Change resolution based on dpi in flex

Hi All ,
In my Flex Application , i am getting image for chart / process from java. Its working fine.
Now my new requirement is :
1) For the first time when getting image the default dpi should be  : 72dpi
2) And i should have 2 more options to select 90dpi and 150dpi in flex
and when selecting these dpis , my chart/process resolution should change based on selected dpi in Flex.
Please helpp.....

SkR Pasha,
If I understand what you mean, there are two approaches you can take:
1) The easiest way is to just define 3 paths to images, each one being a different resolution:
var img1:String = lowResImage.gif;
var img2:String = medResImage.gif;
var img3:String = highResImage.gif;
Then load the one that is appropriate when the DPI changes.
2) Flex 4.5 includes support for multiple DPIs. First you get the current DPI:
FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.applicationDP
Then you use the MultiDPIBitmapSource class to specify which image to use based on the DPI.
Here's an example that you can apply to a standard application (you don't need to write a mobile app to do it):

  • Changing resolution to 72 dpi using iPhoto

My daughter is in a photography club and she's entering a photo contest. One of the requirements is that all photos must be 72 dpi. Her teacher uses Photoshop and isn't familiar with iPhoto, so he doesn't know how to tell her/us what to do. Any help?

Hi, Bearcat Annie. There are two problems here: 1) iPhoto 4.0.3 and earlier versions don't offer any direct way to change the dpi specification of an image, and 2) the teacher's dpi requirement has no meaning unless it's accompanied by an overall resolution limit, such as 640 x 480 pixels, 1024 x 768 pixels, etc. Has the teacher specified an upper resolution limit?

  • Changing dpi changes resolution

Does changing the dpi of an image change the resolution of the image without changing the size?
I have an image that is 300 dpi that I need to enlarge 400% changing the dpi to 75.
I don't think manually changing the dpi to 600 will actually change the clarity of the image when enlarged 400%.
    Is that correct?
    Thanks
    Cindy

First, DPI (dots per inch) is different to PPI (pixels per inch) despite the terms very often being wrongly interchanged. Photoshop works with pixels, not printer output dots.
    http://www.google.com/search?q=dpi+v+ppi
Changing resolution with "Resample" enabled will result in changed pixels, but no change in the physical size (inches/cm/etc.) of the document.
Changing resolution with "Resample" disabled will result in unchanged pixels, but there will be a change to the physical size of the document.
You will not increase the clarity of an image by enlarging it.
The best way to learn what happens is to try things and observe the results.

  • Thunderbird automatically changes resolution of attached incoming and outgoing image files to 72 dpi. How can I prevent this?

Using Thunderbird 31.4.0 on Win7 Professional with full Admin rights. It seems that all jpeg files larger than 50 KB (or maybe even smaller) are automatically altered from their original resolution of 300 dpi (or higher) to 72 dpi, both outgoing as well as incoming. I have tried unchecking and checking the "Display Attachments Inline" checkbox in the View menu but this does not change the behavior.
In the Config Editor, the setting 'browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing' is set to False. In addition, the setting 'image.high_quality_downscaling.enabled' is also set to False. Please help!
    Thank you!

Yes, fortunately, I am a Windows user, but I don't want to start a religious war here And it is also possible to run multiple versions of Adobe products simultaneously under Windows - why shouldn't that be possible? Currently I have CS3 and CS4 and somtimes use CS3 when CS4 is just too buggy to get the job done. Before that I had CS and CS2 on the same machine.
But I wouldn't keep all versions back to PS 6.0 or CS, that would be a bit too chaotic and I'd had to spend days of installing if I get a new computer. I expect those programs to be a little bit backwards-compatible, so I don't have to use many different versions. And for Photoshop, this is mostly the case. It's just very tiny details like Smart Object resizing that seems to work differently.
Otherwise I'm really happy that in CS4 I can finally link Masks to smart objects and apply warp and perspective on them, that's a big plus!

