Change Table layout from Row perspective to a Columnar perspective

I have a request from our users to change the layout from a Row type display to a columnar type display.  The column may contain values of different types like floating point, character, dates, strings etc.   Examples are shown below.  My first thought was to use MS Office Integration with Excel.   Using Excel to display the values and use ABAP when processing needs to take place.
Can the values of the Excel spreadsheet be loaded, retrieved and manipulated using methods in the view? High level process below.
1. load a blank excel spreadsheet into the view
             2. read an SAP table
             3. load values read from the SAP table to the blank spreadsheet.
             4. manipulate the data
             5. save data in the spreadsheet back to sap table
Are there other ways to switch from a row type layout to a columnar type layout that I'm not familar with?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Preston

cost of Sales        $6                   $6           $6
Sales Price          $8                 $7.50          $7

Hi all.
I guess this would be possible if you export the table to Excel and process it
before you bind it to the OFFICE_CONTROL. In the OFFICE_CONTROL you can
write an action for the on_save event and try to get the entered data back from the
excel document bound to the control and write the data into the data base.
But I never processed excel sheets with ABAP so you have to ask this question in the ABAP Forum I guess.
WebDynpro offers only the above emntioned things for working on office documents.
Hope this helps a bit,
Sascha

• How do with change table cells from staticText1 to button1 in run time?

I have two question:
first: I think change table's cells from staticText to button in run time?
how do?
second: I think change table column's order in run time?how do?
ex:
=============change before===========
name age
wtu 22
=============chnage after=============
age name
22 wtu
thanks

Try something like this:
1. Drop a Table. By default it has three columns.
2. Drop a button inside the third column. Set its id property to buttonInColumn3, and set its rendered property to false.
3. Drop another button, this time outside the table. Set its id property to buttonOutsideTable.
4. Double-click the buttonOutsideTable and make the method look as follows:
public String buttonOutsideTable_action() {
//switch the first two columns
List cols = tableRowGroup1.getChildren();
Object col = cols.remove(0);
cols.add(1, col);
//toggle between showing staticText3 and buttonInColumn3 (in the third column)
staticText3.setRendered(!staticText3.isRendered());
buttonInColumn3.setRendered(!buttonInColumn3.isRendered());
return null;
5. Run the application and click the button outside the table several times.

• How to change tables in from  clause dynamically

Hi,
I have to add some join conditions in where clause and tables in from clause based on some input parameters and data in other tables.
How can i achieve this ? I must use procedure/function or dynamic query preparation or any more alternatives?
Regards,
Krishna

Yes, you can use dynamic sql for that.
But be aware that you'll be needing to concatenate the table names in your FROM-clause, you cannot bind them...
So you'll be trashing the shared pool.
Maybe alternative approaches are possible, but you provide too little input for my crystal ball here...

• Transposing Table Data From Rows to Columns Into a View

I have a web-based HRMS (Human Resources Management System) ERP with a back-end SQL Server 2008 R2. I'm trying to compare the actual manpower with the manpower contract requirements for 30 cost centers. My base data is as follows:
TABLE Contract_Requirements: Class, Cost_Center, Contract_Qty
VIEW Manpower_Count: Class, Cost_Center, Head_Count
I would like to transpose the rows to columns of both objects so that the end result would be similar to the following:
              Class          |          Site_1          |
Site_2          |          Site_3          |          Site_4
|...
Superintendent                   1
1                             1
1
Supervisor                           2
2                             2
2
Medic                                   1
2                             1
3
Crane Operator                   1
1                             2
1
The target layout is that each individual record displays the number of employees of a specific class allocated to each individual cost center; the cost centers become columns. I was able to accomplish this using the following TSQL:
DECLARE @cols AS NVARCHAR(MAX), @query AS NVARCHAR(MAX)
SELECT @cols = STUFF((SELECT ',' + QUOTENAME(Cost_Center)
FROM Manpower_Count
GROUP BY Cost_Center
ORDER BY Cost_Center
FOR XML PATH(''), TYPE
).value('.', 'NVARCHAR(MAX)'),1,1,'')
SET @query = 'SELECT Class,' + @cols + ' INTO
Manpower_Allocation_Matrix FROM
(SELECT Class, Cost_Center, Head_Count
FROM Manpower_Count) x
PIVOT (SUM(Head_Count) FOR Cost_Center IN (' + @cols + '))p'
EXECUTE(@query);
The only problem is if an employee is transferred from one cost center to another, which happens a lot on a daily basis, this would only be reflected in the base view; the resultant table will not be updated. I would have to repeatedly drop and recreate
the table which isn't efficient, nor is it the right practice. I was thinking of automating this using a scheduled procedure every day, but it's still not going to work. The actual manpower count must be known at real-time, meaning any changes should be reflected
immediately after any employee transfer. What is the most efficient way to automate this process and store real-time data? FYI, I'm not an SQL expert and have never worked with
stored procedures or triggers. I would also like to point out the number of cost centers is never fixed; consequently the number of columns aren't fixed either.

