Captured clips automatically broken into smaller ones

When I import a clip and save it, and then go to finder to watch was was saved, it is broken up into many smaller clips. Why does this happen? Before it starts to record, I give it a specific title and location, record what I need, and then hit "done". It saves the clip. But when I open it, it is chopped into multiple clips. = (

How can I know which of those errors it is, if any?
Usually it is just "hit or miss" trial and error testing. I have one drive that has never worked for captures as it will not maintain a constant speed. And, although I have had the drive analyzed and reported to the manufacturer that the drive was defective, the manufacturer refused to honor their warranty and so I have never purchased and drive from them but used the drive to temporary copy of content which it can handle. Another drive as a "weak" sector that will pass most write tests but usually won't capture a movie about 12 minutes into the disk when newly formatted but will capture correctly from that point onward. For instance, if you are capturing to an external drive and have a spare drive hand, try switching to the alternate drive as see if you have the same problem. If the problem occurs to one drive but not another, then it is likely the drive. If you re-use old tapes for recoding, try a new one instead and see if it has the same problem. (I normally keep the tape as the archive and so don't normally re-use them.) Basically, you just try to eliminate possibilities as your can.
I am using a brand new minDV tape, new imovie and imac, good camera.
I would try to eliminate the application as being the cause of the problem first. Try importing into iMovie '06 or using Vidi (free) instead. If one or more other applications work, then simply use them to "capture" your content and then import the captured files into iMovie '08.
I went to preferences and cahnged where it says "clicking in events browser selects 4.os.
This option merely allows a user selected, fixed duration of content to be selected from an event clip when mouse-clicked. It has nothing to do with imports.
A short 2-3 minute clip shoes up as 7-8 smaller clips in my iMovie folder, and 10 different squares in the iMovie timeline. What's going on?
As was already stated, iMovie '08 is seeing the camcorder content as separate or interrupted files as it is being imported and and stores them as extra files. You can always treat them as separate files and move them into your project separately or you can sequence them as a single file using either QT Pro ($30) or MPEG Streamclip (free) or you can find the source of the problem (if you can) and eliminate it.

  • Count number for a list, which is broken into smaller list

    Could someone please tell me how to how count status correctly?
    I have list with a large size and it is broken into a group of smaller lists. I want to show the status when each list is going through the function getNextToSend(). For example, the size of the large list is 105, and it is broken into size 20 for each group. The getNextToSend() method is called 6 times. The first 5 times with 20 list each and the last group size is 5. The simple version of the code is blew. How can I get int generate3 in System.out.println("generate3 is: " + generate3); printed as 1,2.....105. What I got now is it counts from 1 - 20, then it count 1-20. again.
    Thanks,
    Katie
    public class Counter{
      private Vector list;
      public HttpSession session;
      private int count = 0;
      public Counter(Vector list, HttpServletRequest request) {
        this.list = list;
        this.session = request.getSession();
    private synchronized Profile getNextlToSend(){
         if( this.list.size()==0){
              return null;
       this.count++;
       int generate = Add(this.count++);
       session.setAttribute("number" , Integer.toString(generate));
       return (Profile)this.list.remove(0);
    private int Add(int generate2)
    { int generate3 =+ generate2 ;
       System.out.println("generate3 is: " + generate3);
       return generate3;

    Here is what happens when use static or non-static:
    Using static: if only one user uses the program (use
    java & jsp), it works fine. But when multi users use
    the program, the counter get mess, one user sees
    other user's count number.
    Using non-static: the counter repeates itself. 1,
    2....20, then again 1,2..20.That's why you pass the starting index to the counter in the constructor. If I want it to count starting at 60 then I pass that value (60) to the constructor and we assign it to the internal count. You would then modify the code that uses the Counter to pass this value somehow.
        public Counter(Vector list, HttpServletRequest request, int count) {
            this.list = list;
            this.session = request.getSession();
            this.count = count;
        }When you're breaking up the larger list you'd have to pass the current index to the Counter you create for each sublist. So for elements 0-19 you'd pass it either 0 or use the other constructor. For elements 20-39 you'd pass it a value of 20 to indicate it should start counting at 20.

  • On Capture, Clips are broken up

    I'm capturing from an HV30, 30p framerate, my clips get butchered into multiple smaller clips, even from the same take. Can anyone help me here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

    That dang HDV codec. Doesn't matter what frame rate or resolution. If you capture HDV into FCP, its gonna end up being all busted up. My research tells me it doesn't have much to do with inconsistent timecodes. The problem is with the intense GOP processing of the HDV codec. So intense, it interrupts the capture stream. If your post workflow is able to be adjusted, I'd suggest bringing the clips in using Apple's intermediate codec. It will still have some breaks, but not nearly as many as the HDV, and i find it quite nice to work with. And while we are on the subject, with FCP 6.0.3, there is a bug that won't let me capture my JVC footage using the HDV codec at all. So be careful on your upgrades.
    I've also heard of people bringing HDV in using another platform, like premiere, with no interruptions, then transferring into FCP.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sub Dividing BIG Library into Small Ones..Scared to erase.

