CGContextGetCTM: invalid context 0x0 errors on OSX

It would appear that the latest version of Java (as supplied by Apple Update) and/or the latest version of OSX do not get along as well as they should. If you search for one of the error messages below you will see a lot of people are getting these error messages (usually in some console output window or script) but I'm not sure if Oracle / Apple are aware of the problem and indeed if it's Java or OSX update related. Apparently the latest Java 7 from Oracle does not correct the error.
<Error>: CGContextGetCTM: invalid context 0x0
<Error>: CGContextSetBaseCTM: invalid context 0x0
<Error>: CGContextGetCTM: invalid context 0x0
<Error>: CGContextSetBaseCTM: invalid context 0x0
As far as I can tell it's not actually preventing anything from working. I get the output below in my Eclipse IDE console output window along with all my other logger output.
Where would I need to look to see if there is a proper bug report registered and if there is a patch/update pending.
Took me ages just to get an account working on this website - the Oracle user logon process seems very unreliable and unpredictable.

Maybe I can narrow down the search for causes.
My Java application produces the exact same error message only when I execute those lines:
final java.net.URL url = ProjectVanNimwegenBacteria.class.getResource("gui/media/IconMotherMachine64.png");
final Toolkit kit = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
final Image img = kit.createImage(url);
guiFrame.setIconImage(img);
If I take them out they vanish.
Hope that helps,
Florian

    I keep getting a repetitive message in Console about Safari (even after the Mac OS X 10.9.3 Update). Can someone please tell me how to make this go away? I have only installed Safari from the Mac App Store with Mac OS X updates or Safari updates. Therefore, how can I fix this problem, as the error message states? This is an Apple software problem ...

    I am getting spinning wheels on launching Apple apps (Mail, iPhoto, Finder etc). At log in my dock is taking literally one to two minutes to appear, instead of seconds. Launchpad icons take forever to actually display the icons (they come up empty until the dock finally appears). Apps are not updating automatically in the App Store, even though all settings are set for them to update automatically (and have been forever). Stuff like that.
    The only thing showing up in System Preferences under StartUp Disk is Macinstosh HD:

    Does anyone else have this occurring and if so is there a fix - or is this another one for Apple to resolve in future updates!

  • CGContextRestoreGState: invalid context 0x0.

    I have been having intermittent problems with Safari (8.0.2) running under Yosemite on a 2014 Mac Mini.  It quits on it's own (perhaps while the monitor is asleep, I'm not sure).  It restarts quickly but sometimes it takes a long time to load a web page (get spinning beach ball).  I happened to look at the System Log for Safari and there were lots of theses messages like these:
    2015-01-07 2:55:51.848 PM Safari[612]: CGContextRestoreGState: invalid context 0x0. This is a serious error. This application, or a library it uses, is using an invalid context  and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system stability and reliability. This notice is a courtesy: please fix this problem. It will become a fatal error in an upcoming update.
    The tone of the error message concerned me and I wonder if it's as serious as it states or even if it's related to my problem.   I do put the monitor to sleep after 3 hours of no use but I don't put the Mac to sleep.  I do have two Safari extensions - AdBlock and SocialFixer.  Could these be the culprit?  I don't think I updated them after migrating to Yosemite from Snow Leopard on an older 2009 Mac mini.  This problem was more of an annoyance but after reading that message I would like to fix it.  Maybe I brought some problem with me from my old system.  The data migration was done from my Time Machine backup.

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
    For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
    Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
    ☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
    Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    ☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
              DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
    (not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
    I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
    Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

    In Safari go to the Extensions section of the program's preferences and turn them off if they're enabled. If the program still crashes after doing this, then try uninstalling any third-party plugins you might have installed. These will be available in the /Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder. The built-in plugins that you should not remove include:
    iPhotoPhotocast.plugin
    QuickTime Plugin.plugin
    Quartz Composer.webplugin
    After removing those other than the ones listed above, relaunch Safari to see if the problem persists.

  • Safari is slowed down with CGContextClipToRect: invalid context errors

    Recently a new circle of **** has opened for me.  Whenever I launch Safari, it stutters along with frequent beach ball stalls.  Checking the Console log, I see a continuous stream of the following:
    5/10/12 9:53:20.397 AM Safari[4611]: CGContextClipToRect: invalid context 0x0
    5/10/12 9:53:31.285 AM Safari[4611]: CGContextClipToRect: invalid context 0x0
    5/10/12 9:53:31.285 AM Safari[4611]: CGContextTranslateCTM: invalid context 0x0
    I've done the usual permission repairs, rebooting, etc. but to no avail.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
    Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
    Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
    Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

    I am running Safari 8 and OSX Yeosomite 10.10 on an IMac (mid 2011)

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • JDBC/SQLJ Team - Please respond - invalid column type error

    Hi, I have posted several messages regarding problems using SQL/J to call out a stored packaged function that returns a ref cursor, but haven't gotten one response. I have yet a new problem with it. JDBC team, please acknowledge!
    I change the way I obtain a connection to the database from using the Oracle.connect along with a properties file, to now using a DataSource connection pool. As a result, I am constantly getting a SQLException: Invalid column type error. If I change the call to the stored function to a query in the SQLJ code, it's fine. What's going on??
    A previous message I wrote stated I was constantly getting a "closed statement" error when I tried to call the next method of the iterator. I corrected this by removing the finally clause in the generated JDBC code that released the execution context.
    Again, the environment is JDK1.2.2, SQLJ 8.1.6 SDK, JDBC 8.1.6 thin, all on NT.
    Thanks
    David

    I am getting the same error message - Invalid Column Type. I am creating a Default Context by calling Oracle.getConnection(connection) passing in an instance of my own connection class that basically delegates to the OracleConnection. We wrapped the Connection so that we could trap and recover from lost database connections.
    My environment is Solaris 2.6, Oracle 7.3.4 with Sqlj 8.0.5.
    Thanks!

  • Invalid node structure error when verifying hard disk, please help

    My 27" Mid 2011 iMac is having hard disk issues. I attempted to repair the disk but received an error that said the disk cannot be repaired and needs to be re-formatted. I have all my files backed up to an external hard drive so I erased and formatted the disk. After reformatting, I ran the verify disk function and got the message saying the HD appears to working properly. I reload OSX Lion and within a day, my computer freezes up and acts as if something is wrong. When I run the verify disk, I get the Invalid Node Structure error multiple times and then the message saying the disk cannot be repaired and I need to reformat the drive. I have completed this process several times and have had no luck. I have looked at a few forums with people who have had somewhat similar problems but am still unsure. I have seen people recommend programs like Disk Warrior to repair issues the hard disk utility cannot but I don't want to spend $100 dollars on this program if my hard disk is damaged and needs to be replaced. Any suggestions? Thank you

    Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Why Invalid Color Space Error?

    Hi Everyone,
    I am receiving numerous "invalid color space" errors when viewing PDF files in Acrobat Reader (v 11.0.10) on Windows 8, but have not received similar messages when using Acrobat Reader (v 11.0.10) on Mac OSX 10.9.5.  I will outline our environment and workflow below.
    The PDF file is created via the export of an InDesign CC 2014 document.  No errors show up on the preflight panel, and no warnings show up upon export.  The file can be opened fine in the Mac environment with both Acrobat Pro 11.0.10 and Acrobat Reader 11.0.10.  I can navigate through pages, print, and add comments in both applications.
    When this same file is opened on Windows 8 it initially loads, navigates pages, and will allow a few comments to be inserted before showing an "invalid color space" error.  If the error occurs during commenting, the comment will disappear, and I am no longer able to scroll through any other pages since the error reappears.
    I would think that if it was file corruption the problems would be on both Mac and Windows.  Any suggestions would be extremely helpful as all of my searches point to a non-Adobe product (as either the document source or PDF generator) as the culprit with this error.
    Thank you!

