Change LOV to select box in e-business suite
Hello, not sure this is the right forum but I have special information types I have converted to self service pages. These act as the default LOV's you find on oracle, where you click go, do a search, find what you are looking for and continue. My question is, is there a personalization I can use to make this LOV box a select drop down list? Obviously this doesn't make sense for all fields but for most with maybe 1 or 2 values, a select box makes a lot more sense.
Many Thanks
You cannot convert a LOV to dropdown. However you can hide a LOV field using personalization and create a dropdown using the same. You would need to create a separate POPList VO which can be used to refer the display and value attributes.
Caution: Many times LOV has multiple mappings (LovRelations) which would populate multiple fields (visible and not visible) based on the value you select. It would not be easy to replicate all such mappings in a drop down. Please gauge the complexity involved in your case and take a decision.

LOV in select box based off of the group the current user is in
Hi,
I need a drop down to display status codes for a user but it that user is a manager then I only need the approval codes to show up. IE: A user will create a record and slect New, Pending Approval, Inprocess and Completed. A manager will see the coes to Approve or Reject. At least that's what I need to happen.
I have been trying to do something like this in a selection list(drop down) in it's LOV section:
DECLARE
VAL BOOLEAN;
BEGIN
VAL := APEX_UTIL.CURRENT_USER_IN_GROUP(p_group_name=>'Managers');
if VAL = true then
select CODE display_value, STATUS_CODE_ID return_value
from STATUS_CODES
where STATUS_CODE_ID in (3, 4)
order by 1;
else
select CODE display_value, STATUS_CODE_ID return_value
from STATUS_CODES
where STATUS_CODE_ID in (1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8)
order by 1;
end if;
END;
When I run the page it pukes all over itself. Can anyone help me please? Here's the errors:
So for the 1st error, I take it I need a variable to hold each value it's going to return? Is there any easier way to do this? Even if I do change the declarations and add more value holders and change the select statement to stuff the values "into" the variables I declare, how do I return them to the DISPLAY & RETURN values that a LOV expects? IE: get them out of the anonymous block?

Thanks for your help in advance!
DaveBut, when I run it in toad(im in our apex db), it throws an error.
No, it raises an exception, just as it would in SQL*Plus.
I take it APEX text boxes where you enter code in, are somehow specially parsed?
In most places in Application Express where it lets you enter anonymous blocks, it puts more code around it to be able to use it in the intended context. Sometimes that means treating the code as a boolean function, sometimes it does other stuff. In this case it has to turn the block into a function that returns a SQL query which can then be parsed.

Change the default option for a select box
Hi,
I have a select box, with the options built from a Spry Dataset
<select name="AvatarSelect" id="AvatarSelect" spry:region="myAvatars">
<option spry:repeat="myAvatars">{A_NAME}</option>
</select>
I wish to change the default selected option (which is usually the first row returned from the dataset) based on a value for A_NAME that I know from another spry dataset.
Tried using Spry.$$('#AvatarSelect') to get to the the array of select options but to no avail.
How can I cycle through the options and then set the selected on, based on a match for A_NAME?
Cheers
PhilHi Phil
I think this is the way
<select name="AvatarSelect" id="AvatarSelect" spry:region="myAvatarsLookup myAvatarsValue">
<option spry:repeat="myAvatarsLookup" spry:test="'{myAvatarsValue::A_NAME}'=='{myAvatarsLookup::id}'" value="{myAvatarsLookup::id}" selected="selected">{A_NAME}</option>
<option spry:repeat="myAvatarsLookup" spry:test="'{myAvatarsValue::A_NAME}'!='{myAvatarsLookup::id}'" value="{myAvatarsLookup::id}">{A_NAME}</option>
</select>