    I have a single 3tb Library after updating to 10.1
    Im trying to now sort into smaller libraries.... Iv created new ones and MOVED Events and Projects into these libraries.
    ( I TICKED ON ...  Move Proxy and Optimized data.)
    Its still saying that the original Library is close to 3tb.?
    Im scared to erase this in case its the originall files....
    Ant thoughts.? much appreicated.
    ROB

    It is probably there, but you are right to try before you erase stuff!
    Close the big library, and use FCP X with only the new libraries open, and make sure everything is there.
    As a side note: optimized media is usually what uses most drive space; often you don't need it, and you almost certainly don't need to have both optimized and proxy media at the same time. In your situation, I would have chosen NOT to move (or copy) the optimized and proxy. It can be recreated when - and if - needed.

  • Dividing long files into smaller ones

    I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 12 on a windows 8 PC. I've been trying to transfer old VHS tapes to several DVDs. My real problem is separating the large contiguous video files into several smaller files to be arranged on several dvds. How do I do that? I know how to cut the videos into several clips, but not files. The original VHS tapes have 3-4 hours on each tape so that doesn't directly translate to available DVD space.

    MacGyver82dan
    Just in case note, you cannot import one Premiere Elements project file (.prel) into another.
    So if you already have several project files, each with its own group of files and want to combine them into one grand project for a DVD (DVD-VIDEO or AVCHD), then you are going to have to export the contents of each project prel and import the exports into one grand project.
    The export from a given project.prel can be for the entire Timeline or for selected portions of it. But the only way out of the project is via export. In this situation the export settings for the individual project files should be consistent with the settings for the grand project which will generate the end product.
    To export a segment of a Timeline content within one of these project files, two essentials
    a. the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar must be set to span the segment for export
    and
    b. the option "Share Work Area Bar Only" in the export settings must have a check mark next to it.
    When your Premiere Elements is running on a Windows computer, there is an opportunity for a copy/paste insert between projects.
    Please review the details of that if that sounds of interest.

  • Why is premiere creating one really big clip instead of many smaller ones when I am trying to create multicam source sequences

    Ok I am trying to create multicam clips from a shoot.   I have 198 clips from two to three cameras and an audio source.   I have created multicam clips in the past by simply putting them all into one bin, selecting all, right click, Create multicam source sequence, and then it processes them and creates multicam clips for me to use to edit.
    I am doing that process now to only have PP make one really big clip instead of a bunch of little ones.   Help!

    And the other thing I think of is that you opened up the multicamera sequence as a New Sequence From Clip, instead of Open in Timeline.
    That would give you one long flat sequence, but 198 panels if you opened it in your multicamera monitor

  • Dividing an enormous library into smaller ones

    My iTunes library is 650GB and growing. (all my own CDs but going the modern route). I think it's beginning to be a problem when loading as a shared library and also with iPhone's SimplifyMedia gathering it's information.
    I'm thinking of separating out to genre specific individual libraries. I can call up a specific genre; opera, for example - but then what do I do to make that a separate library?
    Another useful answer might be: is it detrimental in other ways, other than time to load, to maintain one library that large? (these are Apple Lossless quality)
    much appreciation in advance. Thanks.

    If you need everything to be sequenced as a single video, you
    can load the video using netStream, set the buffer time, and allow
    Flash to stream the video. You "could" place 2 loader components on
    the stage with instance names of cpLoader1 and cpLoader2, have the
    first part of the video load into cpLoader1 while making
    cpLoader2._visible=false. After the first part of the video has
    completely loaded into Flash, you can begin the loading of the 2nd
    part of the video into cpLoader2. Since it's invisible right now,
    nothing will show. Use script to determine when playback on the
    first video is complete, make cpLoader2._visible=true, then start
    playing video 2 while making cpLoader1._visible=false. After video
    2 has completely loaded, begin loading the 3rd part of the video
    into cpLoader1, and so on. By doing this, you may experience a
    little jump in between the end of a video and the beginning of
    another, but this really can't be helped because you are relying on
    Flash to seamlessly end and begin videos within 1 frame.
    Search in Flash's help files or look online for more on
    netStream.

  • How to create a pdf file where big (spread) images are tiled into small ones?

    Hi,
    How do I create such (as in subject) file? I read on the net that people compain about such issue sometime occur in their export. I've to confess, I'm no expert in publishing and my friend help with creation of presentation file and I want to emulate this option as a sort of security measure, to discourage people from extracting images from my file.

    While I haven't exactly managed to find the answer to my question, I've found a workaround that gives me the look that I want.
    Instead of adding the 'parchment' background in Adobe Acrobat, I already add the background (as a Watermark) in the original Word 2010.  Although I think the images still get flattened, they get flattened into the parchment background so it doesn't actually matter.
    Solved now!

