Capturing text from an InputFile component

I am succesfully using an InputFile component and can process the file using fileUploaded(ValueChangeEvent event) in a backing bean.
Is it possible to grab the contents of the screen field.
e.g. if I browse and return C:\Java\List.txt to the InputFile box, can I somehow capture the path and filename to a String field?
Regards
Jon L.

you can assign event.getNewValue( ) to a UploadedFile variant :uf
and then use uf.getFileName( ) ........
btw:
can you give me some help about making ValueChangeEvent can work?

  • using a BufferedReader object to capture text from a JTextField?

    Please i need some help with this.
    I was using the following line to get the data from the keyboard:
    BufferedReader en =new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
    But now i changed to get the data from an applet, where the user would type the info i need into a JTextField. How do I create a BufferedReader that contains the string typed by the user?
    I know how to capture the event and everything, my problem is : i dont know how to set the value of my variable "en" with the text typed by the user in the JTextField.
    Thanks a lot.

    You might want to think about your design and figure out if you really need a BufferedReader to get the text from a text box, or whether a BufferedReader was just something you had to do on the way to getting a string from the console.
    If you really need a BufferedReader (e.g. because the contents of the text box might be several lines and you need those lines one at a time) thennew BufferedReader(new StringReader(jtf.getText()))

  • Issue with Getting the file path from InputFile component

    Hi,
    One of our requirement is like below:
    I am working on ADF 11g (latest release R1) page. User will select the file and when he/she clicks on the Save button we need to store the file path in the database.
    In the database file_path is varchar2(300). We need to store just the file path. I am using InputFile component but filepath is not getting inserted.
    This is really urgent. It would be really appreciate if anyone can guide me on this.
    Thanks
    MC

    Hi Mahesh,
    I have manage to store the file path from the InputFile component in Jdev 11g. I found the file upload script from this forum and manage to alter it so that i could save the file path to the database. But my problem is to retrieve it back to view as a document. Hope this will help you :)
    This is an example of what I have manage to save to my DB :
    (CLOB) //192.168.238.53/c$/Research/Docs/0906160744/EyeCandyLog.txt
    In my form, I save the file path first before I update the other fields. My code is something like this :
    public void uploadFile(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
    // Add event code here...
    InputStream in;
    FileOutputStream out;
    if(tanda == 0){
    try {
    // final Context context = getInitialContext();
    RS01Proposal rS01Proposal = (RS01Proposal)new InitialContext().lookup("Phase2-RS01Proposal#sr.model.RS01Proposal");
    id = rS01Proposal.dptProposalid();
    tanda = tanda + 1;
    System.out.println("tanda"+ tanda);
    } catch (Exception ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace();
    System.out.println("id"+id);
    proposal = id.substring(6);
    System.out.println("proposal"+proposal);
    UploadedFile file = (UploadedFile)valueChangeEvent.getNewValue();
    String fileUploadLoc = "//192.168.238.53/c$/Research/Docs/"+id+"/";//The place where file will saved

