Change OmniPortlet Source SQL Query at RunTime
Hi All
Can we change OmniPortet's source SQL query at run time, for example, add or remove a condition, while the output fields remain same but the records (rows returned) are updated based on the added/removed condition.

I found solution to this problem myself, and it goes like this.
We cannot change the query of OmniPortlet at run time, rather we can create a procedure which executes different queries based on passed parameters and return the resultset using REF CURSOR. I used SYS_REF_CURSOR for the same.

It won't be possible as structure of request and response is tightly coupled with the SQL and any update in SQL may also require corresponding update in XSD.

How to pass the Bound values to VO SQL Query during runtime?
Hi all,
I have the following sql query;
SELECT NOTIFICATION_ID
FROM xx_NOTIFICATION_V
WHERE COMPANY = NVL(:1, COMPANY)
AND INITIATOR = NVL(:2,INITIATOR)
AND PAYGROUP = NVL(:3, PAYGROUP)
AND SOURCE = NVL(:4, SOURCE)
AND SUPPLIER_NAME = NVL(:5,SUPPLIER_NAME)
AND TRX_DATE BETWEEN NVL(:6,TRX_DATE)
AND NVL(:7,TRX_DATE)
If i click GO button on search page then it pass the selected Poplists values as a Bound values to VO Sql query at runtime after this I store the search results in a Table(Which is created by using New Region Wizard).
I want to pass the Bind parameter values to VO SQL query during runtime and :1,:2,:3,:4,:5,:6,:7 values are coming from Poplists.
I search through forum I found many threads regarding Bind Values but those all are passing ID's only not String(Varchar) values.
How to pass the Character values to VO Query.
Please anyone help me on this.

Change JDBC select SQL query's where clause at runtime
Hi,
I have one JDBC sender channel with Select SQL Query which helps in fetching data from JDE table. We have defined where clause to fetch some particular records i.e. if ABC = NULL then fetch the record.. and then update query is used to turn that flag to "Y" i.e. ABC ="Y" so that next time the channel don't pick the same records again.
Now the problem is that if we want to fetch some records again whose flag has been set to "Y" we cannot change the select query again and again in the production environment.
Is there any way to change the select query of the JDBC channel at runtime e.g. Picking up some flat file where the conditions for the particular records to be picked are defined (ID=123) and changing the WHERE clause of select query in the JDBC channel for those records to be picked without using BPM.

Yes, it is possible with the help of store procedure. In SQL Server there is a IF-Else Conditional block, which you can use inside store procedure. Create a SP with 2 additional parameter something like FlagReadAgain and KeyField. Pass the flag always as True or False. For the Key field pass the record key which you want to read again if you are passing the Flag as True else pass it as 0 or whatever.
In the procedure check if the value of flag is True -> If yes, Read the entry with key name specified in where part.
In the else part put the query which you are using for the normal flow.
IF (FlagReadAgain) = TRUE
BEGIN
SELECT EmpName, EmpAddress
FROM Employee
WHERE EmpID = 'E001'
END
ELSE
BEGIN
SELECT EmpName, EmpAddress
FROM Employee

You may also use the approach which Srini mentioned. Create an application to restore any value to intial stage so that it can be picked up by XI when it poll again.

I have a dataflow in a for each loop container.The OLEDB Source is pointing to oracle database.The sql query to fetch the data should take a variable value.

Update Field On Change For A SQL Query (updateable report)

I'd like to request help from anyone with ideas on how to solve this.
We are using APEX 4.2, 10GR2, RedHat5.
I have a report that comes from SQL Query (updateable report).
I'm using the apex_item.text and apex_item.hidden on fields.
I'm using a button to submit and after submit process to add some logic that I need.
There could be 1 - 10 records in the report.
There is only 1 field that is needed to enter a value, but the value of this field determines the value of another field.
I think that I can do this with a submit button and an after submit process where I loop through all the records. I think I have this handled.
This is the question
When the value of that field is changed then the value of another field in the same row changes immediately.
Is this possible?
All the examples I've seen so far are for a single record and that doesn't work for us.
I guess this is a MRU process but I haven't seen an example where a dynamic action is possible on a Multi Row Update.
Could anyone direct me to where I can see an example or help me get directions?

Any hints why does a text item does not execute SQL Query used as a source while the computation does the thing?
Both are used in Page Rendering phase. I'd like to avoid row fetch process as well. I just want a single query to populate item value without using process/computation.Probably. The real deal here is that computation is executed before the dml row fetch despite the fact that the fetch row process is in the "After header" while computation set to "Before regions" phase.
Anyway, maybe let me tell you what I am trying to achieve and not what doesn't work for me. On a page I have a P1_IDX item which is set through URL, this is the primary key of table X. Then, I have a bunch of fields from table Y which are all of "DB column" source. First I deduce P1_IDY from a select on X. Then I would like to populate the form items with values from table Y based on the prior computation. Hopefully I'm clear enough.

Queries can only be copied if the underlying objects are the same and copying is the only way.
Use transaction RSZC to copy. Technical name of the copied query is different to the technical name of the original query. If the underlying cubes are not completely identical then this won't work and then the only option is to manually move the query.
Secondly, this will only copy the query and not the related objects like views or web templates.

Why would white space and line breaks in sql query increase runtime
Using 11.2.0.3.0 on unix sprac server, 8 cpus 32 cores 12TB storage. We have 16 batch servers doing inserts and ~100 users doing mostly queries.
We have a wierd issue, we have a long query that takes 30 seconds to run 1st time then 10-20 secs every other time. Based on knowledge of DB we expected it to take a lot less. Then a developer reformatted it by taking removing extra white space and line breaks. all of sudden query takes 6 secs first time and 0.8 every other time. we tripled checked to ensure they are identical and that only difference is white space and line breaks. We tried it with SQLDeveloper, TOAD, SQLPLUS, from out desktops, appserver. we could reproduce it every time, with white space 10-20 secs without it 0.8 secs. Query is 200 lines long with white space 30 without it.
Why would having white space make such a dramatic difference? because the query is longer eventhough its identical? We checked parsing times, etc, no difference. Is there some network setting, oracle parameter, sqlnet setting? We spent hours looking on google and found nother

How are you determining the query plan? Are you absolutely sure that both SQL statements have the same plan_hash_value when they are actually executed (not just when you generate a query plan without executing it)? What are the differences in wait events when you execute the two?
The sql_id will change when you add or remove whitespace. There are various methods of modifying query plans that are tied to a sql_id. My wager would be that you have a profile/ outline/ etc. that is not there for the reformatted one which is causing a query plan difference. My next guess is that you have an accepted plan for the old statement, you haven't set up a process to let the plan evolve, and the reformatted statement starts with the plan that the old statement would get if you allowed the plan to evolve.

Problem when changing connection to SQL Anywhere during runtime
I designed a report in the Crystal Reports 2008 designer using a JDBC connection
to a SQL Anywhere 11.0.1 database.
Everything works fine, I´m able to preview the report in the designer.
But when loading and running the same report in a Eclipse-based java-application I receive
an error.
When I set the db connection parameters I receive an "unexpected database-connector-error".
When starting the report without changing the connection parameters set in the CR2008-designer
the same error appears.
When using a report based on a MySQL-database everything works fine.
I´m able to preview the report in the designer and I´m able to load the report
and change the datasource to another MySQL-database at runtime.
What do I have to do to change a SQL Anywhere connection at runtime?Your workflow and the specific method being invoked where you're getting the exception is unclear.

Changing region source SQL based on condition
I have a reports region which displays the results from some SQL. Depending on the value of a page variable I need to run a different bit of SQL to get my results. At the moment I'm using 5 different regions and displaying the appropriate one and hiding the others, depending on the value of the page variable.
It's a bit messy and I'm looking for a better way to do it. Is it possible to use a single region and change the SQL used as the region source after checking my page variable? e.g. something like this for the region source:

ELSEIF :report_type = 2 THEN

Actually, as long as you're willing to live with some limitations, you can indeed do that with an interactive report.
A while ago, I blogged about using pipelined functions with respective to generic charting -

Using the same technique you can create a pipelined function which returns each of your different resultsets.
The key limitation is of course that you need to return the same columns each time (in your example you are always returning 3 columns, it is just the table name that changes, so perhaps it might still be an acceptable solution to you).

Performance Problem with SQL Query
Hi
I have a SQL Query (say, SSS) which runs quite fast when I run it from TOAD.
But when the same query is being used as
INSERT INTO <table> VALUES <SSS>;
It is taking hours to complete.
The Original Query(OSQ) was changed to this SQL query(SSS) for Performance improvement.
The Cost has also improved quite a lot from OSQ to SSS. But when SSS runs from inside a procedure it is taking the same long hours as OSQ used to take.
Please help ASAP as it needs to get fixed.

The cost of this 7000.....finishes in 1 - 1.5 min in Toad
This is used as INSERT INTO TABLE <Select Query> ... this was taking 1.5 Hours to run.
It was changed using BULK COLLECT - still its taking around 1.5 hours to run...