  • How do I resize/change resolution of photos from iPhoto when used in iWeb

I am shooting with a 7.1 Mega Pixel Canon to get enough quality to crop and print high quality pictures of my baby daughter and her adventures in the world.
I have a website up made with iWeb, but when I select the photos in iPhoto and go Share / Sent to iWeb / photo page - I get a nice layout of the photos but at full resolution when the thumbnails are selected or the slide show is run. Although nice and sharp, this is a pain for anyone looking at the site even with high speed access.
There must be some way to resize photos, but I have yet to figure that out with iPhoto, let alone iWeb. And as one photo at a time is a pain, there must also be a way to rescale a whole selection of photos that I want to use for a page - say her Disneyworld trip. I can't be the first person to run into this, but I have not found anything out there to point me in the right direction.
Ideally I wold like to create a resized set from the originals - so I can still print and crop in high qulity. I also am not really sure what resolution would be best or easy viewing and download - that's probably subjective. 1200x800 comes to mind but I am open to suggestions.
Perhaps resize is not the right term - changing resolution is probably more accurate, but there too I have not found an answer.
    Appreciate the help and suggestions.

    dan28088,
Tried your site on two different browsers, using highspeed broadband; the site is, indeed, extaordinarily slow. We can dissect the thing down to the last file, but it won't change anything, as far as I can see. If it were me, I would host the site on another server. The .Mac servers are just plain slow, period. I think that is the primary problem here. Just my opinion, others may disagree.
I created a new site this past weekend for a new project, and published it to .Mac. It contains a lot of jpeg files in slideshows (along with the usual png suspects!) . After reviewing it a few times, and not being satisfied with page-load speeds, I published to a folder and uploaded the site to space on 1&1 WebHosting.
The page-load speeds TRIPLED. That's right...3X as fast page-load speeds. Even large, linked to files, 3MB+, load within a reasonable amount of time. (seconds)
I still will keep a .Mac subscription, as I like and use all of the other features of the iDisk. But for serious website hosting, I think you will be better 'served' with a remote host. Your money with .Mac is certainly not wasted; the syncing services and other features of iDisk space that integrate with your local files are well worth the yearly fee. Again, only one user's opinion, based on experience.

  • IPhoto resolution at 72 DPI after editing

    Hi,
Can anyone help me keep my high-resolution jpegs at 300 DPI, as imported from my Nikon D80? Whenever I apply any editing changes to the photos, the resolution changes to 72. I've already changed the Photo Book Order export resolution to 300 DPI using PrefSetter. Can I change a setting somewhere in iPhoto to keep my resolution high? Help! Thanks!

    istratmusicom:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Not to worry. It's just a numbers game. A 1600 x 1200 photo at 72 dpi will print a 22" x 16.6" print. If that same file is set to 300 dpi the print size will be 5.33 x 4 inches. iPhoto just chooses to reset the dpi to the screen resolution. That will not affect the printing of the photo in the book. The dpi of any file will vary according to the size of the frame on the page that it's placed in. See this site for a better description:The Myth of DPI.
What was the setting of the export resolution before you changed it to 300 with PrefSetter? The default dpi for iPhoto 7 is 300 for all sizes of books and 170 dpi for the low res warning flag.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Change resolution of image

I'm using CS3 and I'm putting together a small magazine. The printer who will be doing the printing insists that all images are 300 dpi, however, some of the images people have sent me to insert in the magazine are only 120 dpi. If I manually change it to 300 dpi in the Image Size dialogue box in Photoshop, does it actually increase the resolution? I was of the opinion that the original image has to be 300dpi and that it wasn't possible to alter it, but now I'm not sure. Any advice would be great!
    Many thanks.

I only choose 300ppi as that is the value you choose in the original post. The smaller the image is when being printed the higher the ppi is
if you do not have resampled checked. Resampling allows photoshop to alter the actual pixels of the image.
If resample is checked then photoshop can either downsample (remove pixels) or upsample (add pixels). The problem with upsampling is photoshop does not know what the new pixels should be so it guesses. This can cause blurring or aritifacting. The best picture to have it one that is taken at the highest resolution you need. You are better off taking a picture that is higher in resolution than what you need and crop your image or down sample than to have an image that is to low of a resolution and try to upsample.
Think of resampling unchecked like scaling the image. You can scale the image up or down and only the ppi is changed.
Because there are no values in the above formula you can change the width and height to any value and the ppi will adjust accordingly.
The opposite it true as well you can change the ppi to any value and the width and height will adjust accordingly.

