "SELECT id, title, short_description FROM books
    WHERE CONTAINS (dummy, 'word1 AND word2 AND word3') > 0;"
    If the string is in English, Spanish, German..., no problem.
    But does anyone know how I could parse the search string so that Chinese, Japanese, etc. will be handled properly too? In that case, the words consist of one or more characters (instead of letters) and they are NOT separated by spaces.
    I've been searching the web and can't figure this out.

    I misunderstood the problem. If you want to parse the search string and put spaces between the tokens, then perhaps you could use ctx_doc.policy_tokens on the search string, something like below.
    BEGIN
      CTX_DDL.CREATE_PREFERENCE
        ('searchstring_lexer',
         'WORLD_LEXER');
      CTX_DDL.CREATE_POLICY
        (policy_name => 'searchstring_policy',
         lexer       => 'searchstring_lexer');
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION parse_searchstring
      (p_searchstring IN VARCHAR2)
      RETURN VARCHAR2
    AS
      rtab            CTX_DOC.TOKEN_TAB;
      v_searchstring  VARCHAR2 (200);
    BEGIN
      CTX_DOC.POLICY_TOKENS
        ('searchstring_policy',
         p_searchstring,
         rtab);
      FOR i IN 1 .. rtab.COUNT LOOP
        v_searchstring := v_searchstring || rtab(i).token || ' ';
      END LOOP;
      RETURN RTRIM (v_searchstring);
    END parse_searchstring;
    SELECT parse_searchstring ('英语 翻译') FROM DUAL

  • Database Searching Algorithms

    Hi..
    I have to do some research about database searching algorithms.
    Would someone here help me and give a list of that algorithms and which one is the best.
    What is the name of this algorithms which when u type in a key such "a" then it display a list of information that started with "a".

    I guess I have more time than I thought... :)
    Here is a full working example all in one class...

  • Stopwords within a search string

    Hi,
    I've found a funny behaviour for the combination of
    non-searchable characters and non-searchable words (stopwords):
    1.) I definea hyphen '-' as a non-searchable character
    (printjoins explicitly defined without '-')
    2.) I index one document containing 'oracle'.
    3.) I search for '{oracle}' and get one hit.
    4.) I search for '{to-oracle}' and get no hits.
    Hint: 'to' is a stopword.
    So far so good.
    But if a switch to a very large database containing 100,000 documents
    the behaviour changes:
    1.) I again define '-' as a non-searchable character
    (printjoins explicitly defined without '-')
    2.) I index 100,000 documents containing 'oracle'.
    3.) I search for '{oracle}' and get 100,000 hits.
    4.) I search for '{to-oracle}' and get 100,000 hits (instead of none).
    Hint: 'to' is again a stopword.
    I got the impression that due to the number of documents (or whatever)
    suddenly an optimizer decides to parse the search string. Since '-' is
    a non-searchable character '{to-oracle}' is read '{to oracle}'; since
    'to' is a stopword '{to oracle}' is read {oracle}. If the index is too
    small the optimizer doesn't care because the search will be fast anyway
    and the search string needs not to be analyzed before the search is executed.
    This is just a theory; has anybody similar experiences?
    I use 8.1.7.2.0 and the same preferences (including stoplists and lexer)
    for both the small and the large database.

    Hello Moti,
    <b>If you want to search for a phrase you have to put double quotes around.</b>
    If you want to use a boolean operator, the OR is the default operator, so
    backup restore <=> backup OR restore.
    So if you want an and operator, you have to use backup && restore, or backup AND restore.
    About the '&' char, I dont think there is any problem because '&' is not a part of the query syntax.
    According to sap search help :
    "There are a number of special characters that are part of the query syntax. The current list special characters are
    + - && || ! ( ) { } [ ] ^ " ~ * ? : \
    To escape these character use the \ before the character. For example to search for (1+1):2 use the query:
    \(1\+1\)\:2"
    Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Julien.

  • How to make search string for the searched text containing single quote?