  • How to split an array (*not String*) into smaller arrays?

    Hello,
    let's say you have an array of bytes whith length (for example) 5000B. Now you want to split this array into smaller ones, for example 1500B. Then you will have 3 arrays of 1500B and another one of 500B. What I try to do then is the following:
    pointer = 0;
    size = source.length; // For example, size = 5000
    maxsize = 1500;
    while ((size - pointer) > maxsize) {
       byte[] dest = new byte[maxsize];
       System.arraycopy(src, pointer, dest, pointer, maxsize);  // <--- Errors here!
       pointer += maxsize;
       // Do some stuff here with the dest array
    }There's no errors at compile time. But at runtime, the first iteration everything works OK (the 1500 first bytes are copied to the dest array). However, in the second iteration, the java interpreter claims:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException
            at java.lang.System.arraycopy(Native Method)And I don't know what I'm doing bad. I guess there's a stupid question I can't see by myself... Help wanted, please!

    > System.arraycopy(src, pointer, dest, pointer, maxsize);should be
    System.arraycopy(src, pointer, dest, 0, maxsize);Since you're copying to the first position in the destination array.

  • How To Automatically Split A Large Clip Into Smaller Clips

    I captured several one-hour tapes with an older version of Windows Movie Maker.
    They are AVI files.
    I'd like to work with the footage when I purchase Premiere Pro CS5.5 or CS6.
    Each tape is composed of several starts and stops of the record button, so lots of individual clips inside of the hour-long captured footage.
    In Premiere Pro CS 5.5, is there a way to automatically split a large clip into smaller clips at the points where I started and stopped the camera?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Flyingfish,
    I cannot tell you that.
    Historically, with "consumer" CODEC's, PrE often gets native support, before PrPro.
    However, with "professional" CODEC's, such as RED, PrPro has those, but PrE will likely never get them. There are some pro CODEC's, that PrPro does have, that PrE is missing, but I do not have a list.
    Good luck, and wish that I had more info for you.

  • How does one print a huge image broken down into small sections?

    I have an image that is 20x20  and I want to print it on sections of my 13x19 transparencys. So I want this big image to be printed on two pages so that when I put the two together it equals my whole image. Thank you for your time.

  • Camcorder download does not automatically split into individual clips

    I downloaded four DV tapes recorded on my Canon ZR40 (seven years old) DV camcorder.
    When downloading two of the four tapes, no individual clips were created; I got one big clip. On the other two tapes, they were broken down into scenes normally.
    Am I doing something wrong? (Timecode checkmark is selected)
    Can you instruct PRE to automatically break one large clip into individual scenes once it is already on the disk? How?
    Thanks

    I always use DVdate by Glagla to capture my DV clips. The clips can be named according to shooting time and date, giving two advantages:
    1. Clips from several tapes will sort by shooting time in PE media panel.
    2. Shooting time and date is visible within PE.
    If it works on your tapes forget about capturing with PE.

  • How to Turn Long DV video into Smaller Clips to Edit

    Hi everyone, I've googled and fiddled around for hours trying to figure out how to splice up my rather long DV file (converted over from a home wedding DVD) to begin editting. I've tried creating markers and then subclipping - but that doesn't seem to work. Nothing happens. Is there an easy way to do this?
    How I've been doing it:
    Create new project. Then import the DV file. There appears in the browser the 'sequence1' and then the DV file. I grab it into the viewer and then drag it also into the timeline. However, I get a red bar, so I render it. After this, the the canvas displays the timeline video but the viewer video is completely separate. They still play the same DV but not simultaneously. I don't know how to go about clipping this large file so that I can edit each scene separately. How do I splice this long segment into smaller clips that show up in my browser for editting?
    Thank you so much for your help!!

    Well... I'd suggest you either reconvert that file to a dv codec .mov file, or start again with the dvd file conversion.
    You've got to forget everything you knew about imovie. FCP and imovie are built on completely different paradigms. Final cut is a non-destructive editor. No matter WHAT you do in FCP, the actual media clip remains unchanged, just like your father's face a week after you tell him you wrecked the family car.
    After you've got your correct .mov file, import it into fcp. Open it in the viewer. Play down until you find the first part you want to use. Press "I" for an in point, play down until you want it to end, then press "O" for out. Then press command U, or go to the modify menu and select Make Subclip.
    You'll get a little jagged media icon in your browser window. It makes good sense to name it something more than what fcp names it., so you'll be able to find it again.
    I personally don't like to work with subclips. Usually I'll capture in logical chunks. But you can't do that with your one long file. What I do instead of subclipping is to add my select shots into a sequence. Then I'll duplicate the sequence and start working with that- rearranging, deleting etc, until I'm happy.
    Hope this is useful.
