CF Line Debugging: CPU Load

I've enabled Eclipse Debuggin for my CF application. I managed this with the Line Debugging option within CF Admin, which works perfectly. The Problem is, that seconds after I activated the Line Debugger on my server, the CPU load goes to 100%. This slows down my server and the application.
I already tried to give more RAM to my CF Server, that wasn't helping.
Is there any solution to this problem?

Hello
>We changed our JVM versions, like you recommended but it didn't help very much.
Please note I suggested applying CF9 updater1 and mentioned that I was not sure what would happen JVM wise since updater1 normally uses JVM version 1.6.0_17 and you have applied 1.6.0_20. As reference to applying updater1:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=coldfusion
says in part:
Adobe recommends that all ColdFusion 9 users apply this complimentary 9.0.1 update.
Having said all that I am curious did updater1 in-fact switch to JVM 1.6.0_17 or leave the one currently in use 1.6.0_20?
Anyway none of that helps you. So to be clear you have a JRun.EXE that is CPU bound when debug is on and time out messages. Some details on the time out message would perhaps assist. With JRun.EXE being busy I am interested to know if it is logging anything that might relate in ColdFusion9\runtime\logs\coldfusion-out.log ?
HTH, Carl.

  • [Solved] Compiz eats up ~20% CPU load in idle after recent update

Today I noticed that Compiz eats up 10-30% of CPU load resulting in the CPU clock often go up to maximum. It might be related with the recent updates but it's not sure - maybe the problem appeared earlier and I just didn't notice it. Restarting Compiz doesn't help, restarting the whole system neither. • Does the iphone cpu frequency change when the cpu load is different?

Does the iphone cpu frequency change when the cpu load is different, or it does not change, stay a fixed frequency? if it changes, how can i get the realtime cpu frequency?if anyone knows, please tell me, thank you so much!!!

As a general, historical statement Tonefox is correct.  For certain particular cpus woodmeister is correct.  Cpus have historically been single frequency units, though over-clocking has been done for several years.  Doing so pushes the cpu beyond its guaranteed speed, but has tended to work since most cpus from quality vendors will actually operate at higher speeds.  The manufacturer just does not guarantee the results...remember the Pentium fiasco in the early years of that chip?  Today manufacturers are ceertifying particular product lines for over-clocking on a periodic basis.  And that is what dynamic clocking really is, over-clocking but not at a constant clock speed as has been done in the past.
Much of the silicon on the market will function at higher clock rates, the only question is does the maker guarantee the accuracy and performance at those clock rates.

  • CPU load / sound output

today i noticed that the cpu load goes up to 15% from 2% (in itunes) when i switch the sound output from line out to the integrated speakers! can anyone confirm this? this seems to be a systemwide issue because it happens with QT and VLC (mp3 playback only) too!

I've tried it, nothing. Everything stays @2-3% while switching back and forth. So it doesn't seem like it makes a difference. I have noticed though, the CPU sitting around 40% for a few minutes without having applications open, especially after I wake the computer from sleep.
Also, I'm assuming you're using OS X, and this is where I tried this.

  • High Xorg CPU load

    hi everybody,
i installed a fresh arch to my new acer aspire 1810tz and have a problem with xorg. after logging into my xfce, "top" displays between 80% and 85% cpu load by "X", sometimes for several minutes, sometimes just for short. the xorg logfile gives about a hundred times the following lines:
(II) PM Event received: Capability Changed
    I830PMEvent: Capability change
(II) intel(0): EDID vendor "CMO", prod id 4352
(II) intel(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines:
    (II) intel(0): Modeline "1366x768"x0.0   65.56 1366 1373 1408   768 769 772 776 -hsync -vsync (46.6 kHz)
i guess this is what causes the problem, although i'm not sure about that. i do not use an xorg.conf but hal and the "intel" driver with "intel_agp" and "i915" in mkinitcpio.conf MODULES section, as described in ArchWiki for kernel modesetting, maybe there is a relation between this?
    greetings!

    i've got news...
when starting powertop, the problem occurs immediately, but when additionally running glxgears, it doesn't occur, so i guess it really is a graphics processor powersave state problem.
i would guess that glxgears prevents the graphics processor from going to idle state and trying to save energy.
is there a possibility of selectively supressing pm events? or are there any other ideas what could help?
    greetings!

