Categories limited list on home page?

HI folks,
I'm running into a problem where I wanted to add a categories menu to my home page but I needed to limit it to only a few catalogs, not the entire range, so I added a menu system, which works well in Every browser I've tried except Firefox (Win or Mac) where the menu is moved outside the categories sidebar menu:

I was hoping there might be a way to either limit the catalog list or find a fix for Firefox for this menu...
I have been inspecting the CSS for an hour, and no change I make seems to make it behave properly..

Okay, Liam, here is what I tried so far: I created a sidebar menu for categories and made it CSS HTML only. I linked the home page template http://joden.businesscatalyst.com/ to the custom css   <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/css/simpleMenu.css" /> and the file is there.
I then tried to add the custom class to each   Item CSS Class Name: ".menu_simple " in the Menu Items area.
Now the menu stays inside the Categories div, but the first ul overlaps the second, plus when I tried to inspect the CSS I found that the only CSS governing it was in the default style.css / categories ul .    There was no indication that simpleMenu.css was at all linked or affecting the layout. So I removed the custom CSS Item CSS Class Name from each link. And it made no difference to the layout.    Perhaps the custom css is not needed, but I could not find out why the first ul li was not padded or had a margin.
Anyway, it would all be working if the first link was not merged into the second. All the rest of the links are showing properly. There are no submenus.

Below is the scenario,
If i created any custom list and navigating to the list (AllItems.aspx) and on selecting the item, i can see controls in ITEM and LIST tabs of Ribbon are enabled in SharePoint 2013 publishing site.
If i add the same list in the home page (add web part --> select list view webpart) in the publishing site, on selecting of item, all controls in ITEM and LIST tabs of Ribbon are disabled always.
Please help me to fix this issue ASAP.

Ribbon controls (only ITEM and LIST tab) still in disabled mode even if i selected the item in the list view webpart.
Also, i have noticed the below things,
when i create a published site (default page : default.aspx) and add the list view webpart in the default page, the controls are in disabled mode on selecting item in list view webpart.
when i create a team site (default page : home.aspx) and add the list view webpart in the default page, the controls are in enable mode on selecting item in list view webpart.
Please help me on this.

Can't Blogpost list on home page??

Hi folks. I am not sure why this feature is missing, but I wan't to create a list of posts as they appear under recent posts on the blog page, but I want to do it on the home page. I am told by tech that this is not possible. I think this is pretty lame. I was wondering if there is a workaround? I tried to use blogsummary module and I used CSS to remove author and date, but still it is displaying compressed and too far to the right. The tag recent posts don't work but there is nothing comparable in the modules. You'd think a simple feature like those available on WordPress would be available here. If there is, tech doesn’t' seem to know about it.
TIA for any help...

If you are going to use any tag on a web page it will not render.

How to reduce stories listed on Home Page

Home Page is too cluttered with stories. Have eliminated some by indicating no interest, but still excessive. How long do you leave a story up? Some are days old.

The default home page is ''about:home''. It features little else besides the Firefox logo, a search box, a tip or other interesting information below that, and a few icons that launch various Firefox features like bookmarks.

Alphabetize Search Result Subsites on a Home Page in Office 365

Issue: Alphabetizing search results listed on Home Page
I understand how to alphabetize subsites on the quick launch and top link bars. I cannot, however, determine how to organize subsite search results alphabetically by title when listed on the Home Page. I've tried adjusting the query string and sorting settings
of the Search Results with no luck. In fact, the sorting tab for building my search query lists the subsites in alphabetical order (though it only shows about half of the total number of subsites), while on the Home Page the subsites are not displayed alphabetically.

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to alphabetize subsites from search results in Office 365 site. Is it right?
In SharePoint 2013 Online, there is a managed property called SiteTitle. If you go to SharePoint Admin Center->search->Manage Search Schema, and find and edit the managed property, you will see Sortable:No, and you cannot edit the option.
So, we think we can create a new managed property and enable it sortable. However, in SharePoint Online, when you create a new managed property, it will have some limitations. For example, the property can only be of type Text or Yes/No, and it can't
be refinable or sortable. More information, you can refer to
it.
As a workaroud, you can map the crawled property (ows_SiteName) to an already created Managed Property in SPO (RefinableString00) as shown in the below image:
Then go to your Office 365 site, and edit the search results web part to sort the results as the managed property(RefinableString00).

Every time I click on my home page it opens two tabs one of which is the mozilla atart page. I would like it to stop.

I believe that the question is self descriptive. I open a new tab and it opens. I click on my home page which is Google. The browser then opens a second tab and in the second tab that it opens is the Mozilla start page. if I do this several times during the day I end up with several tabs open to the Mozilla start page and it is irritating.

Firefox can have multiple home pages, check your list of home pages to ensure that the 2 sites are not listed. See [[how to set the home page]] for details.

Why does Firefox keep opening a separate Firefox tab along with my home page when I start it, and how do I stop it.

When I click on the Firefox icon, it opens my home page, but in a separate tab it opens a Firefox page. I only want my home page to open when I click the icon.

