Change the standby DB to prod DB

I create new Database and i rebuild the data from standby back up, my current DB is in standby mode and i want to open it and use it as primary.
note: i dont have primary DB, the only thing i have is 1 DB and it is in standby mode and need to use now as primary DB
OS:linux
Oracle 10g
any advice

You need to do a failover.
apply as many logs as you have, then finish managed recovery and make the standby a primary:
alter database commit to switchover to primary;
It is indeed well documented:

  • Would love to be able to change the Standby settings.

I would love to be able to change the Standby settings on my itouch. Particularly when I have my itouch plugged into a charging unit or computer. I would like the standby to not turn off my itouch screen when it has external power. Is there a way to do this?

Well, hopefully a developer can help and update the device to allow us to do just that. Perhaps one can tell us if they might consider working on just such an option. I mean seriously, if it's plugged in I want an option as to whether the screen should go off or not on me. I don't think it's an unreasonable request and it's probably not that hard to implement. I'm not a developer however, so how should I know.
Sorry for not referring to the device correctly (Julian), but I don't really care what it's called. I just want it to work better. I did however refer to it closely enough that you knew what I was talking about.
I can't be the only one that would like it to do what I asked.

    Hi
You have to edit the following files in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin or $TNS_ADMIN/ :
In your listener.ora on your standby
    MQ_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = superman.dk)*(PORT = 1524))*
TNSNAMES.ORA (on your primary and standby)
    MQ_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY = tcp.world)(PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = superman.dk)*(PORT = 1524))*
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = MQ_LIST))
    after that do
    lsnrctl reload

  • Changing the archive destination in standby database?

My DB is running on Oracle 9.2.0.6.0. I have data guard for my primary database.
Now i wanted to change the archive destination only standby database. What is the process? Any response or any link is appreicated. Thanks

The standby database wouldn't generate archivelogs until and unless it is opened (eg in a failover). So, although there is a definition for the log archive destination in the standby's init.ora / spfile, it is used only to read archivelogs shipped from the primary.
If you are talking of the destination that the primary's archivelogs are shipped to on the standby, technically once the archivelogs are applied on the standby, they are not required and can be deleted. You would be able to configure this.

  • How can I make the standby button also change ringer profile?

I do not use a holster but would like the standby mode (pressing mute) to use the holster profile settings.  Or if this is not possible is there any way to make it automatically change ringer profiles when placed in standby?  I would like to change to vibrate when in standby mode as the phone will be in my pocket.

Standby option is capable of doing so. That wish can be materialized only if you use holster.

  • How to change the database character set on physical standby database?

    Hi,
We have a database with character set WE8ISO8859P1 and migrated the character set to WE8MSWIN1252 using csscan/csalter scripts. This database has a physical standby database setup also and after the migration, the physical standby database is still showing the character set as WE8ISO8859P1. How can I change the characterset on the physical standby? I raised a Service Request with Oracle, and they said that recreating the standby database is the only supported way of changing the char set on the standby database. Is this true?

  • Shrink Log file in log shipping and change the database state from Standby to No recovery mode

    Hello all,
I have configured sql server 2008 R2 log shipping for some databases and I have two issues:
can I shrink the log file for these databases: If I change the primary database from full to simple and shrink the log file then change it back to full recovery mode the log shipping will fail, I've seen some answers talked about using "No
Truncate" option, but as I know this option will not affect the log file and it will shrink the data file only.
I also can't create maintenance to reconfigure the log shipping every time I want to shrink the log file because the database size is huge and it will take time to restore in the DR site, so the reconfiguration
    is not an option :(
how can I change the secondary database state from Standby to No recovery mode? I tried to change it from the wizard and wait until the next restore for the transaction log backup, but the job failed and the error was: "the step failed". I need
to do this to change the mdf and ldf file location for the secondary databases.
    can any one help?