Hi Seif,
You can pivot straightly on the base view to get real time data. The dynamic PIVOT is encapsuled in a Stored Procedure(SP), so every time your want to check the manpower count you can call the SP.
--This table is the same with your base view

• Dynamically change table selecting from

in 3.2 on 11g database is there a way to dynamically change the table used in a select statement for an interactive report? I have a series of similar tables, one for each month of the year. I want to click a month on one page and bring up a report from the table for that month. I want to use one page for this report and have all links from previous page link to the same page, just different result based on what month was clicked.
I know I could just setup 12 different reports and conditionally display each region based on a value passed to the that page, but I'd prefer to only create one page & one report on that page.
Thanks for any ideas or solutions.

Your function will have the code dynamically built.. What you do is you build your sql and pass in the table name and any other items that will change based upon your requirements..
here is an example...
function inventory_report (p_State IN VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
declare
      q varchar2(4000);
begin
      q:='   select p.category, ';
      q:=q||'       p.product_name, ';
      q:=q||'       p.quantity, ';
      q:=q||'       p.unit_price ';
-- Here is where we substitute the passed in state name for the data table we extract data from
      q:=q||'  from ' || V('p_State') || ' p, ';
      q:=q||' where p.product_quantity > 0 ';
      return q;
end;Thank you,

• How to convert a table data from rows to columns?

Hi,

Emp_id | 101     |     102
Emp_name | James |     Julia
Salary     | 1000 |     2000
How do I achieve this?

My question is to clearly transpose the rows to columns and vice versa without any changes to data.
Regards,
993012I do not see any modification to the data in the Link posted by Pavan. Anyways, One catch with Transposing the Rows is, you need to know the Number of Columns you need to project.
With Static SQL, there is no way to do so. Hence, you will need PL/SQL with Execute Immediate/Dynamic SQL.
See demostration by Tom Kyte on Dynamic Pivots to have a look at the example and adapt to your situation.
Although, I will debate on the need to do it in SQL. Because what you are upto is a part of Reporting and there are many reporting Tools which will have this functionality in-built. SQL, ideally should not be used for reporting purposes. It sole purpose it to store and pass the data to be rendered by Client Software i.e. Java or Third Party tools.

Hi,
It seems like a javascript error, probably from client side validation of faces components. Are you using a supported browser? Have a look here
http://blogs.oracle.com/jheadstart/2007/12/supported_browsers_for_adf_fac.html
This is probably not a JHeadstart specific problem, could you try to create the same page using ADF drag and drop and see if the problem persist. Also please post your question on the jdeveloper forum: JDeveloper and ADF

Saravanan

Hi Saravanan,
The JSP file describes the layout properties within the page. You should only replace the width values of the cells (<hbj:gridLayoutCell .... width="...") with the new values that you want.
In the portalapp.xml file you should also change the description of the layout so it will match your new need (from "WideNarrow" to "NarrowWide").
Please award points if you find this answer helpful.