Multi-Select Box Not Displaying Values Passed From Grid?
Coldfusion 8
I inherited an application and am trying to maintain and improve it... hit a snag today.
I have a multi-select box that is not displaying what I expect. The values come from a ColdFusion grid which is based off a database query.
Here is the code for the select - does not work - nothing is selected:
<cfselect name="USER_IDS" multiple="true" queryposition="below" selected="USER_IDS" query="ActiveUsersPlus" disabled="#disabled#" value="G_USER_WORK_UNIT_SK" display="G_USER_ID" >
</cfselect>
Now if I change the multiselect to a single select like below - it takes the first item in the field list (from the grid) and selects it in the drop down.
<cfselect name="USER_IDS" multiple="false" queryposition="below" selected="USER_IDS" query="ActiveUsersPlus" disabled="#disabled#" value="G_USER_WORK_UNIT_SK" display="G_USER_ID" >
</cfselect>
Or if I assign a variable like this and use the multi-select code it seems to work as well.
testlist = "22,26";
<cfselect name="USER_IDS" multiple="true" queryposition="below" selected="#testlist#" query="ActiveUsersPlus" disabled="#disabled#" value="G_USER_WORK_UNIT_SK" display="G_USER_ID" >
</cfselect>
I have displayed the value of "User_IDs" in the grid and in the data entry part of the screen to see values of: 22,26
to make sure that wasn't my issue.
Do grids and multiselects require something additional? Any advice on how to resolve?Problem was related to some javascript for the select box. There was a function for a single select box but not a multiple select box - this fixed it:
if(theForm.elements[i].type == "select-multiple"){
var selectBox = theForm.elements[i];
var sbname = selectBox.name;
cpvalue = String(eval('record.data.' + sbname));
var NotifyArray = cpvalue.split(',');
for (var j=0; j < selectBox.length; j++) {
selectBox[j].selected = false;
for (var j=0; j < selectBox.length; j++) {
sbvalue = selectBox[j].value;
for (var k=0; k < NotifyArray.length; k++){
if (sbvalue == NotifyArray[k]){
selectBox[j].selected = true; -
How to change gtk theme dialog box button appearance when using tab?
Hi,
I'm using candido as my gtk theme and have noticed that when a dialog box pops up (Yes / No), it is extremely difficult to tell which option is highlighted. How do I change this appearance? I searched through the gtkrc and even used gimp to manipulate the images used via trial and error to see if I found one that worked. Can someone familiar with gtk themes tell me which gtkrc or image to alter to affect this appearance?
I use tab to select my option a ton and hate not being able to tell what I'm looking at.
For reference,
- here is the current look (can you tell which one is highlighted? It's "Cancel" -- just slightly bigger or a fine line around it) LINK
- here is the gtkrc if that helps? LINK
For one more point of clarification, I'm not talking about the button appearance on mouseover. I have identified that the button-prelight.png file changes that. I specifically am talking purely about a dialog popping up and then using the tab key alone to highlight through the options. I really like this theme, but this one thing drives me crazy. This appearance changes when I select different themes with lxappearance, so I've narrowed it down to being a gtk-theme issue, not my openbox theme or icon set.
Many thanks!

Add form fields dynamically onchange of a select box.
I have a JSP page with a <h:form>:
<h:form id="registrationForm">
<h:outputText value="#{Resource.EmailAddress}" /><br />
<h:inputText label="E-mail Address" id="emailAddress" value="#{RegistrationBean.emailAddress}" required="true" requiredMessage="#{Resource.RequiredError}">
<f:validator validatorId="EmailValidator" />
</h:inputText><br />
<h:message for="emailAddress" styleClass="error" /></td>
Select age range<br />
<h:selectOneMenu id="ageRange" value="#{RegistrationBean.ageRange}" valueChangeListener="#{RegistrationBean.updateComponents}" onchange="javascript: return submit()">
<f:selectItems value="#{RegistrationBean.ageRangeValues}" />
</h:selectOneMenu><br />
<h:commandButton id="submit" value="#{Resource.Submit}" />
</h:form>When the user changes the value for the ageRange select box, the form gets submitted through the following JavaScript:
function submit() {
document.forms[0].submit();
return true;
}Then the ValueChangeListener defined in a backing bean for the ageRange select box gets called:
public void updateComponents(ValueChangeEvent e) {
// Generate components automatically
}What I want is, when the user changes the value of the ageRange select box, the valueChangeListener should generate a few new text fields in the form and the validator for the e-mail address field shouldn't get called. The validator for the email-address field should only get called once the user clicks on the Submit button.
Any help or pointers will be greatly appreciated.You can find here lot of pointers: http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/10/populate-child-menus.html

