Change global variable multithreaded

Hi,
I've encounterd an issue which I'm trying to end a thread from another thread
I have one main thread that calls two different threads (Thread1 & Thread2) as so:

I've tried to debug in debug and release configuration but the change of g_ThLoop from Thread2 doesn't make Thread1 to exit
also tried to use CmtLock, Local Variable and Safe Variable but...with no success

How is your g_ThLoop variable defined?
In Monitoring and Controlling Secondary Threads help topic the following note can be found:
Note If you use the volatile keyword, this code will function properly in an optimizing compiler such as Microsoft Visual C++. An optimizing compiler determines that nothing inside the while loop can change the value of the quit variable. Therefore, as an optimization, the compiler might use only the initial value of the quit variable in the whileloop condition. Use the volatile keyword to notify the compiler that another thread might change the value of the quit variable. As a result, the compiler uses the updated value of the quit variable each time the loop executes.
Multitthreading is indeed a powerful technique but requires a non trivial knowledge of its inner aspects. I suggest you to carefully read Creating Multithreaded Applications topic in the CVI help: it gives the basics of multithreading and a lot of advanced features you should know to master this technique.

How to change Global variable in the query

Hi,
I have 6 reports which is using 0PDT as a global variable and has single option as a property. Now I want to change this property and have multiple selection but I am not able to change its property.
I am able to see all the filter variables from the query property and from there I am getting edit option to change but the "single selection" option is grey/disable which is preventing me to make change in this variable. Is there any way that I delete this variable and create a local variable which has date range option.
This is affecting all my reports and all the report needs date ranges instead of single select option.

You can change the restrictions with new variable(right click on required infoobject and choose restrict -->> choose variables -->> move existing variable from right to left and move new variable. Then you can see only one variable.
You can not delete any variable if is using in some queries.

Change global variable from symbol

Hi Everyone,
I need help making changes to a global variable. I set a variable up on the creationComplete using the code: sym.setVariable("information", 1);
Later in the project I want to call up that variable and then increase the value on a button click. In the button symbol (onClick) I can call up the variable by using: var paragraph = sym.getComposition().getStage().getVariable("information");
When I use an alert(paragraph), the proper value shows up. But, on the click, I need to change the value of the stageComplete variable "information" to 2.
Can anyone give me some guidance on what I'm not doing right?

Hi,
It seems you want to increment using sym.setVariable() and sym.getVariable().
First step: sym.setVariable("counter",1); // it means: counter = 1;
Second step (another panel): sym.setVariable("counter", sym.getVariable("counter") + 1); // it means: counter = counter +1; or counter += 1

Changing Global variables inside function

Trying to set a global variable in a function that had already been set before the function. For example:

You need to set $VariablesAreSame as a global variable in the function.

my organization has created job in data services 3.2 to cleanse the data reading from excel flat files. the folder path was store in the global variable(I think) and now they have changed the directories hence is it throwing me below error.

I want to update the folder path\\infra\finance\production\sales\Metadata\ALL_Metadata_SALES.xls to \\Home\BIData\finance\production\sales\Metadata\ALL_Metadata_SALES.xls
when i investigated WF_Metadata_files i saw there is a global called INPUT_DIR i assume I have to change the path there. I tried to find old directory in the batch job but i cant find it and even When i give value to global variable it is still pointing to old path.
Can anybody please help me.

Hi Tim,
If having specified the value in the global variable it is still pointing to the old path there can be a couple of scenarios applicable
1. There is a different global varaiable being used for the file path
2. The filepath is hardcoded in the file-format or Excel file definition despite the declaration of the global variable.
Are you getting this error when running a dataflow within this workflow or in a script? It will be better to run the workflow in debug mode and look through the stages to find out where exactly in the workflow it fails.

PLSQL: Changing in parameter thru assignment to global variable???

