CFUPDATE character restriction
The problem I'm having is that if I use CFUPDATE or CFINSERT
and go over around 400 characters in the submitted text area it
bombs out. I don't know the exact amount of characters but if I
remove some text there is no issue. Does anyone know why this is
happening? If I uses a query with just UPDATE I can add as much
text as I want, but CFUPDATE limits me. Any help is greatly
appreciated!

Well, the way i have my site coded it would take a lot of
rework to change it to a standard UPDATE query. I was hoping there
was some kind of fix to allow CFUPDATE to insert more characters.
The DB column is the same for both queries and I have run into no
input limitations with the UPDATE.

I have found the following special character restrictions in the documentation:
"Because they are handled specially by the Native XML driver, do not use the following special characters to define element types and attributes in your XML schema:u201C.u201D, u201C/u201D, u201C\u201D, u201C:u201D u201C@u201D."
After checking the createad XML-Files in our projects that we will use for CR4E there is often a u201C.u201D in the definition. Because this is delivered from third-party, we wish that the u201C.u201D will be enabled.
In the moment we create the XSD-Files from the XML-File with XML2XSD.
It is possible in the future?

Character Restriction in Node Name
Hi,
Anyone can advise where the character restriction is set for a node name (member name).
I want to add a member into a hierarchy, but I does not allow me to enter the following characters:
(space), + ( ) & %. Everytime I type the character, it just like the keyboard has been locked. No message or
error saying the character is not allowed because of a specific validation.

For example, if the account name is used in HFM, then do not allow + - character in any of the name.
While if the account name is used in Essbase only, allow the use of + - character?

TextField maximum character restriction
i have a textfield then must include maximum 2 character, i handle it by the following way;

but, is there any attribute to restrict the textfield's length automaticly?No not yet. There was such a feature but it wasn't ready for the GA so I had to remove it. The problem with your implementation is that it doesn't take pasted code into account. I think what I would do is subclass TextField and create a new Content to be used. This new implementation of Content would wrap the normal one, but would impose the two character limit.
I think that would work, though I haven't tried it.
BTW, the wrinkle I hadn't resolved (which is why this maximumLength property didn't make it in the 2.0 GA for TextField) was what should happen when a TextField has 20 characters, but then programmatically the maximum length is set to 15 chars. Do we throw away the last 5 chars? Throw an exception? Allow the TextField length to exceed the maximumLength?
I guess the right answer is to throw away the last 5 chars and enforce the invariant that the number of chars is always <= the maximumLength. But I didn't have time to sort it out. What do you think?

What is the instance name of your input textfield? The

But my system is having a host name which includes the domain name and obviously goes beyond 13 characters.

Why your host name includes the domain name?
Also make sure that your computer name (host name) contains alpha-numeric chars.

Is there some restriction on the number of characters that can be submitted to the BAPI_PO_CREATE1 Potextheader TextLine? I have binded my context node in a WebDynpro application to a TextEdit box, but the text Edit box will only display and submit partial text and not the entire comment that I am trying to enter into the to SAP backend header text for the PO. It is proving to be extremely difficult to enter some text for comments on a PO. I am new to SAP. Any help greatly appreciated!

There is no limitation on the number of charachters in the PO header text. But I guess you are using just one line in the text table. Each line has 255 charachters and there can be n number of lines. In you Webdynpro context you will have to bind it to the table type rather than just the line. You can use the type STRING_TABLE in the context which is bound to the text edit and then use that to pass the data back to the BAPI function module. That might solve your problem.

Subject in the mail truncating after 50 character

I am working on ESS Leave request. Mail is going to external mail ids. The subject line after 50 character the letters are getting truncated. We are in SAP_BASIS = SAPKA70015. I have already checked the notes 958426,975947 this is implemented in SAPKA70010 and SAPKA70011 respectively. We are much higher version than that. Still its getting truncated. How to solve this issue.

I investigated this some time ago, and there really is a restriction in the standard mail sending functionality - the title can only be 50 characters. At that point there was no fix for this. Your alternatives are:
1) try to live with it (keep the titles short)
2) build your own mail sending task/method (there are some function modules that you can use, and there is no 50 character restriction).

If you are referring to NWAS ABAP 7.x the answer is: no - there are no restrictions (except the [hard-coded password rules|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/d2/141fb593c742b5aad8f272dd487b74/content.htm]), use can use all Unicode characters (if you are having a Unicode system, otherwise you should restrict yourself to ASCII characters since those are available in all codepages / logon languages).
Only if you set the profille parameter login/password_downwards_compatibility = 5 then profile parameter login/password_charset is of relevance (see posting of Julius Bussche).

Special Character Validation and Reset Focus

I have developed an Webdynpro JAVA Application which carries many input Fields.
Client side Validations needs to be handled for Special Character Restriction for each of the Fields.
Validation handled through OnEnter or OnChange Events of a Particular Field shows the exception but clicking other fields made the exception ignored.
My Requirement goes this way.

On click of Validation button exception should be raised for all the Fields that has invalid Characters .
It Should be displayed in Message Area( Using MessageManager) which should carry Field Name causing the Exception. On clicking the Exception it should take the Cursor the Erroneous Field.
Kindly share the Methods of any standard Interface which does this job or customized methods if any?

Bulk Create Users from CSV: Error: "Put": "There is no such object on the server."?

I'm using the below PowerShell script, by @hicannl which I found on the MS site, for bulk creating users from a CSV file.
I've had to edit it a bit, adding some additional user fields, and removing others, and changing the sAMAccount name from first initial + lastname, to firstname.lastname. However now when I run it, I get an error saying:
"[ERROR] Oops, something went wrong: The following exception occurred while retrieving member "Put": "There is no such object on the server."
The account is created in the default OU, with the correct firstname.lastname format, but then it seems to error at setting the "Set an ExtensionAttribute" section. However I can't see why!
Any help would be appreciated!

Odata JDBC Service: getting NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method

I am testing OData, for that I followed the steps given in this tutorial:

It wasn't working as it should, so to understand it better, I created a new project with Stock table only.
Manually entered all it's properties and then deploy it.
Issue1: when I create a JDBC connection to connect with derby database, The driver field has maximum limit and whole driver string is not copied. Attached is the screen shot.
Where as I need to enter: org.apache.derby.jdbc.ClientDriver.
Issue 2: I can't test the connection from here, weather it's working fine or not ?
Issue 3:
When I deploy the project and test the result, I get the Stock Service, But when I try to run this, I get nullpointer exception.

Issue1: when I create a JDBC connection to connect with derby database, The driver field has maximum limit and whole driver string is not copied. Attached is the screen shot.
Are you working on SMP3.0 (lower version than SP03)?
If yes, then there is character restriction in SMP3.0 (SP00, SP01), maximum length for a database driver is 25 characters.
e.g. if driver name is oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver but when you enter this, then you will see onlyoracle.jdbc.driver.Oracle
Until unless we pass the correct driver value things will not work. there is a workaround for this. You create a desitnation with restricted character length.
You would be seeing a property file for each created destination underC:\SAP\MobilePlatform3\Server\config_master\service.destinations\destinations
Go there and open the created "OracleDB" and edit the "DriverName" to the full string:oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver

I didnt find a way to test a destination. So you have to be sure about what all values you are entering.
Once you are done with Destination creation, map it to the respective deployed service under "services" tab.
Issue 3: When I deploy the project and test the result, I get the Stock Service, But when I try to run this, I get nullpointer exception
Make sure you have corrected "Database driver" name manually. And then check if you are facing same issue.
Does this URL expect any input parameters?

Vibe 3.2 problems with special characters?
I'm not sure where the issue lies here, the client or Vibe, so I'll throw
this out there to see if anyone has run into this problem. I have a user
with a + sign in their password. If he tries to log in from either his
Android phone or his Android tablet, he gets a bad password error. Using a
different browser on the tablet, he was able to get logged in. Using my
Android phone, he was also able to get logged in.
Are there any known issues with Vibe not supporting certain browsers for
special characters in passwords? I don't think he had the problem with Vibe
3.1.

SelectOneMenu inside h:dataTable gives conversion error
Hi guys,
I'm enduring quite alot of misery attempting to put selectOneMenu UI components in my h:dataTable. Due to the 30000 character restriction, I can only submit my view and backing bean and DTO and the converter (even though the total characters of my files is only 26,583? [cat * | wc -c]). Perhaps you can figure out a way I can send me all my files and you'll be able to test it much easier.
The jist of the problem is that I get a conversion error between the selectOneMenu and the backing DTO of the <h:dataTable>. After I define a converter I get a ClassCastException.
My BIGGEST question is "Why do I even need a converter?", the selectItem(s)/options are hardcoded label/value Strings and so is the the property of the dataTable row's backing DTO!!!
Here's the files, any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
