"Unknown Flex Problem" - 'flash.filesystem:File' is undefined.

Hi,
I have written an AIR ActionScript Library project using SDK 4.0.
I had written code for most AIR components in the library, everything was working fine.
I then needed to add code for components like FileSystemComboBox, FileSystemDataGrid, FileSystemList, etc.
For this, I added airglobal.swc and airframework.swc to the library project.
I am getting the following errors:
'flash.desktop:Icon' is undefined. Unknown Flex Problem
'flash.events:FileListEvent' is undefined. Unknown Flex Problem
'flash.filesystem:File' is undefined. Unknown Flex Problem
Im guessing that the flash package is present in both playerglobal.swc and airglobal.swc and this is giving rise to the problem internally.
Can someone tell me how to overcome this?
Thanks,
Pradeep.

I am writing a library for AIR based projects. Any AIR flex project should be able to integrate my swc into their project.
The goal is automation.
So, I am having trouble automating FileSystem components in SDK 4.0 only.
The same is working fine in SDK 3.5 as it does not have a palyerglobal.swc included.
Can I remove the dependency on playerglobal.swc in SDK 4.0?

• Problems with using a variable of type flash.filesystem.File

I need to parse a file with my flex app. I can import flash.filesystem.File with no problem but if I try to create a variable of that type, it does strange things at run time. If the variable is defined inside a function, it's as if that function no longer exists. The function doesn't get called and I can't step into it. If I define a File variable at global scope, the swf simply won't do anything at all.
I've added all the AIR libs to my project and don't know what else to try at this point. Any ideas?
This sample code shows the problem. If I comment out the File in initData, initData doesn't get called and I can't step into it. If I comment out the global File, then I get a blank swf.

<mx:Application
xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" minWidth="955" minHeight="600"
initialize="initData()">
<mx:Script>

import flash.filesystem.File;
//private var file:File;
private function initData():void
//var file:File;
testLabel.text = "test";

</mx:Script>
<mx:TextArea y="200" id="testLabel" text="hello" />
</mx:Application>

sorry for my ignorance, I've only been using flex since 4.0
shouldn't you be using WindowedApplication rather than Application for an AIR app?
also there is no need to import File
below is my code that work's fine

<mx:WindowedApplication xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute"
initialize="initData()">

var file:File;
testLabel.text = "test";

</mx:Script>
<mx:TextArea y="200" id="testLabel" text="hello" />

• Another Compiler Bug (message: An internal build error has occurred... Unknown Flex Problem)

I was fighting with this problem for a few days. Finally I've got it resolved. I want to describe it and fill in BUG in the bug report, but I am not sure about Adobe support options. So, I am putting bug report here.
1. ASSUMPTION: All problems which compiler reports as unknown problem are the real compiler BUGs/Problems. Eventually MXML compiler/ActionScript compiler should be able to take C++ or FORTRAN code or an aribitrary text and nicely tell "Error: It is not ActionScript (Flex) code" or "the code is corrupted from Line so and so...". When compiler crashed, it is most probably due to one of the states not handled (or not handled correct). Keeping this in mind I assume, that my code has nothing to do with the compiler crash.
2. PROBLEM Description.
- I tried to port our internal project from Flex3.5/Flex Builder 3 to Flex4.1/Flash Builder 4.
- After checking out and trying to build code I start getting weird problems like Error 1037: Packages cannot be nested.
- After cleaning and compiling project by project, walking up dependency tree, I was able to get rid of this problem.
- On last Project I've got another problem (An internal build error has occurred... Unknown Flex Problem). Which I stuck with for a while.
- When I checked log file I found following messages:

3. RESOLUTION/WORK AROUND
- I was able to get this problem cleared by putting compiler option for Flex Application projects: -keep-generated-actionscript
4. SIDE NOTE
I do not really see putting this compiler option as the solution and living with the mistery is making me fill a bit bad.

Hi Faser,
I just tried it on Vista with our latest FB Plugin build but
I was unable to reproduce your issue with the following setup:
- FB Plugin build installed by Administrator account user
under her Documents folder
- Administrator account user can launch, create Flex projects
under her own workspace without any problems
- Standard account user can launch the FB Plugin build (need
Admin's password) and create Flex project (default location) under
his own workspace
If your setup is different, can you please log a bug at
http://bugs.adobe.com/flex.
Be sure to include what build you are using, whether it's
reproducible, the detail of the setup, etc...
thanks,
Sharon

• 1172: Definition flash.filesystem:File could not be found.

