CF Component in Flex problems

Hi. I am new to ColdFusion, and I am trying to get it working
with Flex 3 and MySQL. Everything works fine if I use HTTP and a
CFM file. Now I am trying to use a RemoteObject with a CF Component
as the source. I know the CFC is configured correctly because I can
call it from a CFM file and get data back from the database. But
when I use the RemoteObject in Flex, I get this error:
[MessagingError message='The MessageAgent's destination must
be set to send messages.']
Where do I set up this MessageAgent, and should this be
necessary? Thanks for any help!

Sorry to tell you but the Application Wizards for CF are
Windows only. I recall some previous forum posts/responses back
around the release of Flex 3 indicating that the application
wizards were written in Windows code that requires DLLs (or some
such). It didn't sound like these extensions were coming to those
of us on Mac or Linux anytime soon, as it would entail an entire
rewrite of the application.
If you really need to use these wizards you can do it with a
"little" workaround:
1. Install Windows XP (or Vista) on your Mac either via Boot
Camp or one of the virtualization applications (VMWare Fusion or
Parallels for Mac).
2. Download Flex Builder 3 for Windows (when you buy Flex,
Adobe gives you the option to download versions either major
platform)
3. Install CF and Flex Builder 3 on your Windows machine
4. Connect to your datasource
5. Run the wizard
6. Export the code to your Mac drive (zip, copy, FTP,
whatever you like)
7. Import the project into your Mac Flex Builder
I certainly don't recommend this option but it is available
if you feel you need the generated applications.
I don't think there would be a licensing issue with Adobe for
this setup since you're using the application locally on your
machine but don't quote me on that.
HTH!

  • Tree component in Flex 4

    Are there any known issues with the <mx:Tree component in Flex 4?
    We have upgraded from Flex 3 builder to Flex 4 builder. Everything works except any where we have used a tree component the data is no longer showing. Has there been a change in how to populate the Tree component? We populate the tree by setting the dataProvider with an ArrayCollection.

    @travr,
    I'm not aware of any big known issues in mx:Tree between Flex 3.x and Flex 4.x. What problems are you seeing, and can you reproduce the issue with a simple test case (if so, please post the simple test case here and we can take a look).
    This works in Flex 3.5:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
        <mx:ApplicationControlBar dock="true">
            <mx:Button id="sdkVer" initialize="sdkVer.label = mx_internal::VERSION;" click="System.setClipboard(sdkVer.label);" />
        </mx:ApplicationControlBar>
        <mx:Tree id="tr" labelField="name" width="200" x="20" y="20">
            <mx:dataProvider>
                <mx:ArrayCollection>
                    <mx:Object name="1. One">
                        <mx:children>

                    <mx:Object name="2. Two">

                </mx:ArrayCollection>
            </mx:dataProvider>
        </mx:Tree>
    </mx:Application>
    And this seems to work in Flex 4.5/Hero beta:

  • How to set multiple styles on a single component in flex ?

    Hi ,
    I would like to know how to set multiple styles on a single component in flex.
    Can anyone give me an example as to how to set multiple styles for a single component ?
    Thanks ,

    Hi tuliptaurus,
    You can setStyleName property for chnaging the external css dynamically by using the setStyle() method ...
    btn.setStyle("styleName","blendButtonSkinOther");
    You can change the external css by using the styleaName property with setStyle method..the line in blue..where blendButtonSkinOther is another css class..
    blendButtonSkin {
        fontFamily: Arial;
        fontSize: 11;
        color: #F1F1F1;

  • Is it possible to call a function in a parent component from a child component in Flex 3?

    This is probably a very basic question but have been wondering this for a while.
    I need to call a function located in a parent component and make the call from its child component in Flex 3. Is there a way to access functions in a parent component from the child component? I know I can dispatch an event in the child and add a listener in the parent to call the function, but just wanted to know if could also directly call a parent function from a child (similar to how you can call a function in the main mxml file using Application.application). Thanks

    There are no performance issues, but it is ok if you are using the child component in only one class. Suppose if you want to use the same component as a child to some bunch of parents then i would do like the following
    public interface IParentImplementation{
         function callParentMethod();
    and the parent class should implement this 'IParentImplementation'
    usually like the following line
    public class parentClass extends Canvas implements IParentImplementation{
              public function callParentMethod():void{
         //code
    in the child  you should do something like this.
    (this.parent as IParentImplementation).callParentMethod();
    Here using the Interfaces, we re decoupling the parent and the child

  • Is there any component in flex to show/edit digital maps, lattitude, longitude etc?