    from one program.
    Pls give helpful code .
    Thanks & Regards

    hi
    check this code
    Hi,
    declare the paramters like:
    To fetch Long Text lines for READ_TEXT function module
    DATA:BEGIN OF dt_lines OCCURS 0.
    INCLUDE STRUCTURE tline. " Long Text
    DATA:END OF dt_lines.
    Variable declarations for Read_TEXT function module
    DATA : dl_name TYPE thead-tdname, " Object Name
    dl_lan TYPE thead-tdspras. " Language
    Constants
    CONSTANTS:
    Object ID for Long Text of Sales Item Text
    c_best TYPE thead-tdid value 'Z026', ID
    c_object TYPE thead-tdobject . " Object
    Object will be VBBK, and the Object name will be the concatenation of Sales order and Item No(for Item texts) and only Sales order for Header texts.
    Language will be default sy-Langu.
    In the loop of Sales orders call this fun module and use by passing all the above 4 paramters ID,OBJECT,NAME and LANG.
    You double click on that text
    GOTO -> header you will know the all above paramters.
    READ_TEXT
    READ_TEXT provides a text for the application program in the specified work areas.
    The function module reads the desired text from the text file, the text memory, or the archive. You must fully specify the text using OBJECT, NAME, ID, and LANGUAGE. An internal work area can hold only one text; therefore, generic specifications are not allowed with these options.
    After successful reading, the system places header information and text lines into the work areas specified with HEADER and LINES.
    If a reference text is used, SAPscript automatically processes the reference chain and provides the text lines found in the text at the end of the chain. If an error occurs, the system leaves the function module and triggers the exception REFERENCE_CHECK.
    Function call:
    CALL FUNCTION 'READ_TEXT'
    EXPORTING CLIENT = SY-MANDT
    OBJECT = ?...
    NAME = ?...
    ID = ?...
    LANGUAGE = ?...
    ARCHIVE_HANDLE = 0
    IMPORTING HEADER =
    TABLES LINES = ?...
    EXCEPTIONS ID =
    LANGUAGE =
    NAME =
    NOT_FOUND =
    OBJECT =
    REFERENCE_CHECK =
    WRONG_ACCESS_TO_ARCHIVE =
    Export parameters:
    CLIENT
    Specify the client under which the text is stored. If you omit this parameter, the system uses the current client as default.
    Reference field: SY-MANDT
    Default value: SY-MANDT
    OBJECT
    Enter the name of the text object to which the text is allocated. Table TTXOB contains the valid objects.
    Reference field: THEAD-TDOBJECT
    NAME
    Enter the name of the text module. The name may be up to 70 characters long. Its internal structure depends on the text object used.
    Reference field: THEAD-TDNAME
    ID
    Enter the text ID of the text module. Table TTXID contains the valid text IDs, depending on the text object.
    Reference field: THEAD-TDID
    LANGUAGE
    Enter the language key of the text module. The system accepts only languages that are defined in table T002.
    Reference field: THEAD-TDSPRAS
    ARCHIVE_HANDLE
    If you want to read the text from the archive, you must enter a handle here. The system uses it to access the archive. You can create the handle using the function module ACHIVE_OPEN_FOR_READ.
    The value '0' indicates that you do not want to read the text from the archive.
    Reference field: SY-TABIX
    Default value: 0
    Import parameters:
    HEADER
    If the system finds the desired text, it returns the text header in this parameter.
    Structure: THEAD
    Table parameters:
    LINES
    The table contains all text lines that belong to the text read.
    Structure: TLINE
    Exceptions:
    ID
    The text ID specified in the parameter ID does not exist in table TTXID. It must be defined there together with the object of the text module.
    LANGUAGE
    The parameter LANGUAGE contains a language key that does not exist in table T002.
    NAME
    The parameter NAME contains the name of a text module that does not correspond to the SAPscript conventions.
    Possible errors:
    The field contains only blanks.
    The field contains the invalid characters ‘*’ or ‘,’.
    OBJECT
    The parameter OBJECT contains the name of a text object that does not exist in table TTXOB.
    NOT_FOUND
    The system did not find the specified text module.
    REFERENCE_CHECK
    The text module to be read has no text lines of its own but refers to the lines of another text module. This reference chain can include several levels. For the current text, the chain is interrupted, that is, one of the text modules referred to in the chain no longer exists.
    WRONG_ACCESS_ TO_ARCHIVE
    The exception WRONG_ACCESS_TO_ARCHIVE is triggered if an archive is accessed using an incorrect or non-existing archive handle or an incorrect mode (that is, read if the archive is open for writing or vice versa).

