Setting DISPLAY enviroment variable

Hi,
I want to run oracle wallet manager from my windows client. My application server is installed on the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9. I have given the following command to set the DISPLAY variable.
export DISPLAY=192.168.100.159:0.
Here is the output of the same. It gives some java exception error.
Can anyone help me in setting the variable so that I can open wallet manager.
Regards
Trusha

And what did you configure at the side of 192.168.100.159 which is supposed to be your client?
I suggest you run VNC server on the server side ('vncserver') and set $DISPLAY to that. Next, use VNC viewer on your client machine to connect to the VNC server.
Unless you have an X server running on your client machine of course.

    How to set the DISPLAY environment variable in AIX?Usual format is:
    +<host>:<display-number>+
    E.g.
    export DISPLAY=192.168.0.235:1
    Where the host is the hostname or IP address of the client platform running a X-Server. If the X-Server is running locally, then this entry can be omitted.
    The display-number is the display number of the X-Server to use. A single X-Server can have multiple displays. E.g. Unix server running a X-Server can have 10 users connected via X-Terminals and will this have 10 displays.
    Judging from X-Windows questions asked on OTN, it seems to be a tad complex to grasp for some - especially those from a MS Windows background as X-Windows is very different and also reverses the client-server concept, requiring the X-Server component to be running on the client platform (where the server platform runs the program that is the X-client).
    So it is a lot easier to rather use something like VNC instead - supported on most Unix platforms, Linux, Windows and Apple's OS/X.
    Simply run the VNC server on the server platform to create a virtual container for running the X-server display. Connect from a client using a VNC client.
    As it uses the RFB (Remote Frame Buffer) protocol, it is a lot faster than running the slower and larger X11 protocol required for X-Windows connectivity over TCP/IP.

  • Enviroment variables!

    I have the java card kit 2_2_01. I have set the enviroment variables(at least i think so, i just did what the pdf says) and when I am trying to emulate one of the samples included,the message in the dos-prompt enviroment says
    Out of enviroment space.
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: apdutool/bat
    Generally it does that in every tool that I am trying to use. Thank you in advance for your interest!

    How is your environment set up ?
    The JRE is interpeting apdutool.bat, to apdutool/bat !
    Don't put apdutool.bat in your CLASSPATH. Just add the javacard \bin to your PATH. CLASSPATH is for Java ONLY, PATH is for Windows system environment

  • How to set enviroment variables for Inso Filter

    Hi everyone,
    I want to convert word documents to html using CTX_DOC.Filter.According to the documentation,I know I neednot set the 'Inso Filter'in the preference when creating index,but I must set enviroment variables for Inso Filter.
    I found the following instructions for it in the 8.1.5 documentation,but I can't understand it well.Is there anyone can tell me how to set enviroments variables for Inso Filter on Windows2000 Server?(My DB version is 8.1.7EE)
    Environment Variable Locations
    All environment variables related to Inso filtering must made visible to interMedia Text. Set these variables in the following locations:
    listener.ora file. This makes the environment variables visible to the extproc PL/SQL process.
    The operating system shell from where ctxsrv server is started. This makes the environment variables visible to the ctxsrv process, which does background DML.
    Any suggestions are apreciated

    NSAPI plugins are normally configured using parameters specified in magnus.conf and/or obj.conf. What plugin requires you set an environment variable?

    And TEST-SERVER is the name of your local PC?
    the DISPLAY variable needs to be set to the IP of a X-Windows server, the database server will be client to this server!
    I know many people here don't know anything about Oracle nor Unix, and also don't want to learn it, and at the same time are SHOUTING all the time.

  • Setting DISPLAY variable for omniPortlet

    I'm trying to configure omniPortlet, but am having trouble getting it to recognise the DISPLAY environment variable configuration.
    I've tried setting DISPLAY to localhost:0.0 and then starting my portalTools OC4J container - however, the omniPortlet configuration page still shows DISPLAY as not configured.
    Is there anywhere else I should be configuring this value, or something I'm not doing correctly?

    the easiest way to test it is :
    - log in via telnet
    - set the display of your session to the setting you are trying to use in iAS
    - start e.g. xclock and check if the window pops up on the specified console
    you might run into issues like xhost + not being set or similar.

