Capture JPEG from MPEG2 video file

Hello friends,
I want to extract a single JPEG image from a mpeg2 video file. The user input will be the number of seconds since the start of video when the image should be captured
e.g. if the user input is 5, the program should capture the frame which comes after 5 seconds of playing the video file and convert it into a jpeg.
Please note that I do not actually want to play the video in a player but do this task of seeking into the video file programatically
Thanks

Hi,
I have a jpeg movie file 60 mins long and a text file tell me five time-lines for breaking the movie. For example, break the movie at 10:21, 16:05
The final output should be five small jpeg movie files. Each file contains a 90 sec (30 sec before the break time and 60 sec after the break time).
Do you know any java library (jar) contain the library that can help me on programming this? Any existing source code? Any SDK for a movie editor can do that?
Please help.
Thanks
Kenny

You can also use the 3 finger method of COMMAND+SHIFT+4, then drag across what you want to copy from the image. That will show up on your desktop, which then you can edit using Photoshop, if you want too.
You can then change the file format from a PNG to either a .JPG or TIFF or even a Photoshop image.
Make sure, you have stopped the playback, to what you want to save as a still.
Either method works, to make a still image from video.

  • How do I compress a mpeg2 video file in Premiere CS5.5?

    Hi there,
I need to compress a mpeg2 video file from a little over 4GB to be less than 2GB in Premiere CS 5.5, is this possible using media encoder?
If so, what are the steps?
Thanks in advance for your help!

If you can tell us your intentions it will be easier to suggest a solution. What is the intended purpose of this new file? If for computer viewing, then outputting at 720x480 might be an issue since most players are going to show that file as 4:3 rather than the intended 16:9, since it would be "anamorphic widescreen".
You might need to export at 854x480 using square pixels (1.0 PAR) to get proper display on playback. But again, tell us your goals and we can narrow the suggestions

  • IPhone 4S keeps playing audio from a video file that is no longer on my phone.

If I'm listening to music and try to change tracks or pause with the earbud buttons the music fades out and starts playing audio from a video file. It will only play about 3-4 seconds and then stop. This also will happen when double clicking the home button to try and change tracks. When I do that the track skipping buttons won't work and there's no title for the short bit of audio that plays. The only way to get music to start playing again is to go into music and press play again. The music I had been listening to is sitting there paused. The audio from the mystery video file still sometimes plays even when you're in music and the only way you would know is the little play icon at the top right part of the screen. I have removed every video off of my phone and it still does it. This is really frustrating.

Sounds like a bad battery.  You'll need to bring the phone into Apple for evaluation.
I'm sure you've been using your phone as designed and properly backing up your data, so you should have minimal, if any data loss should the phone need to be replaced.

  • Downloading audio from a video file from iTunes?

I have a 40G 4th Gen click wheel iPod (no color or video). Is there a way to download just the audio from a video file that I have in iTunes?

I use Steve's method all of the time, and edit the Audio output in Adobe Audition. You will want to Export/Share to PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit, and keep that format both going and coming back into PrE. Remember that you will be working with an Audio file, that is the full (or almost) Duration of the Timeline. When you Import that edited Audio file, give the program a few moments to Conform that newly Imported PCM/WAV for editing. I suggest not touching the computer, until Conforming has completed 100%, and the little progress bar in the lower-right of the GUI has disappeared. If the Imported Audio file is short, and your computer is fast, you might not even see that progress bar, but the Conforming has taken place, just the same.
I like to keep the original Audio on its Audio Track(s), and just use Window>Audio Mixer to Mute that/those Track(s), leaving only my edited Audio on its own Track un-Muted. This is a "fail-safe," just in case I change my mind along the way, and wish to revert to the original Audio for some reason. It is much easier to Mute-Unmute, than to gather up all of that original Audio again.
    Good luck, and happy editing,
    Hunt

  • Can I  rip the audio from a video file?

I have a video file with a band singing on it. I have an ipod nano, so I can't import the video with the singing onto my ipod. Is there anyway to rip the audio from the video file and put that onto my ipod?
    -Thanks

Open the video in Quicktime Player.
    Select the Export menu item.
Change the Export type to "Sound to Wave".
Save the WAV file somewhere with the default settings.
Load the WAV file into iTunes and use iTunes to convert it to AAC for the Nano.

  • Re: Capture the Image from a video file

Thanks a lot. But when I view the program in the thread, it seems that it needs to some program code is to play the video first and then the image can be captured. Is it possible that even I don't write the code for playing the video first and just write the captured code so that can still capture the image by using Java only from the exists video file. Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot.You can get away without playing the video by seeking to the frame you want using FramePositioningControl ( [example here|http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/Seek.html] )and then capturing the frame using FrameGrabbingControl (similar to the code I posted). But still you would have to load the video file, create the player using url, realize the player, perhaps prefetch it (all in the link I have given above) then you are ready to seek to particular frame and capture it. But now you don't need to actually start the player so that video/audio is visible/audible.
    Thanks!