I get the error 1172: Definition flash.filesystem:File could not be found. when i attempt to import File class or any other class from the package flash.filesystem. I already installed Adobe AIR but it still doesn't work.

• Importing flash.filesystem.file

Hi all
i was making a functionality to upload an image ..
the package import flash.filesystem.file works in desktop app but in web app i am unable to import the package..how come this...

Actually, you can load an image directly into Flash Player using FileReference/load():
var file:FileReference = new FileReference();
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, click);
function click(e:MouseEvent):void {
file.browse([new FileFilter("JPEG", "*.jpg")]);
file.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, fileSelect);
function fileSelect(e:Event):void {
trace(file.name)
file.load();
file.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, fileComplete);
function fileComplete(e:Event):void {
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.loadBytes(file.data);
addChild(loader);

• Imporing mx.flash.filesystem package

Hi,
I am using Flex Builder 3 for development. I want to import mx.flash.filesystem.File package to write a file.

Do I need to add any library to my build path ? Please help me to resolve this issue.

You can't directly write to a file on the server. You need to use HTTPService to transfer the new XML data (or better to transfer as JSON data), and write to XML file from PHP script or some other server-side technology.
These links will show how to transfer data as JSON:

• Using flex4.1, Flash Builder giving error "flash.filesystem::StorageVolume could not be found."

Hi there,
I'm trying to copy some files to Storage Card on a AIR application. Is this possible with the latest version of the AIR SDK (2.0)?
I am developing in Flash Builder. I have downloaded the lastest flex sdk(4.1) and used it.
Flash Builder then recognises the StorageVolume and StorageVolumeInfo classes. However when I then run the app the debugger throws an error on the following line:
LINE:
var volumes:Vector.<StorageVolume> = StorageVolumeInfo.storageVolumeInfo.getStorageVolumes();
Note: I have imported both classes as well.

I'v read the article
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2984004#2984004,
and checked my application.xml, The content of the first two lines is:

• Flex problem - undefined method

Hello!
I was following the tutorial posted at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/articles/lcdses2_mdd_quickstart.html but I'm getting an error just after I add the form.
I'm getting the following error message:
"1061: Call to a possibly undefined method commitRequiredOn through a reference with static type mx.data:DataService. ProductForm.mxml /FiberTest/src/FiberTest/forms line 89 Flex Problem"
This is in the code for ProductForm.mxml, and the same goes for lines 171, 178, 184 and 191.
Could anybody help me here?
Thanks!!
Marcos

Hi saisri2k2,
I'm using Flash Builder 4 Standard, build 272416.
Thank you!

• How do I import SWC files created with Flex info Flash CS4?

I've created very nice UI component using Flex 3 and I have exported it into a SWC file.
How can I import it into Flash CS4 to use it there?

Hmm... if you happen to be familiar with C#, then you may probably know about the problem of P/Invoke (this is a command that lets you access Windows API through C# code, which will apparently prevent it from functioning on other OSs).
What happens with Flex framework is somewhat similar to this. I.e. it relies to much on the features of Flex compiler and the components of the framework create a lot of cross-dependencies, which makes them barely usable outside the framework.
So, if you have time and doing this just as a matter of learning, I'd suggest you start an AS project in Flex builder and advance with it compiling it both with Flex and Flash to see if there are any differences (basically, once you see it doesn't compile / doesn't behave as you'd expect in Flash, you'll know you used something that is specific to Flex). These would be mostly meta tags, like [Bindable] for example.
And, if you need any tutorials on how to code in pure AS, then, well, there are really to many So that you can even choose what's appropriate / goes better with your learning habits.
If you like video lessons, there're tons of them at gotoandlearn.com, if you prefer reading documentation, here you go: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/class-summary.html
if you prefer forums / written tuts, then, kirupa.com, actionscript.org, flashkit.com as well as Adobe forums will provide you with a lot of information.

• [svn:fx-trunk] 5811: Adding a Flex Builder Flash-Integration and Utilities project to make these files easier for people to work on .

Revision: 5811
Author: [email protected]
Date: 2009-03-31 11:20:19 -0700 (Tue, 31 Mar 2009)
Log Message:
Adding a Flex Builder Flash-Integration and Utilities project to make these files easier for people to work on. Flash-Integration is really an intermediate swc that Utilities uses. I've also modified the existing Flex Builder project for flex4tests to build against this new utilities project directly.
Also change the way FlashIntegration is built--we no longer have a manifest file and just include-classes FlashIntegrationClasses.as.