  • Safari and a strange high cpu load

I have noticed that recently when i start Safari my cpu load starts to get crazy.
CPU load on one core reaches 92%and falls to 10%, then another core gets 90% load and falls to normal. It is happening continuously. My MBPro get extremely hot and loud.
Everything gets back to normal when I quit or force quit Safari.
Any ideas what is going on?
Other browsers like Firefox and Opera act normally.
Safari Version 3.0.4 (5523.10.6), Mac OS X 10.5.1 all updates till today.
EDIT: I've just done Empty Cache in the browser and the problem disappeared.
    Message was edited by: Bartosz

Ok, I found out, why I had a high cpu utilization.
It wasn't Safari 5's fault, but I had a big host file for blocking ads.
After removing these ~15000 lines in /etc/hosts everything is fine again

  • CPU load and temperatures???

    Hi,
I have looked at some other posts, and don't see the same query, so here it is:
My 2009 13" Unibody MBP will overheat if I so much as look at it, or so it seems!. The issue here is that the fan will come on really loudly and the bottom of the machine will become unbearably hot under the following conditions:
    1. CPU load = 20%, temp = 76 C, browsing the web
    2. CPU load = 33%, temp = 77 C, watching an online video
    3. CPU load = 35%, temp = 82 C, watching a movie on lovefilm
    3. The lid of the laptop is closed, and I am carrying it in a bag
    4. I am charging it with the lid closed.
    5. Using an external monitor I have to keep the lid open and on battery use, otherwise it overheats and the fan come on loudly.
Obviously if I shut it down there is no fan noise, however it still gets hot when charging.
Does anyone else have these issues? I don't think I am loading the CPU very much, no gaming, no massive number crunching, just heat!!
Looking forward to hearing your opinions.
    J.

I would never carry a MBP in a bag unless it is completely turned off.
What I find out of line is: "1. CPU load = 20%, temp = 76 C, browsing the web"
If you have other applications open, then there may be an explanation for the high temperature.  Open Activity Monitor and see what else may be open.  Web browsing on my MBP is about 20 C less than what you are reporting.
The other temperature are not necessarily out of line.
    Ciao.

  • DMVPN phase 3 - scalability - nhrp generates high cpu load

    Hey all.
Been running into a scalability issues with DMVPN. Mainly caused (as I see it) by NHRP.
    Scenario:
IOS-SLB-based DMVPN solution in a dual-cloud setup. Practically it's 2 separate solutions with spokes having 2 tunnels (one in each cloud). See attachment sketch. We're running a phase 3 hierarchy design (trying at least)
    Spoke routers:
    - 2500 routers in a mixture of c871, c881, c2800, c2900. Need to scale to at least twice that.
    - Spoke-to-spoke is heavily used
    Farm routers:
    - Cisco 7201 with VAM2+. Around 1 router per 350 spokes (+1 for secondary tunnel)
    Superhub:
    - ASR 1004 (one for primary and one for secondary dmvpn-cloud).
We're not running any IPSEC between the farms and the superhubs. Just regular unencrypted DMVPN (mGRE).
    Problem:
    - NHRP is causing high CPU load on the ASRs. With around 2000 spokes up and running on DMVPN the CPU is overloaded with NHRP traffic. We're talking like 60-70% load caused by the NHRP process alone!
We're using 'ip nhrp interest' on all the spokes - and farms. We're in need of the spoke-to-spoke functionality so we allowing LAN-segments of our customers but denying everything else.
    Solutions?
    1. Turning off all NHRP resolutions? Basically remove any directly spoke-spoke communications (denying everything on the interest list). We can't go there since a lot of our customers are in dire need for directly spoke-spoke connectivity (due to latency). Haven't tested that it will actually give the much needed scalable solution either (we're facing around 5000 spokes in the next 2-3 years).
    2. Chopping the DMVPN solution up in lesser VPN-blocks. This will administratively be a nightmare.
    3. ?
Will really appreciate if anyone have a input here. It's really hard finding anything about a LARGE scale phase3 design on the web. Everything I find seems to mix stuff from small-scale phase 2 and 3 - making it rather messy cooking reciept for a small breakfast while I need a 7 course perfect dinner
When will Cisco come with an updated design guide btw?
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your quick reply.
Our ASRs (rp1) are acting as BGP RR while the farm routers are setup as RR clients.
We haven't tried connecting spokes directly to the ASRs but we have seen the same symptoms on the 7613s (sup720) and the 7200-platform.
Earlier the 7600 had the same role the ASRs have today. We were expecting that the ASRs should be doing "a better job" in terms of CPU load but we were wrong (NHRP generated around 10% more cpu load on the ASRs in comparison).
We concluded that the ASRs have a less optimized OS (coding) being rather new and all. Further we're not all happy about the stability of the platform (clear ip nhrp or taking a shutdown on the tunnel in the current situation will crash the router. 15.1(2)S1 and 15.1(3)S0a adv ip services). Haven't made a TAC case of it yet but will (has to be a bug as I see it since the 7200/7600 is handling this just fine).
Due to what I mentioned above I don't dare to debug the problem in production time and have to wait until the next scheduled maintenance window for some decent debug output (24. Oct).
We've contacted Cisco AS for assistance since it's hard to find local consultants (Norway) with enough knowledge of such scenario.
I just hope it's a config-issue and not a design issue, but we're willing to to whatever for this to scale to the thousands.

