Change JVM
Hello, I'm running Oracle AS 10.1.2 and I would like to change the JVM in which OC4J runs to a different JVM that came with the AS.
How should I do this?
Thanks.
Luiz.
What do you mean by encoding of your application? what exactly is the error / problem you are getting?

Hi,
I have deployed my application in oracleAS. but when I try to install it, It is impossible as the encoding of my application is not the same as JVM file encoding. Both should be UTF-8.
How is it possible to change JVM encoding in an OC4j instance of OracleAS?

How to change JVM max memory size in R3 ?
Hi, I want to change JVM parameters in R3. Can I do that by em console?
Seems its in the Windows registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\JBoss for Adobe LiveCycle\Parameters -
Just now briefly looked at admin_client.jar 10.1.3.1.0. It appears that there is new functionality to create/alter and interrogate (J2EE) resources in this utility. This partially answers my other question, as stated in Jython support in Oracle Application Server 10g R3 (10.1.3)
(Would be nice to get a definitive answer on scripting though)
Anyway...
As a follow-up question. Will there also be functionality (or is there already functionality) which lets me change JVM settings of OC4J components as they are declared in the opmn.xml, using only command line (and/or scripting) tools?
ThanksJan -- there is no out of the box command line utility that can amend the JVM settings for an OC4J instance.
As Deepak alluded to, it is possible to do this using JMX because all the OPMN configuration elements are all reachable from JMX. This means you can create whatever Java JMX client you desire to modify the settings, or use a scripting environment which provides nice support for JMX (for example Groovy with its GroovyMBean) to access and use the OpmnConfig MBean set to change the OPMN configuration values.
Asanka -- the 10.1.3.1 release has lots of capability in ASC to manage the OPMN settings from a browser -- including modifying all the JVM settings (things like heap, System properties, etc.) as well as OC4J switches (-userThreads, etc.)

Changing JVM version in CE 7.1 SP11 using Config Tool
Hi Experts,
I have CE 7.1 SP11 installation, in the server node I could see two versions of JVM (jvm: sapjvm_5.1.017 and sapjvm_5.1.058 in directory usr\sap\<>\SYS\exe\jvm\<>\....)
In Config Tool, it shows only sapjvm_5.1.058.
I faced a problem with jvm sapjvm_5.1.058 connecting to rmi/iiop which is running in ibm webspehere, but I able able to connect properly with using sapjvm_5.1.017 which I tested by creating and executing sample Java program.
My question is - I want to change the JVM version in Config tool and want to point it to sapjvm_5.1.017.
Please suggest me how can I do this.

Changing JVM in Tomcat 4.1
Does anyone know how to change which JVM Tomcat uses? I do not have Tomcat installed as a service, and I have changed the JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to SDK 1.4 (instead of SDK 1.3) but if I start the Tomcat manager, it still says it is using 1.3. And my Web applications behave as if they are using 1.3. Help!
/ArthurCheck your startup.bat script.
Chances are it has encoded the path to your JVM in there.
You have 1.3 and 1.4 Java both installed on your system?
I know I had trouble doing it - I ended up reinstalling Tomcat to convince it to upgrade.
Good luck,

Changing JVM Settings in CFMX7
We have noticed that the User Home field under the JVM
Details section of the Settings Summary is not showing the correct
value. Do you know how do we change the value? We have searched the
registry, xml files under the lib directory, etc., with no success.
Thanks,
AnaYes, we are using Windows Server 2003. When we check the
ColdFusion services, all of them are using the Local System Account
setting. It does not seem to be pointing to account shown on User
Home. Another thing that has us confused is the fact that the
account showing in User Home has never been used by us. We don't
own or have access to it.
Thanks,

SUN WEB SERVER WON'T START AFTER CHANGING JVM & CLASSPATH
hi all,
i have a sunfire 280r box running solaris 8 which i installed with sun web server 6.0 sp11.
the default java is
root@smartvideo1 # java -version
java version "1.2.2"
Solaris VM (build Solaris_JDK_1.2.2_10, native threads, sunwjit)
but this is what i need for my java classes
root@smartvideo1 # /usr/j2se/bin/java -version
java version "1.4.2_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_01-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_01-b06, mixed mode)
root@smartvideo1 #
i set the JVM & CLASSPATH settings to /usr/j2se and rebooted the hardware.
now, when i try to start the web server, i get the ff:
[08/Apr/2008:03:23:29] info ( 835): iPlanet-WebServer-Enterprise/6.0SP11 B12/15/2006 03:03

would appreciate any help.
thanks :)hi mv,
tried your suggestion of installing sun webserver7 but i got an error, something like "can't use sparcv9.so" (too bad i didn't copy the entire error before uninstalling). may have something to do with patches for solaris8. unfortunately, i don't have access to the patches since my support for the hardware ended many years ago.
was able to get 108434-18 but not 108435-18 which needs an active support account.

Changing JVM on Windows path.
Hello.
I have recently installed the sdk to Java 1.6, but would like to revert instead back to my erlier (and still installed version 1.5). This is not on the path, and I have tried to look through the registry to find something enlightening.
Please tell me how I change the java path in Windows.
Thank you,
Owen. Thanks to both of you for your comments.
I observe that while I can reach java 1.6 from the command line, the text "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01" (the release of 1.6 that I have) is not on my path. I.e., I type path at the command line, and do not see the directory entry. Is there some place in the registry that this information is being maintained?
If there is, I believe I'll want to change it to use "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_10" (the release of 1.5 that I have), so that 1.5 is used instead of 1.6.
Is there a registry entry such as I am thinking there is?