Multiple Select boxes in one form
Does anyone know if it is possible to have multiple select
boxes inside one form? I have six different select boxes that are
generated by six separate queries. The action page for all six
select boxes is the same so I just want one submit button so users
don't get confuse. I don't want to cluster up the page with submit
buttons but I may resort to that option.
My problem is the select boxes generate a number and when
that number is submitted I want to pass two other variables with it
to the action page. I tried putting a "Form" tag around the 6
select boxes. Inside each select box I tried to add an "Input
type="hidden"" and give thte name and values that I needed. That
worked for the first select box but when I tried the second select
box it used the hidden values for the first select box.
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Or if you
have any other suggestions I am open to any.
ThanksPaross1,
I wasn't thinking about that and you gave me a great idea.

Background color change question - only selecting the footer
I use the darkroom theme and was curious about changing the page background color. Right now my settings use the darkroom theme 'right out of the box' which is 'image fill' on both the page and browser background. That is the textured look.
When I try to change the color, selecting 'color fill' instead of 'image fill', it only changes the footer - not the entire page background.
I'm guessing it's not possible to change a color using the 'image fill.' You get 'image fill' in black or gray as shown and that is it, except should you decide to use your own image, which I do not.
Any way to be able to have a change apply to the entire page and not just the footer?
Suggestions welcome.I tried to do the same just see what the problem was and failed. It is probably 'cos the top layer is independant of the page background or browser background. Even when I had page background none and altered the browser background it made no difference. If you want anything different try using a blank black or white theme and putting your own graphics on there. You can make quite nice backgrounds if you have a decent paint or photo program.

I was wondering how to update a select box with data relevant
to a selection made on a suggest box, something similar to
this,
but with a spry suggest box instead of the first select box on the
example.
I tried the example (two select boxes using two binded data
sets) with my db and it works; when I select something on the first
select box, the second one changes dynamically according to the
selection made.
I have defined two datasets:
var ds1 = new
Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("API/make_entry_list_xml.php","viperdb/entry",{sortOnLoad:"pdb_id",s ortOrderOnLoad:"ascending"});
var ds2 = new
Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("API/get_chains_for_entry_id.php?VDB={ds1::pdb_id}","viperdb/entry/c hain_id");
and defined the suggest and select boxes as:
<div id="suggest_1">
<input type='text' id='vdb1'>
<div id="resultsDIV_1" spry:region="ds1">
<div spry:repeat="ds1" spry:suggest="{pdb_id}"
onClick="ds1.setCurrentRowNumber(this.selectedIndex);"
onchange="ds1.setCurrentRowNumber(this.selectedIndex);">
<div class="suggest_list">{pdb_id}</div>
</div>
</div>
<span spry:region="ds2" id="subdirSelector">
<select spry:repeatchildren="ds2" name="subdirSelect">
<option value="{chain_id}">{chain_id}</option>
</select>
</span>
</div>
Neither onclick nor onchange functions seem to work; on load
the second select does fill up with ds2 data (acording to the first
element of ds1), but when using the suggest box to select something
different, the selectbox doesn't change accordingly, keeping always
the same data.
Am I using the setCurrentRowNumber in the wrong dataset or
tag?I would say if you were to do somthing like this
var ds1 = new
Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("API/make_entry_list_xml.php","viperdb/entry",{sortOnLoad:"pdb_id",s ortOrderOnLoad:"ascending",useCache:false});
see I added the useCache:false
This will stop the browser from cacheing your xml, thenjust
add an onclick to some function like say
update();
then have update do this
function update()
ds1.loadData();
That should cause the browser to update the data set and
update your elements now the only downside is IE has a bug well
more like IE being the bug but anyhow you may have to add things to
your code to get it to work right in IE, I added in some random
number script in my JS so that it will append on the end of my DS
each time so IE thinks its a new XML doc. Hope this helps. -
Display Key and Text in Variable Selection Box by Default in BEx
Hi Experts,
I have a requirement to display both key and text in the variable selection box by default.
Currently, only the text is being displayed.
The 'wrench' can be used to change the display, but the client would like to see both key and text by default.
Is there a way I can accomplish this?
Thanks,
Points will be assigned!hi experts,
i have done the same settings in development and its working fine and we can see key/text bydefault in variable selection in Dev. and when i transport the cube into quality the settings are reflecting but in analyzer(QA) variable selection screen still its giving text(DEFAULT). could you please provide me the solutions to do it.