URGENT: Change categories which can be attached from Sourcing Home Page

Hi,
I wanted to change the categories which can be attached from Sourcing Home Page. My requirement is, when a buyer enters
Sourcing Super User Responsibility -> Sourcing Home Page
and create RFI.
In that page there ia button to 'Add Attachment'. When user clicks that button there is popup list where different categories are displayed. So my requirement is to change those categories manually like, to add more number of categories or to remove some of the categories from the list. Could anyone please help me in this? Its very urgent.

Redirecting to the Home Page when clicking on close button of the Item in a list

I have a SPD Workflow configured in a site to show a link to the current item view form from the autogenerated mail, so that when a user clicks on the link , it gets redirected to the list item as a Viewform.aspx. on closing t hat the user will be redirected
to the list and shown the allitems.aspc view of the list. But the user now wants to redirect to the Home page of the site. I have created and deployed the SPD WF using Designer 2010 and deployed to the production. But Now I am fearing that to achieve
this requirement do I need to change the entire approach of SPD Workflow? If anyone has pointers please share with me.

No, I said to set the Source parameter of the URL to the home page. You have to do this in order for the browser to know where to send the user upon closing or updating the item. This is how all redirects work in SharePoint. If you go browse
around and click on an item, you will see a Source parameter in the address bar. The URL that comes after "&Source=" is the URL your browser will be sent to after you click "close." This is how SharePoint remembers the context of where you
were. If you don't provide a Source parameter, then it defaults to the list where the item lives. That's what you're currently doing, so you need to add a Source parameter to the URL you provide in the workflow email.

Sharepoint 2013 Discussion Board Web Part, Subject line link on Home Page does not link to the list view

I am by no means a SharePoint developer, but I really wanted to customize the discussion board for my site - so I found this link: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/733164/How-to-create-HelpDesk-on-SharePoint-Online
I added the columns, like the article said, and then completed the section "Modification of the discussion board views". I skipped the workflow stuff because while I think it would be useful I wanted to make sure I could get
the actual customization of the discussion board to work first.
My Problem (Just to preface - I followed the above instructions, including disabling the Minimal Download Strategy):
When I clicked into my discussion board list, I was able to get it to look and function as described for both the subject and flat views. However, when I click on the Subject, from the Discussion Board Web Part on my Home Page, it does not redirect into the
Discussion Board List Flat View. Instead, it tries to open the root folder from the Home Page while still using the subject view. The outcome being an empty discussion board on the Home Page.
So I decided to create a whole new discussion board to see if that one would work, when I inserted a new Discussion Board Web Part into the Home Page, newly created from the app menu, it used the same custom JS file(plumTickets), even though I never linked
the discussion board to the JS file. Of course when I went into the newly created Discussion Board list it opened as it does OOTB.
I am so close it having this work like I have been envisioning. I just need users to be able to click on a discussion subject from the Home Page and be redirected to the list view of the parent folder (I think that is the correct terminology,
but it may not be) so they would be able to see any replies and be able to reply. Please Help Me!!!

I figured it out. I was using ?FilterField1=fieldname&FilterValue1=value on the URL to the page to pick out one project number. The web part I was trying to add was for a list that did not have that particular fieldname. I didn't realize that would matter
since I was using the Connections -> Get Filter Values From to get my filter values from the main web part, which does have that fieldname.
I added a field with that fieldname to the other list and set a workflow to copy the lookup value of the project number lookup field into the new field. Now all is working fine. Sorry for the wild geese in my original question.

I have imported my bookmarks from Explorer, how do I get the list to appear on my home page?

when I click "bookmarks toolbar" I see my list when I go to Internet Explorer, but there's a wide blank on the left of my home page I want the list to appear on when I open the home page.

Did you purchase any music from the iTunes Music Store? Does that go onto your iPod?
Also, try playing the episode in iTunes for a few seconds first, to authorize it.
Finally, Connect the iPod and go to edit-->preferenes. Click the iPod tab. Click the videos tab under that. Make sure automatically update all videos is selected.
Note: Your preferences may look slightly different.
If that doesn't work, please post back for more suggestions. Also, be sure to tell us if purchased music transfers (If the above doesn't correct the issue)

How do I get rid of icons on my safari home page?also how do I get bookmarks to go to bookmarks list rather than as icons?

Since the new IOS uodate I can not get new bookmarks to go to my bookmarks list. Instead I get icons on my safari home page which I can not delete. Can anyone help me with this?

On the Safari page tap the bookmarks icon. Tap favorites, slide the ones you want to delete to the left. When you bookmark a new site when it says location make sure you tap bookmarks and not favorites.

My home page comes up not normal, just lists topics. I click on Hotmail and it is frozen. Everything else works. I uninstalled and installed twice and the same thing happens. I can get Hotmail on Explorer.

Norton did block a worm but I scanned Norton twice, no problem. My home page is Dell MSN and comes up with articles and pictures, now it just lists the topics, no pictures.
