Changed DOCTYPE Causes menu shift in IE

Hi,
To clean up my page I'm trying to add a correct DOCTYPE. My current site works but but done pre-Dreamweaver has a lot of validation errors. That site is http://www.nevilleboats.com
I've changed the DOCTYPE to 4.01 transitional.
The results can be seen in an alternate temporary page:  http://nevilleboats.com/index2.htm
In FireFox the site appears to be pretty stable.  When loaded into IE, however, the whole menu stack originally on the left side of the page (inside a table column) shifts to the center of the page.  It actually locates beneath the slideshow.
The general layout of the page is a table layout with a bit of CSS.  I appreciate a full CSS page might be a solution, but I just don't have the experience yet to pull that off.
Can more experienced eyes point me to a solution?
Thanks
chuck

Here's code that validates EXCEPT for the following -
1.  Flash embed/object markup
2.  Missing alt attributes
3.  The <marquee> tag
You can use this as a solid base....

  Neville  --- For over 30 years I have been designing rugged Trawler
  and Motor Yachts that help owner&#39;s like you realize your dreams.  I
  have also been sculpting versatile motorsailers and finding solutions
  for commercial motor catamarans that take you diving or exploring remote
  destinations. Add to that body of work, propulsion systems for US Coast
  Guard&#39;s own fleet of boats that protect you, and work with big ship
  design firms that bring goods to your door. ...I&#39;ve been busy.  </p>
        <p align="left">Within the design process I&#39;ve learned a lot. One of the
          most important things I&#39;ve learned is good ideas don&#39;t just stem from
          the designer. The best designs evolve through collaboration between the
          designer and the client. Over the years I&#39;ve worked with dozens of great
          boat yards and hundreds of experienced owners. It is this collaborative
          experience that I to bring to the table when developing a new project,
          be it a 20 foot open boat or a 100 foot luxury yacht.</p>
        <p align="left">Listening is the key to any successful design. My goal
          is not to design a boat that is right for me, but one that meets or
          exceeds the requirements of you, my client. Over the last many years
          much of my focus has become moderate sized Motor or Trawler style
          yachts: family cruisers between 50 and 100 foot in length. You will see
          some here, and others shown in my <b><i>White Book</i></b> of recent
          designs. The important thing to remember is that all these images are
          merely starting points. </p>

  • IE Horizontal Menu Shift

    I've been fighting the IE menu shift (spry 1.5). I've been
    able to isolate the problem. When I change my menu text from left
    justified to centered, the submenus then center themselves under
    their main menu item. This then causes the 2 tier submenu to
    disconnect from the 1 tier submenu by the distance of the
    "centered" menu.
    Does anyone know an IE fix for this situation.
    The menu works great in FF and Safari (windows beta)
    Thanks,
    Shawn

  • Cannot work on more than one page and menu shifting problems

    I downloaded Muse CC 2014 when it first came out, and now I find myself no longer able to edit more than one page without having to completely shut down the application and start it again. Here's what happens:
    I open a page to edit, and then anything else I try to double click on (or right click and choose open page) does absolutely nothing. Any ideas why this is occurring?
    Also, I've noticed a strange phenomenon where my menu has completely shifted its menu contents - pushing everything down. Nothing I did - wondering why this is happening. This has pretty much rendered Muse unusable to me and I am becoming more and more frustrated since I'm paying good money for this....please help.
    Here's a screenshot of the messed up menu (all text should be located in between the green dots and not so spread out):
    Also, if I try to create a border around a text box with just the bottom border showing (i.e. the other 3 sides are set to 0), that bottom border also shifts down as if the text container has suddenly expanded.
    This happens with both my Macbook Air and my MacPro.
    Thanks in advance for any help. I'm kind of at my wit's end....I really need to be able to update my website as this is the face of my business.
    -Kristine

    You could look at using a template.  Create your master template, create editable and non-editable regions, then use this template create all the child pages.  When you need to make a change to the menu, make it in the template and the changes will flow down to all the pages created from the template.
    Using DW Templates:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/templates.html
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_templates.html
    The other option would be to create the Navigation item as a server side include...
    More about this:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/143/tn_14380.html
    http://www.entheosweb.com/website_design/server_side_includes.asp
    Difference between using a template and server side includes.
    When you make a change to a template, you need to re-upload all the pages created from the template.
    Using a SSI, you make the change in the ssi file,  upload it and all pages are automatically updated.