• How we can update cube using Change Tables as Source

I have created a cube using source tables. I have also created change table (feature of 9i) based on source table. which store new changes to souce table. I want to load cube using one mapping from source table or change table based on the validity of the change table.
Is that possible to do this? have anybody implemented change table to incremental load of cube?
Sanjiv Tyagi

Hi Sanjiv,
I can think of 2 ways of doing this:
one is using a single mapping with a pre mapping process to determine whether the change table is valid. If yes the pre mapping process creates a view (that is also referenced in the mapping itself) on top of the change table (select * from change_table), if this is not valid then the view will be on the source table (select * from source). After this pre map process the mapping runs on which ever view exists and loads the data.
the second way is using process flow and 2 mappings. In PF you have a PL/SQL call that verifies which data to use. If the change table is correct, that will give success and uses the mapping on the change table. If the return is Error then you use the mapping on the source table.
I have not implemented these solutions, however I think these are 2 ways of getting it to behave like you would want to...
Hope this gives you some ideas,
Jean-Pierre

• How to dynamically display the data from a table base on row selection of another table in ADF

Hi ,
I have a requirement in ADF. I need to change the data of a table  based on row selection of another Table . Both the table have a Parent Child relationship between them. They have a common attribute say department_id.
                                                                                         For this I created bind variable in view object of employees table and wrote a where clause in the sql query using that bind variable. Then I created method for selection listener of department Table in java bean.
My method is following
        public void onrowselection(SelectionEvent selectionEvent) {
            RichTable richTable = (RichTable)selectionEvent.getSource();
                            CollectionModel tableModel = (CollectionModel)richTable.getValue();
                            JUCtrlHierBinding adfTableBinding = (JUCtrlHierBinding)tableModel.getWrappedData();
                            Object selectedRowData = richTable.getSelectedRowData();
                            JUCtrlHierNodeBinding nodeBinding = (JUCtrlHierNodeBinding)selectedRowData;
                    oracle.jbo.domain.Number newVal = (oracle.jbo.domain.Number) nodeBinding.getAttribute("DepartmentId");
                    Number pallet = newVal.bigDecimalValue();
                    System.out.println("Selected values " + pallet);
            BindingContext bindingctx = BindingContext.getCurrent();
                          BindingContainer bindings = bindingctx.getCurrentBindingsEntry();
                          DCBindingContainer bindingsImpl = (DCBindingContainer) bindings;
                  DCIteratorBinding dciter = bindingsImpl.findIteratorBinding("EmployeesView1Iterator");//access the iterator by its ID value in the PageDef file
                          ViewObject vo =dciter.getViewObject();
                          vo.setNamedWhereClauseParam("DepartmentId", pallet);//enter your value
                          vo.executeQuery();
It is printing the selected value of department id from department table in the log. But it is not able to pass the value to employees view. It is showing the following error in the log
"Definition DepartmentId of type Variable is not found in EmployeesView1."
I will be very thankful if someone helps me to solve this errror or is there any other way to achieve the same requirement.
Thanks
Nilesh

Note quite sure why you simply wont create a viewlink for the viewobject the tables are based on..
The viewlink attribute will be based on the departmentId and it's a simple master detail relationship which automatically uses ppr.
However, if both tables are on the same page; using your hack about;
On the underlying viewobject, define a viewcriteria e.g. "listById" and set your bind variable here.
I would bind table two to a RichTable component:
RichTable t2;
public void onrowselection(SelectionEvent selectionEvent) {
            RichTable richTable = (RichTable)selectionEvent.getSource();
                            CollectionModel tableModel = (CollectionModel)richTable.getValue();
                            JUCtrlHierBinding adfTableBinding = (JUCtrlHierBinding)tableModel.getWrappedData();
                            Object selectedRowData = richTable.getSelectedRowData();
                            JUCtrlHierNodeBinding nodeBinding = (JUCtrlHierNodeBinding)selectedRowData;
                    oracle.jbo.domain.Number newVal = (oracle.jbo.domain.Number) nodeBinding.getAttribute("DepartmentId");
                    Number pallet = newVal.bigDecimalValue();
                    System.out.println("Selected values " + pallet);
                   refreshTable2(pallet);
            BindingContext bindingctx = BindingContext.getCurrent();
                          BindingContainer bindings = bindingctx.getCurrentBindingsEntry();
                          DCBindingContainer bindingsImpl = (DCBindingContainer) bindings;
                  DCIteratorBinding dciter = bindingsImpl.findIteratorBinding("EmployeesView1Iterator");//access the iterator by its ID value in the PageDef file
                          ViewObject vo =dciter.getViewObject();
                          vo.setNamedWhereClauseParam("DepartmentId", pallet);//enter your value
                          vo.executeQuery();
private void refreshTable2(Number pallet){
RichTable x=getT2();
CollectionModel cm=(CollectionModel)x.getValue();
JUCtrlHierBinding jcb=(JUCtrlHierBinding)cm.getWrappedData();
BindingContainer bindings = bindingctx.getCurrentBindingsEntry();
DCBindingContainer bindingsImpl = (DCBindingContainer) bindings;
DCIteratorBinding dciter = bindingsImpl.findIteratorBinding(jcb.getName()+"Iterator");
ViewObject vo =dciter.getViewObject();
ViewCriteriaManager vcm=vo.getViewCriteriaManager();
ViewCriteria vc=vcm.getViewCriteria("listById");
vo.applyViewCriteria(vc);
vo.setNamedWhereClauseParam("DepartmentId",pallet);
vo.executeQuery();
AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(getT2());