How to create editable select box in jsp page
hi,
i got som peculiar requirement in my jsp page.i have my page like this.

<option value="two">India</option>
<option value="three">UAE</option>
</select>
</body>
</html>
this is one of the select box in my jsp page.
now i want to change the look and feel of select box..
1-dont want to show the scrollbar means the right side arrow which allows to see the total options in select box.
it should look like normal text box.
2-roveer apert from the existing values if there is no matching value user must be allowed to enter his own value in above select box..
how i can solve this problen..
regards,
samIs that maybe a browser memory auto-complete thing? It works on Netscape 7.2. But no, it's not a browser auto-complete thing (does NS have that? IE does... either way, I would've disabled that). It's definitely a Javascript trick, I'm sure of that. I know I haven't sent mail to all people in my address book from my work PC, but it doesn't stop them from showing in the list as I type...
Unless there is a special HTML tag option or browser extension that I've never heard of that allows you to supply a set of values to a text input field for auto-completion (as opposed to the browser remembering what was typed). -
Can I have a LOV for display and a LOV for select values in a form ?
My LOV are in table :
lov_return, lov_display, lov_available
To avoid a loss in translating lov_return in lov_display values, I manage a flag, lov_available, Y/N to filter out obsoleted values.
By example, at the beginning of using the application, I have :
LOV_RETURN
LOV_DISPLAY
LOV_AVAILABLE
1
TOP
Y
2
CENTER
Y
3
BOTTOM
Y
And I have records with 1, 2 or 3 in the field corresponding with the LOV.
So far, so good.
Then I want to have a slightly different set of values in my LOV, for new records :
LOV_RETURN
LOV_DISPLAY
LOV_AVAILABLE
1
TOP
Y
2
CENTER
N
3
BOTTOM
Y
4
CENTER-TOP
Y
5
CENTER-BOTTOM
Y
So, when I edit an old record in my form, I want the 2 to be well deciphered into CENTER, and in the SELECT list, I want TOP,BOTTON,CENTER-TOP,CENTER-BOTTOM.
When I assign the dynamic LOV : select lov_display d,lov_return r from lov_table where lov_available = 'Y', to the corresponding field in my FORM, even allowing extra values will not help and will display '2' instead of 'CENTER'.
Is there a way I can manage to show the translated 'CENTER' in the field, and offer a list of values taking in account the 'availability' of the value, other than including the PX_FIELD test in my SQL for the dynamic LOV ?A common logical problem I encountered back the days of Oracle Forms.
A solution I often see is displaying invalid options with an asterisk, and applying validation to ensure users don't change to invalid selection.
No doubt there are some clever ways to tart this up with jQuery, also.

I have a drop-down box that I am using to control the sorting
of my dataset. The drop-down box is located in a spry region
because I want to display different sorting choices depending on a
javascript variable. I have it scripted so that the dataset.sort()
function is called by the drop-down box's onChange handler. It
works great for the sorting - the only problem is that the
drop-down box always reverts back to the first <option> as
soon as the sort() method is called and I would prefer to have it
remain on the last selected index. I know I could probably rig
something complicated in JavaScript involving observer objects and
dynamically building the select options, but before I went down
that road, I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the
<select> box from reverting first?
I attached a quick sample of what I'm talking about below:
<td spry:region="dsPlans" class="SpryHiddenRegion">
<span spry:choose="spry:choose">
<!--- When selected, this select box always resets to
whatever the first option is --->
<select name="sSortBy" spry:when="var1 == 'value1'"
onChange="dsPlans.sort(this.value,'toggle');">
<option value="Field1">Field1</option>
<option value="Field2">Field2</option>
<option value="Field3">Field3</option>
</select>
<select name="sSortBy" spry:when="var1 == 'value2'"
onChange="dsPlans.sort(this.value,'toggle');">
<option value="Field4">Field4</option>
<option value="Field5">Field5</option>
<option value="Field6">Field6</option>
</select>
<select name="sSortBy" spry:default="spry:default"
onChange="dsPlans.sort(this.value,'toggle');">
<option value="Field7">Field7</option>
<option value="Field8">Field8</option>
<option value="Field9">Field9</option>
</select>
</span>
</td>
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!Hi Michael,
The cleanest way is to use observers as you suggest.
onPreUpdate, store the selected index of the select, and then
onPostUpdate, restore it. Something like:
var savedIndex = 0;
dsPlans.addObserver(function(noticationType, notifier, data)
if (notificationType == "onPreUpdate" &&
document.forms[ 0 ] && document.forms[ 0 ].sSortBy)
savedIndex = document.forms[0].sSortBy.selectedIndex;
else if (notificationType == "onPostUpdate")
document.forms[ 0 ].sSortBy.selectedIndex = savedIndex;
You'd probably also want some logic that resets this
savedIndex whenever your var1 changes too.