  • Cropping while changing resolution

I have noticed  that when working with a 300ppi image, that I want to crop at say, 4 X 6, I enter these values into the W and H of the control panel for the crop tool, though if 72 ppi is left over in the crop control panel from some previous person, it makes the image MUCH smaller, even though I specified 4 x 6. Can someone explain to me what this is actually doing to my image, by cropping it at a specified size, that gets smaller because the resolution is also being changed to a smaller size?
    Thanks much!!!!

If there is a value in the resolution field on the options bar when you use the crop tool the image will be both cropped and the crop will be resampled to the resolution request in the resolution field. If you do not want the crop resampled clear the resolution field in the options bar. If you set 4" x 6" and set the resolution to 72 DPI the crop be it a small portion of the image or the whole. The 4x6 72dpi crop will be  4x72=288 pixels by  6x72=432 Pixels that is what resampling is all about.

I would appreciate it if someone could advise me as to the optimum resolution, dimensions and dpi for actual photographic slides that I am scanning for use in a Keynote Presentation, that will be projected in a large auditorium. I realize that most projectors in auditoriums that I will be using have 1024 x 1200 pixels, and possibly 1600 x 1200. There is no reference to this issue in the Keynote Tutorial supplied by Apple, and I have never found a definitive answer to this issue online (although there may be one).
Here’s my question: When scanning my photographic slides, what setting, from 72 dpi to 300 dpi, would result in the best image quality and use up the most efficient amount of space?
Here’s what two different photo slide scanning service suppliers have told me:
Supplier No. 1 tells me that they can scan slides to a size of 1544 x 1024 pixels, at 72 dpi, which will be 763 KB, and they refer to this as low resolution (a JPEG). However, I noticed when I looked at these scanned slides, the size of the slides varied, with a maximum of 1.8 MB. This supplier says that the dpi doesn’t matter when it comes to the quality of the final digital image, that it is the dimensions that matter.  They say that if they scanned a slide to a higher resolution (2048 x 3072), they would still scan it at 72 dpi.
Supplier No. 2: They tell me that in order to have a high quality image made from a photographic slide (starting with a 35 mm slide, in all cases), I need to have a “1280 pixel dimension slide, a JPEG, at 300 dpi, that is 8 MB per image.” However, this supplier also offers, on its list of services, a “Standard Resolution JPEG (4MB file/image – 3088 x 2048), as well as a “High Resolution JPEG (8 MB file/image – 3088x2048).
I will be presenting my Keynotes with my MacBook Pro, and will not have a chance to try out the presentations in advance, since the lecture location is far from my home, so that is not an option.
I do not want to use up more memory than necessary on my laptop.  I also want to have the best quality image.
One more question: When scanning images myself, on my own scanner, for my Keynote presentations, would I be better off scanning them as JPEGs or TIFFs? I have been told that a TIFF is better because it is less compressed.
Any enlightenment on this subject would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

When it comes to Keynote, I try and start with a presentation that's 1680 x 1050 preset or something in that range.  Most projectors that you'll get at a conference won't project much higher than that and if they run at a lower resolution, it's better to have the device downsize your Keynote.  Anything is better than having the projector try and upsize your presentation... you work hard to make it look good, and it's mangled by some tired Epson projector.
As far as slides go, scan them in at 150 dpi or better, and make them at least the dimensions of your presentation.  Keynote is really only wanting 72dpi, but I do them at 150, just in case I need to print out the presentation as a handout later, and having the pix at 150 dpi gives me a little help with their quality on a printer.
You'd probably have to drop in the 150 versions again if you output the Keynote to .pdf or Word or something, but at least you have the option.
And Gary's right (above) go ahead and scan them as TIFFs.  Sooner or later you'll want to do something else with these slides (like make something for an iPad or the like) and having them as TIFFs keeps your presentation looking good.
Finally, and this is a big one, get to the location for your presentation ahead of time if you can, and plug the laptop in and see what you get.  There's always connection problems. Don't let the AV bonehead tell you everything will work just fine ('... I don't have any adapters for a Mac...') .  See it for yourself... you're the one that's standing up there.  Unless it's your boss, then you better be really sure it works.