  • Creating stills (jpeg) from DV video

    Hi there,
I have just finished creating my iMovie but now I would like to capture a still image (ie jpeg) from it. I intend to use this image in iWeb (seperate to the finished video) and also in other applications.
I understand that I can capture a still frame and export it as a Quicktime file but is there any way to convert it into a jpeg (or similar) so I can use it as a picture?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    How about a screen capture?
Command-Shift-4 will turn your cursor into "cross-hairs". Drag it across your image and a copy (.png format) will be made on your Desktop. Use Preview to convert the .png to .jpg format.

  • How to take a picture from a video file

Is there a way to take a picture of video clip from the web?  I am trying to pull a pic of a video file, a single frame. Is there an app, or a really easy way to crop and save a photo to my library?

Pause the video where you want the clip then use shift+command+4 to get a cross hair selector and drag that across the part of the screen you want to capture, it will be saved as Screenshot_date_time to your Desktop

  • How to sync captured JPEG to original video: Are there some Develop settings that won't transfer?

I'm starting with the corrected JPEG and then highlighting the original video so they are both selected, but the JPEG settings are not applied to the video when I Sync Settings -- things like color, sharpening, and noise reduction.

SInce I don't see how to delete my question, I'll answer it.
My first syncs were from Quick Develop. After I made more adjustments in Develop I forgot to add them to the sync list. But, now that I'm doing it over, I see that anytime I have a video included  in the set to sync, noise reduction, sharpening, and other settings aren't available (grayed out). Which says to me: if the sdjustments aren't available when a video is open in Quick Development, then they can't be made.
It's nice that we can get good-lucking captured JPEG frames, but I thought the whole idea was supposed to be a work-around, where further adjustments COULD be made to videos by syncing to the JPEGS. As this was one of the main reasons I upgraded to LR4 immediately (because I had a pending video project), I'm quite disappointed to find LR4 is still so limited in its video processing capabilities!

  • Recording does not capture sound from a Video

    Hi,
I am creating a full screen recording and part of the
recording is opening a video file (WMV file) but after the
recording when I play-back the file I've notice that the sound that
coming from the video that was opened was not recorded only the
video itself no sound eventhough my speaker is already loud enough.
What do you think is the problem? Thanks.
    Eric

    Hi Eric
I don't believe Captivate can capture that kind of audio. But
    how about a workaround?
Head over to the link below:
    http://www.applian.com/sound-recorder
Download and install the FreeCorder application. (It's free!)
Then record the audio separately and just add it to your Captivate
    project.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do I stop iTunes from duplicating video files?

For some reason unknown to me, iTunes duplicates the video files when they are added to the library.
For music, when I add these to the library, the files stay on the external drive, and they are listed in the library.
However, I now moved my video files to an extrnal drive, but when I want to add them back into my library, it wants to copy all of them (the full file) from the external drive to my itunes folder.  I moved them off of the computer hard drive because they take up too much space.  I don't want them here, but I do want them in the library so I can select and sync them.
How do I add these videos to my itunes library, but keep the actual files on the extrnal drive?

Turn off the option "Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" under Edit > Preferences > Advanced.

  • Capturing live from a video mixer

We video our church services and want to make weekly DVDs of them. We have been using Final Cut Express with mixed success, but are about ready to switch to iMovie HD for several reasons.
The question is, can we capture live video from the video mixer (mixing two cameras and one computer to a single signal) to our hard drive using iMovie HD? If so, how.
    Many thanks!
    Pastor Ron Heffield (macfiveo)

First of all, if you're shooting either normal (4x3) DV or 'widescreen' DV, you'll have to select the appropriate format when you start a New Project. (..See items 6 and 7, and the accompanying pics, in my post here..)
So when you slide the little onscreen selector from the "scissors" icon to the "camcorder" icon, and then click on the camcorder icon itself to choose the name of your mixer it may show "DV-VCR" or some other device name, as it's unlikely to know the exact name of your mixer. If no name is showing, and the iMovie screen says "No Camera Connected", just quit from iMovie and then restart iMovie.
You should then see the live feed, and then just click on 'Import'.
Alternatively, instead of importing with iMovie, you might try downloading and using BTV. You can then edit that captured material with iMovie.
[..P.S: I don't think BTV, or BTV Pro, is a "universal" application, so it should work OK with your PowerPC Mac(s), but maybe not with an Intel-based Mac..]