Hi there!
On 10gR2 (10.2.0.3) the following PL/SQL block
declare
glob_val pls_integer := 2;
procedure test_p(x in pls_integer) is

appears to change the value of the in-parameter x by an assignment to the
global variable glob_val. To verify, just check the dbms_output generated.
This is completely unexpected behaviour, and contrary to my understanding of
PL/SQL's parameter passing mechanisms. If this was the intended behaviour
in 10.2 it would definitely break tons of existing PL/SQL code.
Has anyone run into this problem before? Is this a bug? Is there a workaround
available? Any ideas??

IN-Parameter were not passed by reference in former versions of PL/SQL.
You may notice that you cannot assign to an in-parameter either; an attempt
to do that will just produce the error PLS-00363.

I dont quite understand your question but if your variable is a reference to an object then you can certainly have a method to alter the object that the reference is pointing to and/or the reference itself..
otherwise your 'function' will have to return the same type as the variable itself in order to do the assignment as you demonstrated, regardless of wether it's C, C# or Java, AFAIK, WIRNM

Setting global variable that are static but I want them to change

I'm trying to set a global variable so I can let the user change the state in the Plugin Manager. I've created a checkbox (in PluginManager.lua)

that references the global variable (in PluginInit.lua)

The state of the checkbox accurately reflects the initial value as set. Everything seems fine but after unchecking the checkbox, the value is always true in my plugin. I expected _G.showHttpResponse to change to reflect the setting in the checkbox.
What have I overlooked? Is this only for setting static globals?

Reading the Lightroom SDK manual seemed to indicate that using globals would be the way to go. I'm thinking that it is only appropriate for static text.
I've taken both your suggestions and have used the plugin preferences. I didn't think you could get and set them in the Plugin Manager but they work just fine. Now I set my debug flags in the plugin manager screen and they are available to the plugin and are persisted as well.

Global variable: continuous change

Hi,
I have some trouble with a VI program. I am trying to create a program where a variable X start with a initial value during some ms. Then this variable must be used in another while loop, and the value should be changing continuously after some calculations. I use it just for the first calculation, and then it changes continuously for other calculations.
Maybe a global variable must be used, but I'm not sure.
I have found this tutorial, is it useful for this problem?

The first thing to do is to try as hard as you can to utterly forget anything you learned about programming in another language. Even in places where the same words are used they typically mean verrry different things.
As was pointed out to you, LabVIEW doesn't have named variables, LabVIEW has wires.
As I understand it you have a value that you will use iteratively in a calculation. The way to do that is in a loop with a shift register to pass the changing value between iterations.
You should check out the online tutorials. They will help you a lot.

Control global variable used in sub vi

Hi,
I've created a vi to read an instrument and to initiate its calibration with labview. This VI stores data in a global variable containing measurments and status of the instrument.
Now what I'm trying to do is create a sub vi with this to read&write 2 exactly identical instruments so I can finally create a VI that read all 3 instruments simultaneously.
How could I create a control on the global variable used by the sub VIs since it is the only thing that will change along with its COM port ?

I would make an array of values and then you just pass in which value to update. I would actually take it a step further and make an Action Engine that can update the data and return the data.

Loading a text file into a global variable issue - really a global var?

From all the documentation and examples I can find, it appears that it would be
correct to create a global array variable [outside of any functions] to load image names into,
then use these images for a slideshow. I want to make the app dynamic, in that changing the text file gives a new set of images.
The global variable goes null [no values] after the load event listener. Why is that?
Isn't global, well global, and alive for the duration of the SWF?

The statement you quoted from whatever Adobe documentation is correct.
If you want to load the data into the arrays before anything else happens, then have anything else that happens execute via the completeHandler function... after the data is loaded and processed into the arrays.
the command: loadFile() executes before the trace("2:" +images[4]); command. The loadFile function is processed and the loading process BEGINS... but starting the loading does not delay the main processing from continuing down the line--the loading itself becomes a secondary/background task. The command was to execute the loadFile function and the processing of that function was completed. If you don't believe so, then add a trace...