    Is there any component in flex to show/edit digital maps, lattitude, longitude etc?

    If I do this then I will have my video player in fullscreen disappear for a moment and then reappear out of fullscreen, and I want it not to disappear, but to just jump to the other state fully resized and repositioned with no glitching in between states.
    Than you will need to implement your own solution which meets your specific design goals. That's the nature of the beast my friend.
    As far as I know dynimic skin parts have another meaning - creating more than one instance at runtime. Also I've read just now (again) partAdded and partRemoved are called on component initialization and skin change. So basicly if I change the skin, it makes sense to remove the eventListeners from the old skin parts. But still, I've read on many places that if an object has event listeners attached to it it will Not be GC unless they are weak, so it will be stuck in memory forever.
    So looking at the VideoPlayer and it's skin parts, I'm not seeing any event listener being removed when I remove the instance I have of the VideoPlayer. Why is that? Why the component does not remove it's skin parts event listeners?
    Are you changing skins? If so, I bet the parts would be removed as expected. The partRemoved method is not being called because it's not needed. If you remove the parent component, than any reference encapuslated within that component are removed as well.Fire up the profiler if you don't believe me.
    I'm interested in the skin parts and states relation. With includeIn and excludeFrom you define in which states the component is added to or removed from as a child (element). So If I have a skin part which is required=true and I have 2 states from one of which it is excluded... whouldn't that result in a runtime error since the part is not there but it is required?
    I'm pretty sure that it only checks if the instance exists, and does not care if it has been created and added to the display list. I do not really know for certain though. This could easily be answered with a simple test.

  • ActiveX component in Flex

    My doubt is how can we bring or embed ActiveX visual component in Flex UI(inside an SWF)
    Regards
    Aravind Mohandas

    I didn't think you could.
    I understood that ActiveX controls do not run as browser plugins and are therefore outside of the Browser security sandbox.  Flex is a browser plugin and is locked into the browser's security sandbox.
    Depending upon what the ActiveX controld oes you could convert it to Flex.

  • Flex problem - undefined method

    Hello!
    I was following the tutorial posted at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/articles/lcdses2_mdd_quickstart.html but I'm getting an error just after I add the form.
    I'm getting the following error message:
    "1061: Call to a possibly undefined method commitRequiredOn through a reference with static type mx.data:DataService. ProductForm.mxml /FiberTest/src/FiberTest/forms line 89 Flex Problem"
    This is in the code for ProductForm.mxml, and the same goes for lines 171, 178, 184 and 191.
    Could anybody help me here?
    Thanks!!

  • How to use FC to make a sub-component for Flex

    Most of the examples and tutorials I've seen so far assume you are creating the app itself in FC.
    However, what I need to do is create a custom component that will be a "screen" in a large Flex app, like a page in a Wizard.
    So if I was doing this without FC, I'd make a new mxml component in Flex, e.g. "WizardStep.mxml" and then in the main app,
    <mx:ViewStack>
         <h:WizardStep id="one" label="Step One" />
         <h:WizardStep id="two" label="Step Two" />
    </mx:ViewStack>
    For example, assuming I have set up the namespace "h" to like "com.handycam.*"
    How would I accomplish this scenario if "WizardStep" is what I have been building in FC?

    Thanks for your answer!
    Unfortunately it still doesn't work.
    In FC I used the file menu item "publish as swf" ( or however it's called in English -
    I'm also struggling with the -unwanted- German workspace terms). This generated
    the deploy-to-web and run-local folders. In Flex3, I imported haupt.swf (=main.swf)
    from the run-local folder.
    When I use the imported file in the Image tag with the
    loadForCompatibily attribute set to "true",the application compiles,
    opens the IE, the remaining LinkBar buttons are not affected - they
    show/run the Flash Pro .swfs and their controls,
    but the attempt to access the .swf in question produces:
    VerifyError: Error #1053: Illegal override of z in mx.core.UIComponent.
    at flash.display::MovieClip/nextFrame()
    at mx.managers::SystemManager/deferredNextFrame()[C:\autobuild\3.2.0\frameworks\projects\fra mework\src\mx\managers\SystemManager.as:319]

    at flash.utils::Timer/_timerDispatch()
    at flash.utils::Timer/tick()
    The alternative approach:
    <mx:SWFLoader x="3" y="35" width="970" height="425" loadForCompatibility="true" source="insets/haupt.swf"/>
    produces:
    VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flash.text.engine::TextLine could not be found.
    at global$init()
    If I code the SWFLoader tag as:
    <mx:SWFLoader x="3" y="35" width="970" height="425" loadForCompatibility="true" source="
    @Embed(source='insets/Haupt.swf')"/>
    I get the same errors as I did for the Image tag approach.
    Hope this helps.

  • Another Compiler Bug (message: An internal build error has occurred... Unknown Flex Problem)

    I was fighting with this problem for a few days. Finally I've got it resolved. I want to describe it and fill in BUG in the bug report, but I am not sure about Adobe support options. So, I am putting bug report here.
    1. ASSUMPTION: All problems which compiler reports as unknown problem are the real compiler BUGs/Problems. Eventually MXML compiler/ActionScript compiler should be able to take C++ or FORTRAN code or an aribitrary text and nicely tell "Error: It is not ActionScript (Flex) code" or "the code is corrupted from Line so and so...". When compiler crashed, it is most probably due to one of the states not handled (or not handled correct). Keeping this in mind I assume, that my code has nothing to do with the compiler crash.
    2. PROBLEM Description.
         - I tried to port our internal project from Flex3.5/Flex Builder 3 to Flex4.1/Flash Builder 4.
         - After checking out and trying to build code I start getting weird problems like Error 1037: Packages cannot be nested.
         - After cleaning and compiling project by project, walking up dependency tree, I was able to get rid of this problem.
         - On last Project I've got another problem (An internal build error has occurred... Unknown Flex Problem). Which I stuck with for a while.
         - When I checked log file I found following messages:

         - I was able to get this problem cleared by putting compiler option for Flex Application projects:  -keep-generated-actionscript

      I do not really see putting this compiler option as the solution and living with the mistery is making me fill a bit bad.

    Hi Faser,
    I just tried it on Vista with our latest FB Plugin build but
    I was unable to reproduce your issue with the following setup:
    - FB Plugin build installed by Administrator account user
    under her Documents folder
    - Administrator account user can launch, create Flex projects
    under her own workspace without any problems
    - Standard account user can launch the FB Plugin build (need
    Admin's password) and create Flex project (default location) under
    his own workspace
    If your setup is different, can you please log a bug at
    http://bugs.adobe.com/flex.
    Be sure to include what build you are using, whether it's
    reproducible, the detail of the setup, etc...
    thanks,

  • "Unknown Flex Problem" - 'flash.filesystem:File' is undefined.

    Hi,
    I have written an AIR ActionScript Library project using SDK 4.0.
    I had written code for most AIR components in the library, everything was working fine.
    I then needed to add code for components like FileSystemComboBox, FileSystemDataGrid, FileSystemList, etc.
    For this, I added airglobal.swc and airframework.swc to the library project.
    I am getting the following errors:
    'flash.desktop:Icon' is undefined.   Unknown    Flex Problem
    'flash.events:FileListEvent' is undefined.    Unknown    Flex Problem
    'flash.filesystem:File' is undefined.   Unknown    Flex Problem
    Im guessing that the flash package is present in both playerglobal.swc and airglobal.swc and this is giving rise to the problem internally.
    Can someone tell me how to overcome this?
    Thanks,
    Pradeep.

    I am writing a library for AIR based projects. Any AIR flex project should be able to integrate my swc into their project.
    The goal is automation.
    So, I am having trouble automating FileSystem components in SDK 4.0 only.
    The same is working fine in SDK 3.5 as it does not have a palyerglobal.swc included.
    Can I remove the dependency on playerglobal.swc in SDK 4.0?