Product Variation Select Box Issue
HI all! I'm having an issue with the production variations that I have out of stock and they're still showing in the select dropdown menu. I have tried to get support on this but they're telling me that it's something to do with my template. I haven't been able to find any issue with my template though. Upon inspection of the code, I can see that the select box is being set to "display: none" When I disable this, a second select box appears next to the first select box with the correct inventory available selections. Can anyone help me figure out this issue? Thanks in advance!
{tag_attributes} has been changed to {tag_attributes, vertical, true, false} and all out of stock variations have been disabled.
UPDATE: On CSS style: select, .selectBox - line 504 "style.css" I forced display: inline-block and now you can see the two select boxes upon page load.
UPDATE: For the incorrect select box that showed all the product variations despite their disabled status - i was able to force it to display: none !important --- and it solved this issue. I would still like to know why this was happening if anyone has ideas.
Thanks!Hi mattkrae34,
What version of SpryMenubar.js are you using? You can find
the version on the first line of the file.
Also, do you have a sample URL we can take a look at?

How to update database with a select box
I'm hoping someone can/will help me with a new feature I'm
trying to add to my web site. I'll summarize what I'm working with
and then proceed to what I'd like to do. This is the web site I'm
working on: www.truckerstoystore.net
I have a database for the Truck of the Week set up with the
information that is output on each page in the left column and
on the Truck of the week page itself. I add new Truck of the
Week (TOW) entries via a form I've put together. Right now, in
order to change the current TOW, I have to manually go into my
template and change the ID (which is automatically assigned when
the record is created, and thus makes it unique) in my SQL which
currently reads
SELECT *
FROM truckofweek
WHERE ID="4"
to the ID of the current TOW.
What I want to be able to do is create a new form that will
allow me to select the TOW entry that I want to be displayed from a
select box (drop down box). I have a good idea of how to populate
my select box, but don't know how to get it to work. My first idea
was to update the table in the database (Access) manually with a
new column called currentTOW, with values set to a Yes/No type,
with default values set to "No". Then I would use my form to set
the value for one of them to "Yes" so I could set my SQL to 'WHERE
currentTOW ="yes" ' I would also make a <cfif> statement that
checks for entries marked "Yes" and changes them to "No" when the
form loads to avoid setting 2 entries to "Yes" and my page thus
attempting to load 2 TOW entries.
My problem is, I don't know how to do any of this. I hope
I've described this situation well enough. I know there has to be
at least one guru on here that can help me. Any assistance would be
greatly appreciated.Hey,
Thanks for replying. That sounds like a good idea, but I
don't know how to do it.
I started working on a new idea, where I have a second table
in the same datasource set up called currentTOW, with one field
called currentTOW and only one record. The idea is to send the
string of the "owner" field from the select box, which is populated
from the table called truckofweek to this one cell in the
currentTOW table.
This way, in my page which will display the data, I have 2
querys. The first pulls the data in the single cell from currentTOW
and outputs its string into the second query. I've attached the
code below. I get an error when I try to display the page, see the
error here:
www.truckerstoystore.net/currentTOW2.cfm.
However, the SQL looks like I want it to look, as "WHERE Owner =
Craig Carp" is essentially the same record that it displays now in
the live page "/currentTOW.cfm" only the SQL currently reads "WHERE
ID = 4" (4 and Craig Carp are part of the same record).
Here is the link to my form:
