  • Backup Not Starting for 'Whole database offline + redo log backup' @ DB13

    Hi Experts,
I am not able to perform 'Whole database offline + redo log backup' by DB13.
I have recently configured my 'init<SID>.sap'  to take 'Whole database online + redo log backup' and its working perfectly fine.
I tried taking test backup for  'Whole database offline + redo log backup'  but it didn't even  started.
Thus I created another profile with name init<SID>back.sap  and changed the Parameter
    from 'backup_type = online'  to 'backup_type = offline' and also tried by 'backup_type = offline_force'
rest all parameters being same as the profile  init<SID>.sap
Kindly Suggest as I need to take set the backup Strategy as  Mon-Fri  -> 'Whole database offline + redo log backup'  and Sat ->  'Whole database offline + redo log backup'
One more Query : While taking the redo log backup by DB13 why is it that some times it only saves the Files and some time it
saves and delete the files from the '/oracle/<SID>/oraarch'  location. Please throw some light over this matter also.
    Thanks,
    Jitesh

    Hi Mr Bhavik,
Thanks for your reply..  Here are the details you have asked for.
1.My SAP BASIS Patch Level  is :  10. ( We shall be updating it by the end of this Year)
    2. Br*tools version is :
    BRTOOLS   7.00 (11)
    kernel release    700
    patch level   11
    3. I don't have any file with name alert<dbsid>.log file (located at /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/background/) but i do have alert_<SID>.log
    I execute the command more -p G alert_JMD.log
after my  'Whole database offline + redo log backup' again failed at DB13 but I was not able to see any specific complains while executing the above action.
I got the Error Detailed Log in DB13 as :

  • Change DBID for primary database

    Hello All,
We are have Quality and Production database. The quality database has a active DR setup and the standby database is in sync with the primary.
Now we have a issue, Production and Quality have a same DBID (quality was refreshed with production's database with SAP tools) due to which we are unable to register it to RMAN catalog.
The question I have is, lets say I change the DBID using the NID tool, using NID tool will perform "alter database open resetlogs" and it means old backups will be void and new redo logs will generate.
Will this affect/invalidate the standby database because of the open reset logs statement? Do I need to rebuild the standby database after changing the DBID of primary database?
    Thanks all in advance.
    Regards,
    Bala

you cannot have different DBID for production and standby databases, physical standby is a exact replica, so DBID will also be same.
Yes, if you change the DBID of primary , you will have to rebuild the standby database which will have same DBID again

  • Using TFS and SSDT to manage the change control for the Database

     Hi,
I am managing my Database version control using SSDT tool on TFS, when I have created database project I got  file extension as Database.sqlproj.
I am trying to open this solution in the SSMS but its failing as its looking for the .ssmssln. My target is to provide the facility to developer that they can open any of
the data base object from ssms using project and when the alter it will get checked out on tfs and also altered on the database.
    Regards Vikas Pathak

Hi Vikas, the projects used inside SSMS are not compatible with those in Visual Studio. So unfortunately you cannot open and manage them inside SSMS.
The best practices we recommend are that you do your development inside Visual Studio and then publish the .dacpac file created on project build to your database - you can do this using VS, SSMS or SqlPackage.exe from the command line.
If you do not want to use project-based development but do want TFS support for version changes, plenty of developers use SSMS for day-to-day changes and then use Schema Compare inside Visual Studio to sync those updates to a project and check these in.
This gives you some level of change management and backup support.
    Hope this helps,
    Kevin

  • Change volume for whole audio track

    Hi gang,
I feel like I am missing something obvious ...
I have a stereo background noise that recurs across my sequence. It is pasted into audio tracks A13 and A14 with crossfades between each occurrence. I want to fade the volume of all of them at the same time (i.e. all of the audio clips pasted into A13 and A14). If I select all of them by dragging a box using the mouse, it does not set the volume for all of the clips, only the last
How do you change the volume for a whole track?
    Cheers!

whats more, had you already manually adjusted some clips but not others and then wanted to adjust all the clips to the same level regardless of your previous adjustment then there's really no need to remove levels attributes, or redit etc etc ... you just follow the same steps posted above, choosing "Absolute" as the Gain adjustment - all clips regardless of previous levels will be set to the absolute level you specify.