    Hi all,
    When trying to search some Contacts from Eloqua, I have to make a search string which would list out some specified EmailAddress.
    Unfortunately, I meet several emails who have single quote in their spelling.
    I got 'invalid format' error when both using them directly and making single quote twice.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Biao

    When testing, the following examples:
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search=emailAddress=bm'[email protected]
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search='emailAddress=bm'[email protected]'
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search=emailAddress="bm'[email protected]"
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search="emailAddress=bm'[email protected]"
    All return:
      "elements":
        "type":"Contact",
        "id":"1421620",
        "createdAt":"1419611518",
        "depth":"minimal",
        "name":"bm'[email protected]",
        "updatedAt":"1419611519",
        "emailAddress":"bm'[email protected]"
      "page":1,
      "pageSize":1000,
      "total":1
    Likewise, the following returns nothing:
    GET /Api/rest/1.0/data/contacts?search=emailAddress='bm'[email protected]'
    Hopefully this helps,

  • Bank statement search string for posting rule 2

    Hello,
    I created a search string (also activated) for clearing sub legder account. Folowing are the combinations i tried:
    1) ###(.| )#######
    2) (^| )###(.| )#######( |$)
    3) ###.#######
    Open document reference text on header normally carries  3digits followed by a dot and then seven digits. For example:
    123.1234567.  I also want to include 123 1234567 (sometimes it appears like this in bank statement) but the system should intrepret it as 123.1234567.
    I think above string acheived this when i did a TEST (button) next mapping screen on the same screen.
    I uploaded the bank statement and then went to another config where you do simulation for a bank statement (uploaded). There the system checks for first three digits only and the document found coloumn is blank (because it checks only first three digits and there are too many probable customers in partner's field).
    Posting rule - algorithm is  no 21
    search string - algorithm is no 21
    mapping field in search string - i tried with bland and without blank (###.#######) it is all same.
    How to make the system check 3+7 digits with dot? and why it checking only first three digits. Can some help?

    Hi,
    I also would be interested to know this. If anybody can give a step by step analysis, it would be highly appreciated.

  • Highlight search string in a pl/sql report

    Hi all,
    I followed the example of QBE by Scott Spendolini. I got it working. But I am trying to add the highlight search string functionality, in the report created. The report is created from a dynamic pl/sql query. Can you give me any ideas or an example? Thank you for your time in advance,
    Rgds,
    Suma.

    Hi Suma,
    Your Search button runs a process called "RUN_REPORT". Presumably, this process picks up the values from the tabular form to construct the new SQL statement.
    Given that you don't have a normal report definition - ie one that you can use the Highlight Words option - the only other possibility is to adjust the SQL query results.
    Let's assume that you have in your RUN_REPORT process a variable called vJOB that holds the JOB value from your QBE grid. Your SQL statement could then be adjusted to something like:
    SELECT EMPNO,
    ENAME,
    '&lt;span style="color:red"&gt;' || JOB || '&lt;/span&gt;',
    etc
    FROM EMPTABLE
    WHERE JOB = vJOB;
    Obviously, without seeing your code, I can not say exactly how it should be constructed to highlight the word(s), but the above should give you an idea of what you need to do. If you're still not sure, can you please paste into this thread the RUN_REPORT code.
    Regards
    Andy

  • Two finger swipe replaces google search string

    MBP with Safari 6.0 experiencing this problem.  Another user was experiencing the issue here:
    http://www.ehmac.ca/mac-iphone-ipad-ipod-help-troubleshooting/99937-safari-two-f inger-swipe-bug-replaces-google-search-string-os-10-7-3-a.html
    I don't know where the bug reports are to follow up on it and I haven't seen any patches for it.  Any advice?  Specifically, I'd like to know how to file the bug (in case I find another) and to follow up on any existing issues.
    TIA,
    Scott

    Is there no place to track the status of the report or see any other outstanding issues so I don't bother filing duplicates?
    Never heard of such a function here. This method gets feedback to the people who count but it is completely behind the scenes. Part of Apple's "cards close to the chest" method of doing pretty much everything. You should have been looking at the "don't expect a response" screen after you hit the submit button on your bug report.
    If there is something that needs clarification, I suspect they will use e-mail to ask for it, but don't stay home waiting!
    Have you read Walter Isaacson's  biography of Steve Jobs? Things like this took on a new--if not satisfying--perspective for me after reading it. So far, it has persisted in their corporate culture in the after-Steve era..