  • Changing Dimensions of menu items in menubar

    I wanted to make the menu items have an auto width instead of
    a fixed with. So I followed the direction in the Help file under
    "Change dimensions of menu items" to change the .css. The menu
    items now seem to stretch to fit the width of the text, but the
    secondary menus now display horizontally instead of vertically
    below the top menu item. This is only in Explorer 6 & 7. Works
    fine in Firefox.

  • Change Background in Menu Creation  Encore CS4 and Photoshop

    I am creating a menu using Encore and Photoshop. I Used the Encore Libray to create a blank background and also created a series of buttons adusting them in Photoshop CS4. However, when I try to change the background with a new jpg or psd file I open the picture in Photoshop but not as the new background layer  I am trying to achieve. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

    Dear Bill,
    Thank you for your prompt reply. However, I don't think I am explaining my problem correctly so if you have the patience I am sending you this little "Jing" movie which will show you my problem

    Subject: Change Background in Menu Creation  Encore CS4 and Photoshop
    There should be no problem when adding the image of your choice, with Edit in Photoshop.
    When you choose Edit in Photoshop, several things happen:
    1.) a TMP PSD for that Menu is created.
    2.) links are created between En and PS
    3.) PS is launched, and that TMP PSD is then Opened in PS.
    When one has edited that TMP PSD in PS, they must do a Save to allow those links back to En*.
    If you are doing a Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy, those links will NOT be followed, and the Menu will NOT update in En.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    I have encountered some instances, where a single Save does not follow those links. With experimentation, I have found that 3 Saves (Ctrl+S) will force those links to be followed, and the Menu updated in En. Not sure why this happens sometimes, but 3 seems to be the "magic number," at least for me.

  • Can I change the nav menu text color?

    Can I change the nav menu text color? ( it's too dark for the dark background I like.)

    I have this exact same question and you have no reply and I'm wondering what the answer is.

  • Does and one know if you can change the navigation menu at the top of the iWeb template pages?

    Does and one know if you can change the navigation menu at the top of the iWeb template pages? I need to make the background a little wider.

    It depends on which template you use.
    You can also hide the default navigation and build your own which allows more freedom of design and is better for search engine optimization...

  • Color not changing on Selected Menu tab

    I'm creating a custom css and in doing so have been trying to change the text color of the selected menu tab. I've added it to my stylesheet but it is not changing upon running it. If I change the menu tab specifically via the properties of the tab, it will change. Is 'color' something we can change?
    Here is a snipet of my css:
    .af|menuTabs::selected {color:red;
    white-space:nowrap;
    font-family:Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,sans-serif;
    font-size:200%;
    background-color:white;
    font-weight:bold;
    text-decoration:none;
    Thanks,
    Lisa

A: Color not changing on Selected Menu tab

Your '.' before af|menuTabs is wrong.
It's just "af|menuTabs::selected" not ".af|menuTabs::selected".
Also, you need to use the ::selected-link pseudo-element to style the color of the text.
/* Make the selected tab bold */
af|menuTabs::selected-link
font-weight: bold;
font-size: 14pt;
color: green;
}

  • Changes will cause Data to be deleted message

    Hi,
       Here is the issue I am experiencing:
    1. I have a UDO of Master Data type and created a custom form to Add/Update/Delete data.
    2. When I scroll through each record, I get a message "Changes will cause Data to be deleted". Continue?
    I have confirmed that the form is in OK mode. How can I make this message go away?
    Gopal

    Hi Gopal,
    Even if the form is in OK mode, the edits cause the form to go into Update mode, which is why you see this message.
    If it suits your scenario, set "AffectsFormMode" property to false for items which should not trigger a mode change (if loading the form from XML, set AffectsFormMode="0")
    You can also look at these form properties:
    Form.AutoManaged
    Form.SupportedModes

  • Changes will cause the data to be deleted message is misleading

    We find that the message 'Changes will cause the data to be deleted' is misleading and causes a great deal of concern to our users when it appears say when they are just trying to find information and are browsing from one transaction to another. Is there anyway we can get this message amended for certain scenarios at least?

    Sam,
    someone asked this few days ago.
    [look here|Is It Possible to block system message;
    i suggested to catch the statusbar and Petr suggested to catch the Event and click it away with sending "enter"
    thats it - i hope it helps

    Apple didn't make this easy, did they! When Lion first came out, I think that check box was under the Trackpad heading of the System Preferences, whether you actually had a trackpad or not. I take it there's nothing there, either?
    I plugged a plain ol' three button Logitech mouse into the iMac, and while the Mouse panel options did change some, the same check box for Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating was there.

  • How to change a list/menu to a text field when 'Other' is chosen?

    Hi there. I've been trying to solve this for a week now and I have depleted all my resources, that is why I'm here. I even went to jquery but nothing works and I think I was over-complicating this way too much.
    In short: I have a contact form, which have a list/menu with validation, and one of the options of that list/menu is "other". What I want is that when the user select "other" automatically change to a text field in order to let the user put his custom color. This is what I have:
    <form method="post" action="process.php">
    <span id="spryselect1">
    <label for="colors"></label>
    <select name="colors" id="colors">
    <option selected="option1">Blue.</option>
    <option value="option2">White</option>
    <option value="option3">Red</option>
    <option value="other">other</option>
    </select>
    <span class="selectRequiredMsg">Please select a colour.</span></span>
    <input type="submit" value="Send">
    </form>
    I know now that the approach is to show/hide a separate textbox besides the other... well. I don't know how to implement that, I think I really need your help guys. I'm completely frustrated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Spry menu shifts to left in IE...again

    I feel like this question has been asked 100 times, and I've read through everyone of them, trying the fixes one by one, to no avail. I've officially reached the end of my rope with this one. I followed the rules (*I think*) and edited the CSS to get my colors, etc as I need them. All looks great, except that it looks fine in FFX, but not in IE. The submenu shifts to the left in IE. Can anyone help? I'm sure it's right in front of my face, but I can't see it. Thanks in advance.

    Before we go any further, you need to upgrade to the latest version of Spry.
    The latest version of the Adobe Spry Framework is 1.6.1, this is the same version that ships with Dreamweaver CS4. If you use Dreamweaver CS3 (uses Spry 1.4), its wise to upgrade your files to the latest version. This can easily be done using the Spry Updater that can be found here.
    Once you have done that and you re-assign the values in the CSS files, please read the comments first as in

  • Any thoughts why updating template causes menu to not work?

    Sorry for the repost, but several pages have gone by and no one has been able to offer even a glimmer of hope.
    I am having an issue where any changes whatsoever to the template cause the JS dropdown menu to stop working. This happens to both templates that I use.
    I can make changes to child pages, and everything stays working. But on the template itself, even insignificant changes like changing HOURS to HOUR causes the issue.
    The page can be found at: http://propsfortoday.com
    I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.
    Thanks, Bill

    Wow. Thanks for writing.
    It is a site I've inherited. It hasn't been updated in two years because of chronic problems.
    I first accessed the templates with DW CS4 on an iMac. Then began using DW CS3 on a WinXP machine.
    The menu is JavaScript.. I think the script is called mmLoadMenus.
    I would do the pages manually except for all the PHP.
    Perhaps my process is flawed, so here is what I do:
    I copied the htdocs folder from the Apache server as backup and make yet another copy to work on. I then either upload modified pages to another server for testing, or change the extension to .html for local testing.
    By this method, I can do anything I want to child pages and retain full menu functionality. But any minor template change- adding or removing a character or inserting Google codes- causes the drop-down menu to stop working.
    Thanks again for your attention.
    Peace, Bill

  • Adding a country to the Change Address Format menu

    I have someone who I wish to write to in Turkmenistan, so I'm using Address Book to create a label for him. However, Turkmenistan (like many other countries) is not listed on the menu of countries you can change the Address Format to on the Edit/Change Address Format submenu, when you click on the address type (home, work, etc).
    Is there a way to add countries, or perhaps to specify Other/Not Listed and just use a single blank field to type in the address? When I try and enter a Turkmenistan address according to the USA label format, it looks misaligned and has a gap between the second to last and last lines of the address.
    I've searched the forums and all the documentation already, but I can find nothing on this. Please help if you can!

    This is what I was doing initially, but for some strange reason, when I paste the Cyrillic in from another document (as I cannot type it myself), the second line of the address gets shifted all the way to the left, outside of the actual editing field. I can't edit it or make it align properly at all, and it looks that way even on the saved Card. I think on the label, it looks fine, but I can't delete the City, State fields, so there's a gap between the major bulk of the address and the country.
    It would be nice if there were a way to say what fields you want on a card- for example, drag and drop Street, or Address Line 1, Address Line 2, and delete fields you don't want- like State/Province. (This would negate the need of needing to pick a country's particular format, because you could rearrange it as you pleased, or as was proper for wherever you were writing). I'm just wondering if there's some way to do something to help me-- maybe change something in one of the plist files, or AppleScript? (Though I'd rather an easier solution, if I can get it done, that would be great.)