Hello, friends!
I have read article "Row-specific or Cascading Lists in Table Layout" written by Steven Davelaar. I have maked several table layouts with this technique and it worked fine.
But now I have one problem, and this problem is very strange. One of VOs for which I use this table layouts throw exception after commit changes on first LOV attribute (Deptno). First time it was error

• Table layout w.r.t other tables and text while inserting/deleting rows.

I have 3 tables in a single page. One is left aligned and other two are right aligned. Then there is some text below the tables.
Now when I delete some rows from Table-1 the left aligned one, the Table 2 and text shift up filling the space below Table1.
Now I don't want the text/table to shift up/down when I add/delete rows from Table1 i.e Table1  should expand/contract in the empty space below it.
Now If I do the same thing for Table3 (Right aligned one) i.e add/delete rows there is no effect on text as shown :
All 3 tables are same and have exact positioning and other properties.
Please suggest any solution as I would be populating the table through word automation service (interop).

Another approach would be to use nested tables, with your 'outer' table having two columns and the inner tables going into different columns. You can hide the outer table's cell borders so its presence is less apparent. If the Outer table has auto row
height, it will adjust to accommodate whatever row addition/deletion you do to the inner tables. The only proviso is that the inner tables shouldn't have 'around' text wrapping. The two rhs tables can go into the same cell - all they need is a separating paragraph.
With this layout, the text will always remain below the outer table.

• How to verify that the user has changed table row data before db update

Hi all,
Iam using Oracle ADF with EJBs.
I have a single selection table that displays rows of data returned from a function of my data control.
The columns of my table are editable so that the user can change the data. The user selects a row, changes the data in one or more columns of the row and saves the data by means of a submit button. The code in the submit button, identifies the row of the corresponding iterator that the user clicked on and updates the data in the database (using the 'mergeEntity' function of the EntityManager)
Before saving the data, I want to put some logic to check whether the user has actually changed some data to avoid unnecessary updates in the database . But for this I need a technique to detect that the user has indeed changed some data in the table row.
One technique I have been using so far was to isolate the iterator row of the table and then query the corresponding row in the database table and compare their values.
Except from dummy, this technique is not efficient if the table contains many rows.
Moreover, in my case I have observed that on successive updates on the same row , the query on the database returns the new values (user changed values) and not the actual values contained in the database table. This means that when the user updates an iterator row the cached data affect also the results of the SELECT statement from the actual database table!!! Isn't this strange ?
Can somebody propose me a neat method to detect when the user has changed the the data of an iterator row ?

Hey Alan,
The below solution seems overly complicated to me and can not be implemented without a custom screen and/or the use of JavaScript. Also, if your main concern is that a user may accidentally loose all their data because they closed the browser window or the session times out before they hit the save button then this solution does not help you.
There are a couple of simpler approaches you can take here:
# If the use of JavaScript is permissible you can hook into the windows 'onUnload' event, and pop-up a message box which gives the user the opportunity to cancel closing the window and save their case if they haven't already.
# Implement an autosave feature by hooking into one of events provided by web determinations. A simple (but rather naive) way of doing this would be to hook into the OnRenderScreenEvent and call save on the interview session every time the event fires. This guarantees that all the data the user has submitted will aways automatically be saved, thereby removing the need to make sure the user manually saves their data before closing the browser.
Automatically making Web Determinations close a browser window has to be done using JavaScript. However, doing so means that a) it won't work for people who turn off JavaScript, which is commonly done for accessibility reasons b) you'll likely run afoul of the browser's security mechanism (they generally won't let you close a window that you didn't open and some really don't like you doing that at all).
Thanks,
Kristy
