CD Player in Director
Hi
I am creating an autorun title screen in Director for an
audio CD. I want to be able to, inside the project, click the "play
cd" button, and the audio will play inside the project. There is a
DVD controller that does what I want, except that it's for DVDs.
Hi
Try using BuddyApi to look to the cd-rom drive.

Flash Player 9, Director MX, LocalConnection and the file system sandbox
I have a Director MX asset to which I have no source-code
access. Previously I could use LocalConnection in a Flash Player 8
projector to interact with the Director app, local to the
file-system. I seem unable to do the same thing with a Flash Player
9 projector. The director asset looks for and loads the relevant
Flash projector and unloads itself when it is no longer present,
and this functionality continues without a problem. However, when I
use the LocalConnection.send method, the Flash player does not
receive the expected responses.
I know that this is a rather general and abstract question:
put simply, does anyone know whether Flash Player 9 and Director MX
can't talk to each other using LocalConnection?
ps to pre-empt over-enthusiastic respondees, yes I am aware
of other technologies such as AIR, Zinc etc, and no they're not a
viable option for my particular project.Hi,
the following sourcecode is compiled with Flexbuilder 2 and
runs in flashplayer 9.0.115 as expected.
How do you trigger the effect?
best regards,

Can I develop a media player in Director?
Hi!
I want to develop an application (a media player) where you
could choose and play video and music files (stored at the
computer). I want the user to be able to fast forward and rewind
these video or music files as she like. It is really important that
you could hear the actual sound go fast when a music file is going
fast forward or rewind.
Do you think that I could use Director to develop this media
player? Or do you know an other program I could use instead?
I'm very grateful if someone could help me.
Best regards from BeeeaaaHi again,
I've tried to make a Director application which uses
QuickTime player to play a video file. But when I push the fast
forward and rewind buttons, the video isn't going that very faster
and most of all: you can't hear the sound going fast or
backwards!!!! If I use the original QT player, you can hear it, but
not when it's inside of an Director application. Why is this? Can I
change it so I can hear the actual sound go fast or backwards???
(I can't use the QT player by it self since it seems that I
can't change the user interface of it as I want.)

Is there a way to embed the youtube player into Director?
Can't find anything about it online. Would be great to make a custom player for youtube.
Don't know much about you tube but there are lots of configurations for audio in Compressor.

Hello, all.
I have this project intended to be a hybrid cd - it can be
played as a VCD if inserted ina DVD player, and if used in a
computer it is played as a Director projector. The issue is that
the video file is too big, so I can´t have it duplicated, so
I'm trying to make director read the DAT file used in the VCD. It's
a kind of mpeg, but I can't get it right. I know it can be
acomplished because i've seen it.
Can anyone help me, please? Thanks in advance.you can create an application with VB to launch a media
player that plays a specific DAT file.
then launch that exe file from director with :
_player.open("","you VB exe file path")
or
you can just launch a default media player (maybe, windows
media player) from director with :
_player.open("your DAT file path","media player of your
choice path")
but, this is not recommended as we don't know what media
player applications the customer had in his/her computer.
Try the first step. That should work. -
Embedding/linking director in flash?
hi there, i have searched this forum and google but can't
find a way to embed/link a project i did in Director MX to a Flash
8 movie. I found loads of ways to do it the other way around i.e.
Flash in Director but not the way i need. Is there a way to do this
by any chance? any help would be very much appreciated.
Thankspeterotoole-
I worked 3 years doing Director/Flash integration so it is
with confidence I can say there is no way to embed Shockwave movies
(output of director) inside of a swf (output of flash). The reason
it only works with a swf inside a shockwave movie is because
Director is more powerful and has an xtra which emulates the flash
player inside Director. Essential Director there is a mini Flash
Player; if that makes sense. Flash is not powerful enough to have a
mini shockwave player inside of it.
However I have an idea that might help. There is a way to get
Flash and Director to talk to one another without being inside of
one another. This could provide the abiliy to make things seem as
if the Director content is in a model window being controlled by
your swf. To do this you will need to use LocalConnection Objects.
You can find out more about LocalConnection Objects @
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/director/articles/local_connect_objects.html
I hope that helps.

