Capturing IE file dialog event when downloading file via servlet outstream?

Hi, I've got a situation that it seems many people have run into, but none have solved. Or, at least, no one has posted a solution yet...
I'm writing a file to a client's machine via an output stream retrieved from the HttpServletResponse. Once I begin writing the file, IE pops up a dialog box with Open/Save/Cancel buttons.
I need to be able to capture the event that occurs when a user presses a button on this dialog. (Specifically, the "Cancel" event.) I know that the IE browser is interacting with the servlet output stream, because it blocks until a button is pushed.
I would assume that pressing "Cancel" breaks the connection with the output stream, and therefore cause an IOException if the output stream is referenced again. But that doesn't appear to be the case.
If anyone has ANY solution for this, please let me know. I've been beating my head against this for 2 days now.

There is no way to do this. The data is sent to the client and the connection is closed. Only time you would receive a IOException is if the network connection went down, or the OutputStream.close() was called while you were writing.
You might think about using a Signed Applet and have it do file IO to the client. You could design the UI to have a cancel button also. At lest then you can ensure when and if the file was transfered.

Open File dialog window when setting the value of a path type input argument in a VI call

Hi,
I am new to TestStand (running 4.0) and I want to create a sequence of VIs to turn on, setup and measure a device. One of my VIs sends a configuration file to my device. An input argument to this VI is the path of the config file. I would like to make it simple to modify this path when setting up the sequence by popping up the File Open dialog window and choose my file. Is this possible? I do not want to manually change the file during execution, just to have multiple calls of one VI, each call opening a different file according to the path given to it during the setup.
So far I have only succeeded in manually entering the absolute path each time I add this step. What makes it even more annoying is the fact that LabVIEW interprets the path with the escape codes, rendering the path unusable. Manually adding a 2nd backslash at each '\' occurence adds another step to the process. I tried both String and Path type of inputs, and the SearchandReplace() or ToUpper() (trying to bypass the escape codes) functions in TestStand don't seem to help m.

If you want to create a series of easy to configure step types so others can develop sequence files easily, you could use custom step types. When you create a custom step type you implement your own configuration dialog. Since you have control over what controls you expose in your configuration dialog, you can design it so the desired path is selected using a open file dialog. Refer to chapter 13 of the TestStand reference manual for more information about custom step types.
If you do not want to create a custom step type but you still want to give access to your sequence developers to pre-configured steps, you can use templates. A step template is a snapshot of a step that you can reuse later. Let's assume that instead of asking your users to edit the step to enter the desired path, you create several step templates with different pre-configured paths and based on their applications requirements they could use the appropriate template. Refer to the NI TestStand Help for more information about the Templates list on the Insertion Palette.

Make few columns of Excel file read only when downloaded

Hi Experts,
Is there any way we can set few of the columns in excel sheet as read only when downloaded from SAP.
We have requirement where a program will generate a report and download it into an excel file on desktop. When the file is downloaded, two of its columns should be non editable.
I know complete sheet of excel can be protected using OLE, can we protect few columns also using OLE?

Either there's no "Open or save as"-Popup, when downloading files (although it's set in preferences) or nothing happens when I click "save as". Please help me. I'm using Iceweasel 7.0.

In my preferences I have enabled:
- Show the downloads window when downloading a file
- Always ask me where to save files

When downloading files the file name changes name?

When I download files from yahoo email account the file name changes from actual name to securedownlad.doc. Why is this happening and how do I stop it? Is it an email client issue?
Example:
Original file name in email to download is called GeorgiaTechstinks.doc
when downloaded the dl box pops up and file name has changed to securedownload.doc.
I have to go and manually change file name back to GeorgiaTechstinks.doc

if it is a presentation file download,you have to append the data into the table before the data is filled
and if it is in App.server download,you have to wcan write the strings before transferring the actual data.

Is there any way of choosing different locations when downloading a file with Safari. I do not mean the desktop or a fixed folder which is in Preferences, i mean, that Safari will ask you where i would like to download the specific file.
Any ideas?

You would need to Control-click on the download line and choose the location you want to save it to from the contextual menu.

Disk full error when download files f. music store w.itunes6

Hi I have my volume mounted over afp 64gb used 56 free and when i download songs from music store it says disk full.
This only happens since itunes6
It works seamless when downloading to local drive.
Any workaround for this nice new feature??