  • Problem while displaying popup message while using inputfile component

    Hi
    I am using JDEV 11.1.1.2.0, using ADF i developed and application
    in my page i have a input file component, from which i am taking a csv file and reading it through valuechangeevent of inputfile component. I have used myfaces.trinidad-UploadedFile to get the selected file and read it using inputstream.
    I have put some validation check (validation check is done while reading the file using valuechangeevent of the inputfile component), while reading the file and incase i receive any error (validation mismatch), the reading of file stops ... and before doing that i used to display error message using below method:-
    public String ValidationCheck(String attrname, String attrvalue, int rownumber) {
    String msg="Validation error found in "+attrname+" with value "+attrvalue+" of row "+rownumber+" in the file. Please correct the file and retry/";
    FacesContext ctx = getFacesContext();
    FacesMessage fm = new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR, msg, "");
    ctx.addMessage(null,fm);
    return null;
    i have used the same method to display message in other places where its showing correctly but fails in inputfile component.
    Please help me out how can display messages from inputfile component??
    Thanks

  • How can I get path from af: inputFile or a uploadedFile

    Hi, there,
    I am getting error messages while sending attachment.
    I firstly tired getting the attachment from <af:inputFile> and attach it to the email. It failed. Then I put the file name directly into my code, still choose the same file from the <af:inputFile>, it failed again. However, from the code you can see, I can get system out println to print the file name, even the file content.
    I realized that I might need the file path, but I don't konw how I do get the path, should I write code in the backing bean of uploadedFile or in the send() in the Application Module ? How can I get the path?
    any advice is welcome and thank you very much!
    The system.out.println result is
    08/05/09 11:56:38 2javax.activation.FileDataSource@1674b36

    08/05/09 11:56:38 2.2New Text Document.txt
    But the error message still says :
    nested exception is:
    class javax.mail.MessagingException: IOException while sending message;
    nested exception is:
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: New Text Document.txt (The system cannot find the file specified)
    Here is my code:
    ViewObject issueView = getIssueView1();
    Row x = issueView.getCurrentRow();
    String fileName = "New Text Document.txt";
    System.out.println("1 " + fileName);
    System.out.println("1.5 " + x.getAttribute("attachmentName"));
    // msg.setText(body);
    MimeBodyPart mbp1 = new MimeBodyPart();
    mbp1.setText(body);
    Multipart mp = new MimeMultipart();
    mp.addBodyPart(mbp1);
    // String attachmentName = (String)x.getAttribute("attachmentName");
    //if (attachmentName != null) {
    MimeBodyPart mbp2 = new MimeBodyPart();
    DataSource source = new FileDataSource(fileName);
    System.out.println("2" + source);
    System.out.println("2.1 " + x.getAttribute("attachment"));
    mbp2.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(source));
    //mbp2.setFileName(source.getName());
    mbp2.setFileName(fileName);
    System.out.println("2.2" + fileName);
    mp.addBodyPart(mbp2);
    msg.setContent(mp);
    // send the message!
    getDBTransaction().commit();
    Transport.send(msg);
    System.out.println("\nMail was sent successfully.");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Error: " + e.getMessage());
    }

    I wish you and others like you would say what you are trying to do, not how you are trying to do it. That would save those who would like to help the trouble of figuring it out. However, I'm going to make a guess at what you are doing. Tell me if I'm right.
    You are writing a page that lets a user construct an e-mail message. I assume that the page has fields like: addressee, subject, and message. It also has a field, defined as an <af:inputFile> component for getting a file to be added as an attachment to the e-mail.
    You will want to look at forum posts and tutorials about how to upload a file. You will see that the "value" attribute of an <af:inputFile> will normally contain EL referencing a property of a backing bean which has the UploadedFile class. This class has methods for getting the filename, MIME content type, and an InputStream containing the data in the uploaded file. These pieces of information are all you need to add an attachment to an e-mail. You don't need the file's path, which is a good thing, since that information is not available to you.
    I've never used Javamail, so I can't tell you exactly how to use it, but I do understand the basics of sending e-mail. What you are going to do is create a multi-part message. The first part will be the message itself. Subsequent parts are the attachments. Each attachment can have it's filename and MIME content type set. Then you read the file through it's InputStream and write it to the message content. If the file contains binary data, you will need to pass it through a filter that will encode it to the Base64 format - which represents your data as 7 bit bytes.
    You will NOT be using the database connection or anything from the data controls to send an e-mail, unless you also need to save a copy to the database. The connection that is needed for e-mail is a connection to an SMTP service. Ask your e-mail administrator for some help with this.
    You MIGHT want to write most of this code in your Model project as a business component. Then your backing bean would probably just pass the fields as parameters.