    1. If you change recovery model of database in logshipping to simple and back to full Logshipping will break and logs wont be resored on Secondary server as log chain will be broken. You can shrink log file of primary database but why would you need that
what is schedule of log backup. Frequent log backup is already taking care of log files why to shrink it and create performance load on system when log file will ultimately grow and since because instant file initilaization is not for Log files it takes time
to grow and thus slows performace.
You said you want to shrink as Database size is huge is it huge or does it have lots of free space. dont worry about data file free space it will eventually be utilized by SQL server when more data comes
    2. You are following wrong method changing state to no recovery would not even allow you to run select queries which you can run in Standby mode. Please refer below link to move Secondary data and log files

  • Changing the dbid of the physical standby database...

    hai...
    i am new to dataguard.
can we change the dbid of the physical standby database?
and if it is possible what would be the effect on primary database at the time of sending archive log files.
why should we change the dbid of the logical standby database?and why shouldn't for physical standby?
    please guide me...
    v.s.srinivas potnuru

A physical standby is a bit for bit copy of the primary database. It is not opened read-write. It is the same identical database as your primary.
Consider a logical standby as an independent database that just happens to have transactions that emanate on the primary database applied to it, via SQL APPLY.
A logical standby can deviate quite markedly from the primary and you can skip tables from being updated on the standby. You can also create objects that exist solely within the logical standby (i.e. more indexes for reporting).

  • Query on Changing the IP address for Primary and Standby.

    Dear All,
I have to change the IP address for my Primary system. It is in windows environment with Oracle failsafe.
i am using the dataguard for switchover process. I changed the IP address in all the files like listener and TNS names and after that i mounted the database and checked the dataguard configuration.
DGMGRL> show configuration giving success. my problem is when i executed the show database verbose primary_database. it is showing the old IP address in static connect Identifier.
how to change the IP in static connect Identifier? i updated all the files properly with new IP, but still facing this. will it affect any thing during switchover?
    Thanks.

KVYou've not specified the patchset. I assume you're trying to apply some CPU, there are two parts of patching:
    1. Patch the oracle software
    2. Patch the existing database (e.g. ?\rdbms\admin\catcpu.sql)
Your steps seem fine, but you're skipping the second part of patching (refer to the readme of the patch as the step may defer for different CPU patches) and that is essential part. My plan of action will be similar to following:
After backing up binaries and database
    1. Stop all the oracle services/processes
    2. Verify the appropriate opatch version (refer readme)
    3. patch the oracle S/W using opatch
    4. Verify that the CPU is applied successfully (opatch lsinventory)
    5. Patch the database (refer the readme for specific steps)
    6. check for invalid objects and compile them if necessary
    7. check whether the patch is applied successfully on database or not (using registry$history)
    8. Similarly patch the S/W of standby server (No need to patch the database)
N.B. If you've already applied CPU on primary, then your POA is ok.

  • How to find the timestamp and SCN in the standby database?

    Hai,
I have Oracle 9.2.0.4 RAC with 2 nodes in the production. The logs generated at these servers will be manully moved to my standby database and will be applied. To know what isthe maximum log files applied in the standby database, i am using the below mentioned query in the standby database,
    Select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$log_history group by thread#
In general i am using "recover standby database until cancel" command and then checking the database with the above mentioned query whether all the logs are applied or not.
If i use time based or scn based recovery in standby database i.e., "recover standby database until time <time>" or "recover standby database until change <scn number>" , after completion of the recovery, apart from the message "Media recovery complete" or by seeing the alert log, is there any way to query the standby database, so that i can identify the time or scn upto which the archived redo log files got applied.

    Hi Sridhar,
There should be some view which will have applied_scn information. There is one more option i can suggest, you can create a heart beat table in production with 2 column like scn and timestamp. Update this table every minute. From standby db you can query this table and get fair idea on applied_scn and timestamp.
While exporting you can export using flashback_scn by taking the value from heartbeat table of standby.
This heartbeat table is used very common in streams environment. Just see if this helps you.