  • I run Dev 6i on Windows 2008 R2 64-bit,the forms are working fine after connection to the database but the reports continue to request for username, password and database connection string every time i try to open a report.

    I receive REP-0501: Unable to connect to specified database. I run developer 6i application on windows 2008 r2. I have applied the nn60.dll and nnb60.dll files to the \BIN directory. The forms are working fine. The reports will only display after the correct user id (username, password and database connection string) is supplied. This is happening to all attempts to open already complied form. Pls, help.

    If you are connecting to an Oracle 11g database, remember that by default the passwords are case sensitive. To disable that, run
    ALTER SYSTEM SET SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON = FALSE;

  • OBIEE 11g install fails on step 7 (database connect string)

    I've currently spent 2 days trying to install OBIEE 11g on two machines (independently). This first is a Windows XP SP3 test PC running 4GB RAM, whilst the second is a Windows 2003 virtual server with 3GB RAM. The Database is Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0) on AIX 5.3.
    The DBA has successfully run the RCU on the Database and the schemas needed for OBIEE have been created. The BIPLATFORM schema has also been granted DBA privileges.
    Now I've tried to run both the simple and the Enterprise install for OBIEE 11g, but it always fails at the same step (step 7 of 13: Database details). I have selected the following:
    Database Type: Oracle Database
    Connect String: hostname:port:instance, where hostname is the full server path eg xxxxx.uk.com and instance name is FFADEV01
    BIPLATFORM Schema Username: As per username defined in RCU
    BIPLATFORM Schema Password: As per password entered in RCU
    If i change the connection string to FFADEV01.WORLD i get a 08031 error, whereas I am normally getting an 08035 error. The annoying thing is that I can connect to the schema using RapidSQL and the usernames and passwords as created in the RCU.
    Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

    How was he able to install the BIPlATFORM schema using RCU on AIX? I thought RCU was only on Linux and Window platforms? I am about to install OBIEE 11.1.1.5 on AIX with a Oracle 10g DB but from what I read I wont be able to create the needed OBIEE schemas for the install because I won't be able to use the RCU on AIX. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Use of special characters in Search String

    What is the use of special charaters like
    in the search string in the Find & Replace of ABAP editor ?
    I want to search for all strings starting with V which are followed by alphabets like
    VA
    VB...
    If I use V*, it also gives me results like
    V/R...
    Whether it is possible to specify such a condition?

    Hi,
    While giving ur search in FIND & REPLACE,
    use the match case or match whole word only..
    Then u will get search results only where the exact case of that variable is used..
    As per my knowledge there is no signification of special characters ,- : ; in the search string..
    Hope this helps...
    Cheers,
    Simha.

  • Search Strings

    HI
    We are using Payment Order and through EBS we clear the vendor open items as after payment run system generate the payment order number but vendor open items remain open. For Bank Transfer BTC is NTRF. But for all the check which are also enchashed at counter bank is also using BTC NTRF. So we have two posting rules for the same BTC. For payment order clearing we are using Algoirtham 029. which is assigned in EBS global setting. To solve above we define the search strings but system is not changing the posting rule as check number coming immediately after NTRF1013.
    Our Check Number is exactly 4 characters. So we define search string like below
    Maping empy
    In search strings use we entered CC, HB, AC then algoritham999 as 029 is not exits then search string target field Posting rule and enter posting rule for check then create another entry in which target field is Algoritham and select algoritham 011 for check.
    Now our file for check is coming like 61:1201230123D10000,00NTRF1013       but system not read this record.
    Just for testing we make another line and like 61:1201230123D10000,00NTRF1013       //1013 and system able to change the Posting rule. No idea why its is behaving like this way
    Please help
    Farhan Qaiser

    Dear Farhan,
    Please create the search string in below way.
    (^ |#| *)NTRF####( *|$) with remaining parameters you have entered, please make sure that you are entering global interpretation algo in search string also.
    Or please check any other text is there to identify check transaction and create a search string for that.