    Hi,
    Thanks much for following up. Yes, my itemrenderer is defined inline and I did reference the dataprovider's group id via "outerDocument". • Problem Extending the  Dialog component from Flex

    I'm trying to extend the flex Dialog component () for usage in Xcelcius, I can package my component successfully and add it to the add-ons in Xcelsius. The problem is that if I try to drag and drop the component to the Xcelsius workspace, the component appears blank and halts the IDE a bit. Does anyone have an idea what I might be doing wrong?
    my code is as follows:
    package com.component.xcelsius.component
         import flash.text.TextFormatAlign;
         import mx.containers.TitleWindow;
         import mx.controls.Label;
         import mx.core.ScrollPolicy;
         [CxInspectableList ("title", "showTitle")]
         public class ErrorMessageHandler extends TitleWindow
              private var _titleChanged:Boolean = true;
              private var _valueChanged:Boolean = true;
              private var _titleText:String = "My Own";
              private var _showTitle:Boolean = true;
              private var _visible:Boolean = true;
              public function ErrorMessageHandler()
                   super();
              [Inspectable(defaultValue="Title", type="String")]
              public override function get title():String
                   return _titleText;
              public override function set title(value:String):void
                   if (value == null)  value = "";
                   if (_titleText != value)
                        _titleText = value;
                        _titleChanged = true;
                        invalidateProperties();
              override protected function createChildren():void
                   super.createChildren();
                   // Allow the user to make this component very small.
                   this.minWidth = 200;
                   this.minHeight= 25;
                   // turn off the scroll bars
                   this.horizontalScrollPolicy = ScrollPolicy.OFF;
                   this.verticalScrollPolicy = ScrollPolicy.OFF;
              override protected function commitProperties():void
                   super.commitProperties();
                   if (this._titleChanged)
                        this.title = _titleText;
                        this.visible = true;
                        this.showCloseButton = true;
                        invalidateDisplayList();  // invalidate in case the titles require more or less room.
                        _titleChanged = false;
                   if (this._valueChanged)
              // Override updateDisplayList() to update the component
            // based on the style setting.
              override protected function updateDisplayList(unscaledWidth:Number, unscaledHeight:Number):void
                   super.updateDisplayList(unscaledWidth, unscaledHeight);

    Hi,
    First of all make sure you compile your Flex project with Flex SDK 2.0.1 Hotfix 3?
    In the Add-on Packager carefully check your classname (the full class path + class name) because Xcelsius creates an instance of that class when you drag the add-on onto the canvas, so if it doesn't create anything usually it means your classname is wrong in the packager.
    In your case:
    com.component.xcelsius.component.ErrorMessageHandler
    If none of that works try extending from VBox as the top-level add-on class instead and see if that works (I have never tried with a TitleWindow).

  • Using Jumpeye Component in Flex

    Hi,
    has anyone successfully used Jumpeye's Drop Down Tree Menu
    Component V3 in Flex 3? It's a great component to use in flash, the
    submenus open and close on rollover/rollout (something I have not
    been able to acheive with the Flex menubar). I used the flex
    component kit to export the Jumpeye component from flash and
    imported the swc into flex builder (I also imported the relevant
    classes etc, inc faking an instance of mx.core.UIComponent(as per a
    document I found on afcomponent's site). It works great on a simple
    level (i.e. using defaults) but fails when I try to set any style
    properties (these are done via an xml file with tags predefined by
    Jumpeye in the component shim). I'm pretty new to Flex and am
    obviously doing something very wrong, however, Jumpeye were not
    able to help me as their focus is flash, although they commented
    that clients of theirs have used the component successfully within
    Flex.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Julie

    >>You will need to put a little code here to better
    understand, but as a guess, you might not have wrapped the
    MovieClip in a UIComponent before adding it to the Flex display
    list.
    No. If the symbol in Flash was converted to a Flex Component,
    this step is already taken care of.
    Follow the example by Peter Ent to check if you have setup
    the symbol in Flash correctly.