Hi All,
I have been trying to move my UCM instance on to JRockit. I downloaded the JRockit from the Oracle.
I have placed it in the same folder where the default JVM of UCM is kept.
After this i updated the Launcher.cfg file with corresponding path to Jrockit.
After doing all this when i restarted the UCM i did not start saying could not fine JAVA_EXEUCTABLE_LOCTION.
Has some one done this transition smoothly.
can somebody please brief me about the starting sequence that is followed. What i need to know is the the sequence
inwhich variuos cfg files are read by idcserver.exe. This way i would be able to close down on the file where i need to make the updation.
many thanks in advance,
cheers,
sapanSapan ,
Try to include the JDK_custom=[Path to JDK] as a variable in the intradoc.cfg with the path pointing to the exe of JRockit and then see if the startup goes fine.
Thanks
Srinath

How to change JVM options from a running JVM
Hello, I have to launch a remote application on my machine. I managed to do that with code that invokes the main method of the application I want to execute. What I do is to launch an instance of the class containing main function, here is an extract of the code:
Object obj = ....; //obj is the class containg main, for instance MyClass
java.lan.reflect.Method m = .....; //m is the main method
Object result = m.invoke(obj, args); This works, the main method gets called and so the application starts. Of course, the main method is called from a jar built in the right way.
But the way the main method gets called is like doing
java MyClassNow I have the problem to launch this application with some options to java command (these options are about remote debugging with JDI ).
In other words, what I would like to dis the following, if I could do it from command line:
java -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket myApp.jar (myApp.jar is on a remote host)
while all that I'm able to do is
java myApp.jarOf course I want to do it from my java code, not from command line.
Thank youIt isn't possible as stated.
You must change the way that you are launching the VM. Either by providing options or by providing a different way to launch it. -
Changing Excel decimalseperator using webutil
Hi all
I am migrating a few forms from 6i to 11g, one of this forms in 6i sends data (number data type) to excel cells, excel does some calculations and sends back the result.
In 11g this is becoming a nightmare, in Forms we are using SPANISH NLS_LANG and windows reginal setting to Spain so the decimal separator is comma however when we run the form in 11g I am always getting a number format error, I observed this error in jvm console:
java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "1916,2232"
at sun.misc.FloatingDecimal.readJavaFormatString(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Double.valueOf(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Double.<init>(Unknown Source)
looks like JVM uses dot as decimal seperator and not a comma, I am not sure.
So if I cannot change JVM decimal seperator I think my best bet is change excel decimal seperator. Is this possible using webutil?
ThanksHi
1. What is the complete Forms version you are using? 11.1.1.4
2. What is the compete JRE version you are using? 1.6_21
3. What is the complete WebUtil version you are using? 11.1.1.4
4. What is the complete Jacob version you are using? 1.10.1
5. Have you tested this with a more common character set? For example: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 Yes, I have tested
The problem seems to me is following:
Forms (Spanish, comma decimal seperator) -> Webutil -> Excel (Spanish, comma decimal seperator) ERROR, I get the jaa number format error
If I try this:
Forms (AMERICAN, dot decimal seperator) -> Webutil -> Excel (Spanish, comma decimal seperator) ERROR when running excel calculation because excel is expecting comma decimal seperator
So far I only know how to change decimal seperator in Forms using NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTER or NLS_LANG, I dont have a clue how can I force Webutil Or Jacob to use comma as decimal seperator, I dont know how to force comma as decimal seperator in excel and that is my question here unless anyone know how I can change decimal seperator in Webutil or Jacob?

Everyone,
Can somebody explain me how to change JVM paramters in Configtool step by step.
I opened configtool and Instance_IDXXXXX,Right side i see Servers General and Java Parameters.
I changed the parameters, saved and restarted the cluster. But,the settings are not getting applied.
Have I missed any steps? i didn't switch it to edit mode since i was lready able to change it here.
And i am using <SID>adm. In edit mode, configtool changed to tree structure.
Can somebody explain me what exactly missing and how to change JVM step by step ? Kindly help..Hi. Instead of the path Cluster_data - Instance_ID### - Servers General, follow the path cluster_data - instance_ID### - server_ID#### - 'General' tab - java parameters. Enter the VM settings there.
Repeat for each server in under the instance_ID### node.
Save your changes and restart the instance -
Hi All,
Is there a ways to monitor/change JVM parameters at runtime?
Example
If I pass a custom jvm parameter in the following way:
java -Dmy.custom.argument=myvalue -jar Stylepad.jarIs there a way to monitor this argument (-Dmy.custom.argument=myvalue) at runtime with both read and write permissions?
As far as I know the platform management mbeans only allows us to view such jvm parameters in read only mode (via java.lang.Runtime MBean).
Could any one help me to solve this problem?
Thanks in Advance!
JiniHi,
You could write your own MBean to do so.
However you should be careful about security: if your MBean allows to change just
any System property and isn't protected then you would be creating a security hole.
There's also a second consideration, which is that changing the value of a System
property at runtime might have no effect: it would mostly depends on how the code
that depends on that System property uses it.
Most applications will read their property only once, at initialization time. Changing
a property after such an application has performed its initialization phase has usually
no effect on that application.
On a pure conceptual/general level I would be tempted to qualify what you are
asking for as 'fragile' (best case) or 'dangerous' (worst case).
If however you still want to proceed in this direction you may be interested by this
blog entry:

It isn't exactly what you are asking for but it may help you on your way.
Hope this helps,