Video intro slow when full screen
The avi runs great even in authoring mode. Movie and avi is
1024x768. Also runs smooth when running movie.exe as long as it is
run from a window. When I make the movie go full-screen (using an
xtra), the avi has a lot of stops/starts (stutters) and is not
running at full fps. All other parts of my movie run fine at
full-screen. I can't figure out why it slows down to a crawl at
full-screen mode.
Anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks!Your processor/video card doesn't have enough horsepower to
play the movie. Remember that you are running the digital video
player inside Director, and so Director takes some of the
computer's processing away from the dv player. You may be able to
solve the problem by lowering the data rate of the video, or by
changing the codec altogether. If this dv file really is an AVI
then you are far better off by changing to another, more modern,
file type. -
Shouldn't it be available by now?
Well, the main reason for the release of the upcoming
Director 11 is that the entire program (both authoring and the SW
player) needed to be rewritten to bring it up to current standards.
I suspect that the neglect of Director / SW by Macromedia was so
bad that an Intel player for Director MX 2004 was seen as a waste
of time.
So I'd expect the Intel SW player to be available after
Director 11 ships. -
Does this work with ReadyNas?
I have a Netgear ReadyNas Duo RND2150, it supports "SqueezeCenter", "iTunes Streaming Server", "ReadyDLNA", & "Home Media Streaming Server". Will this work with the Linksys Player, Conductor & Director work with it? Will there be any limitations?
Also, does the director function standalone or does it need the conductor or director?
Thanks,
StephenYes is the simple answer to the first question. The ReadyNas needs to have the UPNP media server running and correctly configured. There are no limitations I am aware of and have each of these running on Twonky Media Server on XP and Linux, Buffalo's Linkstation Media server (Linux) and Cisco's own media server running on XP.
In addition you can control the whole setup from a laptop, Nokia N95, Iphone, Ipod Touch, the Cisco Touchscreen remote DMRW1000 and each player component can operate standalone without requiring a director or conductor in the network, the only requirement is some sort of UPNP media server.
The whole setup is now working nicely since the last firmware update -
LocalConnection and attachMovie...
SORRY(BUT FOR ANYONE INTERESTED, THE PROBLEM WAS THE WORD
"THIS" IN THE RECIEVING SWF... CHANGED TO _ROOT AND IT WORKS)
hello,
in the first (sending) swf is this code:
one.onRelease=function(){
var nChosen:Number=1;
var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
sending_lc.send("lcNumber", "methodToExecute", nChosen);
two.onRelease=function(){
var nChosen:Number=2;
var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
sending_lc.send("lcNumber", "methodToExecute", nChosen);
and in the recieving .swf:
// Code in the receiving SWF file
this.createTextField("result_txt", 1, 10, 10, 100, 22);
result_txt.border = true;
var receiving_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
receiving_lc.methodToExecute = function(nChosen:Number) {
this.attachMovie("circle"+nChosen, "circle",
this.getNextHighestDepth(), {_x:180, _y:18});
result_txt.text = nChosen;
receiving_lc.connect("lcNumber");
the textField properly displays nChosen, but the movieClip is
not attaching (yes, the linkage name is set up, they are circle1
and circle2)
help appreciated thanks!http://www.adobe.com/devnet/director/articles/local_connect_objects_03.html#prepare:

Known Issues
At this time, there are some situations in which
LocalConnection objects do not behave as expected. These issues
only arise for those using LocalConnection objects in Director MX
2004/Shockwave Player 10 to connect with LocalConnection objects in
Flash MX/Flash Player 6/Director MX. In these cases, the clients
are both able to connect and exchange messages without producing
any errors. The difficulty is that when the Director MX
2004/Shockwave Player 10 client receives incoming messages, the
allowDomain callback function is triggered as expected, but
regardless of the return value it provides, the incoming message
appears to be ignored. There are no known workarounds for this
issue at this time, so the best measure of protection is to ensure
that these version mismatches don't occur.
however I am using Director10 and FlashCS3;

