CCTV Camera input to iMac?

Hi guys,
We are looking at using 2 wired dome cameras and our iMac as a CCTV system using Security Spy but we're struggling to find a way of getting the video signals into the iMac. With a Mac Pro it would be easy with an internal card but obviously that simply isn't possible with the iMac.
So, does anyone know of a possible USB/Firewire solution? Our cameras have BNC connectors on the end but I'm sure we can find suitable adaptors depending on what products are available.
Your help would be very much appreciated.
Cheers in advance

You need an interface device that connects to the "composite video source" and then to your Mac's USB port. Then you need software that understands that input and displays it in a window on your screen (or full screen).
I have the device shown here, called +XLR8 XtraView+.
http://daystar-store.com/videoin.aspx
It comes with software for doing video capture, but I mostly use that software to display the video output from my TiVo (which is just an RCA-type cable) on my screen in a window. At the time, it was the least expensive option I could find, and it works well. It basically makes that window on my screen into a TV. Note: This particular product is only for standard def, not HD.
There are some other low cost options I see now from Elgato and Miglia. If I was getting one now, I'd probably looking into the specs on those products, for example

You can see other options from those companies on their respective web sites.

  • Old digital video camera connection to iMac????

I have an old Panasonic digital color CCTV camera (model WV-CL320) which I have used for years with a microscope attachment in my classroom connected to a television. I would like to be able to connect to the computer to capture images, either single frame or short video clips, on my iMac G-4. Does anyone have knowledge or experience about connections of this type? I tried connecting via the video port by way of the Apple composite or S-video adapter to no avail. Nothing shows up and system profiler doesn't indicate anything. iMovie does not sense a camera. So what must I do or is this asking the impossible? Does this kind of capture require additional software, a composite video to fire wire or something altogether not apparent to my unsavvy mind? The camera has no storage capacity; it simply delivers an output of 1.0 Vp-p NTSC composite video signal. The output on the camera is a BNC connector which further connects to an RCA cable to the television. I have connected the camera to my LCD projector through a composite video- phone jack port on the back of the HP xb21. So if anyone can help it would be appreciated. Thanks

by way of the Apple composite or S-video adapter to no avail.
These ports are OUT from the Mac, not IN to the Mac.

The camera is really no different than a VHS VCR (in this context).

  • Is it possible to input itunes into DVI/HDCP input from imac with Apple mini display portS?

Is it possible to input itunes into DVI/HDCP input from imac with Apple mini display port? Or is there another way?

The problem with itunes is needing a computer running it. or continuous internet connection.
A Time Capsule is AC mains powered.. no battery. Although you can certainly buy an older Gen4 TC and modify it ...
    https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/time-capsule-power-supply-repair-kits
I have run my TC on a 12V SLA battery.. which would neatly meet that part of the functionality you want. But it is heavy and not really the rugged sort of device I think you want.
But I would look at other media players and other ways of storing movies than iTunes.. if you want to carry the whole lot around with you .. A bunch of SD cards even you could plug into the ipad??
    External storage for iPad?
A small cheap PC/Mac laptop with a 1TB hard disk  in it.. and 11" or 13" screen.. can often be a much better solution than lugging around multiple items so you can fit Apple devices into your life.

  • Does apple have any products to facilitate video input on iMac 27"?

I want to input video to my iMac 27". I assume you can add a display port video card to a pc, what about VGA and hdmi support?  Has apple addressed this?  I know there was the belkin av360, apple doesnt like It anymore?

The iMacs support Video Input since iMac mid 2009 i have Play Station 3 connected on my new 27" iMac mid 2011. Im using the Belkin's HDMI to MiniDisplay Port Adaptor (It is only posibble to use the "DisplayTargetMode" from iMac-OtherMac, you have just to press cmd+f2) For all the other devices you will need an Adaptor  cuz' otherwise u won't be able to input at all, or you will not be able to use High Resolution hope this helped ppl, gl.