  • Setting my bash shell enviroment variables

    my experience on managing oracle on linux is very little.My background is generally on windows server.
    Every time i want to use an oracle application i always have to set the environment variables like $oracle_home.How can i make this setting permanent.I have tried doing this when logged on as 'oracle' user using the command vi .bash_profile. But if i try to save it i get the annoying message that the file has not been opened for editing.
    In summary how can i open my bash profile file for editing.
    Thank you
    Charles

    if i try to save it i get the annoying message that the file has
    not been opened for editing..bash_profile is normally updateable by the owner only (or by root). If you get that message, then probably you're trying to do that as another OS user. Please try the following :
    $ cd /home/oracle # (where /home/oracle is the oracle OS user's home directory)
    $ ls -la .bash_profile
    -rw-r--r-- 1 oracle dba 1687 May 16 11:39 .bash_profile
    $ id

  • Error while setting up enviroment for the application

    Hi,
    Im getting a popup box displaying the error message
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntvdm.exe
    Error while setting up enviroment for the application. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
    When I try to excute an external exe, why am I getting this error? and is there a way of getting this exe to execute properly without the error?
    Here my code for excuting the external exe
    String[] cmd = {"C:/gen.exe", "C:/a.zip"};
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
    p.waitFor(); "gen.exe" is the program i wish to execute and "a.zip" is the parameter i wish to excute it with.

    class ExecRuntime {
    public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception {
    String[] cmd = {"C:\\gen.exe", "C:\\a.zip"};
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
    p.waitFor();
    } Here we need to use backslashes, because the command is passed to the OS as is.
    If you need to be in C:\ to execute from command line, you will also need to use the
    exec() version that allows you to specify the 'current directory'

  • How to use enviroment variables in JSP code?

    Im developing a web server with JSPs, and I need to move the application to others computers. I need to access to a directory, but I dont know it because the user can install the Application in the directory he wants. So I need to access to that directory in the JSP code.
    The directory is "C:\Program Files\....\tomcat\webapps\ROOT\upload". I have the CATALINA_HOME enviroment variable defiened as "C:\Program Files\....\tomcat\", so I need to use something like "CATALINAHOME\\webapps\upload\", but I dont know how to mekr the JSP code to understand the enviroment variable CATALINA_HOME.
    Ive tried with %CATALINA_HOME%, but the Tomcat server doesnt recognize it. How can I access to that directory?
    Thanks (Sorry about my english)

    My JSPs are in: %CATALINA_HOME%\webapps\ROOT\
    I want to access to %CATALINA_HOME%\webapps\ROOT\upload\
    My JSP code:
    <% ...
    String DPATH = "C:\\Program Files\\JBuilder7\\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3\\webapps\\ROOT\\upload\\";
    File newfile = null;
    newfile = new File(DPATH+filename);
    %>
    I want the JSP to locate the directory \webapps\ROOT\upload\ without knowing the complete route "c:\Program Files\...", because I have the enviroment variable CATALINA_HOME with the value "C:\Program Files\JBuilder7\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3\". SO the user of the aplication only has to set the CATALINA_HOME variable and the aplication should access the upload directory throught the CATALINA_HOME variable.
    I cant explain it better. Sorry.

  • How to Set up the  variables and others to compile and Run Java Programs

    Hello,
    I have just downloaded the jdk1.6.0_07 and jre1.6.0_07 and installed it in C:\Program files\Java in my Windows XP ,So please tell me how to sett up the enviroment variables etc to compile and run Java Programs from Command Prompt.
    thanks

    To set the PATH permanently, add the full path of the jdk1.6.0_<version>\bin directory to the PATH variable. Typically this full path looks something like C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_<version>\bin. Set the PATH as follows on Microsoft Windows:
    1. Click Start > Control Panel > System on Windows XP or Start > Settings > Control Panel > System on Windows 2000.
    2. Click Advanced > Environment Variables.
    3. Add the location of bin folder of JDK installation for PATH in User Variables and System Variables. A typical value for PATH is:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_<version>\bin

  • Set DISPLAY through rc2.d script

    Hi Admins,
    I need to set the DISPLAY system level so I have created a script in /etc/rc2.d and placed the following lines
    export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0;
    /usr/openwin/bin/Xvfb :0 &
    But this doesn't seem to set the display correctly. But the x server is starting without an issue.
    When I tried to see the display as,
    # echo $DISPLAY , it shows blank.
    Help is much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dushank

    The variables set in RC scripts wont be inherited to the shell. If you set $DISPLAY in a rc-script, it will only be set in that very specific script, and it will only exist during the life time of the script.
    To set a variable at shell level, you need to add it to a /etc/profile or the appropriate config file for your shell (i.e. .kshrc, .cshrc, .bashrc and so on).