Ok.  I think I've found the root cause of this issue.  It seems that the WD Green drives use a thing called intellipark that will park the drive heads every 8 seconds.  When used under Linux the normal flush interval for a drive is 30 sec so what appears to be happening is that the heads on the drive are parking too quickly resulting in any flush to the drive having to re-spin up the drive to write, killing performance and killing the drive.  I don't know if this is causing the IO waits on my system but it seems likely.  Though it happens on mine with active IO so I can't see that it's the drive spinning down unless the idle detection on the drive is haywire.  Still.  It's something else to try.
This thread contains some information about it:
    http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showt … 327&page=1
Apparently WD have a dos utility that can disable or reprogram the park interval on these drives.  It's called wdidle3.exe and is hard to come by.
WD only hand it out per support request but I managed to find a link to the file on the web, I haven't used it yet so I can't vouch for it.  But if you want to try you can find it here:
    http://home.arcor.de/ghostadmin/wdidle3_1_00.zip
The next problem is requiring a dos boot disk.  If I can find my USB key I'll be making a USB Freedos disk so I can attempt to turn this off on my drive, then I can re-test.
I can't believe how seemingly hard it is for drive manufacturers (both the majors Seagate and WD), to get firmware and functions on these drives right.  If I could find a sales rep for seagate or WD I'd gladly return these drives... Rectally.
    Cheers,
    Arkay.

  • 'ubd' process huge cpu load

Since updating to 7.2 I have a weird issue with a process called ubd. It has a huge and constant cpu load of between 50-99%. This generates a lot of extra heat and fan noise to accompany that. Quitting the process or rebooting doesn't help.
I read somewhere that the process is iCloud related, but I tried disabling some iCloud services but that didn't seem to help either.
The console displays these lines all the time:
    16/10/2011 12:14:35.122 ubd: createSelfSignedCertificate - _createCert returned -25295
and after about 6 tries it exits with code: 254 and starts again.
I guess this isn't really normal, does anone know what might be up or how to fix this?

Good eye. I noticed the extra keychain entries but didn't think to 'trust' the certficiate. Though this has not resolved the issue of ubd spiking CPU usage and more certificates/keys being created (no matter how many I "trust").
FWIW: you can tail your ~/Library/Logs/Ubiquity/{username}/ubiquity.log and see the certficiate errors every few seconds.

  • 50% CPU load @ Boot: nmbd crash and reload bug

I have seen several threads here and around the net about samba on OSX using over 50% of the CPU without showing up in the activity monitor OR in top on the command line. While this is easily solved by unchecking the Windows Sharing service under System Preferences -> Sharing, this is not a fix. It just hides the problem, samba is still broken, and those of us who actually need windows interoperability are left with a machine that gets very hot, has poor battery life, and performs sluggishly.
Don't get me wrong, I am grateful to the people who actually found out what the problem is and how to get around it for a bit, but the problem is not "solved".
I've used *nix flavors for several years now and I have never seen this problem before. After having a MacBook for 8 days, I am now very frustrated.
So, what do we do to FIX the problem? An hour and a half on the phone with Apple Tech Support and I've learned that this problem has persisted through OSX 10.1 - 10.4.6, x86 and PPC. One person in these forums is trying (unsuccessfully I might add) to rebuild samba from scratch (for a different reason, they need ldap support: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2166703

