Cf7 to cf8 - uninstall cf7?
I can't remember why, but when I installed CF7, I left CF
MX(6) on my system - think it said I needed to leave it there, but
maybe I'm wrong. So I'm ordering CF8 (all standard versions) soon
and wondering if I can uninstall 7 (and 6) once 8 is up and
running. I've looked through the only Installation document I could
find (112 pages) and couldn't find a thing on upgrading.
If you know that you want to uninstall all previous versions
of CF with
your upgrade, it is usually simpler and cleaner to uninstall
them before
the upgrade. AS ksmith said, doing so afterwards can make the
CFIDE
folder disappear. You just need your license key of the
previous
version to enter into a form box when the upgrade installer
asks for it.
Some people like to keep the previous version running in
parallel to the
new version for validation purposes. But if you are not going
to do
this, you might as well go with the clean install.

Hello All,
We're having trouble trying to upgrade from CF7 to CF8 on a
Unix box (Sun). We ran an upgrade installation of CF8 so as to keep
our current settings. We gave the installer the same JRun path we
used for CF7. But Apache continues to talk to CF7. When we start
CF8 and shutdown CF7 and hit our CF apps we get "500 Server"
errors. I checked the JRun section of Apache's httpd.conf file.
JRun references all point to the where JRun should have been
overwritten by the new install. I tried running:
jrun_root/runtime/bin/wsconfig -server coldfusion -ws Apache
-dir apache_root/conf -coldfusion -v
and got the error,
"The JRun server(s) found on host 127.0.0.1 must be upgraded to
use this version of the Web Server Configuration tool. I then
checked to see if there were a mod_jrun20.so somewhere in
jrun_root/runtime. But, I didn't find one. There's only the
one in
jrun_root/lib/wsconfig/1 which I assume to be the one that's
part of the CF7 install.If you have the space, and CFMX7 is not running, then that
should be fine. There is no "best practice" link or technote that I
could find to address your concern, but if you want to uninstall
CFMX 7, you can just backup the CFusionMX7 directory and uninstall.
your CFMX7 settings are stored in your CFusionMX7/lib directory
under the neo-*.xml files. More info on this technote:

It *should* work fine if you install CF8 over your current
CF7 and I
think 90% of the time it is fine. But I have read many posts
about the
headaches users have experienced that small percent of the
time when it
is *not* fine.
If you are not concerned about migrating CF7's settings and
configurations into CF8, it maybe slightly safer to uninstall
CF7 and
install a clean CF8. -
Coexistence of CF7 and CF8 on one server
I have CFMX 7.2 running on a server using the external web
server, IIS6. I have installed CF8 in the multiserver configuration
onto the same server. What I read is that for these to coexist the
CF8 needs to be installed on the built-in web server (also what CF
apparently automatically does when the multiserver configuration is
installed).
One of my questions is this - if I have CF7 using the
external web server can I NOT run the web configuration tool and
connect my CF8 instances to the external web server also?
Another question is this - CF8 uses the webroot of
jrun4\servers\instancename\instance-ear\instance-war . I want the
developers to store their documents somewhere else. I have done the
virtual mapping in the jrun-web.xml but I can't get anything to
work when I do that. Is there anyway to point something to the
location of the users files and have them resolve them on a
website?You can get ColdFusion 7 and 8 running in both server install
mode connected via an external webserver and also via the JRun
multiserver setup. Here's some links to guides on doing both which
should help. Note they'll both need some manually config file
changing, you can't do it all with the wsconfig util.

Cfdocument printing issues: cf7 vs cf8
Here's what happens when I create a pdf with
<cfdocument> on CF7 vs CF8:
CF7
The generated pdf is 16 pages and 87.6 KB. When I print the
pdf the progress bar in acrobat fills up immediately. The total
size in the print spooler is 1.18MB
CF8
The generated pdf is 16 pages and 622 KB. When I print the
pdf the progress bar in acrobat takes almost 3 minutes to get to
100%. The total size in the print spooler is a whopping 75.5MB
I am using fontembed="false", but that seems to have no
effect on the actual filesize either. Also, on the CF8 document I
can click all over the place and get these 1/2" x 1/2" blue cubes
that show up. They are exactly like the ones you get if you click
on an image, only they are in random areas all over the place. One
other thing, when I save the CF8 pdf, there is a progress bar in
the lower right that says "optimized for fast web viewing". It
doesn't do that for CF7.
What is going on here, and what can be done? Users are not
able to print anything out in a timely fashion. Thanks.
EDIT:
If I don't import my 3KB css file, the pdf behaves like it
does in CF7, minus the formatting of courseThere was a background image in the css that was causing the
issue, but it was only a problem when using @import to get the css,
and only in CF8. -
What are the recommended steps to upgrade from CF7 to CF8
I have read all of the documentation for how to upgrade from
CF 7.02 to CF 8. Well there is actually only one blurb in all of
the CF docs.
"Upgrade installation You can upgrade from ColdFusion MX,
ColdFusion MX 6.1, and ColdFusion MX 7. When upgrading from
ColdFusion MX, ColdFusion MX 6.1, or ColdFusion MX 7, the installer
preserves the existing settings and installs in a new directory,
automatically assigning ports that do not conflict with the
existing installation."
OK that sounds simple enough, so i went ahead and installed
it. Well it did not work, now I am stuck somewhere between 7 and 8.
My basic step, as I can best recall at 1:00AM.
* Select Multi server Configuration
* Select install path, I used D:\JRun4
* This is where my existing cf7 install was located
* installer told me port 8300 was being used so it gave me
port 8306 instead
* Selected d: for ColdFusion8DotNetService install path
* Select Passwords for admin and rds
* installed cf
* received error after install
(Adobe_ColdFusion_8_InstallLog.log)
ANT Script Error:
Status: ERROR
Additional Notes: ERROR - jrun.xmlUnable to remove existing
file D:\JRun4\bin\jrun.exe
* rebooted
* can't login to cfadmin at port 8306
* tried to login to cfadmin at port 8300, everythin works
* it appears the cf7 services are still running,
* didn't notice any new cf8 services, excpet the dotnet
stuff
Any assistance would be appriciated.

Essentially CF comes with the updates that will become JRun 4
Updater 7
integrated into it. (The beta of Updater 7 is under way).

Use the CAR file, XML file formats have changed between
versions.

What you are describing is a simultaneous update of JRun and
CF. For
just an update of CF you need to redeploy the CF EAR file as
described
in the JRun manual. For just an update of JRun you have to
wait until
updater 7 is released (or join the beta and file bugs if you
don't like
the procedure).
> Another possible option would be to update JRUN with the
latest release,
The latest release is only updater 6.

the JRUN console and

Use a CAR file for that.

as clean at all.
In place upgrades are never clean. In my book, an upgrade
means
rebuilding from scratch.

Hi,
I have to upgrade an existing production server from CF7
Standard Edition to CF8 Standard Edition and have not found any
upgrade instructions specific to this version. I am running this on
a Win2003 Server using IIS as the web server.
Is it as simple as downloading the latest build of CF8,
installing as a standard edition and supply my upgrade Serial
Number?

Hi
I'm doing an upgrade from GW2012 sp1 to gw2014
We also have Datasync 1.2.5
GW2014 says update to GMS 2.0 before upgrading to gw 2014
GMS 2.0 requires GW2012 sp2
Do I need to update GW2012 sp1 to GW2012 SP2 (as GMS2.0 reqiures) before
I can upgrade to GW2014
or;
Can I stay on GW2012 sp1, upgrade to GMS2.0 and after that to GW2014
skipping the GW2012 SP2 step ?
/mats
I doubt you will run to any issues if you don't upgrade to 2012SP2.. Will you run GMS 2.0.1 for a long time against 2012 before upgrading to 2014SP1?

Does CF8 Report Builder work with CF7?
Title says it all. I have CF7 and I recently uninstalled CF7
Report Builder. I saw CF8 Report Builder on the adobe downloads
page and wondered if it works with CF7 (minus the new features of
CF8).Hi Tarun,
The runtime distribution packages are for licensed users who have developed an application. As long as your app is for internal use only then there are no extra fee's. However if you are selling or installing your application outside of your company then please contact our Sales team to purchase a one time deployment license package.
As for making CR 2008 runtime work on and in 64 bit OS's, it won't happen. CR 2008 is 32 bit only. Next version of CR has both 32 and 64 bit runtime but it's currently beta only and should not be installed in a live production system.
Your other options are to use VS .NET 2008 and CR 10.5 runtime which does have a 64 bit runtime package but is limited as to which database types you can connect to and export types you can export the report to.
Thank you

Cfhttp error on CF7 but not CF8 - need help
I have been battling this for a few days now, and I am starting to go a bit insane. So, I am hoping someone can offer some assistance.
I am trying to make a call to the Live Contacts API. On CF8, I can get this to work but on CF7 it throws an error:
<cfhttp url="#theURL#" method="get" result="httpResult">
<cfhttpparam type="header" name="Authorization" value="DelegatedToken dt=""#dt#""" />
<cfhttpparam type="header" name="Accept-Encoding" value="*" />
</cfhttp>

theURL and dt are dynamically created with the info returned from the consent token. This process fine and they are what they should be. But there is a difference between versions that is throwing it off. My theory is that it is a charset issue. I ran into similar with Gmail Contacts API on CF7 v CF8. I was able to get that resolved by using: charset="utf-8". However, that doesn't work for Live. <cfhttp url="#theURL#" method="get" result="httpResult" charset="utf-8">.
I have tried about every combination I can think of but still get a connection error. On CF8 servers (tested on two different ones) it worked perfect.
In googling and looking at forums, I notice this in reference to an SSL issue. I don't think that is the case here, as one of my servers doesn't have an SSL in use that would affect things. But, it is in a hosting environment, so maybe.
I think I am missing something small or some combination of headers or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated...and maybe ever rewarded with a Starbucks GC! If you have any questions or need any more info let me know.
Thanks.also sent to you on twitter:
you have:
<cfhttpparam type="header" name="Authorization" value="DelegatedToken dt=""#dt#""" />
try:
<cfhttpparam type="header" name="Authorization" value='DelegatedToken dt="#dt#"' />
note the use of single and double quotes.
not sure if that would cause it but worth a shot.
Does the Live API require that the dt be surrounded by double quotes? -

This is a client's server so I have limited knowledge of
configuration that isn't obvious. I did notice that outbound port

the current sites running on this server are reachable. I also
noticed FuseTalk is installed Any pointers as to what the issue

The first suggestion is to check the Actual File Size and MD5
Checksum
of the file. Assuming you are installing from a download file
as is
common, the file may be incomplete.
The ColdFusion Download page provides the expect values.

Missing falshservices gateway in CF8
I recently upgraded my development CF from 7 to 8. I use IIS

Realizeing that CF7 was still there, after much testing of
sites on CF8, I uninstalled CF7. I had copied the CFIDE folder
because it was in the inetpub/wwwroot tree and was afraid it might
get lost. The uninstall did remove that CFIDE folder; but, I copied
it back.
Now I'm noticing that anything that relies on flash remoting
isn't working. Some direct flash swfs and getting data into some of
the flash forms (cfform).
I tried a fla directly that uses flash remoting and got the
message:
Error opening URL '

My remoting components are still there in flash, but
somewhere I lost something critical. But, not sure what!
Appreciate any help!
Thanks

I have been using CF7 for some years. I have now uninstalled
CF7 and installed CF8. From looking at the Administrator, it
appears all my previous settings, including ODBC mapping have
migrated. When I try to view a page in my HTML editor (where the
mappings have been correctly set) I get a blank screen. What do I
need to do to get this working? There is not phone support.
PeterDoes it matter if my websites are not hosted under
\inetpub\wwwroot where the cfide directory is located?-- i have
them in a separate directory \websites -- could that be why it is
not able to load those? i do not have a problem with the
administrative ide loading.
i will try creating a site under the inetpub root and see if
it makes a difference -
CF8, Multiple instances, archiving
I have a CF7 server installed as a stand alone installation.
I have installed CF8 on the same box with the built-in web server,
and multiserver. My developers want the multiple instances so they
can use Subversion, versioning software.
I am trying to understand how I can setup instances and only
have to change one setting so that all instances change without
having to manually make the change on each instance.
I have archived all of the settings in a J2EE EAR. I setup my
first instance and used that EAR. The only files it put in that
server folder were the jrun files, no cfusion-ear. When I tried to
open the instance website or run the CFAdmin from within the
instance it fails. When I install it without using the EAR then the
install puts the cfusion-ear in the server folder and the website
works and the cfadmin works.
When I use the Web Server Configuration and connect the
instance with and IIS website then all I get when I try to bring up
the website or CFAdmin from within the Instance is the error that
ACL's are failing.
Who can I talk to that would answer my hundred's of questions
regarding what I am doing with Instances?No problem now. I finally figured out how to make all of this
work on 1 box. I have CF7 running along side of CF8. CF7 is using
the external web server and CF8 is using multiserver with the
built-in web server.
I have CF7 running as it always has and CF8 running with 10
instances, each with their own web site.
My problem turned out to be the permissions on the jrun4
folder. As soon as I replicated the ACL's on JRUN4 that I had on
CFUSIONMX7 then everything worked.
I think these permissions must be documented somewhere but I
sure couldn't find them. -
Cfdocument - CF8 hotfix expected?
Ok, so I understand that Adobe has installed some type of fix
on thier systems to rectify the problems of scaling with the
<cfdocument> tag. A poster from Adobe sent a response to me
that he couldn't see the problems I was having becuase he had the
"fix" installed about this topic a month ago.
Does anybody know when this "fix" will be available to the
rest of us CF8 users? We had a massive emergency redesign from
absolute positioning to relative positioning when the bugs reared
their ugly heads on our upgrade from CF7 to CF8. I would like to
get to the point of creating the pages properly as opposed to
having to continually build in work-arounds for the current bugs
(just to have to go back and re-design when [or if] it does get
fixed).Here is the link in case you didnt get them yet

works on either CF8 nor CF9.
<cfdocument format="pdf"
pagetype="A4"
unit="cm"
localURL = "no"
fontembed="yes"
backgroundvisible="no">
klicket
<img src="/inc/bci.cfm?text=1234567890123456789" alt=""
border="0" />
<img src="/pix/klicket_provision.gif" border="0" />
<img src="/inc/datamatrix.cfm?klicket=klicket ist das
geilste, was es gibt höhö" width="150" alt="klicket"
/>
<br />
</cfdocument>
Neither the static pic nor the dynamic pics appear, just red
crosses.
Can anybody shed some light on this problem?
Again: In CF 7, everything works, but CF8.0.1 and CF9 beta
don't show images
Desperate ... cause we cannot leave CF7 although we want to
for CF8 ...
Thanks
MartinNoone? Any hint, help, settings greatly appreciated