• Problem opening pdf file from an app built by Flash Builder 4.5

problem opening pdf file from an app built by Flash Builder 4.5

The iPad and iPhone have NEVER supported Flash and never will. In fact, Adobe is no longer distributing Flash builds to mobile devices.
Time to move on...

• Problems loading Adobe Flash SWF file

Our users are experienceing problems loading Adobe Flash SWF
files.
One example of a problem file is:
http://www.adobe.com/enterprise/accessibility/popup_acr8_accessibility.html
User traffic is flowing through a Cisco ASA firewall - these
problems do not seem to occur from home networks or a Netscreen
firewall. The Cisco ASA does NOT have http deep packet inspection
turned on, and any traffic initiated by clients inside the firewall
should be allowed. The symptom is that Internet Explorer will begin
to download the video, but will hang at some point along the way
(for this particular URL it hangs at about 7%). No error messages
are displayed, but the video never displays on the screen either. I
would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have run into this
before, or if someone can explain what is different about this type
of file from regular Adobe Flash, that might help figure out what
the ASA is objecting to. The ASA does not appear to generate any
log messages about denying this type of traffic either.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide...

Thanks, but I use publish/export settings with GPU hardware acceleration and flash version 11.2 (and 11.8) but nothing happening.
And why gif file is not all transparenty then I insert on lightblue background? It can't export good quality? Also I use Photoshop, After Effects, Adobe Edge Animate. And nothing happening. Egde animate file .oam is not good for old website navigation. It can't be inserted in freeshop site from navigation... I use logo file .oam just for example here - http://e-shoptagras.graphicsrim.eu
In reality I want swf file, but we don't find why logo flickering? here http://tagraseshop.graphicsrim.eu
All file's are transparenty - https://mega.co.nz/#!f8B2CD5R!J8uCJt9Sdq4Suz4HLhTHz8bzJcSWXMBIKcKZgkD3z8c
I need help! Please!

• The old Flash SWF files that don't update in pages created with templates problem

I hate to even ask this question again because I know it's
been posted many times. I've read all the answers I could find but
I'm afraid I still need help. I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 on a Mac.
I've gone in preferences and unchecked "insert using browser-safe
scripts" and "Convert tags" and I've tried to make my paths to the
SWF files relative to the site root but I just can't get it to
work.
There are about three articles on what the Site Root path can
be used for and why it's good or bad. I've read all those and I
guess I'm dense because I just can't figure it out. I select site
root from the "relative to" drop down menu and it makes no
difference whatsoever. I look at the code and it seems OK. This is
what it looks like:

<embed
src="/public/Images/Regional_Strength/Americas/Americas map.swf"
quality="high" pluginspage=
There are no ... before the directories and that's what it's
supposed to look like. The files still don't show. Part of me has
to wonder how the heck the html file would know which /image
directory the swf file is in because this particular site is one of
many self-contained site directories that sit in my public folder,
each site has it's own image directory. I thought maybe I'm
supposed to put the SWF files in the "image" directory right in the
first level of the public directory. I moved the files in there
changed the code to:

<embed src="/public/Images/Americas map.swf"
quality="high" pluginspage=
It doesn't work. Like I said, after reading the three or so
articles about the site root on the Adobe Help pages, I still don't
understand. I'd appreciate someone clarifying this for me.
Thanks

>
As a random educated guess, Is your local site folder defined
to the correct
folder? If it isn't, then dw can't make correct site root
relative paths.
Jumping to this from seeing the /public/ folder in the above
path.
Define the local site folder to the folder that directly
contains the site's
homepage index file.
Use the "host directory" line in the remote site info to
correct for any
required subfolder in the ftp setup. If public files need to
be placed in a
subfolder on the remote named public or public_html or htdocs
or www or
similar, put that folder name into the "host directory" line.
Also- to avoid problems adopt a file and folder naming
convention that
doesn't cause you to tear your hair out.
Americas map.swf
There is NO such thing as a blank space in a url. So don't
use blank spaces
in file or folder names.
A conservative naming convention would be to use only
a-->z and 0-->9 and
the _underscore. No blank spaces, no punctuation, no mixed
case.
Right-click on the file or folder in the dw Files Panel and
pick rename.

• Rename and place icon on title bar of Flash exe file problem

How to rename the title bar on Flash project file (.exe) and
replace the flash icon with my own icon file?
Thank you very much!

You need a 3rd part Flash projector tool, of which there are
quite a few:
