Challenge to get a date correctly formatted...

Hi All,
Does anyone know how to get a formatted date cell to be copied into a formula without losing its formatting ?
for instance cell a1 contains the formatted date: 02 September 2008
I want to use cell a1 into the following formula in cell a2:
="The bill must be payed before "&a1+14&" on account number 1.1.1.1"
So the result should be:
The bill must be payed before 16 September 2008 on account number 1.1.1.1
But what happens is:
The bill must be payed before sept 16, 2008 on account number 1.1.1.1
I've already tried to reapply the formatting by using the inspector, but that didn't solve it..
Can anyone solve this strange behavior ?

1) What happens if today is for instance 25th of September, then the day would become 39. So you have to create a very complex formula to take into account the amount of days in the specific month.
On my system at least, Numbers automatically handles this, although if you use an auxiliary cell like in my example, that cell will have a little blue triangle which when clicked will tell you a number was expected between 1 & 31. However, this does not affect the result, nor does the triangle appear in the cell with the formatted result in a sentence.
2) This code will be present on an invoice, so it can't be visible as i have to print it afterwards and sent it to a customer.
I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean. The cell formula should appear only if you set the cell containing it to the text format. And if you want printed output free of any auxiliary cells, either put them in a row or column & choose the "Hide" option for that, or put the cells in another table (possibly on another sheet) & don't print that.
Basically, the idea is to use an auxiliary cell for the future date, concatenate that with whatever text strings you want with the "&" operator in another cell, & set the format of the auxiliary cell to the one you desire. The date format of the cell with the concatenation should track the date format of the auxiliary cell, as long as you don't set its format to text.

  • How to get date in format(1st jan 2006 ).

    can we get get the date in the 1st jan 2006 format .
    we can get the date in format 1 jan 2006 by using (d MMM yyyy) but i am not able to get st, nd, or rd after the day in(d mmm yyyy)format like 1st 2nd 3rd 4th

    Search and thou shall find. I read a similar thread just yesterday, school task?
    you can say that you have a String postfix, which is set like this:
    String postfix = "";
    switch(dayOfMonth) {
         case 1:case 21:case31: postfix = "st"; break;
         case 2:case 22: postfix = "nd"; break;
         case 3:case 23: postfix = "rd"; break;
         default: postfix = "th";
    }

  • Is fast boot not working for you? This is how you get it working correctly...

    Ok so after two days of trying to register on this site, the 50th activation email finally worked...
    Anyway I was trying to figure out why fast boot wasn't making much of a difference it seemed like once it booted quick but may have just been random. My setup is Z77a GD65 with two Samsung 830 128GB in RAID 0.
    It was taking about 30 seconds from pushing the power button to getting into windows and that was with fast boot enabled. That did not seem right. After messing around for a while and researching I came across many mixed reviews about doing this or doing that. Windows 8 Feature... The windows 8 feature is from my understanding and research for secure boot...
    If your just wanting the faster boot times using fast boot. Just enable MSI Fast Boot, and install the Fast Boot utility so you can get back into the bios. When you enable fast boot, this disables usb devices etc so you can't get into the bios when booting. This little utility is really useful as it will boot you from windows right into your bios etc. KEEP READING STILL NEED TO DO MORE!!!!!
    Now for fast boot to work correctly you need to make sure you installed windows 8 in uefi mode. I read a couple people ask this question but I don't think they got the right answer or people just said yea I have a uefi motherboard and windows 8. That is not what people have been asking you.
    To get this working correctly format a flash drive using rufus while choosing your win 8 iso.
    You can get that here and it explains it and the settings to choose. I had to break up the link as the forum would not let me post the link. Maybe a mod can fix the links.
    eightforums .com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html
    After that is done you should then see in the bios a boot option for a UEFI usb flash drive. Make sure your boot mode is using UEFI. Otherwise it will be using legacy mode and not show uefi devices. I selected UEFI only just to make sure. Then choose this uefi flash drive as your first boot device and save and reboot to install windows from this uefi flash drive.
    It should look like this
    Once your at the install screen delete your partititons from the drive you are going to install windows on. So that it is unallocated. Then select new and apply. This will create 4 partitions. Here is a nice quide for doing that and explains it all. eightforums .com/tutorials/2328-uefi-unified-extensible-firmware-interface-install-windows-8-a.html
    Basically your partitions should look like this.
    Once you have installed windows you will then know if you installed in uefi as your splash screen will be different. Instead of just the MSI splash screen you will then see the windows loading square/circle as well on this same splash screen. You will now have a boot option called UEFI Windows Boot Manager. Select that one as your first boot device and then enable MSI Fast Boot.
    Sorry if this post is cluttered I will add some more pics and clean it up in a bit. It's really early.