If you add that trace, you should see that the loadFile function execution is completed and the next line in your code is then processed... trace(2....)
The addEventlistener does not stop anything. The addEventListener code is assigning a monitor, not a traffic controller... it is telling the monitor to indicate when the data has finished loading. It is not telling anything to stop program execution.
So if you want to wait until the data is loaded before you do anything else... it goes....

How do you override global variable values when calling oraxsl or xsl.exe?

I am a newbie to oracle xslt.
I have down loaded the latest version of xdk (10.1.0.2...). (Jan 2, 2009).
In the past I haveI used micorsoft's "msxsl.exe" to perform my transformations.
I am looking for a more up-to-date transformation tool.
I found Oracle's version, and thought I would try it out.
I have run the "bin/xsl.exe -hh" command.
I read its help data. It states that variables are
passed by coding a pramater "-V <var> <value>".
I have also examined the oraxls.bat file.
I found the documentation on "oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxsl" class.
It states that parameters are passed after the "-p" switch.
It says the value of the -p parameter is "a list of paramemters".
I don't find this sufficient information to be useful.
I can spend days guessing, and I might get lucky.
I thought it my be better to ask for help.
I need to pass in (override) values for 3 global variables.
I saw the method
"setParam(namespace, variable, value)",
near the documentation for the "oraxsl" class.
How do you format the options string to communicate more than one param statement?
(in either xsl.exe and/or oraxsl class).

I had hopped that the Oracle's xsl Verion 2 routine could handle xslt 2.0 commands
such as "xsl:for-each-group", since it handled multiple xsl:outputs.
From reading some of the documentation it seems it only handles xslt 1.0 syntax/commands.
Is this true? (or is the documentation not up-to-date?).
Any help on passing param values to xsl.exe and/or "oraxsl" class is appreciated.

Here is the line from one of my testing .bat files that passed in one parameter. I can't recall if I've passed in two, but this will give you a starting point for passing in multiple

Its Application Module has a Transient View Object instance "MyEmployeesContextVOVI", as master for the child View Object instance "EmpInCtxJobVI".
On rollback the Transient View Object instance keeps its row and attribute values.
Also when passivation and activation is forced (using jbo.ampool.doampooling=false ) the Transient View Object instance seems to keep its row and attribute values.
questions:
- (q1) Why does the expression #{bindings.MyEmployeesContextVOVIIterator.dataControl.transactionDirty} evaluate as true when a Transient View Object instance attribute value is changed (as shown in screencast at http://screencast.com/t/qDvSQCgpvYdd )?
- (q2) What would be a robust approach to make a Transient View Object instance more self-contained, and manage itself to have only one single row (per instance) at all times (and as such removing the dependency on the Application Module prepareSession() as documented in "5. Create an empty row in the view object when a new user begins using the application module.")?

It does point out a difference in marking transactions dirty by different layers of the framework, "... When any attribute's value is changed through an ADFM binding, the ADFM-layer transaction is marked as dirty. ...".

Data manager package log does not show Global variables!!

We are using BPC 10 sp14 Microsoft version with SQL Server 2008 R2. We are seeing an issue where datamanager package log does not show the Global variables defined in package script whereas in BPC 7.5 Global variable were visible in package log.
Please let us know is this behavior changed in BPC 10?

How can I access global variables in a loaded Applescript?

How can I access global variables in a loaded script, in Xcode, ApplescriptObjC? Basically, I have a global variable defined in my parent script using "property", and I need to modify objects connected to those variables inside of a loaded script.
Example:
Parent script:

The problem is, the variable is undefined in the Loaded script, and I need it to have the same value as the parent script, and I don't want to pass the variable through the Handler. Any ideas?

I think want you are looking to do will need to be done in two steps. Because myTextField needs to be a property for the ObjectiveC part of the code you cannot turn it into a global.
However if you make a temporary variable global assign the string to it in the handler then set myTextField off of it.

I know you stated you did not want the handler to return a value but I have to ask why? Global's, imo, are not a good idea and really should be used as a last resort.
One other possibility is to pass a reference to the property to the handler. Not sure if that works in AS of if that would satisfy our requirement of not passing the variable through the handler