I would expect using a debug player I guess.
If you are using flashtracer, make sure you install
flashswitcher as well - its a quick way for you to check - but
flashtracer only works with the debug player, so you need to be
able to switch back if you use it. You will need to put the debug
player into the flashswitcher player options directories, because I
don't think its included with the players options that come with
flashswitcher.
I don't know if any of the beta releases from adobe labs
might exhibit the same behaviour as the debug player, but
personally I would expect this from a debug player. If I want to
test it in a regular player I just switch using flashswitcher. -
Importing flash - no graphic?
Using trial versions of Director MX 2004 and Flash Basic 8
Create a simple 1 frame movie in flash with a simple vector
graphic
Import .swf (which
does display the graphic when opened in the flash player)
into Director - Director brings in the SWF movie at proper size and
determines that it is 1 frame - but there is no graphic, just a
white, rectangular sprite.
This seems so simple - what am I doing wrong?
Thanks!Hi,
I don't think the update would invaliadte your trial. You
will need to install
the 10.1 update before you install the Flash update. The
Flash update is a
drag install, where you just copy files into the specified
folder rather than
running the entire install. Anyway, the updates will likely
get into the demo
at some stage. For now, install all the updates and if your
Director expires
prematurely, you can write to Director support people and
they will provide
you an extended time serial number.

Director won't work on OS X: "This application requires Shockwave Player 11"
Taking a Macromedia Director project and upgrading to Adobe Director (needing to upgrade for several reasons), I found that the published app no longer works on OS X. The error message appears as follows:
"Application Error
This application requires Shockwave Player 11, which can not be found. Click OK to download it."
In console:
Error loading /(path)/my.app/Contents/Frameworks/IMLLib.framework/IMLLib: dlopen(/(path)/my.app/Contents/Frameworks/IMLLib.framework/IMLLib, 262): no suitable image found. Did find: /(path)/my.app/Contents/Frameworks/IMLLib.framework/IMLLib: unknown file type, first eight bytes: 0x58 0x53 0x79 0x6D 0x0A
I made sure that it was being published as a projector, and not as a shockwave. I also tried publishing to an HFS filesystem as opposed to local to an ntfs system (I'm running Adobe Director on Vista). Oddly enough, when I originally ran this project on an XP machine (now deceased) this issue did not occur.
Thanks in advance to any help anyone can give!This sounds very much like what started happening with my Director-based apps. Perhaps something in that forum thread will help or at least shed a clue, but if anyone comes up with a surefire fix for this, I and my customers would love to hear it.

Director Player Error : Handler not found in object
Hi,
I have made an exe to run a video in Director. This was done using old version of director, 8.5 supposedly.
When i try to run video through this exe, the video plays in background but i get the following error(snapshot attached):
"Handler not found in object
# openport
Script Error. Continue?"
I have installed shockwave player 8.5 and also put all the files from xtra folder to the folder where exe in lying but still i am getting the same error.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.Looks like something in one of the scripts in your project that is being called but is not working correctly for some reason.
Without seeing the code it's hard to tell what the problem may be. I'm wondering if there's one of the old-style line continuation characters that may be breaking the #openport handler somewhere in your scripts. -
I have a new laptop acer aspire e17, running windows 8.1. I have downloaded flash, shockwave and java. Everytime i try to run an interactive cd i use for study, the error message in the title comes up.
'director player error: internal error: unexpected failure while compositing bitmap 5 of PLAYER-CAST 2'
I have checked that all the browsers on my computer support shockwave (the cartoon is playing on chrome, mozilla and IE).
The interactive cd and dvds work on other laptop, not working on this one.
How can I fix this?
Thanks.It will now play audio cds and dvds. The computer asks me what to do with them first. The problem is still the cd i use for study. Its is an interactive cd - it is its own application - clicking on images and animations to teach vowel sounds, sentences etc.
The disc works on my other laptop, which is running in windows 7. All discs are recognised by my windows 7 and 8.1 dvd/cd player/writer, but when the title page for the interactive cd pops up on windows 8.1, the director error message pops up and the homepage shuts down with the message.
I feel like Im sure there is a package or a patch I can download to fix this issue, I just need to know what. Please help.