  • View HD Video Input on iMac Screen

I would like to view the high-definition output of my cable company's hi-def cable box (via firewire, hdmi, dvi, usb, or composite connections) on my iMac's scree. Is there any such device that will do this? I have a high-def tv stick that does work with over-the-air ATSC broadcasts, but its only other input is standard analog cable at standard definition.
Would something like this ADS Pyro video capture device work for this?
    http://www.adstech.com/products/API-558-EFS/intro/API-558_intro.asp?pid=API-558- EFS
It appears to have hi-def inputs and output capability, but I'm not totally sure.
    Thanks!

  • I got a CCTV camera. On the side is says 'NATIONAL CCTV LENS 8mm F1.2. Can I connect that to my macbook pro? How?

I got a CCTV camera. On the side is says 'NATIONAL CCTV LENS 8mm F1.2' can I connect that to my macBook pro? How? I'm doing a project and I need to connect the camera to my Macbook pro. I also need to be able to see what the camera sees at the same time. How do I dont this? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

It depends on what connections the camera has. If it has USB, just plug it in. If it is networked, put the camera on the network and then access it from your Mac using whatever software or browser access is directed by the camera instructions. If it has a purely video or analog connection (coaxial, RCA, etc), you will need some kind of video interface in addition to the Mac.

  • Simulate camera input with Java Media Framework

I'd like to ask, if there is a way to simulate camera input with JMF?
I'd like to write a program that registers (somehow) in Windows a new camera device, and I can create a video stream in Java that supplies data of what is "visible" through that "software camera".
Is it even possible with pure Java (with JMF)?

    Bump!
The question is sill open and Dukes are waiting.

  • I cannot install the component for QuickTime to convert videos done by a Sony video camera. My iMac tells me that software is designed for previous versions of Os x. Any ideas?

I cannot install the QuickTime component for MPEG-2 to read and covert video files created by Sony video cameras. My iMac tells me that the software is designed for previous versions of OS X.
    Any ideas?

Ok, so after like 4 days of going through all these different issues, I figured out that several programs weren't downloading, and it was an issue with my wireless connectivity messing up the digital signatures, so if you plug in your comp to the modem and delete your temp files, it should start to work!

  • A/V input to imac

I have an old Sony 8mm handycam and I was wondering if there is a way to connect this camera to my imac.
I would like to transfer old movies to my computer and then copy them to a disc.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I know it's the wrong forum, but why are you trying to transfer video from a new camcorder using HDMI? Most modern camcorders are file based, and you can either transfer the footage to FCE by taking from the memory card or connecting the camcorder via a USB cable to get to the files. From more info, look at the FCE forum as andy says (earlier version of FCE don't support AVCHD footage - check what type of camcorder it is).

  • The mouse that came with my imac does not work very well in a window virtual machine

I finally got Windows 7 on my iMac and am using FusionVM.  I installed one of my favorite games and the mouse goes soooooo slow I cannot use the game.  Any suggestions?  I am using the mouse that came with the iMac, magic mouse(??).

I have already tried that.  The mouse speed on the iMac is good.  The mouse speed in other Windows7 programs is good.  The problem arose when I tried to play Zuma's Revenge using Windows7.  This is the first game I have loaded since setting up the virtual machine.

Perian 1.2.3 *should* work for both QuickTime & and QTX in Mountain Lion. Regardless of the filetype container, whether it is a Matroska (.mkv) or a .mov. As to the actual encoding of the file (h264, .mp2, whatever..) I have found most play, even older formats.
Even though it's no longer supported and is a dead project, it works just fine. It will load as a System Preference file and adds to the Other category in them.
I think in 10.8 you've still got support for QTX so it may work with that. (in Mavericks, it only works for QT7)
If not, just run QuickTime 7.6.6.

If no luck there, you could also try VLC at http://www.videolan.org

  • Any ideas why the video camera on my imac is not working?

Does any one have any idea why the video camera on my imac is not working? I have been using skype on my imac for some time and recently I have discovered that it wont work, could this have anything to do with the mountain lion upgrade?

    Have a look here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090?viewlocale=en_US
I think I'd start with the SMC reset.
