Certification Confusion: Sun Ultra20 x86

I want to install Grid Control on my Sun Ultra20 x86. The downloads/certifications for Sun are only SPARC. Is there a Grid Control release that I can run on this machine?
Thank you.

  • Gcc 4.2.1 sun solaris x86

We installed gcc 4.2.1 on sun solaris x86, but it does give me thousand of errors related to error lib and including. It used to be working under old version 3.4.3 compiler.
Here is an sample error(even the basic string function" strcmp" is not recongnized):
/lib/gcc/sparc-sun-solaris2.10/bits/c++locale.h: error: strcmp is not a member of std"
It turns out all the stand libraries are not compiled correctly.
    Please help
    Thanks ahead

The info on Sun gcc download page is really confusing, the gcc will work on solaris x86 and the compiled executable can ONLY be executed on SPARC server. What a frustrating experience!Could you please let us know which page is that? Because the one I found - called "Product Downloads GCC For SPARC Systems" has SPARC written all over it:

  • How to upgrade oracle 32 to 64 bit on sun solaris x86 64 bit OS?

    Hi,
I want to upgrade/convert 32 bit Oracle Database 10.2.0.2 to 64 bit database. Existing 32 bit database is RAC and it is running on Sun Solaris X86 64 bit OS.
First, I want to know is it possible?
If yes, then what are the exact steps?

    Hi,
Such a migration can be done, just follow the steps in Metalink note 62290.1
It is important to remember that 64-bit database requires more shared pool memory so you should increase your shared pool size.

  • Sun/Oracle x86 blade BIOS features - disable cores?

    Hi
Does anyone know if it is possible to disable CPU cores on any Sun/Oracle x86 blades like it is possible, as example, on some HP x86 blades (E5600 Xeon series)?
If this is the case does anyone know if it is possible to license a quad core CPU as an dual core using this feature?
Thank your for your replies :-)

  • 10g AS certifications for Sun

Here is the platform: AMD running Solaris-10 X86-64 OS. I've looked through the certification tables and don't see it listed exactly like this, so I'm thinking it isn't certified, but wanted to check the forums to see if anyone out there can tell me otherwise. I've only found windows and linux certifications for amd.
    Thanks.

    Hi.
Unfortunately, I believe you are correct.
Anyway, have you already tried to install it on this platform. The fact of this "hardware x software" combination not being certified doesn't necessarily means it won't work. But it means you will not have Oracle Support.
I know this is not what you want to read, but I've recently read in SUN site that their servers with solaris are less expensive than using solaris with other hardware.
If you have interest about reading it:
    http://www.sun.com/emrkt/boardroom/newsletter/brazil/0606expertinsight_trad.html
This text was written in portuguese... If you can read something in spanish, you won't have much trouble understanding it.
If you don't have any other box to install OracleAS, then you should try to install it in this server.
    Good Luck.

  • Instant Client 11.1.0.7 for Sun Solaris x86/x64

    Hi,
we are looking for a new version(11.1.0.7) of instantclient for a Solaris 10 x86/x64 system.
Current Solaris instant client is outdated at the moment and we are have some problem with InstantClient 10 and the limitation(32k) of chars.
When will there be updated packages for Solaris on x86/x64 systems,
or is this platform not supported anymore?
    Thanks a lot

Due to Oracle's redicoulus NDA for new release versions no one within Oracle seems to be able to tell us, which as a customer we find unresonable. We were told last year, about this time that we should expect a 11gR1 release around Oracleworld. That came and went. Again we asked, and were told that it "might" be comming out as a 11gR2 version.
Fine. We will renew our support agreement when we know you will support our platform.

  • Design Specialist certification confusion.

I'm a designer student. Last year we passed the ACA exams for Photoshop CS6 and Flash CS6. This year, it was scheduled that we write the ACE exams of Photoshop CS6, InDesign CS6 and Acrobat X.
We were told by passing these two ACA exams and the three ACE exams we would recieve our Design Specialist certification. Recently my college changed the curriculum so that we do the ACA exams of Photoshop CC, InDesign CC and Acrobat XI. We were told that if we passed last year's ACA exams(PS cs6 and Flash cs6) and this year's ACA exams (Ps CC, InDesign CC and Acrobat XI) we would still receive our Design Specialist certification.
I did view the Design Specialist Overview on Adobe and it specifies that ACE InDesign and Acrobat of the current version is required as well as the ACE Photoshop (my elective choice) is necessary for the Design Specialist Certification.
I just want to know if what we are being told is true.

Here is another group that is moderated by Sun Employees...

I realize its an S8 group but it seems to answer some questions....search the forum...here is an extract of a similar issue posted by a Sun Technician...
Try installing the latest revision of patches 108529 and 111307 for ACPI bugfixes. If you are booting from floppy, use the boot image from patch 110930.
    From SunSolve FAQ 3307:
SYNOPSIS: How to resolve ACPI conflicts.
    DETAIL DESCRIPTION:
ACPI is a new device enumeration method on the Intel architecture. At times
messages noting a conflict of some type may come up:
Warning: resource conflict... both devices are added
    NON-ACPI device: ISY0050
    Port: 3F0-3F5, 3F7; IRQ: 6; DMA: 2
    ACPI Device: ISY0050
    Port: 3F2-3F3, 3F4-3F5, 3F7; IRQ: 6; DMA: 2
This is an example conflict. Many other types are possible. In general,
theses types of problems are caused by hardware problems or a buggy ACPI
    implementation.
    SOLUTION SUMMARY:
A possible workaround is to disable the kernel ACPI module. If the problem
is happening during installation, the boot floppy must be modified. Mount the
boot floppy and add the following line to bootenv.rc:
    setprop acpi-user-options '0x2'
Run the installation again, ACPI should be disabled and the installation
    should continue without a problem.
If the problem occurs after installation the same line can be added to
the top of /etc/bootrc and ACPI will be disabled on the next reboot.
    Hope this helps..

  • Certification confusion

    Dear all Expertise,
My name is Rahul Kharat, i am a production engineer and working in SAP-PM module for last 8 months. I want to go for certification kindly suggest me from which module i should go for certification?
    Regards,
    Rahul Kharat
    Jr. Engineer Core Team Member
    SAP-PM module

    Hi
Which module depends on various factors like your education background, your domain experience, your interests in any paricular area etc...
When it comes to functional part of SAP, employers generally look for candidates who have domain experience in the module the candidate is applying a job for. For example, a person who is specialized in SAP FI module, and who has domain experience in Finance, has more advantage than the person whose background and domain experience are not in Finance.
For technical part though, if your background is from computers or any other similar graduation, it will help in learning technical areas of SAP to an extent. In general, people from technical background always prefer Technical areas of SAP.
So, it is upto you. There is always something new coming up in SAP. If it suits your interests, go ahead and pursue it. All modules in SAP are important, and are in demand.