  • When / Where / If to change Collation

    Greetings :)
I've been through the pain of upgrading sql 2000 databases to sql 2012 (via 2008r2) although the new box (sql2012) is not live yet.
I notice the COLLATION of the migrated user databases is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS and the server/system collation is Latin1_General_CI_AS.
    QUESTIONS:
    1) does it matter? they're almost the same
    2) how would I have changed an individual databases (and contents) collation during the upgrade? (IE: backup / restore onto 2008r2 (autoupgrade), backup / restore onto 2012 (autoupgrade)).
I'm happy to go through the pain again if best.
    3) wouldn't it now be easier to just change the server and system databases to match the upgraded user databases (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS)?
    4) and wouldn't 3) above ensure continued smooth operations with the rest of the environment? (EG: Reporting Server)
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
Based  on your description, SQL Server lets us store data in different collations, and we can set this at both the server level and at the individual database level. But when we join between different databases, or when we create a temp table and then
compare the temp table data to the data of a user database in a different collation, conflict may occurs.
When you restore a database, RESTORE uses the collation of the source database that is recorded in the backup file. The restored database has the same collation as the original database that is backed up. During the process of restoring database, you cannot
change the collation of the database. However, you can change the collation of the database(and contents) in SQL Server 2012 after restoring. You can create a script to change the collation of every object, and create a stored procedure to script all the objects
(primary keys, foreign keys, constraints, indexes), then run these scripts in SQL Server 2012. For more details, you can follow the steps in this blog:
Easy way to change collation of all database objects in SQL Server. Please make sure that you have backed up the database before changing the collation.
The server collation acts as the default collation for all system databases that are installed with the instance of SQL Server, and also any newly created user databases. The server collation is specified during SQL Server installation. Actually, it is a
complex operation to change the default collation for an instance of SQL Server, I recommend you not to change the server collation. For more details, please review this article:
Set or Change the Server Collation.
If you change  the server collation to a new collation,  the system databases (contains master, model, msdb and tempdb)  will be rebuilt using the new collation setting. Any user modifications to these databases will be lost, so it is
important to backup any of this information you wish to retain.
    Thanks,
    Lydia Zhang

  • Replicate a whole database

    Hi,
Can I replicate a whole database with goldengate,
Do I need to create the tables in the target database in adbanced or can I create the whoel thing with gg?
Is there some example of it?
    THanks

    Hi,
You can replicate all the schema objects from one database to another with help Oracle GoldenGate, But the below reserved schema objects will not be replicated ,OGG will ignore these schemas from the replication. There is no option available for whole database replication in single command like database name.* instead of this you can use schema name. * , it will replicate all the table transaction which related the particular schema.
Before start the replication between the database the both source and target database should be in sync mode like same structure, constraints, rows ...etc... for this there are different options are available to do the initial load, depends on your database size... even you can use GG for this initial load purpose but its not recommanded for high volume of databases. you can find several different option available for sync up your both database , for example Oracle export /import, Rman TTS ...file , loader .... etc
You can refer Oracle® GoldenGate Windows and UNIX Administrator’s Guide(Chapter 15) and installation guide for more details with example.
The following schema names are considered Oracle-reserved and must be excluded from the Oracle GoldenGate DDL configuration. Oracle GoldenGate will ignore these schemas.

  • How to change collation at Database level

    Hi ,
I need to change one of my  database collation . Actually the server collation and database collation is differently . I dont want to change server level collation. I want to change only database collation . Please let me know the various methods are
available for this activity. Please suggest me how to proceed ..........
    Thanks in advance ....... :)
    Regards
    Pradeep

    Hi Eeland,
Yes .... you are absolutely correct . Actually this is production server also . Before going to implement i need to prepare a document , what are  the steps i will follow. If you have free time  ...... please help me.
    Regards
    Pradeep
You can use script as below
    DECLARE @Query varchar(max)
    SELECT @Query = COALESCE(@Query + ';','') + 'ALTER TABLE ' + TABLE_NAME + ' ALTER COLUMN ' + COLUMN_NAME + ' ' + DATA_TYPE + '(' + CASE WHEN CHARACTER_MAXIMUM_LENGTH = -1 THEN 'max' ELSE (CAST(CHARACTER_MAXIMUM_LENGTH AS varchar(5)) END + ') ' + CASE WHEN IS_NULLABLE = 'YES' THEN ' NULL ' ELSE ' NOT NULL ' END + ' COLLATE <new collationname here>'
    WHERE DATA_TYPE IN ('text','ntext','varchar','char','nvarchar','nchar')
    PRINT (@QUERY)
    --EXEC (@QUERY)
But I second Erlands suggestion. First see the generated code and checkk it carefully before applying to prod environment

  • Does Universal Connector read only the changes or the whole of the database everytime

Does the Universal Connector read only the changes in the external database into the Connector View every scheduled cycle or does it read the whole of the database into the connector view every time ?
I need to write a indirect connector for Lotus Notes database using the universal connector and univeral text parse. So I want to know if the Import and Dump scripts that I will have to write will have to read just the changes that took place or the whole of the Notes DB everytime ?

If it is possible to get just the changes then do that.

  • Best practice for tracking database changes...?

    Dear Oracle gurus,
I'm still relatively new to database administrating, and recently I ran into a situation which I'm not sure if there's some text-book scenario analysis or practice.
I find it hard to track all the database changes across different servers. Our company develop software that uses the Oracle database, so we have development and test servers set up here and there, with really minimal control on them. Problem arises when we make rapid design changes to our system, which required multiple and rapid changes to the databases. I find it really hard to keep track of everything, because sometimes I can't patch some server because of people still using it for development/testing/investigation/etc.
So, is there some kind of good practices for tracking database changes (which we even write patches for), monitoring schema modifications, or maybe even versioning database objects? I've tried to find some information but I think I did not look in the right places or ask the right questions.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Peter Tung

The first thing I would start with is:
Find a version control system that will allow you to store files and version them (PVCS for example). You could for example, store all the sql scripts. Whenever a change is needed, the user could check the program out from the version control tool and make changes and check it back in. Besides sql scripts, you could also store binary files or any type of source code files in a version control system. This would at least put some things in order. In a version control system, you could associate a number or a string with all the files within a patch.