I don't understand it either, and I didn't study the problem at all after I got it working. I've read accounts of people experiencing this with varying amounts of space available, so I'm pretty sure it isn't directly related to the exact amount leftover (maybe it has to be above a threshold for the problem to occur at all...). Also, 200GB, while a nice even number in decimal form, isn't anything special in two's complement binary.
I'll assume that you are using the most current version of iTunes (7.0.2 I believe), so this confirms that the problem has not been repaired since I experienced it (7.0). So it is a lingering bug. I did experience the same oddness where I could download podcasts, but it was failing with videos. At the time I assumed it had to do with some arbitrary limit, and that the podcasts were small enough to remain under it. Now, I think it has to do with some state that is stuck in iTunes, and gets reset when something happens with the volume's filesystem.
Anyway, if following the above linked advice doesn't help in your situation, I'm at a loss for what else to try. I guess rebuilding your library may be worth a try. On a few occasions I've had to run "consolidate library". You could try that (if you are using the option to organize your files). It won't damage any of your settings.
On your last point, absolutely correct. Sorry about that, but that's my point of view.

High CPU usage when downloading Files

Hi there,
i noticed somethign strage when I download file off the internet or intranet. As soon as my download speed surpasses 1MB/s the CPU usage increases. To be exact the process kernel_task.
For example:
2,5 MB/s -> ~30%
10 MB/s -> ~60-70%
10+ MB/s -> ~80%
This is really annoying and I have now clue how to fix this. The Harddrive is a SAMSUNG HM320JI with a Journaled HFS+ partition. No Virus Scanner or anything. Also just reinstalled Snow Leopard yesterday.
Hope someone can give me some useful information how to fix this.

could it have something to do with the write speed/ cache/ram? On a "slow" disk, or one that is nearly full or one that is partitioned, it will take a great deal more ram and cache to "digest" the faster download and write it onto disk. I tend to do downloads to a separate drive. Have you got one? and can you repeat the high CPU usage when downloading / saving to the external drive? I note your drive might have 5,400 rpm, with "just" 8mB cache and 320 GB (quite a few SATA's have 7,200 rpm and 32 mB cache).
NB: If anything, I found SL more efficient, especially on my 4 year old Macbook, which is running much faster and has got more responsive after installation of (full version of) SL.

Horrible slow down, only when downloading files??

I am getting terrible slowdown and the dreaded spinning wheel on my iMac, but only when I am downloading files using a web browser.
I have tried Safari, Opera, and firefox and the problem still remains. It only seems to happen when Im downloading more than one file. I have reinstalled Leopard, repaired permissions etc.
Im at wits end, because Ive tried everything. It takes about 10 mins after all downloads have been cancelled for the mac to start running properly, during this time it takes an age to do anything, open a new window or application, type in text, even clicking on a dock icon.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

How full is your hard drive? It sounds like it could be pretty full and if you have less than 20% or so free space available it will eventually start slowing down.

Firefox renames files to "copy" when downloading. We have such proplems with our internal site, other browsers have not such problems.

When downloading files in Safari - they are deleted - with the message "contained virus" - whatever site I download from - even my own files from online storage sites. Very irritating. Any suggestions?

When I download file sin Safari they are deleted automatically. The message I get is: "deleted because it contained a virus".
How do I solve this?
I have uninstalled and installed Safari a couple of times - to no avail.
I have no trouble in other navigators.

Freeze and Strange HD sounds when downloading files in safari & firefox?

Ok. So I just had my hard drive replaced for the 2nd time on my laptop. I just got it back and ran and installed all software updates except for pages and keynote. When I go to download files in both browsers, i get the spinning wheel of death, the computer locks up (the seconds in the clock stop) and the strangest part, the hard drive starts making this chattering sound. This is the only time this happens - when i download files. What gives? Is this happening to anyone else? Is it a bug in 10.4.10?
As far as the hard drive failures, I shut my computer down before i transport it. I baby my mac. I don't get this.

Hello,Please help me i had an update the other day.when i downloaded it ,it basically stuffed my whole itunes program.I am unable to access anything in relation to my itunes.I have uninstalled itunes several times with no joy.And always comes up missing files can't install.cant reinstall this great program and i am missing playing all of my music videos and music.Thankyou in this matter.I have windows vista home premium.

When I go to install itunes+quicktime it says "A newer version of quicktime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of quicktime is installed". Even though quicktime is not installed on my computer because I had uninstalled it. When I've tried to download quicktime by itself. There's a box that pop up's wanting the quicktime.msi install package or a alternate path. I found 2 quicktime.msi. One is from '08 version 7.4.5 the other from '10 version 7.6.9. When I've tried to repair the 7.6.9 it says "this action is only valid for products that are currently installed".
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25 2010. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?