I just diagnosed this problem on my new MacBook. I had seen that suddenly my CPUs would peg for no reason. Finally after a few days of frustrating work trying to identify the offending program I noticed that nmbd would be launched time and time again as a root process and the CPU load would correspond with it, but its process would not be shown consuming the cycles. Looking up what nmbd did I killed Windows file sharing and the problem was resolved. Looks like the program crashes and causes all of the load on the CPUs, but a debugger never comes up or message from the Finder saying it crashed. It was only consuming 1.25megs of RAM on my system before the problem would happen over and over. Looking on my friends MacMini with identical specs to my MacBook, his constantly uses about 3.58 megs of RAM. Process broken on MacBooks only? Dunno...
Yes it *****, but at least I know my computer isnt actually busted like I was beginning to suspect nor was it any of the various beta programs / haxies I may have been running. (Since all of them were gone once I did a clean install.) Maybe 10.4.7 will address it?

  • High CPU load when opening js file

Hi, whenever I am opening a particular js file, my CPU load is rising too high and it remains high even when I close Dreamweaver (somehow the process continues to run and I have to terminate it with the task manager).
This problem only happens when I open the particular javascript file. Sometimes some lines are marked with errors when there are in fact none. This javascript file contains jquery code which mostly uses the "on" function (used approx 50 times). I am thinking the problem is either related to jquery 1.9 or maybe to the "on" function.
    Update:
I found the problem. I had something like this $(this).on().on().on().on().on().on().on().on().on().on().on().on(); which was overloading my cpu. The solution is to split it.

Thank you for sharing your solution with us. Much appreciated!
    Thanks,

  • 90% cpu load on ubuntu 8.04

    Hello all,
I made a visualization for sorting algorithms. (The code is to long to post it here)
I developed the app under this system:
    Windows Vista Home x64
    Dualcore ~2.6GHz
    Java Version: 1.6.0 Update 7 32bit
and i have a cpu load of ~10% when i run the app.
I asked my friend to test the app under his OS:
    Ubuntu 8.04
    Dualcore ~2.2Ghz
    Java Version: 1.6.0 Update 7 32bit
and he got a cpu load of over 90%!
We both had no running tasks in background. It was only the java app.
Are there any known issues about this problem or could could it be a coding problem?
Btw the programm uses round about 8 Threads.
    TIA

Ok i try to specify a little bit more.
e.g.: I have this code snippet to check whenever the algorithm has finished.
    while (!algorithm.isIdle())
                                  try
                                       sleep(1);
                                  catch (InterruptedException e)
                                       clockRefresh.interrupt();
                                       setIdle();
}Without the sleep I have a cpu load of 50% (of course, because it is an endless loop until the algorithm has finished).
But with the sleep time it's just 1 or 2%.
I want to know if there is a known issue in the JVM that causes threads on some systems to use to much cpu load.
Or could it be a coding problem?
What do you think about the sleep time in this loop?
Or could the high cpu load be caused by bad coding? After reading this post I could not read further. There is the problem. You're doing a sleep(1) .....
Even in C that will most likely kill any cpu. Try to use joins: elegant and faster ;)

  • How do you spread CPU load over more cores?