  • Delete upload button in the inputFile component

    Hi Team,
    I implemented File upload machanism in ADF via the inputFile component. As per my requirement I dont need upload button in that.
    Is there any way to delete upload button from this File upload meachanism??

    Wild Guess.
    There is this code in your form:
    <af:form usesUpload="true"/>Try making it to false.
    Or else,
    There is a commandButton which is used for Uploading the file. Check the code with the following.
    <af:commandButton text="#{res['srfileupload.uploadbutton']}"
                      action="#{backing_SRFileUpload.UploadButton_action}"

  • Absolute Path issue with af:inputFile component

    Hi All,
    I am using an input file component and selecting a file from location "C:/temp.xml".In the code, I am trying to get the absolute path of the file selected and since the input type of this component is "UploadedFile", I have created a variable SourceFile of type "UploadedFile" this is what I am doing to get the path:
    <af:inputFile label="Source File" id="if1"
    value="#{viewScope.UpdateMetadataBb.sourceFile}"
    autoSubmit="true" required="true"
    showRequired="true"/>
    In the Bean:
    UploadedFile source = this.getSourceFile();
    File sourceFile = new File(source.getFilename());
    String path = sourceFile.getAbsolutePath();
    Now when I print the "path" it returns something like "C:/users/Swathi/appdata/roaming/..../text.xml" instead of directly giving "C:/temp.xml", Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Swathi Patnam

    Hi Timo,
    As you said the InputFile component writes the file in the temporary directory but in my case it is not able to write it in the temp directory.
    I am using Jdeveloper11.1.1.5 and i have created an application and deployed on the SOA Server.Now when i try to get the file, it gives the file not found exception and it shows the path as :- javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: javax.xml.ws.WebServiceException: java.io.FileNotFoundException: D:/Oracle/Middleware/UserProjects/Domains/base_domain/abc.TIFF.
    I have implemented the same application and deployed on the integrated weblogic server and it is working fine but as i have deployed on the SOA Server then it is not able to write the file at the particular location.
    Is there any extra configuration which needs to be done while using the InputFile component on the managed server ??
    Even i have started the SOA Server with the admin rights but no help..
    Even i have used this parameter in web.xml file to store the file in another location but no help :-
    <context-param>
    <description>Directory to store temporary files</description>
    <param-name>org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.UPLOAD_TEMP_DIR</param-name>
    <param-value>C:/tmp/</param-value>
    </context-param>
    Please suggest!!!

  • How to use formatted text in a static text/laben(or other) component?

    Hello everyone,
    my web application reads a VARCHAR from a SQL Server database which is bound to a static text/label component. The problem is that I don't manage to include line breaks this way.
    Is there any way to do it? It doesn't have to be using a static text or label component, I just want to display formatted text on a web page which was read from a database.
    Thank you very much for your help,
    Arthur

    unfortunately it doesn't work this way(or I am doing it wrong as I don't know anything about css)
    If I set white-space: nowrap the text is displayed in one single line ( so probably I implemented it the right way)
    but with white-space:pre he still ignores all the whitespaces!
    reading the same text (from a microsoft sql server table)with a textarea component all whitespaces and line breaks are shown! there has to be a way to make the static text or label component act this way(I don't want to use the textarea component because it's ugly and doesn't serve for my purpose).
    can anybody help me?
    edit: observation:
    if I use "nowrap" for the textarea component he still keeps all whitespaces WITHIN the string but displays the whole string in one line
    but somehow he deletes white spaces in the beginning of the string
    the static text/label components delete all whitespaces before AND within the string