    If one SSD fails, you lose the data on both SSDs.
    In your case, you lose 128 GB.
    Period.
    You continue to argue on silly things and you miss the main point:
    RAID 0 on SSDs does not make any sense.
    RAID 0 (striped volume) has been designed for spinners.
    It's a workaround to reduce the access time (a few miliseconds) caused by the mechanical parts of the HDD.
    For a SSD (with a few microseconds access time) does not bring any boost.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-raid-benchmark,3485-10.html
    On contrary: shorter lifetime for both SSDs
    So (for the last time) the best solution in your case is:
    Put the OS on the first SSD (drive C) and the other programs/games on the second one (drive D).
    There is no need to kill both SSDs at the same time (for nothing).
    And finally, talking about this silly "fast boot" of yours:
    5,10,20, or 30 seconds is something irrelevant.
    Simply because you get the max speed on an "empty" OS only.
    With every installed app (most of them come with bloatware anyway), your boot time is getting longer and longer.
    On the other hand, who cares if it takes 10 or 20 seconds?
    Only someone with mental problems needs to boot up the computer all day long.
    99.99% of the users boot up the computer once or twice per day.
    From my point of view, this topic is closed.
    You're free to think and do anything you like.
    I take it you are extremely hard headed and only view this from your opinion. Even with your logic of "If a drive fails you lose 128GB of data is wrong." If a drive fails I would lose 256GB of data if the RAID was full...
    The way you originally worded it made it sound like you thought RAID 0 only uses the capacity of one drive... I was trying to clear that up by saying it uses the capacity of both drives and ends up being 256GB capacity but I guess you couldn't wrap your head around what I was trying to say.
    Think what you want... but everyone I know on all of the tech forums I have been on for years, "EVGA, HARD, etc" 99% of users prefer running OS in RAID 0 on SSD's. Anyone with half a brain does not store important files on a RAID 0 array. I even created a new thread on EVGA asking how members prefer installing Windows with two identical SSD's. Most of them said they always run a RAID 0 for OS on SSD's. A couple others said they prefer running Windows/Programs on one SSD, and Games on the other. Usually that is because when they reformat they can simply re initialize the steam directory on the second SSD and then you don't have to reinstall all of your games.
    I respect your opinion but saying RAID 0 on SSDs does not make any sense is crazy talk. And that fast boot is only for people with mental problems lol... you sir have issues. Why do you think they made this feature? Why do people OC? A lot of people do it because it is fun, they are enthusiast, and they like to push a system. Why do people buy SSDs if its only a few seconds faster when you only turn on your computer once twice a day? When you only open an app or launch a game a couple times a day.

  • How to get the data in Charts

    HI Guys,
    In the BEX reports for the rows used the date and in the columns i have created a structue using the selections based on the KF. i have used the 29 KF in the structure. My problem i want to dispaly the data by spliting the key figures from 1-15 and 16-29 in the WAD for the tables and graphs
    i did the settings for the tables as followed and getting the data correctly
    Display data from value column = 1
    Display data  to value column = 15.
    i want to apply the same settings for the graph.
    Please help me where i need to do the settings for the series(legends).
    Thanks,
    Visu
    Edited by: visu rao on Apr 9, 2008 5:45 PM

    Hi Visu,
    In Chart, you cannot have such option. You should have two same queries as such with 1 to 15 KF's in one query and 16 to 29 KF's (with structures) in second query with all other similar fields. Now use these two queries in two different charts with 15 categories in first chart and the other 14 categories in second chart. You can have the categories what ever you want... U just need to maintain in the query in the structure, the number of KF's... and the same number of categories in chart.
    You can have the categories and series count in "Edit chart-->Wizard and Chart designer".
    Assign points if this helps u...

    In presentation I am getting correct format.

    Quantity(MARD-LABST) is not coming proprely.(###6## instead of 36)
    How to get it in correct forma?I

    symbol means  Space
    Before transfer the data to File..
    condense MARD-LABST and then transfer it.
    I guess you are using charcter field LABST while transferring the data to file.
    Do not use quantity field directly,please move it to charcter field then condense it.

  • Put java.sql.Date in correct format

    I need to put java.sql.Date in correct format to query an Oracle database.
    Here is my code:
            SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yy");
            java.util.Date dateChosen = jXDatePicker1.getDate();
            String strDate = formatter.format(dateChosen);
            System.out.println("Date Chosen: " + strDate); // output is: 11-Feb-00
            java.util.Date parserDate = null;
            try {
                parserDate = formatter.parse(strDate);
            } catch (ParseException re) {
                System.err.println("Exception caught: " + re.getMessage());
            // create java.sql.Date object
                java.sql.Date oraDate = new java.sql.Date(parserDate.getTime());
            System.out.println(oraDate);  // date is in this format: 2000-02-11
            System.out.println("formatted oraDate: " + formatter.format( oraDate ) ); // no good, stringIf I use formatter.format( oraDate ) I get the correct format (11-Feb-00) BUT it is no longer a sql Date, it is a String which can't be use.
    I have looked at the API and many other forum threads on this, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    In the class with the PreparedStatement, I pass the date like this:
    public class report extends javax.swing.JDialog {
         java.sql.Date newDate;
        public report(java.sql.Date passedOraDate, String passedtxtDate) {
            super();
            initComponents();
            setTitle("Report");
            setModal(true);
            newDate = passedOraDate;
            statusLabel.setText(passedtxtDate);
            System.out.println("passedtxtDate: " +passedtxtDate);
            System.out.println("newDate: " +newDate);
        }Here is the code that uses the actual PreparedStatement:
            try {
                // In my actual code I have all columns listed in query
                String query = "SELECT * FROM report WHERE repdate = ?";
                ps = conn.prepareStatement(query); // create a statement
                           ps.setDate(1, newDate); // set input parameter
                rs = ps.executeQuery();
                // extract data from the ResultSet
                ResultSetMetaData md = rs.getMetaData();
                int columns = md.getColumnCount();This is greatly edited to show relevant code!

  • When I attempt to apply a lens profile in the Develop module the only choices are for the Fujifilm X100/S/T even though in the Library module the EXIF data correctly shows the camera as the X-T1 and the precise lens used to take the picture. How do I get

    When I attempt to apply a lens profile in the Develop module the only choices are for the Fujifilm X100/S/T even though in the Library module the EXIF data correctly shows the camera as the X-T1 and the precise lens used to take the picture. How do I get the right profile available?

    First, the required profile needs to be present. LR 5.4 supports the X-T1 in terms of understanding its Raw format, but will not come with a profile for every lens which can be mounted onto that.
    A profile is made for each specific lens, as mounted on a certain camera. It can also be used with pictures taken on a different (reasonably similar) camera body than the one originally used during profiling. This is subject to the sensor format: you can employ a given lens profile made for full frame, on an image from a crop sensor behind the same lens - but not vice versa.
    Next, the image type needs to correspond to the image type which has been built into the profile: Raw, or non-Raw.
    Lightroom offers only profiles of the right type for the image(s) concerned. There are many more provided for correcting camera Raw, than for correcting camera JPG. That is also the case with additional profiles, e.g. those accessed via the Adobe lens profile downloader utility.
    Finally, in the event that there simply is no profile out there for a given lens, it is not particularly difficult (though a little tedious) for the end user to generate one, using a further Adobe utility which is downloadable as a package, including a range of checkerboard calibration targets, each of which needs to be printed at a stated physical size.

  • Getting Source Data in Canonical Format

    All -
    I understand that in order to change the date format in xmlp we have to have the source data in the canonical format YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MI:SS
    My question is - How do I get my source data into this format? When I try to alter my session or do a to_char on a date column as follows:
    alter session set nls_date_format="yyyy-mm-ddThh24:mi:ss"
    or
    select to_char(sysdate,'yyyy-mm-ddThh:mi:ss') from dual;
    I get the message that the date format is not recognized. I'm sure that I'm just missing something simple, but any help that could be provided will be greatly appreciated.

    Hey BigD
    The XSD format is not recognized by the db ... Im chasing that up, they docs appear to say otherwise.
    You have some alternatives:
    1. If you are not bothered about the time portion you can just get the YYYY-MM-DD format and it will be formatted correctly by XMLP
    2. Use the Data Template engine from XMLP to get the data, it will format the date for you.
    3. Nasty but you could do something like:
    SELECT TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'YYYY-MM-DD')||'T'||to_char(sysdate,'HH24:MI:SS') from DUAL
    If/When I get an answer from the db team on any function I'll let you know.