  • Invalid Project ID error in TIMECARD

    Hi
    I am trying to configure the Project and Task valusets for the first and segment column on the time card.
    We do not want to use Oracle Projects so I am trying to use the “Project Accounting” screen to create some projects and tasks.
    I have created 2 valuesets for project and task.
    1. select name, id from HXT_PROJECTS hp
    2. select name , id from HXT_TASKS ht
    I have configured the preferences for OTL.
    Once I access the timecard through the Timekeeper responsibility and the columns for Project and task are displayed with the proper values from the valueset.
    But when I try to submit the timecard I am getting an error saying “Invalid Project” and “Invalid Task”.

    Shivanandan,
    Error is coming because you are using the non project custom values but the mapping compoents used are still referring to the project context and trying to verify the custom info against project tables. You will have to change your alternate name mapping also.

  • Invalid context when using Quartz

    I created a class that extends UIView. I added the QuartzCore framework but for some reason this doesn't work. I get errors like the following:
    <Error>: CGContextSetStrokeColor: invalid context
    <Error>: CGContextSetRGBFillColor: invalid context
    @implementation MyQuartzExample
    - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame {
    if (self = [super initWithFrame:frame]) {
    // Initialization code
    return self;
    -(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet*)touches withEvent:(UIEvent*)event
    UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject];
    CGPoint p = [touch locationInView:self];
    [self makeCircleAt:p withDiameter:100.0f withColor:[UIColor redColor]];
    - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect {
    // Drawing code
    - (void)makeCircleAt:(CGPoint)center withDiameter:(float)diameter withColor:(int)myColor
    float radius = diameter * 0.5;
    CGRect myOval = {center.x - radius, center.y - radius, diameter, diameter};
    CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext();
    CGContextSetStrokeColor(context, myColor);
    CGContextSetRGBFillColor(context, 1.0, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0);
    CGContextAddEllipseInRect(context, myOval);
    CGContextFillPath(context);
    - (void)dealloc {
    [super dealloc];
    @end

    Oops, too much Java programming (extending is the equivalent of subclassing).
    I thought that drawRect was called automatically but when I touch the screen the point isn't updated.
    -(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet*)touches withEvent:(UIEvent*)event
    UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject];
    center = [touch locationInView:self];
    - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect {
    float diameter = 100.0f;
    UIColor *myColor = [UIColor redColor];
    float radius = diameter * 0.5;
    CGRect myOval = {center.x - radius, center.y - radius, diameter, diameter};
    CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext();
    CGContextSetStrokeColor(context, myColor);
    CGContextSetRGBFillColor(context, 1.0, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0);
    CGContextAddEllipseInRect(context, myOval);
    CGContextFillPath(context);
    And anyone know an easy way to draw an arc? The compiler doesn't recognize NSBezierPath for some reason and I have no idea what framework it might be in.

    Hi
    yes, I had the same issue and I found a solution.
    You need to request a patch for BUG 9212862 (already corrected in WLS 10.3.3) and do the follwing:
    javax.xml.ws.BindingProvider provider = (javax.xml.ws.BindingProvider)port;
    java.util.Map context = provider.getRequestContext();
    context.put(weblogic.wsee.jaxrpc.WLStub.POLICY_COMPATIBILITY_PREFERENCE, weblogic.wsee.jaxrpc.WLStub.POLICY_COMPATIBILITY_MSFT);
    This will cause the SecurityMessageArchitect class of WLS to not send the SecurityTokenReference in the Soap security header.
    Please note that is evidently a non-comformity to the specs of microsoft:
    Please give a look at
    http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-soap-message-security-1.0.pdf (8.3 Signing Tokens)
    and also at:
    http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/16768/wss-v1.1-spec-os-SAMLTokenProfile.pdf
    (3.4 Identifying and Referencing Security Tokens)
    A SAML key identifier reference MUST be used for all (local and remote) references to SAML 1.1
    assertions. [...]
    All conformant implementations MUST be able to process SAML assertion references occurring in a
    <wsse:Security> header or in a header element other than a signature to acquire the corresponding
    assertion. A conformant implementation MUST be able to process any such reference independent of the
    confirmation method of the referenced assertion.
    It follows that the .NET 3.5 is a non conformat implementation: I would gladly know which is the position of Microsoft on that.