  • A few questions about using an XML file to add text into a TextArea component set as html

    I'm using AS2 in Flash CS3.
    I have a TextArea component in the stage that's loading its text from an XML and I've been able to use the ul and li tags to create lists. However, when I try to include a nested list it just inserts a line break between the nested list and the main list rather than indent it further. Is there a solution for this issue?
    Failing that, how would I be able to add non-breaking spaces into the XML so they will render inside the TextArea component? I've tried   and &#160; without success. I scoured the net for some help with this and found some information about modifying the font embedding xml file with a new entry for the non-breaking space and that didn't work either, so that leaves me somewhat stumped.

    flash doesn't handle nested lists (as you now know).  you can work-around that limitation using css and creating your own indent styles.  css have a marginLeft property you can use.

  • Copy text from PM order to Purchase Requisition

    Hello
    In our current set-up we have configured so that PM Order component item text is copied to requisition item text.
    But we also have a need to fill in requisition item note directly from the PM Order.
    We see that there is a possibility to copy transaction text from PM order.
    What is transaction text?
    Any other proposals?
    Best regards
    Tom

    Greetings Tom Saga,
    The Transaction text is in fact the Operation Long Text that may be copied to the PR Item-level text. To have it automatically copied, in SPRO > Materials Management > Purchasing > Purchase Requsition > Texts for Purchase Requisitions > Define Copying Rules
    Please define for the Text Type "Item text" the Text Linkage to Source Object "Order/network" and Source Text "Transaction text". Then the externally processed Operation Long Text will automatically be copied to the PR Item Text
    Greetings Pushpa,
    Apologies for attaching to an old thread, but could you elaborate on copying the Work Order Header Long Text into a PR Long Text? I have a requirement to copy into the PR Header Note, but can't find the Text types at the header level in the copying rules. Is that possible without development?

  • Export text from ID5 (Windows) to MS Word 2010

    Hi, everybody. My problem goes like this:
    I have around 1000 pages of a book in several PageMaker 7.0 files (1 chapter per file).
    I have converted the files to ID5 and now I need to export the text and the images to get one Word file for each chapter of the book.
    The objective is a major revision/modification.
    Eack chapter has a lot of pictures placed inline that flows with the text.
    What I need is to put everything in word files in a way that would make life easier for people that is going to make modifications to the text but want to see the images (in screen resolution).
    I have no problem exporting the text from ID 5 (rtf files).
    Any ideias for putting the images on the Word file without having to do, at least, screen captures with Snagit and placing manually a representation of the images, one by one, in each of the Word files?
    Best regards and thank you in advance

    Hi Maria,
    Not sure how image captions crept into this discussion, but I guessing a language confusion.
    Essentially my application works as follows:
    It gathers a list of all open documents and their stories, and all the graphics within the stories. Each graphic is checked to make sure it is linked (not embedded), and is inline (not floating) and gives a warning if there is a problem.
    Once activated, it finds all the inline graphics,
    deletes them and replaces them with the full path to the linked file, wrapped in double < and > symbols. I use this symbol pattern because it is never used in any of our material.
    The stories are then exported to rtf files, and all the documents are closed (without saving).
    The exported stories are then opened into Word and each placeholder is found using <<*>>, this gives the location for the graphic, and the path can be extracted from the content of the find. The graphic is then inserted, replacing the placeholder text, and repeated until there are no more find results. There may be an easier way to do this bit, but this work for me.
    A Word version of the InDesign styles are merged from a separate Word template file to fix other layout incompatibilities.
    The files are then saved as Word files.
    The application also performs few more functions happening in the background as well to compensate for compatibility problems between the InDesign and Word styles.
    This is all done with a combination of AppleScript and Javascript. You should be able to achieve the same with Visual Basic.
    Hope this makes it a bit clearer on what to do, and private message me if you need me to talk to your programmer on any details.
    Regards.