    Hi
I recently bought a macbook pro quadcore i7 because my 2007 macbook couldn't cope with the demands of Logic when using it rewired with Ableton Live, and had lots of CPU overload messages.
I am really disappointed that having spent so much money to overcome this problem, it has only slightly improved the amount of overload messages. I read the article below about how to spread CPU power over the cores, now I have 8. I still can't figure out though how to control which channels are using which core and spreading the CPU load to cores 5-8 which don't seem to be being used. Any ideas?
Can I rewire from ableton to different cores?
In my project, the 2nd core keeps overloading whilst the others are down. Is it to do with aux channels, master channels, buses etc?
Or should I upload my memory to 8GB RAM?
    Thanks
    Steve
    Here's the article:
    About core activity
Logic breaks tasks down into threads that can be assigned to a single core for execution. It's not possible to split a single thread across multiple cores, although a single core may run multiple threads at the same time. This is one reason that you may sometimes see uneven load distributions across the available cores on your computer. If one thread is very processor-intensive, the core running that thread may show much more activity than the cores running less demanding tasks. This is the main reason that you may get "Core Audio Overload" warning messages even though some of the cores on your system may not show significant activity.
To monitor Logic as it uses the cores on your system, double-click the CPU meter in the Transport area.
A window displays a meter for each core.
The same concept applies to channel strips as well. Each channel strip—and all plug-ins it contains—is processed by one core. If you are using many processor-intensive plug-ins on a single channel strip, the core running it may show heavier activity. This is especially true if you are working at high sample rates (88.2 kHz or higher).
    Redistributing core loads
If you find that a single core has much higher activity, use these strategies to redistribute the load.
In the example below, there is a single Software Instrument channel strip with plug-ins routed directly to Output 1-2. The channel strip for Output 1-2 has a large number of plug-ins.
In this example there is activity on two cores:  the left core is handling the Software Instrument while the next core processes the Output 1-2 channel strip. You can use routing capabilities in Logic to distribute the load to more cores without changing the sound, as in the next image.
The resulting signal chain is Inst 1 > Aux 1 > Aux 2 > Out 1-2, as shown in this table:
    Channel strip
    Input
    Output
    Inst 1
    Bus 1
    Aux 1
    Bus 1
    Bus 2
    Aux 2
    Bus 2
    Out 1-2
Also, the first four plug-ins have moved from Output 1-2 to Aux 1 and the remaining four plug-ins to Aux 2.
After adjusting the volumes to the respective channel strips appropriately, the result sounds identical, but now the load is distributed among four cores instead of two. You can use this concept to redistribute plug-ins from Audio channel strips, Software Instruments, Auxes, and Outputs (as in this example).
In the image above, there is still a very heavy load on a single core, even though it's using the routing described above. Notice the Inst 1 channel strip is selected. When a Software Instrument track is selected in the Arrange window, Logic enters "Live Input Mode". In this mode, Logic turns on every plug-in in the channel strip's signal path so the channel strip can be played live from a MIDI controller. All of this must be handled by a single thread and therefore just one core. It's a good idea to keep a track that uses an Audio channel strip selected in the Arrange window, unless you're actively playing or recording to a Software Instrument.

OS X Snow Leopard introduced Grand Central, where the OS will distribute the load better to more cores, however it takes time for software to adapt to these changes and make a rewrite of the codebase and test it out, Apple's included.

The kernel is using excessive processor cycles. Below are some possible causes for the condition.
    Throttling
When it gets high temperature readings from the hardware, or a low-voltage reading from the battery, the kernel may try to compensate by interrupting the processor(s) to slow them down and reduce power consumption. This condition can be due to:
☞ a buildup of dust on the logic board
    ☞ high ambient temperature
    ☞ a worn-out or faulty battery in a portable
☞ the malfunction of a cooling fan, a temperature sensor, a voltage sensor, or some other internal component
Note that if the problem is caused by a sensor, there may be no actual overheating or undervoltage.
If the computer is portable, test with and without the AC adapter connected. If kernel_task hogs the processor only on battery power, the fault is in the battery or the logic board. If it happens only on AC power, charging is causing the machine to heat up. That may be normal on some models. CPU usage should drop when charging is complete.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a fault. For more thorough hardware testing, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If nothing is wrong with the hardware, then whatever you can do to improve cooling may help.
    Installed software
User-installed software that includes a device driver or other kernel code may thrash the kernel. That category includes virtualization software, such as Parallels and VMware, as well as most commercial "anti-virus" products. Some system-monitoring applications, such as "iStat," can also contribute to the problem. You can test for this possibility by completely disabling or removing the software according to the developer's instructions, or starting in safe mode. Note, however, that disabling a system modification without removing it or testing in safe mode may not be as easy as you think.
    Corrupt NVRAM or SMC data
Sometimes the problem is cleared up by resetting the NVRAM or the SMC.
    External display
Connecting an external LCD display to some MacBook Pro models while the lid is open may cause this issue. If applicable, test by closing the lid or disconnecting the display. You might get better results with a newer LED display.