  • External Monitor changing resolutions on Macbook

I have seen several people ask this question, but I haven't found a suitable answer. I have a MacBook running 10.6.8 at school. I teach and move from room to room hooking up to different projectors and monitors. The set up is just very unstable. Despite its supposed ability to remember settings, it rarely does and the resolutions are messed up as well as the display callibrations. I have an external monitor on my desk. Yesterday, I set the resolution to the native 1280x1024, when I plugged back in, it was back to 1024x768. For some reason, the higher resolution wasn't even appearing on the list until I fiddled with it.
Why is this so buggy on this MacBook running this OS? Is there a way to force it to remember display settings better? Any tips?
I know that other teachers have more problems than I do because they don't even know how to change resolutions or anything like that.
Thanks for any tips, tricks or helpful comments.

Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.

  • Can I change resolution and embed font in cloud acrobat?

I need to be able to change resolution on one manuscript pdf, so I purchased the monthly cloud acrobat, but now I'm not seeing the capability to change resolution on the document.
I don't have an ongoing need for high resolution pdfs, so my normal MS Word to pdf is usually fine.

Nothing in the world can increase resolution if that's what you want. Reducing resolution is done via Save as > Optimized PDF.

  • Changing resolution in Solaris 10 sparc system

How do change resolution in solaris 10 on sparc system?
During install display was fine. Once boot to OS, display is bad. Need to know how I can change resolution to get a decent display on screen.

I'm not too sure about sparc hardware, as I don't know which graphic server it uses, but on my system(x86) the same thing happened. What I had to do was make an xorg.conf as the install doesn't create one.
On the CLI execute '/usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig' and this should step you through creating an xorg.conf file- as long as you are using the Xorg server of course.
    or
execute '/usr/X11/bin/Xorg -configure' this should create a basic xorg.conf and you just edit it yourself where appropriate.
Personally, if you know your graphic board, monitor, keybrd and mouse along with refresh rates the first method is probably best.

  • How to trigger change documents based on inbound-idoc?

    Hi experts,
Currently I'm working in on a project where I have to create an interface based on IDOCS. This is an interface for two SAP-HR systems.
If there are made changes in the dialog (gui) by a user, there will be created a change document, which can be displayed by report RPUAUD00. For the inbound-interface based on idocs it's important that there will also be created a change document in the system based on this idoc. We have tested this, but no change document is created.
Can anybody help me to solve this problem: "How to create a change document based on the inbound-idoc?"
    Thanks in advance.
    With kind regards,
    Roy

Thanks for responding. First, I like the idea of defining an event, but I'm still stuck with how to trigger it. I looked at dynamically registering events, and maybe doing something where a click on the graph control registers an event for key presses on the vi. I'd still have to figure out out to terminate the key press event. Unfortunately, (actually it's a feature I like..) there are a number of different ways to complete typing in a scale change. I routinely use ctr-enter (habit from working on a laptop), though enter works fine, and clicking somewhere else is probably the most common method. I am not that familar with User Defined Events, so I may be overlooking something obvious here.
The graphs are a Bode Plot, with a seperate graph for RPM vs Phase Lag, and RPM vs Magnitude. I want them to always be plotted on the same x-axis. The plot is generated when the user doubleclicks on a dataset. After that, it's just the user looking at it. They can change the axis without any new data being generated.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Why can't I enlarge safari bar and bookmarks bar so the print is larger.  I can only do this if I change resolution on display.  I do not want to make my 27" smaller.  Any comments?

After just installing Mountain Lion on mid 2011 iMac 27" I find it does not allow increasing size of font for Safari bar and Bookmarks bar.  The print is so small it is difficult to see.  I can change resolution of screen but the the size of the screen becomes smaller.  Not what I had in mind when I bought this iMac.  Is there any fix out there and is Apple working on this problem?  Any comments would be appreciated.  Thanks.
